Note before upgrading, backup your device is a smart action that could help you out of troubles in many cases. To do that, in iTunes screen, click on “Back Up Now” button in “Backups” section.

I assume that your Gmail interface now is the same like below, standard Gmail interface without Gmail tab enabled.

Just because we did not enable tabs for Gmail, so we have to use “Configure inbox” setting to set it up. Move your mouse to the right of Gmail interface, where you can see a gear icon. Click on it and then click on “Configure inbox” option in the middle of the drop-down menu.

Then Google Gmail will show up a dialog allow you to choose which tabs to enable. Most important you should know is that unlike labels, which you can create dynamically by yourself, Gmail tabs are default and defined by Google in 5 types: Primary, Social, Promotions, Updates, and Forums. Primary Gmail tab will include person-to-person emails and other starred emails in other tabs (you should enable another option to have this). Other Gmail tabs will include email based on Google Gmail consideration. However, you can change this behavior by moving messages from tab to tab which I will talk later.

So, let’s click on checkbox before each Gmail tab name to enable it. Below of tabs selection section, you can see a section named “Starred messages”. Click on checkbox “Include starred in Primary” to check it so that all of other Gmail tabs starred messages will be shown in Primary tab. Then click “Save” to store your settings.

Then you will have tabs in your Gmail inbox like below.

As I mentioned before, Google automatically classifies and defines which tab that messages will be stored in. You can change this behavior by moving messages between Gmail tabs. Move your mouse to the beginning of the messages where your pointer become hand like below.

Click left mouse, keep it and move your messages to the Gmail tab you want. Then release your mouse.

After moving your messages to the desired tab, Google will show up a little message near the top-center of Gmail interface. It is asking you whether you want all new same kind of messages (based on email address) will be move to desired tab or not. Click “Yes” if you want or ignore it to let Google use default actions.

One more thing to say is whenever Gmail tab is enabled, you can easily choose which tabs to be shown by click “Plus” button beside the last tab. Click on this button will bring back the “Select tabs to enable” dialog.

Here the fact that I’ve switched to Outlook 2013 months ago, so do not have Outlook 2010 to exactly guide you. However, it should be the same in Outlook 2010, except the way to access Outlook Options. Then here is what we have to do.

First, click on the “FILE” tab of your Outlook screen. That will open File menu likes in older versions of Outlook.

In the drop-down menu, find and click on “Options” near the bottom of the menu.

Then Outlook will show you “Outlook Options” window. All of Outlook settings can be set from this window. To increase font size of your replying message, click on “Mail” in the left panel. Then look at “Compose messages” section in the right panel. There you will see a button named “Stationery and Fonts”. Click on that button.

It will open “Signatures and Stationery” window where you can set your signature and also the font format for your email. To set the font size, click on the tab “Personal Stationery”. In this tab page, you can see that we can do change the font for both new or reply/forwarding messages. To increase font size in the replying or forwarding messages, click on the “Font” button bellow the label “Replying or forwarding messages”. You should be click on “OK” button after finishing set the font in the next step.

In the “Font” window, just set the font settings as you want. Here, I just want to increase font size, so I changed the size to 20. After that, click on “OK” button to confirm your setting.

Then click on necessary “OK” buttons on opening windows to go back to the main window of Outlook. Try to do reply one of your email. Here you can see in the replying content, the font size is big enough, of course, for me.

Firstly, and most important maybe the desktop background. Just because, 80% of your time will be back to your desktop. To change background of your desktop, right-click your mouse on the desktop and choose “Personalize” in the pop-up context menu.

In the “Personalization” window, look at the bottom, you can see an item named “Desktop Background”. Click on it.

This clicking will open “Desktop Background” window, where you can change background for Windows 8 desktop. You can choose “Picture location” and then click on existing pictures already included in Windows 8. Or you can choose your own background pictures by clicking on “Browse” button.

Browse to choose the location of your pictures folder. Then click on “OK” to choose that location.

After choosing the picture location, we will be at that location. You can see many pictures from that folder showed up for you to choose. You can move your mouse to choose one picture and click “Save changes” to set that picture as your desktop background.

Another feature that Windows 8 brings to you is background slide show. It means you can select multiple picture files and then Windows 8 will rotate them as desktop background. To do that, in this screen, click on “Select all” to select all the pictures.  Then choose the settings for “Change picture every” section like the time and shuffle or sequential. After that click on “Save changes” to store your setting.

Then your desktop background will be changed to what you have chosen.

Now let’s dig into how to change background for your lock screen and start screen. Move your mouse to the bottom right of the screen then click on Settings on the Charm bar.

Click to choose “Change PC Settings”.

