End of the road for ASOG (For now)

Over the year or so I have been writing for ASOG, I have noticed that the articles that are related to theme park news were among the most popular on the site. Theme parks and roller coasters have been a passion of mine for quite some time. So I have decided to create a completely separate website for theme park related news called ThrillGeek.

ASOG will remain dormant for a period of time until I figure out what to do with the site. I simply do not have the time to upkeep two completely different blogs.

I would also like to take a quick second to thank everyone over the past year that has checked out ASOG and been part of this site.

ThrillGeek will be all things theme park, from news to photos and videos.

Wreck-It Ralph coming to your home in February & March

IM GONNA WRECK IT! The film that captured the hearts of many die-hard retro gamers over the summer will be hitting store shelves on March 5th on Blu-ray. If you want to get the digital download, that is coming a little earlier on February 12th.

Awesome Jurassic Park/Half Life 2 Mod

If you are a Jurassic Park fan, or better yet, a Jurassic Park and Half-Life 2 fan, you will want to check out thte video above. It is a Jurassic Park recreation straight from The Source Engine. For over six years, a team of dedicated fans have been coding away recreating famous scenes from the Jurassic Park film. No word on a release date for the mod, but we will certainly be bringing you more info as soon as we get it.

Jurassic Park is also celebrating its 20th anniversary this year with a 3D release of the original film scheduled to come to theaters on April 5th.

Angry Birds was downloaded more than 30 Million times over the holiday, between the dates of December 22nd and December 29th. Check out the graph above for a few more interesting statistics.

Middle Earth coming to Universal Studios?

In an interesting rumor going around today, word is going around that Universal has purchased the rights for all theme park rights to build Middle Earth attractions, aka Lord of the Rings. Nothing has officially been announced yet as to what will happen, or where it will go. This is strictly a rumor at this point, but it has been in talks for quite some time. Perhaps it is finally becoming a reality.

Wii Mini Coming to Canada

If the current sized Nintendo Wii is too big for your living room, Nintendo may have a solution in the way of the Nintendo Wii Mini. When it is released on December 7, it will only be available in Canada, but more countries may soon follow.

The Wii Mini will feature a glossy red color with a black lid that will pop open to place your game inside the console. The Wii Mini will set you back $99, not a bad holiday gift idea for you Canadians eh?

You will also get one nunchuck and one Wii Remote with the package.

Transformers: The Ride 3D coming to Universal Orlando

Well, the cat is finally out of the bag. Quite possibly one of the worst kept secrets in theme park announcement history, Universal has officially announced that Transformers are coming to the Universal Orlando Resort in summer 2013. This will most likely be a clone of the Transformers 3D rides already built in California and Singapore and is replacing the old Hercules and Xena building at the park.

Disney buys Lucas Films for $4 Billion, new films coming

This is quite possibly the most exciting news of the day. George Lucas has officially announced that Disney has purchased Lucas Films for $4.05 billion dollars. Disney has also announced that this will bring a new trilogy of Star Wars films, starting with Episode VII being released in 2015.

"It's now time for me to pass Star Wars on to a new generation of filmmakers. I've always believed that Star Wars could live beyond me, and I thought it was important to set up the transition during my lifetime." said George Lucas.

The deal also includes Industrial Light & Magic and Skywalker Sound, as well as rights to the "Indiana Jones" franchise.

I got the chance today to get a sneak preview of the New Fantasyland at the Magic Kingdom. From Enchanted tales with Belle to the Little Mermaid attraction, this is a much needed expansion to the existing Fantasyland. Disney has once again outdone themselves. Check out my on-ride video of the new Little Mermaid attraction called Under The Sea Journey of The Little Mermaid. The beginning has a few blurry parts, my camera was having issues adjusting to the different lighting situations.

Microsoft swinging the ban-hammer on early Halo 4 players

Think getting an early start on Halo 4 is a good idea? You may want to think twice about that. Microsoft is giving the perma-ban to players on Xbox Live who decide to venture into the world of the Forerunners a bit early. Check out this email from players being permanently banned for playing Halo 4:

“This email is to notify you that your Xbox Live privileges have been permanently suspended due to illegitimate prerelease title play,” the email reads. “Because your conduct is in violation, the Xbox Live Enforcement Team has issued a permanent suspension. Your Xbox Live privileges will not be reinstated.”

So do yourself a favor, and just wait until November 6, like the rest of us.

New Transformers Universe MMO trailer

The latest Transformers game, called Transformers Universe, has received a new trailer. Transformers Universe is being developed by Jagex, creator of Runescape.

Transformers Universe will be a web-based MMO and will be free to play. Check out trailer above.

Xbox Music launching tomorrow

Xbox Music will be launching tomorrow on the Xbox 360. It will be taking place of the Zune Marketplace. So if you currently have a Zune Pass, it will be converted to a Xbox Music pass. For those of you wanting to sign up tomorrow, for a monthly fee of $9.99, Xbox Gold members can enjoy unlimited streaming of over 18 million tracks.

Windows 8 PC and tablets will get it on October 26th when Windows 8 launches. If you are on one of these devices, you will have free streaming for six months, after that six months is over, your streaming becomes limited without an Xbox Pass.

Xbox Live Gold users will be able to demo Xbox Music free for one month starting tomorrow to get a feel for the new program.

Halo 4 leaked early?

Well, it seems we have a bit of Halo 4 pre-mature gaming going on here. It appears that photos and videos are beginning to pop up of people who have, somehow, got their hands on a copy of Halo 4 almost a month early. Do you think these are legit copies? Or just people looking for attention?

Either way, Microsoft is taking this matter very seriously and are working with law enforcement to resolve this issue.

Halo 4 officially hits store shelves on November 6, 2012.

Ninja Turtles to get the LEGO treatment in 2013

Thought I might share this with you guys on this fine Thursday afternoon. LEGO just announced at New York Comic-Con, that our favorite green turtles will be getting the LEGO treatment in 2013. Not much else is known at this time, but we will share it with you as we get more.

Star Wars Angry Birds is officially coming to a mobile device near you. The game was officially unveiled today. The game will hit mobile devices on November 8th and will take you on adventures from the Death Star to the desserts of Tatooine . Star Wars Angry Birds themed merchindise will also be hitting store shelves this fall.

SpaceX Falcon 9 launches from Cape Canaveral

The latest rocket from SpaceX, Falcon 9 just lifted off from Cape Canaveral at 8:35 EST. Falcon 9 is the first of twelve scheduled launches from SpaceX after a successful test launch in May.

The Dragon capsule will return approximately 734 pounds of scientific materials, such as tests, materials and educational experiements. It will also return 504 pounds of space station hardware. Some of the tests and experiments being launched on Dragon include plant cell biology, human biotechnology, among others.

Ready for more Angry Birds? Continuing on their licensing frenzy, it looks like Rovio has their next Angry Birds ready to be unveiled. It appears a cloaked bird with a lightsaber is all we got to go off for now. It looks like our favorite feathered friends aren't going anywhere anytime soon.

No word yet officially if this will be a mobile game, or some other merchandise spin-off.
