If you are interested in learning to play the guitar then the best method is to find a teacher with a good reputation. They can show you how to master the basics before moving on to more complex aspects, and also teach you to read music - essential if you are interested in playing different types of music and want to improve your technique.

You have to be committed if you really want to play the guitar well as it takes time and practice, so if you don’t have either of these then don’t go wasting your money on an expensive guitar to start with. Check that your teacher has experience and will teach you a style you are interested in, as tutoring can vary greatly from one teacher to another it’s necessary to do your research before committing yourself to any particular one. If you are really motivated and put the time in it won’t take you that long to learn a few basic tunes. Once you have mastered the basics it is just one step further to being able to play whatever you like.

The disadvantage to getting a personal tutor is the cost. If you don’t have the funds for a professional then there is another alternative, and that is to teach yourself.

Look online and you’ll find lots of help from experts in guitar playing who have set up their own websites. Incorporating short videos onto their website means you can see how your fingers are supposed to be positioned and learn simple chord progressions and scales much more effectively than from a book. It’s also far more interesting than simply teaching yourself at home. Videos allow you to pause or stop the video whenever you choose so you can learn in your own time and take as long as you like without feeling pressured.

Many guitar professionals now also hold lessons online. Although you have to pay for them, the prices are lower and work out a lot cheaper than having a private tutorial. There are all kinds of guitar styles to start with, so choose a song you actually like and are familiar with as this will encourage you to play it more. It’s a good idea to get together with a friend who wants to learn too and arrange a set time every day or week to practice. It can be de-motivating learning alone, and if you have a scheduled time with a partner then you are more likely to practice.

You can buy sheet music from any specialist music shop, or look online for a broad selection of legal digital sheet music and guitar tab downloads available for musicians. The ability to play real songs from a wide variety of musical genres is a great motivator to keep on practicing.

Be warned that you will get very sore fingers when you first begin to play, eventually your fingers will toughen up and you’ll develop calluses. Don’t give up just because of this, after the pain will come pleasure, we promise! Remember that you have to learn the basics before you can play the good stuff, so persevere and you’ll be able to play great riffs and your favorite songs sooner rather than later.

Your first guitar doesn’t have to be very expensive, or even a well-known brand name, but it is worth paying a bit extra for quality. It will last you a lot longer than a cheaper model and produce a better sound. Look online for affordable guitar sheet music and save yourself money and time.

If you don’t want to be one of the thousands who invest in a guitar and then get bored or fed up as they can’t master it quickly enough, then be motivated and learn online for speed and convenience. You can practice at any time of the day or night depending on your schedule and stop and start the lesson exactly when you decide. There is nobody else in the lesson to hold you back, so go and get started!

After years of rumors and false starts, the 1980s classic The A-Team is finally coming to the movie theaters. Fans of the old TV series need not be worried, this new film is everything you could have hoped for.

The back story of the movie remains pretty true to the TV series. The A-team is a group of United States special forces members who were framed for war crimes that they did not commit. Constantly on the run from the U.S. Government who is trying to hunt them down as war criminals, these 4 guys end up doing good deeds by helping innocent people who are in trouble.

In the TV series these guys were former Vietnam veterans. Since the last episode was over 20 years ago, the producers have updated the story slightly and made them Iraqi war veterans.

When I saw the advance screening I damn near did a double-take as each of the 4 principle characters look almost identical to their 1980s counterparts.

Firstly, multiple Oscar nominee Liam Neeson plays the leader of the A-Team Colonel John “Hannibal” Smith. Hannibal was played originally by George Peppard, and I don’t know what they did to Neeson to make him look so much like Peppard. It’s astonishing. Liam spends much of the movie chomping on that old familiar cigar and coming up with some very unorthodox schemes, which always get the other guys eyes rolling.

Lieutenant Templeton “Faceman” Peck is played by Bradley Cooper (Dirk Benedict played Peck in the TV show). Always referred to as just “Face”, he is the good looking, smooth-talking one of the bunch who uses his charm and charisma to talk people out of items that the A-Team is in immediate need of. Need a fighter plane? …. let Face get it.

Sharlto Copley plays the team’s pilot, Captain H.M. “Howling Mad” Murdock. Not many pilots can claim they have been declared insane, but Murdock can. He is such a good flyer that the rest of the team can overlook his “special circumstances”. Murdock was played by Dwight Schultz originally.

Finally there is Sergeant Bosco Albert B.A. “Bad Attitude” Baracus. He is the “muscle” of the quartet and has all the best quotes. This is the role that made Mr. T famous worldwide back in the 1980s. The producers knew they could not screw up the casting of this character, so they put Ultimate Fighting champion Quinton ‘Rampage’ Jackson in the part. This was probably the best choice they made as Jackson looks and sounds just like Mr T. Each time he grunts “fool!” the memories come flooding back.

