Musical symphony, Pune, India, Jan. 12: The Art of Living hosted a historic symphony - Antarnaad - bringing over 2750 Indian classical vocalists together on one platform, to write a new chapter in the history of music. It has been entered in the Guinness Book of World Records for the largest number of people singing Vande Mataram, India’s national song. Conceived by Sri Sri, the aim of Antarnaad was to showcase the vast repertoire of Hindustani classical music as well as to provide a platform for the exponents of this ancient Indian art.

Silver Jubilee Celebration - Kerala

1,200 dancers performed Mohiniyattam, the traditional Kerala dance form, as part of the Silver Jubilee celebrations in Cochin. This performance has been awarded the Guinness Book of Records for the most people performing a Mohiniyattam dance.

A Journey towards the Self - Arosa

Over 520 participants from around the world gathered at Arosa as Sri Sri guided the advanced meditation program offered by the Art of Living from May 8-12, 2008. Amidst the snow-capped mountains and pristine lakes, the participants enjoyed deep rest from the meditations, knowledge, silence and satsang.

Speed Up Millennium Development Goals – 2009

The Speed Up MDG campaign which began in July ’09, run across the world until October ’09. A joint initiative with the United Nations Development Program (UNDP), the campaign focused on three of the MDGs – Ensuring Environmental Sustainability, Eradication of Extreme Poverty and Hunger and Achieving Universal Primary Education.

Stand Up and Speak Out - 2007

Millions of people from all walks of life raised their voice against poverty and took a pledge to eradicate it. As part of a joint initiative between the Art of Living and United Nations Millennium Campaign (UNMC), the former mobilized over 7 million people across the globe to support UMNC’s Stand Up and Speak Out against poverty and for the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs). Stand Up events were being held all over the world, from the busiest square in the world, New York’s Times Square to the smallest school in the tsunami-struck Ache province in Indonesia.

Mission Green Earth

The Art of Living launched a massive initiative christened ‘Mission Green Earth’ to encourage people to plant trees. The initiative, taken up in association with the United Nations Millennium Campaign (UNMC) and United Nations Environment Program (UNEP), enabled the plantation of 10.6 million trees planted across 36 countries and 26 states of India. More than the number of trees, it is the number of people who have been encouraged to take action towards environmental sustainability that makes this project one of the biggest exercises against global warming.

Global pledge for human values

Over 25,000 people participated in a pledge to nurture human values in all spheres of life on May 13, 2007. Led by Sri Sri Ravi Shankar, this pledge aimed at creating a universal commitment to ensure that human values are acknowledged, honored and encouraged. Simultaneously, million across the globe took the same pledge to foster a sense of brotherhood, friendliness, compassion and commitment to serving humanity. The occasion marked the coming together of many international developmental agencies, governmental agencies and NGOs with the Art of Living to achieve humanitarian goals.

India’s Missing Daughters - Punjab

The Art of Living through its trust Vyakti Vikas Kendra India carried out a statewide campaign against the practice of Sex Selection (widely known as female feticide) in Punjab. The campaign was in the form of Beti Sneh Sanjivni Yatras. Punjab has the poorest child sex ration in the country and the Yatra (procession similar to a walkathon) was taken out in the districts that are the most affected due to the practice of sex selection. About 20,000 people and various organizations (religious, social, educational) participated in these Yatras.

Yuvaratri - 2006

This Christmas eve saw a unique celebration – one that had youth coming together to commit themselves towards social development. Thousands of youth gathered for an evening of music and meditation, and lit candles of peace: Art of Living’s youth organization, World Alliance for Youth Empowerment, (WAYE), was launched amidst this festivity. WAYE set up Seven Avenues for Action for Seven Focus Areas such as substance abuse, poverty and unemployment, depression and suicide, HIV-AIDS and the environment.
