Be Still and Stay Cute

It's nice to wake up into something familiar. This is what I learn to appreciate when last month Bok has started to come by my room once he wakes up in the morning. He will nuzzle his nose at me from the bedside; it is his way of telling me to wake up. This very sweet moment from our pet will last for a couple of minutes before he bids adieu and returns to his own kennel for breakfast. I realize that this has become so familiar. Even too familiar that every time he fails to drop by it feels like something is amiss; and on those days, the first thing that I always ask in the morning is his whereabouts.

The Best Face Photo in 2011

I have so many things to be grateful for in 2011. Foremost of which was the opportunity to meet several awesome families, kids, teens, and couples. I realize that each one have their own attitude, beauty, and charm. Each person's characteristics definitely make each individual unique and beautiful. I plan to post my top portrait photos for 2011, but I have not gotten around to it yet. Sigh; however, there's one particular session and photo that is my most favorite.

The Best Face Photo in 2011 goes to Khanna. This adorable girl gave me the sullen look when I attempted to take her photo. She was sulking because we left her alone to play with chalks while I took pictures of her mom and sister. My, she's one handful but adorable little girl.

The first week of 2012 is almost over and while the blogosphere has been declaring their look-backs and goals, here I am still struggling how to put into words my reflections for the past year and my intentions for this year. {Family}: The Pilot's Are In Town

I'd like to believe that I gave the family, in one of my last sessions in 2011, the photos that they may treasure forever. Meet the wonderful family in the previous sneak peek, the Pilot's...

But hey, let me back track a little bit because before I got the smiles from the little boy, Louis, we were off with a grumpy start. We attributed his grumpiness to the fact that we woke him up from his afternoon nap. Yes, it was not a good idea, but my friend who was also a high school classmate, Lucille, had a hectic schedule considering that they were just visiting for three weeks. We just had to do it.

The things that parents would do to pacify a kid even if they would be pointing to different directions, confusing? And they would have to pass him over their heads (double grin). A hands-down to Arjen and Lucille as parents because they had great patience and they most certainly knew how to make their kid laugh, to smile, and to have fun.

We had the photo session in downtown Cebu and in a Sunday afternoon in December. December days were short so we were losing light fast. Since I prefer natural light on sessions especially with kids because it's more "au naturale", I had to step out of their zone and let the family be so I can capture their moments alone. It worked. I especially love the series below where Louis was playing with the grasses and he would tease his mom. Louis is one passionate kid too he liked to tackle you down, just like in a rugby game.

At the end of the day, we finally got smiles from Louis. The Pilot's, they are such a beautiful family. I saw the family after the shoot for a couple more times and I am glad that after that not so good start with Louis we are now buddies and he now hams it up for me at the camera. I would like to think we are very good buddies because he would now play nose to nose with me. He's such a cute kid, he'll grow up handsomely as well. :)

They had to leave and return to their home in Netherlands, it will be long before I would see this family again. So long Argen, Lucille, and Louis. I hope you all had a good flight back home. Thank you to Lucille and Arjen for letting me capture your precious moments as a family and the genuine laughter. I enjoyed your company and the funny banter about how you both end up together. ;)

{Sneak Peek} Family Session with the Pilot's

Food: A Bo's Caffeine & Sweets Fix is the Answer

I spent an afternoon so unproductively. I drove to another city and back to our place for a good 4 hours including a 30 minute stop over to pick up something. So the commute approximately took me 3 hours due to traffic. I was so stressed added to the fact that there seemed to be more motorists on the streets nowadays and bad drivers who were not mindful to traffic rules. I had finally flared up when a motorcycle swerved to my right of way without even looking at his side mirror and the driver was just LAUGHING. If an accident had occurred from it; then, he would not be laughing. Sigh it was because of the stressful driving experience that I needed a sugar fix to keep me happy. :) I had been thinking of something sweet like coffee and a blueberry cheesecake.

I took advantage of the drive thru facility at Bo's Coffee in Banilad Town Center (BTC) in Cebu. This was extremely convenient for a customer like me who wanted to avoid the parking nightmare in most places during this holiday season. I had their reduced fat Froccino Primo Coffee Jelly and the yummy blueberry cheesecake. I loved the brown paper that they used to pack my "to-go" order; so environmentally chic. I also had the chance to finally check out "The Coffee Book", a 2012 planner. I had a hard time finding one in other branches I had visited because they seemed to have run out of copies. Thank you to the courteous Bo's barista who allowed me to leaf through the coffee book while waiting for my order.

If you are into planners and wants something that is unique from those that are sold in the market; then, The Coffee Book is a must. Why? There are pages with beautiful photos and doodles. There is also a monthly planner page which gives you an overview of your appointments and to do's for the entire month; then, daily sections are provided where you can enter more details for each day. There are doodle pages too. I most especially love the photo postcards which you may tear and send to your family and friends. I have no photos though, but I assure you it's one fun planner which will keep you from being bored the entire year. Do check it out at the nearest Bo's branch near you.

I can't wait to complete my coffee card and have my own copy. For those who do not know, this is a limited offer that runs from November 18, 2011 to January 16, 2012. You need to complete 10 stickers to redeem one, so hurry.

Just Because: The Huang's and Go's

This is a long over-due full post of a commissioned work I did for a colleague from graduate school and a good friend ever since. No, I did not forget this photo session; and who would when this was one session where an adorable, four-legged, furry dog stole a moment from Pearl and her family. I am talking about Martin, the dog, who peed at my camera bag. In fairness though, I did not think that he had really peed because we were all shouting at him at the very second he was about to answer the call of nature.

Meet Martin, who had a few minutes of fame. My sister told me that the dog ran away and hid from us after we discovered him. He only came out when we were about to wrap the session. When he approached us he had this slow and timid gait as if he was testing everyone's mood whether we will be mad at him. Of course, we didn't, just look at him...he's all meat and no amount of fur could camouflage it (grin).

Enough on Martin's moment because this session was not for him but it was for Pearl and her family. Pearl and I planned to hold this session on the day that they would be dressed up for a wedding in their family. I could not disagree with it. It would make a picture-perfect ending and I was glad Pearl picked this day for the session. Pearl and Collin made such a lovely couple so I could not resist posing them like it was their wedding. :)

Finally, I Found You!!!

...and here I thought that I will not find the color other than in the obvious fruit - orange. Two years ago I was crazy with coloring anything. It even led me to craft handmade cards with stamp accents just so I can play with colors. Coloring pencils are my favorite medium to the point that I invested in a good set and a friend gave me a year ago with the one and the premium Prisma colors, which I have coveted for quite sometime.

Why do I like to color? I find that with this activity it quiets my often busy mind and brings me back to my core. I don't know...there's just a sense of peace when it's only me and my thoughts while I let my imagination run using colors. It is timely that while I am at a frenzy searching the color for Project 64 Out of the Box: orange, I but find it in the stuff that have brought me serenity.

{Engaged} Cat and Mico

The family is apart from each other most months of the year; thus, seeing them together is so adorable. It's also sweet to see the father and son bond. I hope one day that their family will soon be together wherever their work and destiny brings them.
