<p style="text-align: left;">I&#8217;ve never met a client who didn&#8217;t feel exercise was important. Everyone knows the benefits that can be enjoyed by living an active lifestyle. Yet, there are challenges with creating a routine that works for you. I discussed this very issue with Debi Silber, The Mojo Coach™ and below is an article she wrote for all of you out there who want to dicover their perfect workout.</p>

<p style="text-align: center;"><strong>Your Perfect Workout</strong></p>

<p>What does your perfect workout mean? Is it a stroll in the park, taking a class, a rigorous hour of tennis, or using the Stairmaster during your favorite TV show? Maybe it means focusing on your breath in a yoga class, stretching your muscles with Pilates or running to your favorite songs. While any of these workouts benefit your body, mind and soul, many of us don’t exercise at all. In fact, the only exercise we’re getting is when they exercise our right…not to exercise.</p>
<p>If this sounds like you, it’s time to find your perfect workout. But what if you haven’t worked out in weeks, months, even years?<span id="more-2398"></span></p>
<ul>
<li>What matters is that you find something that you can enjoy.</li>
<li>What also matters is that you begin at a level that’s only slightly more challenging than what you feel you can do.</li>
</ul>
<p>This way, you don’t scare yourself off from beginning and sticking with a new routine. It’s also a great way to build confidence in yourself. By setting a goal that’s reasonable, then achieving that goal, you gain the confidence to keep trying. It’s an empowering feeling to take back the reins and know that your fitness and health are up to you.</p>
<p>Now like many women, let’s say you haven’t exercised in an embarrassingly long time. You’re never ending to-do list got the best of you and the only way you could get everything done was by cutting your own self care right off your list. So unfortunately, your exercise was one of the first things to go. This may have worked for a while but at some point, you began to feel sluggish, lethargic and unfit. Maybe you noticed that your clothes weren’t fitting as well as they used to. You may have realized that while you used to sprint up the steps, now you’re huffing and puffing as you near the top. Whatever caused you to see that you need exercise in your life doesn’t matter, as long as you use that information to get going.</p>
<p><strong>So, where do you begin?</strong></p>
<p>You can always start with walking. You know how to do it, you don’t need to be exceptionally coordinated and all you need is a properly fitting pair of walking shoes. Just by getting outside, looking at the changing leaves or noticing the beauty that surrounds you may be enough to keep you motivated to walk. If that’s not enough, you can bring an iPod or MP3 player to listen to your favorite music. There are also some great services which enable you to download workouts according to your workout level and needs. You can even download podcasts of programs you enjoy or just use the time as an opportunity to clear your head.</p>
<p>Now it doesn’t matter how much you have to do and how busy you are. You can justify or make excuses for anything you don’t want to do. The idea is to find a way to get it done so you can feel good again. For example, if you leave early in the morning and head off to work, you can have a gym bag packed and head to the gym before you come home. You can also try exercising during your lunch break, taking a short walking break every hour or finding an exercise buddy you can walk with and be accountable to.</p>
<p><strong>For moms</strong>: If you have young children, there are some other strategies you may want to try. Get on that treadmill in your home, use tapes, DVD’s or just tune into your local exercise channel. Just simply put your baby in an area safely nearby. Your baby may even get a real kick out of watching their mom working out.  If not, they can use the time to sleep, snack or play. If your children are a little older, give them a special activity that they only get to do while you work out. They’ll look forward to the activity while you get your workout in.</p>
<p>If you want to workout outside, there are great exercise joggers that allow you to walk, jog or run with your child safely strapped in. You can also wear your baby in a Baby Bjorn or baby backpack. This adds weighted resistance to your workout while taking away any excuse you may have! Your baby will also love the special time feeling close to you while getting some fresh air. Another option is to join a class for moms and their kids. If that doesn’t work for you, many health clubs offer babysitting for a small fee. Lastly, you can hire a babysitter or find a friend that is willing to take turns babysitting each others children so you can both make the time for much needed self care.</p>
<p>It doesn’t matter what you do, as long as you do something. The key is to find a way to incorporate exercise back into your life. If you do nothing now and exercise for fifteen minutes tomorrow, you’re moving in the right direction. What’s most important is that you give your body, mind and spirit what it so rightfully deserves. And as you begin to feel better about your body and your commitment to take better care of yourself, your body will kindly respond by slowly getting back to being the finely tuned machine it had been long ago. Then at some point, you may see the beauty in you that everyone else does.</p>

