Describe the image and why you chose it

In the image you can see a man with some facial hair wearing a button down shirt and jeans with a gun by his pocket, also wearing a hat. I chose this photo/ image because when I think of cowboys I think of a man with facial hair, a gun, wearing jeans and a shirt, and riding a horse. So I chose this photo because it showed most of the things I thought a cowboy was. I also chose the photo because of how it is in black and white.

Describe the image and why you chose it

In the image you can see a sign that says opportunity. I chose this image because of how when we learned about Homesteaders we learned that they got land for free but then they would have to pay for it later on and how they thought that this was an opportunity for them.

Define homestead:

The meaning on homestead is house or a farmhouse.

Describe how people were able to attain land under the Homestead Act of 1862. What was that process?

They were able to attain land by claiming their land since they had 160 acres to clam but they also had to pay a small fee. Then they would later have to pay for the land regularly.

Describe the steppe or semi-arid climate:

The semi-arid climate is a climate or an area or a place that is hot and dry like Taki’s and has 20 inches of rain each year.

Describe the grasslands biome.

Grassland biomes are large, rolling terrains of grasses, flowers and herbs. Latitude, soil and local climates for the most part determine what kinds of plants grow in a particular grassland. A grassland is a region where the average annual precipitation is great enough to support grasses, and in some areas a few trees. Grassland biomes are land that is alive.

Use Unit 6 Lesson 2 to describe specific challenges faced by homesteaders due the climate and geography of the frontier.

When homesteaders would make their sod house out of mud/dirt they would

often struggle with the rain that would happen. The rain would cause the dirt from the house to turn into mud and then the sod house would collapse. They also had to irrigate land since they didn’t have enough water sources to keep them supplied.

In the image you can see a black and white photo of and old house that is falling apart and breaking down. I chose this image because of how the house looks very old and broken down, which is something that wealthy elites would think of other people’s houses compared to them.

Use Unit 6 Lesson 3 to describe the process in which people who were already wealthy were able to use capital to buy land in the Old West and to make even more money.

Texas handed out three million acres of land and state land to them because they wanted them to create the XIT ranch. So the wealthy build the Texas a capital in return.

The railroads since they were able to sell more land than others and population grew.

Land sellers and land buyers since they were able to sell a lot of land to people and people were able to buy land for a low price.

What Real Cowboys and Ranch Hands Thought I Was

Describe the image and why you chose it

In the photo it is a cowboy riding a horse that is wearing gloves and baggy pants with a hat and a scarf. I chose this photo because of how cowboys looked like that in the old west when they were doing their work and all of that. The photo I chose is also supposed to represent how cowboys looked like and how they worked.

Describe the people who worked as cowboys and ranch hands in the Old West.

The first cowboys were Mexican Vaqueros who were riders of the Western range. Then later were taken over by American cowboys.

Describe the equipment that would be used by cowboys and ranch hands in the Old West.

They used wagons called Chuck Wagon and the Hoodlum Wagon to carry all of their supplies that they had. Cowboys also used guns called a pistol.

Describe the characteristics and values of the cowboys and ranch hands of the Old West.

Cowboys were hardworking and tough. Ranchers were also hardworking and conscientious. They valued things like achievement, skill, and things like growth. Something that Lebron James would possess.

Define stampede:

A stampede is a sudden panicked rush of horses, cows, or other animals.

Describe why the stampede was a chief cause of concern for cowboys and how to end one.

They needed to gain control of the stampede which could be a hard task to do. They could possibly get hurt and hurt the other animals. The speed of the herd was also very scary by how fast it was. They ended these stampedes by seeing if the herd was bending then they would fall back. This eventually ended and slowed down the stampede.

Describe the image and why you chose it

In the image you can see that there are native americans and then white men looking at the native americans angrily, while the native americans look like they are upset and also angry. I chose this image because of how we read things that Native Americans said about how American settlers were taking their land, their food, and their belongings. In the photo it looks like the American settlers are trying to take things from the Native Americans. This photo is also supposed to represent how people treated black people when more and more came and started taking things away from them because of how many there were. They started to treat black people as being wrong and did bad things to them.

