After 11 consecutive months of increased sales tax revenue over 2010, the city of Aspen fared better than most of its ski resort counterparts in Colorado last year.

Snowmass 2011 sales tax up 8.5 percent over 2010

Led by the strongest December in at least four years, sales tax collections in the town of Snowmass Village rose by 8.5 percent in 2011 compared to 2010.

That was the second largest percentage gain over the year among eight Colorado mountain towns, placing Snowmass behind only Vail.

Aspen born-and-raised Nordic skier Noah Hoffman won a silver medal at Thursday’s U23 World Championships held in Turkey.

With a gutty performance in the 15K classic event, Hoffman, 23, became only the fourth American in history to medal in the U23 World Championships.
