A'Shop X Simons, Full HD!

En Juillet, nous avons travaillé de concert avec la firme architecturale Lemay-Michaud sur les visuels de la section Twik à la Boutique Simons du Vieux-Québec. En pleines rénos, nous avons passé une semaine sur le chantier à embellir les murs et plafonds de plusieurs espaces. Le style développé pour ce projet est hyper coloré, hyper détaillé et assez différent de notre style habituel – nous avons pu encore faire appel à nos deux Pink Ladies préférées, Lacey et Layla, pour développer les esquisses et pour la création sur place. Tout en couleurs et full HD, un de nos projets préférés de l’été! La majorité des photos plus bas sont courtoisie du photographe Serge Demers. Absolut A'Shop

A’Shop has been super proud to take part in the Absolut Blank events this summer. These events have been happening all over the place and always showcase some extremely talented artists, from all disciplines. After stops in Québec and Toronto, Absolut Blank finally came to Montreal – and A’Shop was obviously there in full force. The night featured a ton of art performances including a blacklight painting by Fluke, live portrait sketches by Axe, custom bodypaintings by the lovely Kalven Kay, and a live painting performance by Alex Scaner. Our favorites Pink Ladies, Lacey and Layla, also came with and totally brought the fun. "Internationally renowned graffiti crew A’Shop was in San Francisco a couple of weeks ago to work on Rose Gold’s Tattoo shop mural. Located in the midst of Upper Haight, Rose Gold’s is a fresh and upcoming tattoo shop that just recently opened its doors. We we’re thrilled to know that A’shop was chosen to showcase their skills in an artful mural. For those who we’re wondering, A’shop are also the ones responsible for the magnificient Lady of Grace Mural in N.D.G, Montreal. Talent to it’s core, these are moments when we realize we’re really proud to be Montrealers!"

A'Shop @ Osheaga 2012

Fluke, Zek, Oser, Heresy, and Phil represented A'Shop at Osheaga 2012 again this year with the support of the STM. For the most part the festival had some great weather, except for Sunday, but it didn't stop the A'Shop team or the 50,000 strong crowd from enjoying the event.

The Wall was a great collaboration between all the artists and the crowd even got to join in and stencil their own STM characters. Check out some of the shots of the event and the progress on the mural. Everyone worked together to pull off a great job and helped to make Osheaga a little more colorful and fun.

ZEK @ Jazz Fest 2012

A'Shop's own ZEK was one of the few graffiti artists invited to paint live this year during the Montreal Jazz Fest, along with MONK-E, Peru Dyer, Carlos Oliva, and ASTRO. Nemesis: A'Shop & APASHE

Nemesis, a videogame lounge, came to us to give new life to their party space. We decided to bring in APASHE, a French writer we’d recently met, to come work with us on this project; and we weren’t disappointed. His lettering work was amazing, and he was a blast to work with. And check out the amazing job Dodo did on the characters, especially Mario + Yoshi… crazy!

Nemesis, un centre de jeux vidéos, nous a contactés pour mettre un peu de punch à leur salle de fêtes et réceptions. Nous avons decidé d’inviter APASHE, un artiste Français que nous avions récemment rencontré, à collaborer avec nous; et nous n’avons pas été déçus! Son lettrage est impeccable et travailler avec lui a été une super expérience. Et à noter, le travail incroyable que Dodo a fait sur les personnages, surtout Mario&Yoshi… fou!

A'Shop's Little Helpers

Check out this amazing work that Zek and Dodo carried out in just one week! This project was so fun to pull off. We got to work in tandem with several people from La Maison de la Culture Maisonneuve, Y’a Quelqu’un L’Aut’Bord Du Mur, as well as parents and kids from the community. After an initial meetup to brainstorm and get everyone’s opinions, including the kids, we developed several concepts. This final one was picked by all and as soon as the weather was kind enough, Zek and Dodo set to work. The coolest part, however, was getting the neighbourhood kids involved. We left a special spot for them to add their mark on and once the mural was done, a bunch of them showed up to help finish the work. Check out the pics below, and get ready for some epic adorableness!

