I was actually in the mist of gathering some info about a different product from Magis, Pierre Paulin's "Flower". However I found myself drawn to teh image (above) featuring Stefano Giovannoni's "Boogie Woogie" shelving system and Francesco Binfaré's Annett (on wheels). While theres probably no reason to place an office style chair facing a shelving system in real life (though I guess you might want to roll about on your chair picking up books in a moment of extreme laziness). These are definitely to products that would compliment each other if you where to set about creating a slightly Dali-esque feel to a room.

Debuting in Milan earler this year "Flower" is a transparent / translucent (depending on the clear or black colowr choise) chair. The chair is designed by the legendary Pierre Paulin one of the masters of mid century modernist design. One must marvel (well I do anyway) at the ability of aging modernist / futurist / minimalist etc. designers and architects ability to continue to strive to create new forms and constantly incorporate new materials into their work. Paulin himself is now in his early 80's and this design feels as modern as any you will see this year. Personally I prefer the black, but I can see how in the right setting transparent with a hot pink seat would be a very striking item.

These days, the much-abused abbreviation "eco" is relating to our pocket as much as our planet, and many of us are back to an appreciation of the 3 R's - regeneration, renewal, reformation. With this in mind, architects Jose Ulloa Davet and Delphine Ding teamed up to reform a family home in Tunquen, Chile, which had been built by a local architect in 1990. The resulting Metamorfosis 1, completed September 2008, is one of the more architecturally striking and simultaneously enticing timber reformations yet.

Ventilated timber 'skin' acts to seamlessly bind the old and the new, whilst providing structural elemental protection. Steps wind from the decked patio in escalation of the building via a secondary roof terrace towards the main terrace, which provides enviable panoramic and sea views. Fulfilling dual "eco" purposes, that of being ecologically sound and economically sensible,  this project promotes the global ethic to be less remorseful and more resourceful. Upholding a "less waste, more trees" stance, Metamorphosis 1 shows sustainable is not only beautiful, but makes a house a home.

The RIBA award-winning Casa Kike in Costa Rica by Gianni Botsford Architects is not only one writer's paradise, but an architectural aphrodisiac for the eyes. This wooden structure contains roof beams up to 10m long and a mono-pitched roof elevated towards the sea shore.

It is incredible to me living in England that what is essentially my dream home where I could write and read and play piano amongst the wood and the sunshine is available by the power of major-award-winning architects for what is a relative pittance. To have that level of contemporary design in such a setting would be not only inachieveable here but also astronomically expensive. I would gladly swap the concrete jungle for Nature's own in an instant as here's proof it doesn't Costa Lot to live in Costa Rica. Truly inspirational.
