Adobe Releases Flash Player 10.1 And AIR 2.0 – Both Include Multi-touch Support

A mere week after Adobe Systems reported that it would be shedding nearly 700 employees or 9% of its total worldwide workforce , the company is releasing two highly anticipated new products that have been in the works for a while: Flash Player 10.1 and AIR 2.0 . Both of the products are being released with a ‘beta’ label at the same time for all 3 major operating systems (Windows, Mac and Linux) and x86-based netbooks, and are available now via Adobe Labs .

NVIDIA Tesla 20-series GPUs promise to dramatically cut supercomputing costs

Sure, you’ve been hearing NVIDIA toss around names like CUDA , Fermi and Tesla for what seems like ages now, but we’re guessing this is the sort of thing that’ll get most folks to really take notice: a promise to cut supercomputing costs by a factor of ten. That rather impressive feat comes courtesy of the company’s new Tesla 20-series GPUs, which come in the form of both single GPU PCI-Express Gen-2 cards and full-fledged GPU computing systems, and promise a whole host of cost-saving benefits for everything from ray tracing to 3D cloud computing to data analytics. Of course we are still talking about “cheap” in supercomputing terms — look for these to run between $2,499 and $18,995 when they roll out sometime in the second quarter of 2010.

Sure, Verizon’s doubled down on the 3G map ads in response to AT&T’s false advertising lawsuit , but eventually the company’s lawyers had to file a response and, well, ain’t nobody backing down in this one. Here’s the freaking introduction : AT&T did not file this lawsuit because Verizon’s “There’s A Map For That” advertisements are untrue; AT&T sued because Verizon’s ads are true and the truth hurts.

Okay, pretend to be surprised if you want, but Facebook and PlayStation 3 are coming together, sort of. We saw the tiniest bit of teaser last week via leaked photo, and now we’ve got details and a release date. Users will have the option of sending status updates for PSN purchases and Trophies whenever the user syncs up the account to the PlayStation servers, and developers can now integrate automatic updates when certain game events occur, similar to what we saw with the recent Uncharted sequel.

RockYou Raises A Whopper – $50 Million In Venture Capital

Social Network application developer and advertising platform RockYou has raised a whopping $50 million in a Series D round of financing from existing investor Softbank , we’ve confirmed with the company. RockYou, which launched in November 2005, has now raised $119 million in capital and has revenues rumored in the $30 million to $40 million/year range

The New Oxford English Dictionary has announced that 2009’s Word of the Year is unfriend . While it is perhaps not used as broadly as the newly-verbed friend , the latter is already in the dictionary, so they can’t very well call it new. The best they can do is run with unfriend, which implies and extends the other.