<p>How often do you get caught up in struggling to find an answer, even saying to yourself, &#8220;I should know this by now?&#8221; When we are in the midst of a life challenge, it sure feels overwhelming&#8230; Like it will never end&#8230; that we will never figure it out&#8230;</p>
<p>When we were 20, we had lots of things that we thought we knew&#8230; lots of things that we knew we didn&#8217;t know&#8230; Looking back we can see that we are more than capable of embracing our life experiences from a powerful place of learning and growth.</p>
<p>I recently asked my readers what they know now that they didn&#8217;t know when they were 20. Here is what they said. As you read the responses below, <span id="more-2389"></span>not only embrace a trust in yourself that you are capable of amazing growth, also take a moment to thank that 20 year old with in you for all that she taught you.</p>
<p><strong>What do you know now that you didn&#8217;t know when you were 20?&#8230;</strong></p>
<ul>
<li>That I like hot sauce on my eggs</li>
<li>That I&#8217;m an empath</li>
<li>That I would move to California in 2009 and turn my life upside down for the best!</li>
<li>That I actually DON&#8217;T know everything, and probably never will!</li>
<li>That I would move to Florida from NY and get stuck in this dumb ass town! <img src='http://www.secretstoultimateliving.com/wp-includes/images/smilies/icon_razz.gif' alt=':P' class='wp-smiley' />  (sorry but feeling disgusted right now)</li>
<li>That it&#8217;s okay not to know everything (but I may need to be reminded of that again tomorrow!)</li>
<li>Where do I start?</li>
<li>Its only been 3yrs&#8230; but so much. Life changes on a day to day basis, nothing is permanent, and Ive got to wake up every day with a smile no matter what =D Life is something to permanently be worked on.</li>
<li>How to love myself!</li>
<li>Lol, not everybody&#8217;s problem is mine!</li>
<li>That I have the choice to do anything I want!</li>
<li>That you are not forever young, but by growing older you do become wiser!</li>
<li>what I&#8217;m actually capable of</li>
<li>I am capable of a lot more than I think.</li>
<li>Thank God, as I got older, and through the &#8220;School of Hard Knocks&#8221; and experience, have achieved many goals. Independent and knowledgeable, I have empathy for others, and unafraid of new challenges!</li>
<li>I can say no and mean it</li>
<li>I am able recognize obstacles in my life, valuate them, and also manage to go past them.</li>
<li>I was never as fat as I thought I was <img src='http://www.secretstoultimateliving.com/wp-includes/images/smilies/icon_smile.gif' alt=':)' class='wp-smiley' /> </li>
<li>I did not know as much as I thought I did.</li>
<li>That I have the ability to do anything!!</li>
<li>That I can&#8217;t do everything!</li>
<li>That there really is a lot more I can do with the right mindset</li>
<li>That my body image meter was way off..</li>
<li>that I am somebody!</li>
<li>That I have a passion for Pregnant Teen&#8217;s and seeing them succeed in life.</li>
<li>I didn&#8217;t know who I was! I was clueless. I now know I am a child of God created for His purpose! I know that I am beautifully and wonderfully made. My self-esteem back then was horrible. I was depressed and truly did not enjoy life. I love life now! Thanks!!!</li>
<li>That I am alive. That I could leave that abusive relationship and raise a child</li>
<li>How strong I really am and and through that, how much empathy and compassion I have.</li>
<li>inner strength, resilience</li>
<li>What a good question! Not to be so attached to how I thought my life needed to play out. That the hills and dips are all part of the amazing journey.</li>
<li>That if I can dream it, I can do it!</li>
</ul>