Now the “PC Settings” window will showed up with Personalize tab opened. In this tab, we can do change background for Lock Screen and Start Screen. Here we can see that Lock Screen background setting are opened by default. We can choose Microsoft-provided pictures or click on “Browse” button to choose our own picture. After choosing, Windows 8 will automatically save the setting, you don’t have to click any button.

For changing Start Screen background, click on “Start screen” tab nearby the “Lock screen”. Here we can only select pre-defined background pictures and also the color for Start Screen. Choose what you want and that’s enough. Windows 8 will remember and set it for you.

Two-step verification works by adding an extra layer of security to your Apple ID. It means that in addition to your username and password, you will need to enter a 4-digit verification code that Apple will send you through Find My iPhone notifications or SMS.

To start the journey, go to http://appleid.apple.com using desktop browsers like Internet Explorer, Google Chrome … or devices’ browser like Safari. We can see the Apple ID interface here. Click on “Manage your Apple ID”.

On the Sign in page, type in your Apple ID username and password and then click on “Sign in” button.

Look at the right side the page and click your mouse on “Password and Security”. That will bring you to page that allow you to enable two-step verification for your Apple ID.

For security purpose, Apple need you to answer two random security questions from the three security questions that you have already defined when creating that Apple ID. Read the question careful and answer exactly what you have defined. After that, click on “Continue” button.

Then you will go to “Manage your security settings.” page. Look carefully below “Two-Step Verification” and click on “Get started…” link. Keep focus cause it is so small.

Then the introduction about Apple ID two-step verification comes up. Read it because it reflects the exact working way of two-step verification for Apple ID (just for your knowledge). Then click on “Continue” button.

The next page is somewhat the same like last page mentioned. Just click on “Continue” button.  Then Apple will take you to the identical page with only a change is green icons becoming red icons. Just click on “Continue” to accept this.

The result is Apple requires us to wait 3 days to continue enable two-step verification. That helps Apple ensure that only and only you have just made that action. If not you, just follow Apple’s instructions in emails they have sent you: “please reset your account password immediately by going to My Apple ID.”

And one thing to know is Apple did not offer two-step verification to all coutry as the same time. Apple states that “Initially, two-step verification is being offered in the U.S., UK, Australia, Ireland, and New Zealand. Additional countries will be added over time. When your country is added, two-step verification will automatically appear in the Password and Security section of Manage My Apple ID when you sign in to My Apple ID.”

After 3 days, please go back to Apple ID page, go to “Passwords and Security” like previous,  then click on “Get started …” in “Two-Step authentication” section. The process will start again. Click on “Get Started” to continue.

Then you will go through 4 steps of verifying. First one is verify your trust devices (e.g. your iPhone). Click on “Verify” link like image below.

Apple will send you a temporary verification code. Input it into “Verification Code:” section, then click on “Verify Device”.

Like other two-step authentication services, Apple also provides verification code through SMS. Here, we can see that Apple supports only 5 countries: Australia, Ireland, New Zealand, United Kingdom, United States. If you are in these countries, input your phone number and click “Next”. I am in Vietnam so I have to click “Skip” button.

Then you can see a green “Verified” text beside your device name. Click on “Continue”.

Apple here recommend you to verify another trusted device. Just click “Continue” to go on.

Then you will have a “Recovery Key”. Write it down on a safe place because you will need it in the future. Then click on “Continue”.

You have to confirm that you’ve already stored Recovery Key by inputing it again. If correct, you can see a green mark beside your input box. Then click on “Confirm”.

Here is one more confirmation step. Click to check “I understand the conditions above.” then click on “Enable two-step Verification”.

That you’ve done.

From now on, every time you want to manage your Apple ID, you not only provide password but also a verification code sent to your trusted device.

Let’s follow those step-by-step instructions:

Look at the top right corner of your Gmail interface, you can see an upside down icon near your Gmail account name (username@gmail.com). Click on it then click on “Account” link in the drop-down box. “Account” link will take you to Account setting page of Google.

Move your mouse to the left menu bar and click on “Products” link.

You can see that my Google account has so many Google products including Gmail account. Click on “Edit” link beside of “Your products” title.

Google allows you not only to cancel your Gmail account but also to cancel all of Google products related to your Google account. For most of cases, I recommend to choose “Close account and delete all services and info associated with it”. However, here we should click on “Remove Gmail permanently”.

Like other web apps and services on the Internet, Google also want to take confirmation and verification from you in case of accidentally deleting. In this page, you should check to select “Yes, I want to permanently delete xxxx@gmail.com and remove it from my Google account”. Then inputting your new primary email, which will be your username to sign in Google and access others Google products. Be remember that this email should be an external email, not another Gmail account. Because Google until now do not allow to merge content from two different Google accounts. Then type in your “Current password” to make another layer of authentication and confirmation, and click on “REMOVE GMAIL” button. 

