Cooper – Newborn

As part of Cooper’s newborn photography, we had organised to catch up again when he was about a week to 2 old. Newborn babies change rapidly, so get a real ‘newborn’ feel to baby photography, its best to do so within in first two weeks before Baby develops past this stage.

Of course this will vary from baby to baby, and family situations will all determine how suitable this timeframe is.

Cooper had changed quite a bit in the short time since we had seen him last, however he was no less charming .. or hungry for that matter! He was alert and happy to pose for the camera, intrigued with the noises it made, fascinated with the light. After a good feed and a extra ‘top up’ he was content to doze comfortably, seeming oblivious to the going-ons around him.

Both hailing from Newcastle, Allison and Jordan had come to Melbourne to celebrate Easter with family. Whilst they were down south, we took the opportunity to have an engagement photography session. Time was limited – due to various commitments, we had a grand total of one afternoon to choose from. We would risk the weather and the light and hope everything fell in place.

We decided to incorporate the photo session with a walk around Melbourne City, taking the opportunity to photograph Ally and Jordan with some of Melbourne’s iconic settings and scenery.

Melbourne being Melbourne we expected all sorts of weather. Luckily the rain held off, and Melbourne was her charming self, however part of that charm is her typically belligerent weather changes.

Shooting Ally and Jordan, we had cantankerous grey skies and gorgeous rays of sunshine bursting through blue sky. The afternoon passed and the sun was waning – I got worried that we would get no sunset, just an overcast sky with the sun sinking ingloriously below the horizon.

Fearing the worst, hoping for for something far better, and armed with a backup plan we raced through the city aiming for a sunset. Melbourne, a romantic at heart it seems, came through with some stunning golden light that gave way to a stunning sunset. We couldn’t have written a better script for Ally and Jordan.

I had another photo-shoot with Cooper a few days later, however this was about 24 hours after his birth. He was still in the hospital and I was super privileged to capture this special moment of him with his Dad.

Newborn Photography Melbourne

What better way to celebrate and bring in the New Year than with new projects. The newest of these new projects involves some new little creatures, new members of families, newborn babies!

The next few posts will simply be images celebrating these youngsters, dedicated to the Mum’s and Dad’s whose lives have been changed so profoundly by these new little additions.

It was starting out like any other morning.

Keep it normal. Keep it normal.

Breakfast. Toast.
“Jam and peanut butter please Dad”.
“Come on Dad. Lets build tracks”
“Sure.”

Keep it normal. Keep it normal.

“Come on Mister. Lets get dressed, it’s time for childcare.”
“Are we going in your car Dad?”
“Sure are!”

Keep it normal. Keep it normal.

Except that today would be anything but normal.

Today our family of three would become a family of four.

And so became another delicate balance – living the event, enjoying the experience, capturing the moments. Being part of the story at the same time as telling the story. But I wouldn’t change it for the world.