<p>President Obama recently issued an Executive Order establishing the <strong>National Prevention, Health Promotion, and Public Health Council.</strong> Within the council there will be an <strong>A</strong><strong>dvisory </strong><strong>G</strong><strong>roup</strong> appointed which will develop policy and program recommendations and advise the Council on lifestyle-based chronic disease prevention and management, integrative health care practices, and health promotion.</p>
<p>I am hoping that you will agree that a Naturopathic Doctor should be part of this Advisory Group.  The AANP has nominated CNDA past president, Dr. Tara Levy for appointment to the advisory group.  We are asking for your support for this appointment by taking action a couple of ways:<span id="more-2386"></span></p>

<p>You likely already know that good time management skills help add those beloved check marks to the ToDo list. Yet, it can also help reduce your stress level and improve your quality of life.</p>
<p>It&#8217;s easy to get overwhelmed by the multitude of tasks to be completed each day. Adding to the frustration, it seems like days literally fly by, landing us at the end of it feeling like we haven&#8217;t accomplished much.</p>
<p>A daily time log is a simple way to evaluate how effectively you are using your time.</p>
<p>For five days, keep track <span id="more-2381"></span>of your time and how you are spending it. Log when you wake up, how long you shower, your commute time and other daily activities. Then review your log to identify where you can spend your time better. For example, if you find that you make multiple errand runs a week, consider keeping a list of needed items and consolidate your errand runs into one.</p>
<p>By mindfully tracking your time and then making needed adjustments, you may actually find you have more time than you think.</p>

<li>In September of 2002, we took a month long car voyage to the East Coast. We visited Vermont, New Hampshire, Maine and many other places. It was a great experience. Our favorite stop was in Virginia, where we went to Williamsburg and then on to Virginia beach to visit Edgar Cayces ARE HQs.</li>

<li>I love cruises because you pay once and everything is included and you unpack once and get to see several places. They really are the most relaxing vacations I ever take. But, if given a choice &#8211; Athens is my favorite city in the world. I love the food, the culture, the people, the beauty, the history, the meandering walks through the Plaka. It&#8217;s amazing!</li>
<li>It was 10 years ago on a Friday evening after work we wanted to do something different so we packed a weekend bag and went to Copenhagen. We stayed at a lovely hotel, had dinner at a nice restaurant. We went to as many clubs &amp; pubs as we could that friday night and same thing Saturday. It was one of our best weekend ever! Everything was just unforgettable. This one stand out because it was a spur of the moment type of thing!!</li>
<li>A cruise (which I&#8217;m not a big fan) with a boyfriend. We were on the ship for 2 weeks and went through the Panama Canal, Venezuela and many others places. We had walkie tallkies and were like kids all over the ship. Each destination, we would find some off the beaten path excursion to do (sometimes scary). We were not your average tourists. I actually fell more in love on that trip than I was before leaving. It was quite the adventure and had a better appreciation for him&#8230;. weird&#8230;</li>
<li>I went to Australia 5 weeks ago and I loved it</li>
<li>down south when my daughter turned 21 (6 years ago) we had the best mom daughter time &#8211; the sun poison I got</li>
<li>Kauai in 2000. We stayed in Poipu and we took a boat ride to the Napali coast &#8211; just beautiful. Of course, I love Waimea canyon. My spirit feels at home on the island of Kauai &#8211; don&#8217;t tell my husband he&#8217;s been trying to move us to Hawaii for the last 5 years. I wouldn&#8217;t mind settling on Kauai, but not Oahu. &lt;giggle&gt;</li>
<li>4th wedding anniversary. Totally spontaneous road trip to Split Rock Lighthouse in Minnesota. It was Autumn and the landscape was warm and gorgeous and we had the most wonderful time, just the two of us.</li>
<li>1999 New Years holiday trip.. island hopping in Fiji and crossing over the International dateline in Fiji on Dec 31st 1999..First in the world to to bring in Y2K and the last&#8230;super cool and tons of pics&#8230;And Bonus: I Won this!!!</li>
<li>Our cross-country move from NJ to OR. In an RV. That I actually drove. (!!!) The highlight of the trip was visiting The Badlands (coinciding with our one-year anniversary) &#8211; it&#8217;s one of the most amazing places on the planet. Unfortunately, a few hours after that the RV caught fire and burned to the ground. So we lost almost everything we owned. Finished the trip in our Toyota Echo. Despite that tragedy, we traveled through so many states and saw lots and lots of our beautiful country.</li>