Then Google need to send a verify email to your new primary address to make sure that you own that email and also sure that you want to cancel Gmail account.

Go to the Inbox of your external email that you’ve inputted already. You can see an email with content like below. Click on the link that Google gave you.

That link will take you to Google Verify page. Here you need to take to input the “Password” and click on “Verify”. It seems long procedure, huh. Don’t worry, it will end sooner. This is the last step.

Wow, “You’ve successfully deleted your Gmail address”. Here you can choose some reason that you feel suitable for you and click on “Submit”. Otherwise, just leave it.

In case you want to turn back your time, Google states that: “Residual copies of deleted messages and accounts may take up to 60 days to be deleted from our active servers and may remain in our backup systems for an additional period of time. If you delete your Gmail address but wish to have it back, we work to help you recover your deleted accounts whenever possible. However, within a few weeks’ time, accounts are usually no longer retrievable. Note that a successful recovery will only recover the username associated with the account.”

Moreover, if you want only to change the Gmail username, there is another way to do that. I will cover it later. Keep up with me.

We all know that Java is a programming language created by Sun Microsystems and now owned by Oracle. The Java plug-in powers some of the most interactive Web-based applications out there, from games to chat windows. To run Java applications from Google’s Chrome browser, you must install Java Update 12 or newer of Java 6. Let’s see what we have to do to install Google Chrome Java plugin.

Now, go to our website. We can see that whenever we access Java enabled website by Google Chrome, Google Chrome will notify us to install Java plugin if we didn’t before. Click on the button “Install plug-in” to install Google Chrome Java plugin.

Then Google Chrome will take us to the download page of Java plugin. You can directly access to this site by visiting Java plugin download page. On this page, click on “Free Java Download”.

Click on “Agree and Start Free Download” on the next page to accept the terms of services.

Then Google Chrome will start download the plugin for you. After finishing download, look at the bottom left of your browser, you can see a downloaded file here. Click on this file.

Then the Google Chrome Java plugin setup will start. Click on “Install” to start the installing.

By clicking “Install”, the Setup program will download Java parts from the Internet to your computer.

With a normal Internet link (6Mpbs), the downloading and installing of Chrome Java plugin is so fast. Click on button “Close” to close the Setup program.

Now restart your Google Chrome and go back to Java enabled site. Here I will go to testing page of Java.com. After going there, we have to click on button “Run this time” or “Always run on this site” in Google Chrome notification bar in order to run Java plugin. Google Chrome always display this notification for Java enabled site for security.

Then Java itself also ask you permission to run this Java application. You have to check “Do not show this again for apps from the publisher and location above” and click on “Run” button.

The result is here. Google Chrome Java plugin has been installed and verified by Java.com.

Google email service allows you to check mail from other accounts using POP3 protocol. Then all the emails from these accounts will be placed consolidated in your Gmail mailbox. You can do things like add label to these emails, archive them (not displaying them in Gmail inbox) which we will explore later.

Now, stay focus on what we will do. On your Gmail interface, look at the top right corner and you can see a gear icon. That’s what you have to click on. Click on that gear icon then choose “Settings” in the drop-down list.

Then Google will take you into Settings interface of Gmail. Click on the link “Accounts”, then find the “Check mail from other accounts (using POP3)” section. You can see a link named “Add a POP 3 mail account you own”. Click on it right now.

After click on “Add a POP3 mail account you own”, a pop-up window will raise up for you to start add email account for checking from Gmail. In this pop-up window, type in the email address/email account that you want to check for then click on “Next Step”.

On the next window, we will have to define some options for this email account. Firstly, you have to define the connection settings (Username/Password/POP3 server, Port) for this mail account. These settings are usually provided at your hand. Just type them in. I also recommend to check the option “Leave a copy of retrieved message on the server”. It provide you other backup places for your emails.

Other things that we mentioned before is ability to “Label incoming messages” and “Archive incoming messages (Skip the inbox)”. Click to check the checkbox before each option to set it. These options help you to differentiate emails from different accounts. After setting what you need, click on “Add Account” button.

It’s all done. After clicking on “Add Account” with proper information inputted, you will see Gmail check mail from other accounts immediately.

Now this tip is in your hand. Add as many email accounts as you want to your Gmail fetcher and enjoy your consolidation mailbox.

