This week I...

- saw The Great Gatsby in 3D on Sunday with my good friend Meghan. SO good. I want to see it again and buy it on DVD already. I MEAN!! The costumes and vivid sets are just stunning!

- was feeling a bit down on Monday. Writing this article definitely helped me feel a little better.

- am happy about my new layout. It's clean, with a cute, yet non-distracting header image, and speaks to my overall aesthetic I think.

- was so excited to see Elle & Blair's new "Wild and Free" nail polish set! The colors are so pretty and bright for Summer. See them on Blair here.

- got reeeeally giddy to watch the Backstreet Boys on Good Morning America, AND to find out the new album goes on sale July 30 and they're are going on tour. Yours truly will be buying tickets. No shame in my game. I still love this group!!

- super hyped that Candice won American Idol. Her voice is golden, and that duet with JHud! A. ma. ZING!!

- am coveting items from C. Wonder, like this tote bag with the bold center stripe!

Being tall it's sometimes difficult to find shorts that fit. The whole riding up, too short or too long length are all typical problems I face in the dressing room. Blah. I've actually purchased two pairs of Old Navy's 5" shorts and they are SO comfortable! They come in several different colors which will be great to mix and match for different outfits this summer. I'm also loving the leather shorts as it's a great way to incorporate the leather trend in the summer without sweating your face off. HA! :) Any great shorts styles that you've found recently?

Working current trends into to a work wardrobe can sometimes be tricky. You don't want to look like you're headed to the mall or hanging with friends, but you still want to look stylish! When mixing prints, I find it looks classy and professional if there are at least two main colors. Here I worked with black and white, and added a pop of mint with my handbag to bring out the one of the colors in the skirt.

Also, you may have noticed things got a little refreshed on the blog! The template is from Ashley, and the other elements like the header and side bar navigation I designed myself. :) Hope you like the fresh look!

I know Mother's Day is over and all, but I spent the entire weekend with a heavy heart. I thought long and hard before I decided to publish this. I normally keep things light and fun around here, but what the hell is the point of a personal blog if it's all fluff? Seeing everyone's posts (Facebook, Instagram, etc.) of them hanging out with their mom's over the weekend just made me think of mine. So what does one do? Write.

You see, my Mama passed away one month shy of my 13th birthday. She was my best friend, role model, and my everything. Sometimes it's hard to think about her because it makes me sad. Everyone says, "don't be sad, think of the memories". That is difficult at times and I do try, but the last memory I have of her is a very poignant one that is etched in my brain eternally, so instead I watch home videos or look at pictures. Which I guess is the same thing.

My mama was a strong woman. She endured a lot, but had a lot of faith and perserverance. Last Thursday I shared what other bloggers learned from their moms. What did I learn from mine? She taught me that family is always first, to work hard, and that "pretty is as pretty does". She's also the reason I grew to love fashion and writing. My grandma and I chuckle when we reminisce about her overflowing closet of clothes, shoes, and HANDBAGS. Boy, did she love her handbags! :)

She put her all into everything she did. Whether it was for herself, (she won Teacher of the Year out of the entire school district the year before she passed), for me (PTA member, volunteering at my dance studio, making costumes, etc.), for her family, talking to others about the Bible, or for her students. She never let anyone down, and was giving and caring.

So I guess I just wanted to reflect and share my memories of the beautiful spirit and wonderful person that I hold so close in my heart. My mama.

Happy Friday! I was attacked by pollen/mold/grass/dust/whateverelseisintheair (aka allergies) last night, so this post is going to be short and sweet unfortunately. Argh! These allergies are no joke. This weekend I plan on seeing The Great Gatsby in 3D on Saturday afternooon, and finally making that banana bread I said I've been wanting! Sometimes I get a taste for something and I just can't. let. it. go. Also, I'm working on a new layout for the blog...crossing fingers it'll be up by Monday!

