HTC Butterfly launched in Taiwan for NT$22,990

HTC has launched its new flagship Butterfly in the home country today. The smartphone has been priced at NT$22,990 (USD 790 approx.). Featuring quad-core processor and Android 4.1 Jelly Bean, HTC Butterfly will be available some time before the end-of-year in the market.

HTC has already released the phone in China and Japan countries in Asia. There is no word about the availability in other Asian countries, but we can speculate that it should start selling by January in most of the important HTC markets like India, Singapore and more.

“We are confident that HTC Butterfly will set a new example for high-end smartphones,” chief executive Peter Chou said at the launch in Taipei.

To remind you, HTC Butterfly comes with 5-inch Super LCD 3 FHD display, HSPA+ connectivity, 8MP rear camera, front camera, and 2020 mAH battery.

It will be sold in Black, White and Brown colours in Taiwan.

Toshiba AT200 super-slim Android tablet announced in Singapore

Toshiba has announced the launch world’s thinnest Honeycomb tablet AT200 in Singapore. It will be available in the country by the end of this month for S$849 (32 GB Wi-Fi only version).

First showcased last year at IFA, Toshiba’s AT200 features 10.1-inch display, 1.2GHz TI OMAP 4430 dual core processor, 5MP rear camera, and 2MP front camera. It currently runs on Android 3.2, but we expect company to push Ice Cream Sandwich update for the tablet soon.

It is also known as Excite 10 and Regza AT200 in other markets.

Samsung Galaxy Nexus, Galaxy Tab 7.7 arriving in Singapore on Feb 11

Samsung is finally going to release Galaxy Nexus on February 11 in Singapore. Considering the delay, company has decided to launch both White and Black color versions in the country. Galaxy Nexus will be sold for S$948. Samsung is also releasing Galaxy Tab 7.7 on the same day for S$898.

To remind you, Samsung Galaxy Nexus features 4.65 inch Super AMOLED HD display, 1.2GHz dual core TI OMAP processor, 5MP rear camera, 2MP front camera, 1GB RAM and Android 4.0. On the other hand, Galaxy Tab 7.7 features 1.4GHz dual core processor, 7.7 inch Super AMOLED Plus display, 3MP rear camera, 2MP front camera, 1GB RAM and Android 3.2.

Asus Eee Pad MeMo ME171 to go on sale in Taiwan next month

Asus has announced that Eee Pad MeMo ME171 will reach Taiwan stores in March/April. Company has not revealed the pricing right now and will be known closer to the launch.

Showed at last month’s Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas, Asus Eee Pad Memo ME171 features 7 inch display, 1.2GHz dual core processor and Android 4.0. You can check the full set of specs below.

NTT Docomo, Disney unveil two smartphones in Japan

NTT Docomo has launched two Disney branded smartphones on its network in Japan yesterday. Targeted to women and families with small children, these smartphones comes with heavily customized builds of Android 2.3

Dubbed as F-08D and P-05D, these have been manufactured by Fujistu and Panasonic respectively.

Panasonic P-05D: Android 2.3, 4.3-inch 720p OLED screen, 1.2GHz dual-core processor, 13.1MP camera. March 31 (launch)

Fujitsu F-08D: Android 2.3 4.3-inch 960×540 display, 8MP camera and 1GHz processor. February 17 (Pre-orders start), Feb-end (launch)

Both phones feature the usual Japan-specific features infrared, one-seg TV and o-saifu keitai NFC. Smartphone buyers will be able to access the Disney app market and download special apps and games for the smartphones, including Disney cinema.

Samsung sells 700,000 Galaxy Note units in South Korea

Samsung has announced that it has sold over 700,000 units of Galaxy Note smartphone in the hone country South Korea till now. Company, which also started selling the LTE enable model of Note in the country, has captured 66pc of the LTE market in January. It is significant because LG’s Optimus LTE has been selling pretty well in South Korea and is a direct competitor to Galaxy Note.

To remind you, Samsung had stated in Dec-end that Note sales have crossed 1 million globally and would rise considering the upcoming launch of smartphone in lucrative US market.

Koobe, Qualcomm launch Android powered Mirasol ‘Jin Yong E-Reader’

Qualcomm and Taiwanese company Koobe have released the fourth device with Mirasol display technology. Powered by Android 2.3 (custom UI on top), Koobe Jin Yong Reader features a 5.7 inch “XGA” touchscreen display with 1024x728p resolution, and 1GHz Snapdragon S2 processor.

It is expected to be available in Taiwan soon. There is no word on the pricing or the exact availability date. Named after popular Chinese novelist, this e-reader will come with 15 of Jin Yong’s books pre-loaded.

Huawei releases Honor U8860 White in China with Android 4.0 Update

Huawei has announced the White variant of its flagship smartphone Honor in China recently. It will go on sale with China Unicom around Jan-end in time Valentine’s Day. What is more interesting about this launch is the presence of Android 4.0 on the device.

Also known as Huawei Glory U8860, it features 4 inch FWVGA display, 1.4GHz processor, 8MP camera with HDR support, 2MP front shooter and 1900 mAh battery. It is expected to be priced around 2499 Yuan.

Company has also released the ICS update for Black version buyers in China and it is 234.73MB in size and can be downloaded from their website. It includes all the prominent ICS features like Face Unlock, Robota Font, UI Changes etc.

Samsung Galaxy S II sales cross 5 million units in South Korea

Samsung has announced that it has sold over 5 million units of its flagship Galaxy S II in its home-country till now. It took around four months for the company to reach this milestone from 3.5 million unit sales in late September.

With this number, we can expect S II reach a total of 15 million sales soon. To remind you, Galaxy S II comes with 1.2GHz dual core processor, 4.27 inch Super AMOLED Plus display, 1GB RAM and Android 2.3. Company has already promised Ice cream Sandwich update for the phone.

Cowon launches Z2 Plenue Android PMP in South Korea

After D3 Plenue, Cowon has jumped again in the Android arena with the launch of Z2 Plenue Android media player. This PMP is schedule to go on sale in South Korea soon, and will be available in 8/16/32GB memory variants.

Cowon Z2 Plenue features a 1GHz single core processor, 800MHZ VPU, 320MHz MALI3D, 3.7 inch AMOLED display with 800×480p resolution, 512MB RAM, Android 2.3, FM Radio, HDMI out, JetEffect 3.0 & BBE + with 39 presets and microSD slot. As you would expect, it comes with support for plethora of codecs.

It will compete with the likes of Galaxy Player 3.6, and Sony Z series. In terms of pricing the 8GB version has been priced around 190,000 won, while 16 and 32GB versions will go for 259,000 won and 339,000 won.