In previous versions of Excel, this greying out was the case if you activated “Page Setup” from the “Print Preview” option but not through “File” -> “Page Setup”.  However, Microsoft has change the interface of the Office package since Microsoft Office version 2007. In the shuffling of the user interface from 2007 onwards, “File” -> “Print” is effectively the equivalent of the old “Print Preview” and the “Page Setup” option in the “Page Layout” tab the equivalent of the “old” “File” -> “Page Setup”.

By default the option for setting print area, “Rows to repeat” and “columns to repeat” are greyed out if you display the “Page Setup” dialog via the “Print” option. I would suggest using the “Print Titles” button on the “Page Layout” tab in the ribbon to make the necessary changes.

Let’s see my example, I have two pages worksheet. As we can see, without repeating title rows (or top rows) we cannot know what column meaning in the second page.

Now go directly to your Excel file, choose the “PAGE LAYOUT” tab of Ribbon bar then click on “Print Titles”.

Then we will go to Page Setup dialog. Look under the Print titles, you can see “Rows to repeat at top”. That is what you want. Click on the right-side of the input box.

Then you will back to your Excel file will dialog named “Page Setup – Rows to repeat at top:”. Move your mouse to window edge and choose the rows to repeat. Here the range I choose is from first row to seventh row. Then push the “Enter” button.

Now Excel will back to Page Setup dialog. We can see the value we choose is displayed in right place. Click on Preview button to see the result.

It’s here, Excel do repeat top rows across the printing pages.

To create Microsoft account, you can use either PC settings in Windows 8 or Microsoft account sign-up link. Let’s explore PC settings in Windows 8.

To go in PC settings interface, move your mouse to bottom-right angle of your screen. Look at bottom and click on “Settings”.

Then on the bottom of the right bar, you can see the text “Change PC settings”. Click on it then you will go to “PC settings” interface.

Click on “Users” on the left bar, you can see a lot of buttons allow you to control your Windows 8 account. As you can see here that I am now using local account.

Now we will try to switch from local account to Microsoft account. There is a button named “Switch to a Microsoft account” near the top. That’s it. Click on it to start progress of creating Microsoft account.

Input your local account password and click “Next” to go.

On “Sign in with a Microsoft account”, you can use your own email or sign up a new Microsoft email for using with Microsoft account. As you want, input your Gmail account into field “Email address” then click “Next”.

Wait a few seconds for Microsoft do processing. After that, input all the necessary information into “Set up a Microsoft account” then click on “Next” button

Then input some security information. Here you should write down on paper these secret information for later use. After inputting information, click “Next” to go next step.

In the “Finish Up” interface, click on any options that you want, then click “Next”.

Then Microsoft will bring you a Captcha form to make sure that you are human. Input what they provide then click “Next”.

That’s finish. As you use your existing email, you have to do verify your email address. Wait some minutes then go to your mailbox. You can see Verify your email address email from Microsoft, open it then click on “Verify email@email.com”

Then you already have an activated Microsoft account. You have to log-off and log-in again with this Microsoft account to enjoy what you have done. You can also use this Microsoft account to access all of Microsoft sites and services.

Let’s clarified these two types of user account in Windows 8 before going deeply into. With Microsoft account, you can use an email address as an account to sign in to Windows. With that account, all of your files, photos, settings and more are synchronized with Microsoft cloud. And when you change to another computer with Windows 8 installed, you can use that account to log into that computer and then all your synchronized content will be in place.

Local account is tradition type of Windows user account from Windows ME. All of your settings, files, photos is store locally, not on the cloud. So that when you change to other computers, you have to do again: create account, log-in, copy your backup files, blah blah blah. For people with security in mind or don’t want to upload all of their information to the Internet, local account still be the best choice.

Because you go from Windows 7 to Windows 8, so let’s try to create Windows 8 user account by following Windows 7 style.

Open the Control Panel by follow the article “How can I access Control Panel in Windows 8“. Like Windows 7, you can see familiar screen with full of options here. Look under “User Accounts and Family Safety”, then click on “Change account types”.

In Windows 8, some options are stored only in PC settings, it really makes you confused when configuring your computer. In the Manage Accounts window, below the box showing all of your accounts, there is one option named “Add new user in PC settings”. Click on it to create your local account.

You can see that there are many options for controlling your user information in PC settings screen. Look at the bottom of the screen, find the option “Add a user” and click on it.

By default, Microsoft assume that you will use Microsoft account. So you can see an input box for you to type in your email address as account to sign in Microsoft cloud. Forget it. Look at bottom, and click on “Sign in without a Microsoft account”. Then click on “Next”.

In the next screen, click on button “Local account” to create your desired local account.

