Can I try to turn a job interview into freelance work?

I have an interview for a design job at a publisher next week and I'm not totally sure I want the job, but I would love to do some freelance work for them. I had an unsuccessful interview at another publisher last year, and they gave me some freelance typesetting work a few months later because they remembered my portfolio. Would it come across as unprofessional if I tried to pitch myself as a freelancer during this interview? If not, what would be the best way to do that?

Question for those who've dealt with low ferritin

Currently have a ferritin of 9, though my other numbers are okay. Symptoms are mostly cognitive/mental along with some restless legs and tiredness that's up and down. I started supplementing, but am having a hard time knowing if it's best to supplement daily or every other day to get the fastest relief.

I'm finding conflicting info online -- some experts saying every other day is better because of the hepcidin that impedes daily absorption, but one study that seemed to say that daily actually is better. Wondering if anyone can vouch from their personal experience. Thanks.

help me decide between staying in current job or not

I have an opportunity at another team in the same organization.

I am having trouble making the decision. I have had so many changes in the past 10 years that part of me just wants to coast from here on out. I don't know if that is psychologically healthy for me, as a semi-perfectionist, though. I feel I am getting dumber but also happier as the months wear on.

My main reason for considering leaving is what I feel is a personality incompatibility between me and my boss. TL;DR She has mental health issues that remind me of my mother. As a child of a single parent household (my father died when I was young), I had to rely on my one parent for everything, but when your primary caregiver has a severe anxiety disorder, you learn to feel like you can't count on anyone. that has been the story of my life and why I am so independent and hyper competent. This situation with my boss reminds me of the fear, powerlessness and pressure I felt all throughout life where I have to compensate for the incompetence of an authority figure. I am saying all this as psychological analysis, not making any moral comments here. And yes I have been in therapy for this, but the fact is, it's a very uncomfortable position to be in.

Current job pros:
- Been there almost 4 years and very comfortable with the routines.
- I love my coworkers and it is a really fun team where some people have been there for 20 + years and some people are in their 20s, but everyone has a very young spirit and I love the intergenerational aspect of it.
- It is very slack and lenient for most of the time, with periods of intensity
- Because of my boss's issues (see other question) I am never under the gun for anything. I am naturally a diligent and intensely focused employee, apart from completing all my work I can behave in whatever way I want ( work from home, show up late, etc).

Current job cons:
- Key strategic disadvantage is that my director always wants us to work with an external agency to share the work. That agency has been taking more and more of the work for other teams, except for me because I upskilled and am now managing half the project. That was not my choice but what I was assigned to do, and I am now further ahead technically than anyone else on the team, but because it's a marketing team run by Comms specialists, they do not really value the technical stuff and are very much focused on the images because they don't understand what I do.
- I cannot move up in my current position because the team is stacked with too many strategists, and I was also upskilled into a niche which I only have 4 years experience in, so I am not eligible for any promotions for a few years. I did not know this when I took on the position. However as a generalist I have 15 years of experience and could be easily promoted.

- My boss is kind of a nightmare. Constantly anxiety spiraling, using meetings as personal venting sessions, telling me things that managers should never say, wasting a lot of time on rumination, seemingly holding grudges based on events that happened 4 or 5 years ago, constantly going on sick leave, interrupting everyone all the time. It is especially uncomfortable for me because I was hired to do the job she used to have , which seems to be the source of all of her resentment/ trauma. I have been told (by herself) that she is neurodivergent but I don't know what I am supposed to do about that. The other managers have known her for several years and for some reason promoted her, but they know what they are up against with her and she often gets admonished in meetings which is super uncomfortable for everyone.
- I like my work but it is the same exact thing every year and now it's been 3 years I am getting a bit bored.
- I sometimes feel I am working in a zoo. Everyone does whatever they wants, thankfully everyone is nice but the environment is friendly chaos which sometimes gets me really worked up because I'm fairly focused and serious. Other times I am grateful to have a social workplace where I can chat with coworkers all throughout the day, but I have this feeling of increasing intellectual leniency encroaching on my life. That could be work or middle age, but either way it scares me.

New job potential pros:
- I have heard good things about the managers' personalities, and that it is a positive environment.
- It would be a promotion, on another team which is under construction, but run by people who know what they're doing.
- It is a senior strategist position ( I am currently a strategist but not a senior one) meaning perhaps it would be a better use of my highly analytical mind.

New job cons:
- It would be in a more professional-feeling setting. It is still unionized but I feel it would be far less lenient than my current setup. I am ambivalent towards leniency; in general I prefer a structured environment but I do worry about the adjustment it would require. Since the pandemic everything has been very lax but I feel that period of time is ending.
- I don't know what the potential for burnout would be as this position seems somewhat more prestigious and therefore may have higher pressure attached.
- I am interviewing for one of 3 potential jobs and I won't get to choose which one I get. I have very little information about the actual day to day.
- the whole ''devil you know is better than the devil you don't'' aspect

Financially and career wise, I feel somewhat satisfied with where I`m at, however I still have 20 years of work ahead of me, so I feel it's somewhat too soon to rest on my laurels
Any reflections and advice are welcome. Especially wondering, would a marketing senior strategist (as opposed to a junior strategist) be more likely to be focused on using the analytical and strategic aspects of their professional capabilities, rather than the personality flex ones? I am definitely an introvert in the workplace and prefer to work on ideas and projects rather than motivating teams or doing group work. I love collaborating too, as long as my actual work process involves me strategizing inside my own head and thinking and writing. I am highly immune to peer pressure to the point that I often stick out unintentionally, not in a bad way necessarily, but just in the way that I am not super skilled at concealing my true personality in the workplace. so if the job turns out to be very political or image-focused, it would definitely not be a fit for me. Any tips on how to determine that within the interview?

Very controversial technologies, pre-AI?

Has there ever been any technologies that has been more controversial than AI?

I'm not old but I'm not a spring chicken either.
Should I get yet another Samsung Chromebook?

My 2022 Chromebook abruptly died last night and cannot be resuscitated. I loved that it was light, had a nice screen and long battery life, and wasn't so expensive that I felt guilty balancing it precariously on the couch. Ideally I would get something that was durable enough to last longer than 4 years (this was my second, the first lasted about that long too). Budget is up to $500. I will just use this for streaming video, google docs, web stuff. No actual computing.