<li>I think the best trip I took was to Kauai a few years back&#8230;I definitely would love to go back sooner than later&#8230;it is so relaxing there, both in the way of life and just the whole attitude&#8230;I love it</li>
<li>92&#8230; Maui.. also very relaxing, helicopter tour over waterfalls on the west side was absolutely breathtaking! Would go back in a minute given the chance!</li>

<p>Equality Now is deeply concerned about Sakineh Mohammadi-Ashtiani, an Iranian woman sentenced to death by stoning for adultery.</p>
<p>Information received by Equality Now suggests that Ms. Mohammadi-Ashtiani has been sentenced to death by stoning for committing adultery with two men. The verdict is final and could be implemented at any time according to credible sources. Ms. Mohammadi-Ashtiani is said to have been in jail in Tabriz for the past five years. She was initially sentenced to 99 lashes on 15 May 2006 by a court in the city if Osku in the North West Iranian province of East Azerbaijan for the lesser crime of having “illicit relations” with the two men, in other words, engaging in conduct that did not constitute sexual intercourse. However, on 10 September 2006 her case was taken up again by a different court, the Sixth Branch of the Penal Court of East Azerbaijan Province, where the charge of adultery was brought against her.</p>
<p>Sakineh Mohammadi-Ashtiani denied the charge and, as far as Equality Now is aware, no relevant evidence was admitted against her. She was convicted solely on the basis of the judge’s opinion that she had committed adultery and was sentenced to death by stoning.</p>

<p>If you want to live a long and healthy life there is one surefire way to increase your chances: Exercise! Making excuses and <a title="procrastinating" href="http://www.secretstoultimateliving.com/50-fabulous-ways-to-stay-motivated/">procrastinating</a> won&#8217;t prolong your life or get you off the hook from taking good care of yourself. My motto: Do TODAY what you can do tomorrow. Here are 7 Reasons Why Exercise is good for you!</p>

<li>Good exercise = good sleep. When you engage in an active lifestyle, you will sleep better at night.</li>
<li>Just 30 minutes of cardiovascular exercise a day will reduce mild to moderate symptoms of depression by HALF!</li>
<li>Working out improves your self esteem that can also enhance your sex life! When we feel good about our <a title="bodies " href="http://www.secretstoultimateliving.com/sexy-comes-in-all-sizes/">bodies </a>we feel good about being intimate too.<span id="more-2327"></span></li>
<li>Regular exercise increases your immune system. Say &#8220;hello&#8221; to exercise and &#8220;goodbye&#8221; to the common cold.</li>
<li>When you work out consistently you will feel more alert and energized throughout your day! Exercise = <a title="Energy" href="http://www.secretstoultimateliving.com/50-fabulous-ways-to-increase-your-energy/">Energy</a>!</li>
<li>Resistance training increases your muscle mass which then increases your metabolism making it easier for you to lose weight and keep it off.</li>
<li>Engaging in regular exercise reduces your risk of major disease: heart disease, colon cancer, breast cancer and Alzheimer&#8217;s just to name a few!</li>
</ol>
<p>So there you have it! The next time you find yourself saying &#8220;I&#8217;ll exercise tomorrow&#8221; consider what that tomorrow could be like. Working out today drastically improves you life, wellness and energy level paving the way for all of your tomorrows to be vibrant and joyful!</p>

<p>An important key to feeling confident and empowered is to take excellent care of your body. When your body is not cared for properly you will feel sluggish, irritable and often times depressed! What you put into your body makes all the difference yet with the plethora of options out there it isn&#8217;t always easy to know what to eat&#8230; or what to shop for! I invited my friend Debi Silbur AKA the Mojo Coach™ to write an article for us about how to become Supermarket Savvy. Here she shares with us how to read food labels and how to become &#8220;critical&#8221; grocery store shoppers.</p>
<h2>Becoming Supermarket Savvy</h2>

