HB 1349 would leave decisions up to local officials

A bill that, if passed, would allow access for mountain bikes into legally designated wilderness areas will be heard by the House Federal Lands Subcommittee Thursday morning in Washington, D.C.

Goal is to ride state’s fourteeners on a split board

Laura Hadar wants to become the first woman splitboarder to ride all 54 of Colorado’s 14,000-foot-tall mountains. Hadar and partner Nicky Anastas will share their quest in a slide show tonight at the Ute Mountaineer that begins at 7 p.m. Admission is free.

New magazine focuses on coasts and Aspen

Aspen’s crowded magazine market will add a new member this month, with the publisher of Purist promising it will offer something different.

The magazine, first published on Memorial Day weekend, plans on issuing its winter edition with an Aspen slant (along with its usual New York-Hamptons-Los Angeles focus) this month.

SkiCo will decide plan for Aspen Highlands and Buttermilk by today

Sunlight Mountain Resort will postpone its opening for the 2016/17 season, which was originally to have been this weekend. Paltry November snow and warm temperatures, followed by a dry start to December, are keeping the lifts from running at this time.