Type in your User name for your Windows 8 local account then click “Next” to follow the wizard of creating user. You can see here that I inputted the name for my new Windows 8 user account is ‘local account’.

Clicking on “Finish”. As you’d expect, there is a local account named ‘local account’ in Other users part of PC settings screen.

And here is our accomplishments

By default, your newly created local account is created without any password. It means that you can log in as that user without inputting any password. It sounds not secure, isn’t it? To set password for your Windows 8 user account, I would make another tutorial on this. Please follow me to catch it up.

You can adjust the column width, row width to fit your printed content on one page as you desired. But if even you did that but nothing follow your mind. Your content still spread on two or even three, four pages. For print all excel sheet columns in one page, we use Scaling feature of Microsoft Excel. This tutorial is based on Microsoft Excel 2013, however, the content can be applied to any version of Excel in similar ways.

Step 1. Go into Print form of Microsoft Excel by clicking on FILE tab in the Ribbon bar.

Step 2. Then do left mouse click on Print in the FILE menu.

Step 3. On the Print form, you can see that our excel sheet spread on three pages. Click on Page Setup.

Step 4. The Page Setup dialog will show up. Click on Page tab and look at Scaling section. There is one option named Fit to… Click to select that option. There are two input box here, first one is fit sheet to page wide and the second one is fit sheet to page tall. Input number ‘1’ into the two input boxes. Then click OK.

Step 5. Back to Print form, the content we want to print is now fitted on just one page. Click Print button to print out your result.

To freeze your two top rows, you can do a simple trick follow these simple steps to freeze top rows:

Step 1. Look at the left edge of Excel window, you can see a column with increasing numbers. This indicates your row number. Move your mouse over the number three and then click left mouse button. This action will select all of the third row.

Step 2. Then, move to the Ribbon bar, try to find the VIEW tab at the right side. Click on VIEW tab of Ribbon Bar to see all the commands in it. Click on button Freeze Panels at the right side of tab VIEW.

Step 3. In the drop-down list box, we have three options to choose. It includes Freeze top row and Freeze First Column for fast action. This is also the frequent action users always do with Excel sheet. The third option is Freeze Panels, that is what you need. Click on that option.

Step 4. After that, you can see a darken line below second row. This indicates that the first two rows are freeze and always on top when you scrolling down.

One of that is providing you a capability to create, edit your document, spreadsheet, presentation online. This application is called Google Docs. Even this kind of application does not have all functionality like Microsoft Office suite, it is simple enough for people to do a simple job like create a simple document. All of your Google Docs will be stored on Google Drive.

Beside of these, Google Docs allow you to view one pdf file content from browser. It’s just view, without editing capability. To do that, you have to convert pdf file into Google document format. Fortunately, Google Drive allows you to convert file online. Whenever you upload file to Google Drive, it ask you whether convert to Google Docs format.

However, in Google Drive interface, you cannot find any button to convert PDF file to Google document. To do that you have to go through function in right-click menu like bellow.

Step 1. Browse to your file in Google Drive. Right click on your file then choose Open With. Then click on Google Docs.

Step 2. Then Google will open a new window indicate the status of conversion.

But if you are the same like me, with Word files come from trusted source that you can believe, how can we stop Word by showing “Protected View” bar. Let’s follow these simple steps to make it.

Step 1. On your Microsoft Word interface, look at the Ribbon bar, you can see a blue button name FILE to the left. Click on it then choose Option.

Step 2. On Word Options window, all the Word options are grouped into items in left panel. Look up and click on Trust Center like the image below.

Step 3. Then, look down to see Microsoft Word Trust Center section in the right panel. In this section, click on Trust Center Settings button on the far right side.

Step 4. In pop-up Trust Center screen, click on Protected View. You will see 3 options for Protected View on the right side of Trust Center window. The first one will show Protected View bar when open Word file from the Internet, like browser, etc.. The second will prevent you editing files that open from un-safe locations like Temporary Internet Files. And the last one will protected view the word files opening from Outlook. Un-tick the third option will solve your problem.

You have to go to VIEW tab to enable it. However, if you’re in Outline View, the Ruler box will be grayed out. So do switch to one of the other views (Print Layout, Web Layout, or Draft) before go through the steps.

Starting with Windows 8 Release Preview, processors on a system must support NX and SSE2 for the system to boot successfully. If your system has the support but the settings are misconfigured, the options will be overridden before kernel boots up the system. Total Commander is also a popular program. Total Commander allows you to control your files and folders like NC for DOS. It means you file browsers is separate into two panels. By default, it does not display TortoiseSVN overlay icons for files and folders. But you can easily turn this option on by following below steps. This tutorial is done with Total Commander version 7.57.