Critics of the TV series always lamented how violent the show was. While it was true there were always gunfire, explosions and buildings being destroyed, no one ever got seriously hurt. Heck, almost no one got even as much as a bruise!.

This time it is much different. You can’t have a high-voltage action-adventure movie without people getting hurt. The body count is high in The A-Team 2010. The bad guys (and some good ones) get what is coming to them.

The special effects are unbelievable. The explosions rock the room you’re in and are almost non-stop. Apparently being ex-special forces means you can still get your hands on the biggest explosives made.

If this movie does well you can expect sequels. The ending is set up that way, though I won’t divulge any secrets. Safe to say that the final firefight is among the most complex and riveting battle scenes ever filmed.

Listening to a music album and listening to a live music concert is as different as chalk and cheese. There is an energy and vitality to watching a star in action. When you are listening to your favorite songs being sung on stage, you simply lose yourself. That is how you will feel with Michael Buble tickets in your hand

History

Michael started his career on a promising note at the tender age of 16. He first sang in nightclubs. His grandparents helped him start his singing career. They supported him and did everything possible to make sure that he got a good start

At the time when there was little possibility of Michael Buble tickets, his Italian grandfather bartered his plumbing services so that Michael could have some stage time of his own. He also paid for his singing lessons.

By the age of 18, Michael was singing pretty well and entered a local talent show and won. But later on he was disqualified by the organizer on account of being underage. However, the organizer Bev Delich, helped him get into another talent show the ‘Canadian Youth Talent Show’, which of course he won.

Delich went on to become his manager for the next seven years. Buble sang in a lot of arenas where people who managed Michael Buble tickets heard him. He got a breakthrough when Michael McSweeney saw him perform in one such event. McSweeney later introduced him to the right people.

He released his debut album titled ‘Michael Buble’ in 2003. The album achieved success in Canada, UK and reached the #1 position in Australia. The album included hits like ‘Kissing a fool’ and ‘How can you mend a broken heart’.

In 2004, some of Michal’s songs were released on DVD ‘Come Fly with me’. If you had acquired Michael Buble tickets, you would have realized that it contained actual footage from his first world tour.

By Feb 2005, he had released his second album ‘Its Time’ and in May 2007 he released ‘Call me Irresponsible’. Both were appreciated and shared space on the Billboards with other singing sensations. ‘Call me Irresponsible’ sold 2 million copies in the US alone.

Crazy Love

Michael released his 4th album ‘Crazy Love’ in October 2009 for which he will be on tour in March 2010 and Michael Buble tickets available. During the recording sessions, it is said that he wanted the doors of the recording studio to be left open to give to his fans the real feel of recording in a studio - ‘to feel like they were sitting with him’.

Michael Buble will be on tour to promote his latest album, ‘Crazy Love’. On 10th March 2010, he will start his journey from Orlando in Florida and will cover 19 cities across the country before going to Europe in May 2010.

Bubble likes to walk through the crowds during his concerts. Who knows, you might be able to see him up close and hear him sing, standing right next to you.

The muscles controlling and surrounding the larynx represent one of the most important control system affecting the human voice. For most singers, learning to stabilize the larynx is essential for vocal health, the increase of range, and the proper blending of chest and head voice. In this article I will attempt to shed some light on larynx position and offer some exercises that can help you improve your voice by stabilizing your larynx. Keep in mind that full time voice students may spend years on this! But a little awareness goes a long way in saving your voice from the harm caused by singing on a high larynx.

The Problem of a High Larynx

Consider the larynx to be a basket floating in a complicated web of tendons and membranes inside your throat. Your goal is to not allow the larynx to rise too much as you sing from low notes to high notes. To find your larynx, put your finger on the V that you feel in the front of your throat (commonly, the adams apple: the original problem ?) If you swallow, you feel it rise. We refer to this as constriction, because you are squeezing the space around the larynx. Good for eating, bad for singing!

You can tell if you’re singing on a high larynx if you notice:

A heavy chest voice and a large break between your chest voice and head voice

Vocal cords that feel scratchy and producing a lot of mucous

Your voice feels worse the next day after singing

Your head voice feels breathy, airy, and unfocused

There are some differing views on whether or not a high larynx is harmful or not, with some techniques suggesting that it’s acceptable (even desirable!) , and others suggesting that your larynx should be as low as possible. I base my findings on eighteen years of teaching, and constant study and testing of new ideas. I believe that advanced singers can learn to sing with a high larynx, provided that they are working with a professional who knows what they’re doing. For most beginning singers, however, a larynx that is too high and surrounded by tense muscles can lead to significant problems with the voice.

Keep in mind that larynx control is only one of the five control systems I describe in my vocal method:

All of these systems function in concert, with stability of the larynx representing a long term goal of the method. The larynx houses the vocal cords, and operates in relationship with the whole voice (body, mind and Spirit), and is not in any way isolated. Each system effects the other systems in a structure of balance and coordination.