Zek et Dodo se sont surpassés en seulement une semaine! Un projet de murale qui a été super amusant à réaliser. On a pu travailler en collaboration avec La Maison de la Culture Maisonneuve, Y’a Quelqu’un L’Aut’Bord Du Mur, et plusieurs parents et enfants du voisinage. Après une rencontre initiale pour faire un brainstorm et noter les idées de tous, incluant les enfants, nous avons développé plusieurs concepts. Celui-ci a fait l’unanimité et aussitôt que la température l’a permis, Zek et Dodo se sont mis au travail. La meilleure partie du projet a été d’impliquer les enfants du quartier dans la création de la murale. Nous leur avons laissé un endroit spécifique pour laisser leur propre marque, et une fois la murale complétée, ils se sont présentés pour terminer le travail. Préparez-vous, il y a de l’adorable en abondance dans les photos!

Old Paris style

A good chunk of our month of May was spent working on this project: a realistic, sepia-toned depiction of old Paris architecture for the head offices of GB Cotton, a masonry supplier in St-Michel. This was a departure from our usual style, and was all brush work as opposed to spray paint so we called in some reinforcements to help out: FLEO came through for support, as well as Lacey and Layla, two amazingly talented visual artists, friends of A’Shop and all-around awesome chicks. With them as well as FLUKE, ZEK, and OSER working at it, the project took 2 weeks to complete and was totally worth it in the end. Check out the pictures for proof!

Notre mois de Mai s’est passé en grande partie à travailler sur ce projet : une murale réaliste de teinte sépia représentant l’architecture typique du vieux Paris aux bureaux-chef de GB Cotton, un fournisseur de maçonnerie à St-Michel. Le concept était différent de notre style habituel et le projet était à créer uniquement au pinceau plutôt qu’à l’aérosol, alors nous avons fait appel à quelques renforts : FLEO est venu donner un coup de main, ainsi que Lacey et Layla, deux artistes visuelles hyper talentueuses, amies du A’Shop et filles géniales en général. Avec leur aide ainsi que le travail de FLUKE, ZEK, et OSER, le projet a pris deux semaines à compléter et le résultat en a complètement valu la peine. La preuve est dans les photos!

Back to the roots

FLUKE and Phil got to kick off painting season this year by returning to their own old high school , Cavelier-de-Lasalle, for a 3-day graffiti workshop with a group of students. The first 2 workshops were held at the school so FLUKE and Phil returned to their roots, seeing their old teachers and revisiting their old classrooms where they got to talk graffiti, exchange ideas and go to work with each student on sketching out the production. On the first sunny day of the year, the group started off early with a visit to A’Shop where they got to see our studio space, then off to Sino Shop to stock up on paint, and finally set up at the legal wall on Rouen to clean up and prime the walls. The afternoon was spent painting an entire side of the tunnel, with FLUKE, Phil and OSER lending a hand. It was really cool to see each student develop their style and technique, and to chat with other writers who came out to paint that day. To top it off, the school came through with food and drinks and we got the barbecue going all afternoon – sunshine, paint, and good eats, what more could we ask for?

La saison de peinture estivale a commencé symboliquement pour FLUKE et Phil, qui ont eu la chance de revisiter leur ancienne école secondaire, Cavelier-de-Lasalle, pour une série de 3 ateliers sur le graffiti avec un groupe d’étudiants. Pour les deux premiers ateliers, FLUKE et Phil sont retournés au secondaire et ont pu revisiter leurs anciens profs et locaux de cours. Ils ont jasé graffiti avec les élèves, échangé des idées avec eux et les ont aidés à développer leurs sketchs pour la production. La première journée ensoleillée cette année, le groupe a commencé tôt avec une visite au A’Shop pour voir l’espace studio, a fait un arrêt au Sino Shop pour s’approvisionner en peinture, puis s’est installé au mur légal de la rue Rouen pour nettoyer l’espace et couvrir les murs d’une couche de fond. L’après-midi s’est passé à peindre tout un côté du tunnel, avec un coup de main de FLUKE, OSER, et Phil. C’était vraiment intéressant de voir chaque étudiant développer son style et sa technique, et de jaser avec d’autres artistes qui étaient venus peindre au soleil. En prime, Cavelier-de-Lasalle a fourni tout plein de bouffe et on a pu faire notre premier barbecue de l’année – soleil, peinture, et BBQ, qui peut demander plus?

District Griffintown with Scan & Zek

A’Shop’s Scan and Zek were invited to paint at Les Mecredis District in Griffintown on March 28th as part of the weekly campaign to promote new developments in the area.