I chose this image because of how I chose a primary source that talks about The Homestead Act. I also chose this image because this is what people in the Homestead act looked like and what everything looked like from the way the houses looked and how the land looked in the Homestead Act.

I chose this primary source because when you first look at it, it has most of the things that were in the unit 6 lesson documents. Which means that I can still learn new things from it but also know what they are talking about since they are also talking about the same thing as we learned in our documents.

What I Really Was

Describe the image and why you chose it

In the image you can see all these buildings and this huge road for people to go on. You can also see that there is a lot of horses with wagons.I chose this image because of how you can see that there are a lot of wagons and horses, which is something the old west had. I also chose this from the way the roads look and how they aren’t made of something fancy like they show us in ads or on tv shows or movies. Instead the roads are made out of dirt.

Describe the various peoples that would be included that would reflect a more accurate representation of the people who were part of the Last West/Frontier.

Describe what people would see had they been in the Last West/Frontier including geographic features, structures, landscape, technology, and/or animals.

They would most likely see things like sod houses or dirt roads. They will also see lots of horses and wagons since that is how people travelled in the old west. They would also see people wearing very old clothes like girls wearing long skirts and dresses and guys in pants and hats. I also think that people would see lost of farms and cattle since there was a lot of ranchers in the old west.

I chose this image because I was still very confused on why they were giving free land away like that. Also why did they give it away for free if they were just going to have to pay for it later on?

First Post Fitness Goals

My goal this year for the Fitness gram is to get a lower score for the mile run. I wanna work on that one the most but I also want to get higher/ lower scores for my other Fitness gram tests.

For the mile I got 12:11:00 for my first quarter, but my mid year I want to change this by getting at least just minutes and no seconds. I would at least want to get about 9:00:00 by mid year and then get 8:00:00 by the end of the year or maybe lower. The mile is something that is important to me because it is one of the harder fitness gram test so I would really like to improve on it and work hard. The mile is also my main focus of what I want to get better at. To improve on this I can do squats, lunges, or depth jumps every day.

For the pacer I got 32 as my score. This is something I wasn't really proud of because I know I could have done better. I want to get somewhere around 45 by the end of the first quarter and then get somewhere around 55-60 at the end of the year. This is something that I definitely want to get better at but not as much as the mile. To improve on this I can do more running, squats, lunges, things that will help improve legs.

For the Curl up test I got 64. This is one of my worst scores for the curl up test and this tells me that I need to work harder in order to get back to the way I was in 7th grade or 6th grade. By the end of the 1st quarter I want to get to 80 and be able to still do 80 by the end of the year. This is something I know I can work hard on if I try really hard. To improve on this I can do squats, planks, curl ups, or stomach crunches by doing these every week.

For the Push up test I got 5. This is probably another one of my worst push up tests for I think my whole junior high years. I really want to improve on this also and would want to start doing lifting or weights. By the end of mid year I want to get 20 push ups on my test then by the end of the year I want to get maybe 30-40 push ups. This is something I want to focus on more than my curl up test because of how I usually can do 80 curl ups but for my push ups I've never gotten 40 or 30 on it so I want to push myself to become way better. To improve on my push up test I can start by doing things like weights or doing push ups every day.

For my arm hang I got .5 seconds. This is also one of my worst scores on this test, this tells me that I really need to get back into doing these things again. I want to accomplish 4 seconds by either the end of the first quarter or by second quarter. By the end of the year I definitely want to get at least 10 seconds. This is something I know I could work harder on so I will definitely work better on it. I can improve on this by doing pull ups or push ups at least 3 times a week.

For my sit and reach I got 14 for my left and 13 for my right. I am fine for this test but I still think I should improve no matter what. It's always good to improve things. By mid year I would want to get up to maybe 16 for both or somewhere around that. By the end of the year I want to get somewhere near 16 or higher. I know that I have gotten 15 on one of them one of my years in junior high so I know I can get to 16 or higher if I know how hard I gotta work. I can improve on my sit and reach by doing stretches or exercises like the butterfly, the calf stretch, touching your toes or hurtle stretch or doing exercises like squats at least 2 times a week.