How to Stabilize your Larynx

There are a lot of techniques to help stabilize the larynx, but the first step of this long journey begins with awareness. Keep in mind that professional singers spend years getting this right! With your finger on the V of your larynx (or adams apple) sing along with a scale and notice if it is rising and falling with pitch. Notice the difference between different vowels: Sing oo (like boot), and then sing Ah (like Father). I refer to this as the kinesthetic approach: which means that you feel what’s happening with your body. Gaining awareness of the position of your larynx is the first step

Next, consider your larynx to be a basket floating in a network of attachments, some reach up into the jaw, tongue, and head, and some reach down into the chest, sternum and lower body. We want to relax the neck, jaw, and muscles around the larynx, so we can avoid the unconscious reflex that pull up on the larynx when we sing high. As you sing your scales, place your hands on the back of your neck and notice if there’s tension. Next, place your hands on your jaw, and check to see if your jaw is clenching at all. The more release you have in these muscles, the easier it will be to stabilize your larynx.

Proper breath support is also important in order to stabilize your larynx. The basics of this are

1.Breathe in without motion in your neck, shoulders, or face

2.As you inhale, feel your stomach inflate

3.As you sing a scale or song, keep some gentle pressure out against your abdominal wall

4.As you’re singing, try not to let your stomach contract suddenly

By: John Scott

The vocal cords are the critical system in a healthy functioning voice. Singers who injure their voices generally have damaged their vocal cords, while singers who project with ease and power have vocal cords that are healthy, strong, and coordinated. Many singers are unaware of the simple and effective techniques that can be used to keep their vocal cords healthy:

1.Stay hydrated, drinking at least two liters of water daily

2.Avoid clearing your throat

3.If you feel your voice getting tired with a scratchy or tingly sensation, stop singing

4.Avoid using a glottal attack

5.Engage the the vocal cords by actively speaking the words of your song

The Structure of your Vocal Cords

Your vocal cords are capable of amazing feats. They can vibrate at more than 1000 cycles per second, and resist large amounts of pressure and energy with great speed and, dexterity. The vocal cords are surrounded by three layers of mucous that act as a lubricant; a special protective coating that allow the vocal cords to contact each other and cycle through the sound waves at very high speeds and volume. It’s helpful to consider the “water structure” of the vocal cords, and recognize the essential role that mucous plays in the health of the vocal cords. In order for them to function properly, you must drink enough water!

Similarly, clearing your throat is to be avoided, because it scrapes off this precious mucous so necessary to the high speed vibration of the vocal cords. When you clear your voice because of “phlegm”, your body will immediately send more to continue to protect the vulnerable layers of muscle that lay beneath the outer layers of mucous. If you continue to clear and sing, these inner layers of the vocal cords will swell up, preventing an even closure and resulting in a broken sound. That is why if you feel your vocal cords starting to get inflamed with a scratchy or tingly sensation, it is important to stop singing right away. Sometimes it only takes a minute or two for them to recover, but sometimes longer, much longer to recover depending on the extent of the injury to the inner layer of the vocal cord.

Adduction, or Vocal Cord Closure

When you make a sound, the vocal chords begin to vibrate, or adduct, The opposite of adduction is abduction (when things are taken apart from each other). The critical moment for a singer is when adduction is initiated after breathing, because the first wave of vocal cord closure requires the most energy, and sets up the dynamics for whatever notes follow. In other words, when you start to sing, don’t blast your vocal cords with too much air, but try to engage them gradually on the flow or air, avoiding any muscular motion in your throat. When you initiate adduction properly, your voice flows effortlessly with power and emotion. This we will refer to as balanced initiation, where air meets vocal cord in perfect balance and energy.

The chief enemy of this balanced initiation of the vocal cords is the glottal attack. A glottal attack happens when the epiglottis closes and releases at the moment of initiation. This can be a little subtle to detect at first, but the easiest way to learn and understand it is to watch my video describing the vocal cords. You can feel the epiglottis closing when you swallow or cough, but the most dramatic feeling comes if you pretend to throw up (Yuck!). The epiglottis closes the throat and protects the voice and lungs from liquid intrusion. When you sing, it’s easy to use a glottal attack to initiate adduction, but it will lead to damage of the vocal cords, limit your range, cause you to run out of breath and sing of key. In other words, it’s simpler for the brain to figure out pitch with the glottal attack, but everything that happens after that first split second of initation is doomed! This is why:

Immense pressure can be restrained with the epiglottis, much more than the vocal cords can handle generally. Once the epiglottis is released, the vocal cords become overwhelmed with air pressure, and cannot sustain the adduction for very long.

The action of the glottal attack scrapes the mucous off of the the vocal cords, causing strain and inflamation.

