Last June I Sent An E-Mail Urging The Music Community To Become More Engaged In The Fight Against Online Theft. The Result -- Over 16,000 E-Mails Imploring Congress To Pass Aggressive Laws To Combat Piracy.

It looks like Washington heard our call. A bipartisan group of Senators has introduced legislation that would give the Justice Department an expedited process for cracking down on rogue websites that are dedicated to making unauthorized copies of music available to internet users around the world. The Justice Department would target the most egregious pirate websites, go to a federal court with the evidence, and then seize the domain name. Once a site has been seized, the Court would issue an order to intermediaries -- such as ISPs, payment processors, Internet registries and registrars, advertisers, etc. -- prohibiting them from doing business with such rogue sites.

CNET called S. 3804, “one of the most ambitious attempts yet from the U.S. government to fight online piracy” and observed that “if the bill passes, it could mark the most significant anti-piracy victory for the film and music industries in quite a while.”

Each and every one of us needs to act NOW if we expect the legislation to gain momentum. Our community has never matched the noise created by those on the “copyleft” – we need to be louder than ever to drown out those who don’t care about our art, our jobs and the difference between right and wrong.

Norwalk Oyster Festival this weekend!

Please note that Ask Your Mom will be playing at the Norwalk Oyster Festival on Saturday at 6:00 PM (not 6:30). Please take this into account when making travel plans.

We are playing naturally in the Heineken tent which should make for some refreshing tunes! The weather is expected to be as spectacular as this past weekend so wear your shades and your sunblock.

After a blistering set at the 2007 event, the organizers have asked AYM to return to the stage in the style of triumphant, conquering heroes. Or something like that - the contract had beer spilled on it.

Ask Your Mom will be playing in the Regional tent (as opposed to the Puppet Show tent) at 6:30 PM on Saturday September 11. More information to come as they fax it to us.

Snow? What snow?

We think the weather hysteria is just that: hysteria. If it snows – it snows. You people live in the New York area...you can handle anything. Pack an extra pair of gloves and if you wear boots make sure you bring your dancing shoes to Route 22.

It is going to be crowded so get there as early as you can. We start at around 9 PM but if you want any hope of getting something to eat, make a reservation (914.765.0022) for 7:00 or 8:00 or you're gonna wait...

Westchester Magazine has voted Ask Your Mom as the "Favorite Parent Band" in their Best of Westchester 2009 issue. The piece (with a picture!) on Ask Your Mom can be found on page 100 in the July issue which is on newsstands now.

Happy New Year from Ask Your Mom!

As a wrap up of 2008, we'd like to highlight a few events:

January 31: we played at NorthStar in Pound Ridge, NY and got a ton of people out despite the rain

May 15: NorthStar again! What is it with these people? Do you think they keep asking us back because they like us or because our fans drink like fish?

September 6: despite our best efforts to the contrary, the Saturday portion of the 2008 Norwalk Oyster Festival is rained out by Hurricane Hanna. We soldier on an play a private show for our wives and kids in our rehearsal studio. Matt Brotmann also joined the band at this point and we are glad to have him on board.

November 1: we weren't concerned with it being All Saints Day and neither were the people that came to see us at Vintage in White Plains with Space Cabbage - what is turning out to be a yearly ritual.

December 4: final show of the year at - you guessed it - NorthStar! Ladies night is certainly good to us.

Website update. I (Rob) am in the midst of adding a number of new things to the Ask Your Mom website. I hope to have some of the pages up today if not tomorrow. I hope everyone has been to Facebook and seen the Ask Your Mom page there. I posted three songs to the player: 2 from the NorthStar show in May and 1 from a demo session we recorded last year.

If anyone happens to have photos taken at shows - feel free to post them to the Facebook page or send them to me via email.

Ask Your Mom is back at Vintage November 1!

Space Cabbage is once again allowing us to share the stage with them for their annual Halloween gig. This is the third annual show we have played with these guys - not quite sure why they keep asking us back. The first year we played with them at Lucy's in Pleasantville and last year we were with them at Vintage.

If you have not been to Vintage Bar - it is a great place on Main Street in White Plains. A word of warning: last year it got very crowded very quickly. Ask Your Mom goes on at 8:30 so we suggest getting there by 8:00 and getting your groove on. This year is an 80s theme so get out your spandex and skinny ties and do the white girl dance.

Weather Update

According to the Seaport folks who organize the Norwalk Oyster Festival, the show must go on until someone says otherwise.

Long story short: at this point (almost 1 PM EST on Friday) we are still scheduled to go on at 6 PM tomorrow. We are playing in a huge tent with sides that has been up for at least a day or two so the ground won't be terribly wet. If the organizers cancel our time slot or reschedule us (not likely) we will send a note to everyone via Constant Contact.

If you have any information or suggestions for alternative venues, please feel free to contact us.

Hey Everybody!!

Ask Your Mom is playing Saturday at Norwalk Oyster Festival again! The event takes place under a big tent (we are in the Harp Tent) so bring your dancing galoshes because it looks like rain. We are playing rain or shine and only lightning or thunder will stop the show.

Come check out Derek's sweet new guitar and meet Matt Brotmann who is kind enough to grace the stage with us on Saturday.

Ask Your Mom's (mostly) triumphant return to Norwalk Oyster Festival September 6!

Thanks to our good friend and drummer John Trumpbour, we are playing the NOF again this year. A better time slot and hopefully cooler weather. The Farmer's Almanac predicts a cool and wet September so it is a good thing we are playing in a tent.

Our time slot is 6 PM on Saturday - a couple hours before headliners the Oak Ridge Boys take the main stage. No, we will (probably) not be playing "Elvira" despite Azzy's efforts to the contrary. So bring your family and your dancing shoes/boots to Norwalk, CT. We'll be in the Harp tent.

We are trying to grow our mailing list so if you know folks that might be interested in Ask Your Mom, send them to the site.

Greetings Ask Your Mom fans! The band will be appearing at North Star in Pound Ridge, NY on Thursday May 15 at 9 PM. We have played this venue several times and it is starting to feel like home - which is nice. North Star is pretty small so we suggest getting there early for dinner and staying for the show. The food is great and they serve Captain Lawrence beer among other drafts.
