The Disney Store has brought back the two-sided Jack Skellington tiki-like mug we spotted in the store originally back in 2005.

Now marked as being "created especially for Walt Disney World Resort and Disneyland Resort," the ceramic vessel measures 7 inches tall x 4.5 inches wide x 4 in diameter and features a happy Jack face on one side and a angry face on the other.

I may have missed my chance to get one then, but I'm not going to make the same mistake again, as they are now available online.

Back in February of 2011, we noted when LEGO released a hula girl minifigure as part of the 3rd series of collectible closed-package mystery figures. The toys are now about to launch their 8th series, so its getting one of the girls now is almost impossible.

To make things a little easier on us, LEGO has just come out with a luau-themed LEGO Minifigure Accessory Pack which includes the hula girl and two other previously-released boy and girl surfer minifigures, along with a barbecue, fruit, palm tree, parrot, and shell.

With Tiki Oasis 12 just around the corner, our friends at Dionysus Records were nice enough to send us a copy of this Tiki Oasis 11 Commemorative 45 RPM Record with the titular unofficial event theme song by the band Lushy on one side and a cover of "Tijuana Taxi" by the Herb Alpert tribute band Heb on the other.

The disc was pressed in a limited edition of 1000 on a random selection of colored vinyl. The covers feature artwork by Derek Yaniger and (I believe) Tiki Tony.

We're now only a week away from Tiki Oasis, in San Diego, California, the largest annual tiki event in the United States, and arguably, the world. This is the event's 12th year and once again, the organizers all pulling out the stops to make it special for visitors new and old. The four-day event runs from August 16-19, 2012.

This year's Oasis has a spy theme but the fun is still pure tiki, with a mix of live bands, seminars, Djs, a marketplace, car show, art show, and burlesque shows. Entertainers include: King Kukulele, The Barbwires, The Love Me Nots, The Lampshades, The Exotics, Los Venturas, King Paris, The Devil-Ettes, The Martini Kings, The Tikiyaki Orchestra, Casino Royale, Truus de Groot, Thee Swank Bastards, Creepxotica, Jason Lee and the R.I.P. Tides, Molotov, Rob Zabrecky, and Marina the Fire-Eating Mermaid. Seminars on tiki history and mixology will be led by Bosko, Duke Weiss, Charles Phoenix, Martin Cate, Chris Mancini, Sven Kirsten, and more.

Tickets run from $15 for Thursday night's meet and greet only to $230 for access to all events and a commemorative tiki mug. Tickets to symposiums are also available on an individual basis.

This Saturday, the Egyptian Theater will present another in its series of Tiki Nights. This evening will be extra special as it will include a showing of director Jochen Hirschfeld's epic TIKI VOLUME 1: PARADISE LOST, which has literally been years in the making. Here's the teaser trailer:

Interactive Alphabet is an super-cute app for iPhone, iPod Touch, and iPad that gently teaches kids the alphabet by showing objects that start with each of the letters from A-Z.

My two-year-old and I have both fallen in love with the app. He loves the fact that each letter has its own interactive experience (kids can play the Xylophone, a Fan blows the text off of the screen when switched on) and I love the Hawaiian influences found throughout the app, from the subtle background music featuring ukulele to the nods to island life in the alphabet: V is for volcano (which erupts), B is for Beach, and S is for Squid, to name a few. The developer, Pi'ikea Street, also runs a blog with craft ideas for kids.

The U.S. Post Office issued stamps earlier this year commemorating my favorite form of casual-ware, the aloha shirt. Each of the 5 stamps in the series depicts a different classic shirt: two show surfers and their boards; another fossil fish, shells, and sea stars, one the bird of paradise flower, and the last the Kilauea volcano on Hawaii's big island. The stamps use photographs taken by Honolulu-based photographer Ric Noyle of historic shirts from island-based manufacturers and retailers Alfred Shaheen, Watumull's, Leilani, and Malihini.

The 32-cent (first class postcard) stamps have proven to be unusually popular, selling more than 50 million in the month of April alone. In June, the post office reissued the stamps with adhesive-backing in books of 10, joining the already released rolls and sheets introduced in January.

Besides the stamps, the USPS is also selling giclée prints and other collectibles of the stamp designs.
