I love San Francisco for so many reasons, but their choice for enhancing public transit shelters with the 3form product has so many forward thinking pluses+++

According to 3form, “The winning concept, by Lundberg Design, called for photo-voltaic cells and recycled polycarbonate material. The transit shelters consisted of an industrial structure with a bold, iconic roof design element.”

Also stated by San Francisco’s Mayor Gavin Newsom, “Transit shelters that use photovoltaics, LEDS, and WiFi are going to be standard in the future and I’m proud that San Francisco is once again acting like the pace car for other cities by trying and implementing these technologies.”

Displaying Artwork – What’s Right?

Wondering how to hang your artwork?Â There is no “right way,” but there are rules of thumb.

I recently completed framing these pieces and wanted to try new ways to install them.Â I considered laying the owls on the mantle, no need to hang for a “laid back” look.

A collage grouping made an unexpected layout with similar frames, I held the dimensions between the two prints the same leaving a gap from the large and small prints.

Consider laying out on the floor before you get started and refer to websites such as, Better Homes and Gardens, for ideas.

Garden Screen Turned Drop Ceiling

INSTALLED IT: Hanging from the ceiling.Â Suspended about 10″ below the ceiling the screen creates a drop ceiling effect.Â GivingÂ a lofty elevated look and the diamond pattern will add interested above our reading nook.

CONSIDER OTHER OBJECTS: Design elements don’t have to come from a typical retail outlet.Â Consider nature, antiques, look at your space and consider alternatives.Â It’s fun, easy and UNEXPECTED.

I’m just scraping the surface with my knowledge of rugs, but the more I learn the more artisinal it gets. Rugs on the floor are becoming my new medium for art.Â Although we typically like to hang large bold prints on the walls, drawing the eye to color, pattern and texture on the floor can be considered the “art” in the room.

e’bella Designs is a, “small, sustainable rug and pillow company that provides hand-made products from select artisans in Peru.”Â Using Alpaca and wool fibers, e’bella is able to add a soft fiber with depth and creating interesting modern patterns.Â These pieces are artwork for the floors and the statment in the room.

NeoCon World’s Trade Fair 2009, was as much fun and inspiring as I expected.Â A bustling of energy – packed with innovative commercial design solutions.Â Hallways and showrooms packed with design industry afficianatos, exhibitors, and enthusiasts.

Throughout the day I jotted down trends, concepts and designs, I noticed as standouts and the emerging design concepts.

Colors: Yellow, Gray, Orange, Deep Purple, Lime, Deep Blue
Fabric: Saturated / Muted Colors of Orange, Blue, Purple, Gray, Tan, Geometric Shapes
Carpet: Metallic Accents, Natural Fibers, Geometric Shapes
Products: Recycled Content in Carpet, Fabric and Furniture
Furniture: Low privacy screens, floating cubicle components, open office, emphasizing the horizontal line,
Furniture: Incorporated Resin Screens and Accents – fewer fabric privacy walls
Furniture: Individual Collaboration Boards and Pin Up Panels
Furniture Finish: White Wash Birch, Natural Walnut, White Veneer, Dark Wood Accents
Overall: Emphasis on collaboration in small groups and intimate work spaces for the individual

I found Jane Heller on Twitter, and really connected to her lifestyle photography.Â I typically don’t buy photos that Mike or I didn’t take, but there’s something special captured in the situational photography.

Looking at her prints give me a sense of association, memories, happy feelings.Â I requested two prints to be made in odd sizes and I’m working on a studio grouping of photography to go next to my desk.

I think these photos can stimulate my creativity.Â Happy thoughts, outta the box, not your typical photo… something more.