<p>One of the easiest ways to avoid temptation is to avoid bringing high-fat, high-sugar foods into your home in the first place. This effort begins in the supermarket, so learning to shop more effectively can be one of the most useful skills when trying to create new, healthy habits.</p>
<blockquote><p>The first step is to avoid the random impulse purchasing of binge inducing trigger foods. The easiest way to do this is by shopping with a prepared list. Sitting down to write a list out may seem like a big task, but you can make it easier.<a href="http://themojocoach.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2009/09/grocery-list.jpg"></a></p></blockquote>
<p>An easy trick is to keep a running list easily accessible in your kitchen &#8211; maybe hanging it on the refrigerator or leaving it on the counter. When you are running low on something, jot it down. When you think of a healthy meal you’d like to try, write down the ingredients. When you see a picture, advertisement or recipe for a delicious healthy meal, grab your list and write it down.<span id="more-2319"></span></p>
<p>Another great shortcut in list making (and healthy meal planning) is to subscribe to a meal planning service, which not only gives you a week of healthy recipes, but comes with a handy grocery list listing the ingredients you’ll need.</p>
<p>Once you have your list, make sure you only take the list to the supermarket. Leave your hunger and your kids at home if you can.</p>
<p>If you food shop when you’re hungry, you’re much more tempted to buy things you would normally be able to bypass. By having a light snack or mini meal before you enter the supermarket, you’re judgment will stay intact and you will be able to make more sound choices.<a href="http://themojocoach.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2009/09/screaming-kid.jpg"></a></p>
<p>Have you noticed how much more junk food you buy when you bring your kids to the supermarket with you?</p>
<p>“Mom, can you pleeeeeease buy this (sugary, calorie-laden) cereal I saw on TV?”</p>
<p>“Mom, everyone brings in these (high fat, high cholesterol, nutrient void) snacks to school!”</p>
<blockquote><p>The battles can be endless in the supermarket, with foods containing the least nutrition and the most fat, sugar and calories strategically placed right at your children’s eye level. If you must bring your children, also bring a strong resolve to stick to your list. If you have a choice, leave the kids at home and take a few moments for yourself. You can use the opportunity to make better choices that the whole family will benefit from.</p></blockquote>
<p>So, you’re armed with your list, you’ve had a snack and now you are alone in the supermarket.</p>
<p>Where do you begin?</p>
<p><strong>First, let’s talk about labels.</strong></p>
<ol>
<li>The first think to notice when looking at a nutrition label is to note the number of servings in the package. The calories, fat, cholesterol, fiber and sodium are all listed for only one serving. So, for example, if you buy a bag of popcorn and the bag contains ten servings and you finish the bag, the calories, fat, cholesterol and other nutritional information must all be multiplied by ten.</li>
<li>Ingredients are listed in order from the highest concentration to the lowest. This means that if sugar or fat are listed within the first few ingredients, there’s a high concentration of sugar or fat on the item. The reverse is also true. If the healthy-sounding ingredients &#8211; the fruit, the whole grains &#8211; are at the end of the ingredient list, there is likely to be only a tiny bit of them in the product.</li>
<li>Sugar is often disguised under different names. High fructose corn syrup, any ingredient ending in “-ose”, honey, molasses, fruit juice concentrate, and brown sugar are all forms of sugar that act just like regular, white, refined sugar within your body.</li>
<li> If the front label claims that the food is “healthy”, “low-fat”, “wholesome”, “made with whole grain”, “made with fruit”, check the back label to see what the real story is.  Food producers do not generally have your good health in mind when they put foods on the shelf. They want the foods to sell, and they know that these kinds of claims catch your attention. But the ingredients often tell a different story. Foods may be low in sugar, but high in fat and artificial coloring. They may contain a small amount of whole grain, along with a hefty dose of white flour and high fructose corn syrup. Make sure you look at the whole label and don’t rely on the health claims to guide your choices.</li>