Step 1. In your Total Commander windows, click on Configuration on menu bar and then choose Options…

Step 2. In the Configuration screen, click on Icons then click on checkbox near Show overlay icons, e.g. for links to check it.

SOLUTION 2. You can turn it off on language-by-language basis. That way if it’s annoying you because you’re bilingual and you don’t need it to help you with Spanish, you can turn that off. Then Xmarks will do synchronize bookmarks between Chrome and Firefox, making the two browser’s bookmarks in synchronization.

HOWEVER, as a common sense, make sure to turn off bookmarks sync in both Chrome & Firefox on all machines prior to using Xmarks. It is truly a nightmare when all bookmarks sync service are fighting, duplicating exponentially bookmarks across computers.

2. You are using the In line with text option but the Picture Placeholders option is turned on.

FOR Reason 1. You are not using In line with text option.

1.1 Change your view into Print Layout to see if your picture displays or not.

Step 1. Go to View tab, and then click on Print Layout.

1.2 Turn on the “Show drawings and text boxes on screen” option

Step 1.  Click File, and then click Options.

Step 2. Click Advanced. Under Show document content, checked the Show drawings and text boxes on screen check box. Click OK.

1.3 Turn on the “Print drawings created in Word” option

Step 1.  Click File, and then click Options.

Step 2. Click Display. Under Printing options, checked the Print drawings created in Word check box. Click OK.

1.4 Turn off the “Use draft quality” option
Step 1.  Click File, and then click Options.

Step 2. Click Advanced. Under Print, click to clear the Use draft quality check box. Click OK.

FOR Reason 2. You are using In line with text option. You can show up your pictures again by Turn off the “Picture Placeholders” option.

Step 1.  Click File, and then click Options.

Step 2. Click Advanced. Under Display document content, click to clear the Picture Placeholders check box. Click OK.

Then your pictures will show up to you.

Fortunately, Microsoft realizes that this may cause some problems for customers still rely on 32-bit .hlp files. Therefore, they are making WinHlp32.exe available as a download from the Microsoft Download Center.

Step 1.Using this link to download: http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=91. You will be presented 2 versions for downloading: 32-bit and 64-bit. However, from Microsoft Windows Vista and now Windows 7, Microsoft has changed the configuration screen. It no longer is Properties in Desktop pop-up menu. We have to go through some screens like below to do it.

Step 3. In the Personalization window, click on Window Color near the bottom of the window.

Step 4. In the window Windows Color and Appearance, click on the link Advanced appearance settings… Then your final setting window will come up.

Step 5. In the Windows Color and Appearance dialog, click drop-down list below Item and choose Icon. 

Then you can choose your font and size of your font. Click OK to see the result at your desktop.

• Show up on Quick Access toolbar. This is the simplest way.
• Show up on Ribbon tab bar. Follow this way then you have to come back to the modified tab bar every time you need to use the Open File button.

So that let use the former. The easy step is:

Step 1. On the Microsoft Office screen, click on the drop-down button to show up the menu.

Step 2. Click on the Open in the pop-up menu.

Then you can see the Open File button showed up on your Quick Access toolbar.

SOLUTION 1: To put Google Drive on Windows 7 Start Menu, you can easily using function call ‘Pin to Start Menu’ of Windows 7. Let me explain you in simple steps:

Step 1. Go to your Desktop or anywhere that stores your Google Drive icon. Click left mouse on it and move it to your Start Menu icon.

Step 2. Wait a few seconds then you will see a pop-up menu name Pin to Start Menu. Just click on it.

After that, you will see your Google Drive on your Start Menu. Just re-arrange it to your desire position in the list.

SOLUTION 2: You can also add it to the Start Menu’s right side items, where Computer, Documents, Pictures, and so forth. To do that, you have to use a little trick on Windows’ Start Menu.

Step 1. Right click on empty area in Windows’ taskbar then choose Properties.

Step 2. On the Taskbar and Start Menu Properties window, click on Start Menu tab and then click on Customize button.

Step 3. On the Customize Start Menu window, you can see a list of items will be displayed on your Start Menu. You cannot add item to this list, but you can use an inactive item for your purpose. For example, here I choose Recorded TV item. Then click on the radio button before Display as a link to choose it. Then click OK on both Customize Start Menu window and Taskbar and Start Menu Properties window.

Step 4. Open your Start Menu, you will see a link name Recorded TV. Right-click on this link, choose Rename, and then change to Google Drive.

Step 5.Right-click on the new link, i.e. Google Drive. Choose Properties.

Step 6. On Google Drive Properties window, choose tab Library, then click on Include a folder to include your real Google Drive folder. After that, choose the line Public Recorded TV (…) then click Remove. After all, click on OK so that all your settings will be applied in system.