I'm at it again y'all. Decorating that is. The one place that is not decorated in my apartment is my little patio area. I've been in my apartment three years, and every Summer I tell myself I'm going to decorate out there, but I never get around to it. This year I've already found some chairs, throw pillows, and string lights, and I've got a plan to do it! I'm going to go with gray or white chairs, with bright colored pillows. Hey everyone, hope you had a great weekend and a fun Cinco de Mayo! Friday night H and I went to see Iron Man 3 and ate at Razzoo's in Downtown Fort Worth. It was a beautiful, warm evening so I felt it was appropriate that I don some Spring hues. He didn't quite understand all the different colors I had going on, but said he figured I knew what I was doing since I "knew fashion". Ha! The blouse I'm wearing is from NYDJ. I love the two-toned detail (it's black on the back), and loose fit, and was my favorite piece from their Spring collection. I'll be mixing and matching this top with skirts, prints, denim, and other bright color pants this upcoming season!

Hey everyone! Hope you had a great week! Anyone catch Scandal last night? Of course you did! SO good...WHO is the mole?? Ah! I can't wait until next week. Also, so happy my favorites made it to the Top 3 on Idol!! Man, I really can't tell who is going to win.

This week I...

Ran 3 or 4 miles (outside! not on treadmill) three days out of the week. So proud of myself! Y'all don't understand...I am NOT a runner. I avoid running like a nasty virus. I mean, I admire those people who can run or jog for miles and are all strong and athletic and ish. Buuuut between breaking out in hives, being chased by dogs, or just running out of breath, I've often chosen every other form of cardio there was to avoid running. Anyway, I feel good and that I can keep it up. Wish me luck, please! :)

RECIPE: EASY EGG BREAKFAST

I love searching Pinterest for new recipes to try, and that is exactly where I found this easy egg recipe. I followed this recipe for spinach egg cups, but used onions instead of mushrooms.

Ingredients:

1 onion

1 handful of organic spinach

1/4 cup of reduced fat Mexican blend shredded cheese

8 eggs

olive oil, salt, pepper, paprika seasoning

Directions:

Heat oven to 375 degrees. Whip eggs in a bowl and place to the side. Sautee the onions in a separate skillet until soft and opaque, and then add to the egg mixture. Pour some of the mixture into the muffin pan, and top each with the spinach and cheese. Pour remaining egg mixture on top of each muffin. Let cook for about 23-25 minutes.

Let cool, and enjoy with toast and your favorite juice or hot tea!

This week's round up of current "wants" is inspired by the upcoming Cinco de Mayo holiday (also this week's DWTS)! Yay! May 5th isn't until Sunday, but I can't resist thinking of bright colored fashion, warm tortilla chips, hot salsa, and a cold margarita! I don't know about y'all, but I had a pair of huaraches back in kindergarten and they were my favorite pair of sandals. 90's child, yes. This pair from Forever 21 reminds me of my old sandals, and I love the hot orange color and studded accents on them. I also spotted the pom pom trimmed scarf the other day, but didn't pick it up. I may go back and grab it as it will look so cute with a simple white tee, or with a bright colored maxi dress!

I rounded up my Spring beauty favorites to share with you all today. Why? Honestly, I absolutely LOVE each product and want to talk about them and maybe you'll find something you might like too! :) So, here goes...

1. c. Booth Honey & Almond Hand Cream - Y'ALL! This hand cream is everything! My hands can get pretty dry and I'd been on the search for something that had a thick consistency, but also smelled good. I was in ULTA last weekend and decided to try it. Boy oh boy am I glad I did!

2. Eau Thermale Avene Eluage c/o - This is an eye contour cream that helps with wrinkles, puffiness, and dark circles. For some reason, I've always struggled with puffy under eyes. I don't know, just have. I use this on my eyelids and under eyes both morning and night. It's seemed to help diminish those pesky pockets a little bit.

3. YesTo Blueberries Age Refresh Intensive Skin Repair Serum c/o - I use this both morning and night under my moisturizer. It makes mah skin glooow!

4. Simple Revitalizing Eye Roll-On - AGAIN, told y'all I've got bags under my eyes. Eh. I roll on this goodness under my eyes EVERY morning. I call it my "coffee for my eyes". It's cooling and actually feels like it wakes up my eyes. Ha!

5. One 'n Only Argan Oil Dry Scalp Treatment - Yep, pretty much self explanatory. If you suffer with dry scalp every now and then I recommend you try this. You section your hair, apply, then rinse and wash your hair...and voila! No more itchy scalp!

6. Garnier Fructis Style Sleek & Shine Flat Iron Perfector Straightening Mist - This is great and easy to use. Spritz on your strands, hit it with the flat iron one time and you've got just what it says it'll do. Sleek and shiiiine!