The closure of the windpipe at the epiglottis causes the resonant spaces above the larynx to become blocked, preventing the pharynx and head voice from resonating, and preventing an even blend between chest voice and head voice.

Engaging the Vocal Cords

Singing is not all about relaxation. If you completely relaxed everything, there would be no sound! The art of singing well is the proper engagement of the “little” muscles that control the vocal cords, while relaxing the “big” outer muscles that interfere with proper functioning of the voice. The “Big Muscle” groups that can interfere with the functioning of the vocal cords are :

The jaw

The neck

The tongue

The epiglottis (when initiating with a glottal attack)

Some of the “Little Muscle” groups inside the larynx that control the voice at the Balance Point are the:

Thyroaratanoid (TA) muscle (primarly controling the chest voice and making the pitch lower)

Cricothyroid (CT) muscle (primarily controling the head voice and making the pitch higher.

It is an oversimplification to describe the workings of the vocal cords limited to these two muscles, because in reality there are several sub muscle groups working together to control the vocal cords, and the way in which the operate is highly complex. But for the purposes of understanding, it is helpful to imagine just two, with the TA muscle grounding you to your lower, chest notes, and the CT muscle grounding you to your higher, head voice notes. Here again, the video is most helpful to hear the action of these muscles. The key to the health of the vocal cords is the effective engagement of the TA and the CT muscles, without tightening the Big muscle groups that constrict the muscles surrounding the larynx and vocal cords. This engagement I refer to as “Good Grip”, and makes the voice have a somewhat reedy or edgy quality. It is the quality of speech, which I refer to as the Balance Point.

There is a misconception among many singers about the notion of grip, because many singers mistakenly believe that there should be complete relaxation in the voice box. If you sing this way, your voice will be very breathy and airy, and you will run out of breath quickly. The result of this insufficient adduction is a very tired voice, because inevitably, the lack of grip at the vocal cord level results in an activation of the big outer muscles, or a “Bad Grip” of the voice. All of this can be simply discovered by watching your face as you sing. Are there tendons sticking out in your neck? Is your face wrinkled as you sing high? Is your tongue shriveling up as you sing? Work to relax the big muscles you can see with your eyes, and engage the little muscles inside the larynx that give the voice the spoken, edgy quality of adduction.

The master concept behind the control of the vocal cords is the action of speech, or the Balance Point. When you talk with a sincere, natural voice, your vocal cords adduct. Singing requires a wider dynamic range of pitch and volume, and so it can be difficult to maintain adduction of the vocal cords. But the moment that the vocal cords stop adducting, whether due to too much air pressure, tension in the outer muscles, or some other imbalance in the voice, the listener can perceive that the artist is no longer “sincere”, and the song looses it’s meaning. Therefore, the quest for the proper vocal technique is a quest for sincerity or honesty, where the message of the song comes through you with power, clarity, and emotion. Having good coordination of the vocal cords and surrounding muscles is the key to this goal.

Despite missing out on a place in the Britain’s Got Talent final and losing the chance to perform at the Royal Variety Show, comedy pianist, Kev Orkian, has already performed for several members of the Royal family.

Kev Orkian, has entertained Prince Charles, Prince Philip and Princess Michael of Kent, piping winners Spelbound to the post of performing for Royalty.

Orkian was invited to perform for Prince Charles at Windsor Castle for the British Forces Foundation 10th Gala Dinner. Classical singer Katherine Jenkins and comedian David Walliams also attended. Orkian was granted access to one of the castle’s bedrooms to prepare for the comedy piano sketch and he recalls the moment he turned to see Prince Charles turn bright red with laughter during his act: “I was amazed”. After the sketch, Prince Charles congratulated him and said he was an “absolute genius”.

Orkian was recently invited to perform at the Guards Polo Club where Prince Philip was celebrating his 89th birthday at the Queens 50th Anniversary Cup Dinner. Prince Philip was due to leave before Orkian got on stage but as soon as Prince Philip heard the comedy sketch, he stayed for the entire performance. He congratulated Orkian afterwards and said: “It is a wonderful show. I thoroughly enjoyed your performance”.

Orkian was booted off the ITV1 talent contest during the semi-final stages. Amanda Holden branded him a ‘genius’ whilst TV’s Mr. Nasty, Simon Cowell, deemed him a “one-trick pony”.

Maybe Prince Charles should be considered to replace Piers Morgan as a judge on Britain’s Got Talent? Clearly he knows good talent when he sees it.

And so does the world’s largest arts festival! The perfect foreground for his hugely entertaining blend of piano playing, stand up comedy, acting and singing, audiences will be able to catch Kev’s act at the prestigious and world-renowned Edinburgh Fringe Festival in August later this year – the perfect gig to cement a rising star and an incredible year of accomplishments!