As we know, from Outlook 2007, Microsoft has changed their toolbar into ribbon. This kind of interface makes users trouble to get familiar with it in compare to traditional toolbar. But don’t worry, we will do our job step by step. Usually, Windows programs provide users all options in the Option menu. But strangely, in Microsoft Outlook, you cannot find any options from Outlook Options to change font size of email list. You can only do change font size of your email list through the tab named View in Outlook.

Then what should we have to do now!!!

Step 1: You should go into your Email list in Outlook. Then look at the ribbon bar, the fourth tab to the right, named View. That’s it. Click on it to see all the commands related to viewing option of Outlook. Then click on View Settings button.

Step 2: Then the Advanced View Settings pop-up window will show up. There we can change settings for view from Columns, Group By criteria, … to others. Click on Other Settings button.

Step 3: At the top left corner of Other Settings window, there are two buttons right in front of your eyes: Column Font and Row Font. Column Font allow you to change font size and name for heading column of your email list. And the Row Font is about font properties for each row in email list. That’s is what we need here. Click on Row Font button to choose the desired font name and change font size to the size that you want.

Then you can have the big font-size email list.

The simplest way to make a filter is using Auto Filter function of Excel. Below is an example in Excel 2010, you can find similar way in 2007 and 2012.

Step 1. Choose the data range that you want to filter. In the ribbon tab Data, click Filter in the Sort & Filter group

Step 2. Click the arrow   in the row header to choose the filter criteria.

This is the most frequently usage of Excel filter. In order to make many filters in same sheet, for ex, we need to make filters for 2 tables.

1. Choose the data range of the first table, then in the tab Insert, click on Table
2. Do the same thing for second table

In order to remove filters, click anywhere in the table that you’ve created filter. In the Design tab, click on Convert to range.

This is so excited because as a Facebook-mania, every day I have to see blue-bar across my browser. If I focused on work and forgot to come back the browser, I would lose my friends’ chatting flow. This blue bar some time make me in troubles because everyone in my office are familiar with this .

For the functions, Facebook Messenger for Windows brings you chats and ticker feed interface to your Windows 7. With the notification functions, you still get updates from your friends without browser opened.

It sounds very interesting but right now, the application is still on beta phase and is provided to limited number of people to test. I also want to try but cannot find the ways to download and install that application.

For the old interface of Facebook, it is damn easy to invite friends or others to join Facebook as long as you have their emails. The procedure to do that is detailed very clearly from AskDaveTaylor.

For the new interface, you can never find out an option to invite others anymore. Maybe Facebook has become a famous top social network and they think everyone knows them. So why have to leave a redundant space for invitation links. It’s just my bad thinking.

Log in to Facebook first. And then your browser’s address bar, please type exactly the same as https://www.facebook.com/invite.php . Then you can see the lost inviting interface.

From here, you can invite friends by just input their emails list, and then type a message. I recommend you to put a message, especially with your new friends. After that, click Invite button then everything goes well.

If you trust Facebook, you can let Facebook login and get all your contact to send invitation. Look at the right side of the page, you can see the text Invite Friends You Email. Click on the link. Let’s choose Skype as an example.

After you input your username and password, click on Find Friends.

A dialog box will appears that tell you how many of your friends which do not join Facebook and do you want to invite them all or just some of them. After make a decision, click on Invite to Join button to invite.

Fortunately, Facebook provide a Notification setting page with nearly 80 options for you to turn on/off  and then make your email inbox cleaner. To turn off email notifications from Facebook account, you have 2 ways:

1. Change follow Case-by-case OR
2. Change by browsing through Facebook options

Firstly, choose Account Settings from the top bar menu (near the top right) of your Facebook page.

Choose page Notification

On the Notification page, you will see the 2 parts: Recent Notifications and All Notifications.

To change follow case-by-case, just look into Recent Notifications part, there are recent notifications sent to you. You can stop type of notification email by click on the envelop icon at the right side.

To change through Facebook options, just go to All Notifications part and click Edit at the right side of each notification group.

Facebook will show up all types of notification belong to chosen notification group. Just untick on the checkbox at the right side of notification type that you don’t want and then click Save Changes.

Then you will not see that type of notifications email from Facebook in your email inbox anymore.

For my case, I like the 1^st way (Change follow Case-by-case) because it looks like training mode and I don’t have to waste time to browse through over 70 notification options of Facebook. Be smart .

With Windows 7, you have a free solution to turn your laptop or desktop pc with wireless networks card into a WiFi hotspot. This is Connectify (you can download this software from http://www.connectify.me/download/). I used it a lot to make a WiFi hotspot so my Blackberry can connect to the Internet.