7. Clarisonic Mia 2 (in the new Passionfruit color) - ok, THIS has given me life! I'd been debating for a while on whether or not to shell out the $150 for it, and I finally caved in after everyone (lady at the MAC counter, my aesthetician, several other bloggers, etc., etc.) kept raving about it. My skin is oily in the t-zone, I get breakouts, clogged pores, and blah dee blah dee blah. I was fedup.com! I've only been using it for a week (I use the sensitive skin brush) and I've already seen a difference. Definitely worth the investment if you're debating on buying it too.

8. No7 Beautiful Skin Purifying Exfoliator Normal/Oily - I use this about a couple of times a week. It gives my skin a nice glow, and makes it feel clean and smooth.

9 & 10. Pond's Luminous Clean Cream Cleanser and Luminous Moisture Day Lotion w/SPF 15 - I've tried a LOT of different cleansers and moisturizers and these are probably my most favorite. My skin gets clean and bright, and they're not expensive at all.

11. ULTA Beauty Smooth Sugar Scrub in Berrylicious - ahh, this smells like fresh fruit! It's an all over body exfoliator and it just smells so delicious and leaves my skin feeling silky smooth!

12. OPI "You're Such a Budapest" nail color - This soft lavender nail polish color is so pretty and perfect for Spring. It's been in regular rotation on my nails!

The weather was so nice this weekend that I decided to throw on a pretty dress. I'm trying to get more into prints, and so I went back and forth in between whether or not to buy this. Hello all! This week felt really long for some reason. Happy weekend!! Whoo, it's been along time since one of these posts! This week has definitely been a tough one. First the Boston marathon bombing, and then the fertilizer plant explosion in West, TX. Just left me with a heavy, heavy heart. I did find a place to donate yesterday, and I was just so happy and grateful to be able to help out.

This weekend my friend and I are going to the Main Street Arts Fest, and I'm SO excited to indulge in some good food, art, and music! I can't wait to be outside and enjoy the event. I love this time of year when everything is green, blooming, and fresh. I even took my workout outside yesterday and went for a jog with my boyfriend around our neighborhood. The fresh air was definitely needed!

Also, lately I've really been into watching beauty and makeup tutorials on YouTube. I've never been one of those girls that are SUPER into makeup. Like, I know how to put it on and all, but just have never really been INTO it, ya know? ULTA is having a sale on makeup brushes (buy 1, get 1 50% off!) and I plan to pick up a couple more of the Real Techniques brushes to add to the Core Collection set I have. And maybe find a good red orange lip color. I like Heat Wave from NARS at Sephora, though I'll have to see how it looks on me. Ha!

Spare the charm bracelet and go for a pair of big pearl earrings. This or a pearl necklace is enough to complete your look. Just make sure not to overdo it.

COVETING: DAINTY NECKLACES

First and foremost my prayers and thoughts are with the victims and families in West, Texas. A major explosion happened last night at a fertilizer plant, and it's just devastating. My hometown is about 15 minutes away, so this really hits home. If you are near or in Waco, Texas you can donate blood at Hillcrest Hospital.

I have been really into small, dainty necklaces as of late. There is just something so feminine and cute about a tiny, thin chain necklace. I LOVE a huge statement piece, but somehow these dainty necklaces make a statement in their own way. What do you think?

It was so daggum windy outside yesterday, but I was determined to snap some outfit photos! So no, I didn't steal Wendy Williams' "diva fan" (does she even still have that thing on the show?), this was actually the result of real wind! Ha! I found this blouse on deep discount at Gap over the weekend...I'm talking same price as a number 1 combo from Chick-Fil-A! My kind of deal folks! I love the whimsical heart print, the fabric is a great quality, and to my surprise the buttons didn't give me that annoying gaping problem in the middle. Win, win, win!

PRAYING FOR BOSTON...

The bombings that occured at the Boston marathon today truly broke my heart. The fact that someone could be so evil to even plan and act out and ruin an otherwise joyful and exciting event, is just horrendous. I pray for peace and comfort for the families and friends of the victims of this tragedy. I did a quick search for some phone numbers for those of you that are in the Boston area or are concerned about a loved one. Contact the Boston Mayor's Hotline for families of victims at 617-635-4500, and if you have tips about the event you can call 800-494-8477.