<li>How many of the ingredients on the list look familiar? How many can you pronounce? How many would you feel comfortable adding to something you were cooking or baking at home? When you were a child and your grandmother baked her delicious, mouth-watering apple pie, the only flavor enhancer she added was the love that went into baking it for you. Although there are thousands of items available in the typical supermarket today, an alarming amount are pre-packaged, processed and provide little nutrient value.</li>
</ol>
<p>When a food is processed, it’s altered from its natural state. Valuable nutrients, vitamins and minerals are taken out while chemicals and additives are injected back in. Food dyes, flavor enhancers, stabilizers and preservatives may make food look more colorful or extend shelf life but think about it. If a product can last indefinitely in a store or a vending machine, what happens to it when it’s in your body?</p>
<p>An easy rule to make healthy purchasing decisions would be this: if you can’t pronounce it, if you wouldn’t add it to anything you were cooking or baking at home, if you wouldn’t find the ingredient listed anywhere in your favorite cookbook, it’s probably best not to eat it.</p>
<p>So what are the healthiest choices to make when food shopping?</p>
<blockquote><p>Most of the healthiest foods are located in the outermost aisles of the supermarket, especially in the fruit and vegetable departments.</p></blockquote>
<p>Let’s start in the <strong>produce department. </strong>Here’s where you really want to fill up your cart.  Stock up on beautiful, interesting and colorful fruits and vegetables. Different colors of fruits and vegetables offer different nutrients, so just by making colorful selections you’re automatically increasing your chances of getting a wide variety of healthy nutrients. There are also many varieties of prewashed, precut lettuces and other vegetables available, making it easy to prepare interesting salads and side dishes. Here’s where you splurge, because if a variety of pretty, precut vegetables are available at home, your may reconsider eating pre-packaged, processed junk food.</p>
<p>In the <strong>meat section</strong> opt for leaner cuts of beef and poultry. Choose cuts with less visible fat to decrease your intake of saturated fat. If you are buying ground meat, look closely at the percent of fat (most labels now show the fat content) and buy the leanest version. With fish, choose both fatty (salmon and tuna) and lean varieties. Fatty fish are great sources of omega 3’s and white colored varieties (flounder, sole, and halibut) are low in fat and calories. For vegetarians or those trying to decrease their intake of animal protein, bypass this aisle entirely for protein sources coming from tofu, nuts, seeds, etc.</p>
<p>In the <strong>dairy section</strong> look for words such as “low fat”, “non fat”, “fat free”, “1 percent”, “2 percent”, and “skim”. Consider switching to skim milk, or at least working your way down to 2%, then 1% and then skim. Whole milk contains about 3.5% fat (and 150 calories in a serving), so 2% milk is still more than half of the fat (and 120 calories), while skim milk has only .4 grams of fat and 86 calories per serving.</p>
<p>Eggs, butter, margarine and soy products are often in these aisles so read labels and choose carefully. Watch the fat in your dairy products and look out for added sugar in yogurts, creamers and soymilk.</p>
<p>You can still pick up healthy items in some of the <strong>center aisles</strong> if you choose carefully.  In the grain aisle, try to avoid refined carbohydrates and opt for whole grain and high fiber whenever possible. Choose 100% whole-wheat or sprouted grain bread, high-fiber cereals, whole-grain pasta, and brown rice. The closer the grain is to its natural source, the more fiber and nutrients it contains. Beans can also be found in either the grain or canned food aisles. Dry beans require soaking, which may not appeal to you. Canned beans are just as nutritious, so if you’ll eat more beans this way, buy the canned version! In the <strong>frozen foods section</strong>, you might want to grab a few bags of frozen vegetables or mixed blends (without the added sauces or butter flavoring). Frozen vegetables retain the vitamins and nutrients while being convenient and easy to prepare.</p>
<p>When you work on becoming more supermarket savvy, you become more familiar with labels, packaging, and products available in your supermarket and you begin to realize that your shopping trips can be the first step to healthier eating, instead of a war zone where you battle with your best intentions, your cravings and your judgment.</p>