The installation is a very simple process. Just double click on the downloaded file then click Next until the process done. After that, reboot your computer for the driver that Connectify installed can be finally active on your laptop.

After reboot, Connectify will show up the Welcome screen. You can choose Free Version or enter License Key for PRO version. Free version is enough for me.

Let’s assume that your laptop connects to the Internet through Local Area Network adapter and your wireless adapter is Wireless Network Connection.

Let’s do some simple settings in Connectify window:

1. Set your Hotspot Name

2. Set your Password for this hotspot. For access point mode, Connectify set the security mode is WPA2-PSK

3. Set the Internet connection to Local Area Network

4. Then click Start Hotspot.

Wait for Connectify setting up and then you have an active access point to use.

Now, on your girlfriend’s laptop, do as you connect to a normal hotspot. You can see your Connectify hotspot in your wireless network list.

Choose that network, click Connect and then input your defined password. Wait for a minute and then you can see that you connected to Connectify hotspot.

On Connectify screen, you can see your girlfriend’s laptop showed up with the allocated IP address in Clients list.

You can now access the Internet from your girlfriend’s laptop or explore other Connectify options .

You can control the view of the Facebook News Feed by 3 ways:

1. Filter by friend lists

You can filter the News Feed by friend list. To do that, you have to make a list of friends who you actually care. Then on the left side of your Facebook homepage, click the list to view only stories by people on the list you’ve selected. For example, here I select Family list to see updates from them.

2. Hide a person or a story type (e.g. a quiz)
Click the drop-down menu  that appears when you hover over the top right corner of a story you want to remove from your stream. Then, select an option from the drop-down menu:

• “Hide story” will remove the individual story

• The “Unsubscribe from” links will remove the post and prevent all future stories from a person, Page, group, event or app

• “Report story or spam” will remove the post and help keep your News Feed clear of similar stories in the future

3. Unhide stories from a person, Page, group, event or app

From your home page, hover your mouse to the left of the left side (or right of the right side) of News Feed menu. Then select Edit

A list of people, apps, Pages, and groups you’ve hidden or unsubscribed from will appear in a pop-up box. Click the X next to each one you’d like to remove from this list. Removing someone or something from your list of hidden stories means those stories can appear in your News Feed again.

Click Save.

Now you can customize your Facebook News Feed as you desire.

When using Microsoft Excel 2007 as normal, the default view layout is Normal. In this view, you cannot see the header and footer of your excel file. To view the header and footer of the excel file, choose View menu from Excel ribbon toolbar, then click on Page Layout.

Then you can see the header and footer parts of the file.

To insert pictures into the header, click on header’s area, then click on Picture on Design tab.

Choose your file and then click Insert.

Click to Header outside area, you can see the picture in your file’s Header like below.

And, you can do with the Footer like the way I do with the Header.

In my case, I like ‘one tab one process’ functionality of Chrome. I can still surf the internet even one tab in Chome got freeze. Firefox does not have this feature, it has only one Windows process for all. If one tab freezes then Firefox freezes. However, Firefox still have many things over Chrome that bloggers and developers like it as Firebug, SEO tools, …

Actually, when you install Chrome, it will ask you to import data from other browsers like Firefox and IE. But if you forget to do that, you still can do it again through easy steps.

Firstly, click on the wrench icon near the top right of Chrome. Then choose Option.

Option page will come out. Click on Personal Stuff then click on Import data from another browser button.

As Import Bookmarks and Settings dialog appears, choose Mozilla Firefox. Choose types of data that you want to import like Browsing history, Bookmarks, Passwords and then click Import button.

After Chrome doing successful, you will see that dialog box. It means that all data you want is in Chrome.

First trick: To open other excel file in a separate window, you can do a normal trick as below even though it is so manual.

1. Double-click on Microsoft Excel shortcut to open a new instance of Microsoft Excel.

2. In new instance window, choose to Open and then select your desired file.

Then you will have two separate Excel windows .

Second trick: After several times doing that manually job, I got tired and then tried to find other solutions. Then I found out a free software called Excel Instance Launcher. This program will add one row in context-menu every time you do the right click on Excel files. It supports every version of Microsoft Excel on three platforms: Microsoft Windows XP, Microsoft Windows Vista and Microsoft Windows 7.

1. You go to the program’s website (http://www.bitterminion.com/excel-instance-launcher/) and then download the file.

2. Open downloaded file to install it onto your computer.

3. Just do the right click on the second excel file, choose Open In New Instance.

Then you have same results like the 1^st trick.
