Voted the best wine bar in Los Angeles, 55 Degree Wine Bar is unlike any other place in LA. It is the flawless composition of quintessential neighborhood bar meets rustic Italian bistro. When you first enter, you are greeted by thousands of bottles that may not be the brands that are heavily commercialized; but my friend, you have no idea the dance these wines will do on your taste buds. Word is, the owners and managers travel to Italy to handpick these wines themselves. Although their specialty is Italian wines, they also feature wines from South America, Australia, New Zealand, Portugal and Spain; as well as domestic, Canadian, English, Scottish, French, German, Belgian, and Japanese ales amongst others (over 350 different beers from around the world).

Descending the stairs into the hidden-like cellar makes you feel like you are in on a special secret. The last steps open into the dimly lit tasting room, creating a pristine ambiance to enjoy wine and good company, be it a romantic rendezvous for two or as your “go to” place. No experience is the same, because really, wine is subjective and the Tasting Menu changes weekly as well as the charcuterie that is featured to enhance your tasting experience. To add to the atmosphere, the décor consists of wine barrels and oak tables with stools and simple menus. The staff is thoroughly versed on the wines and is there to share their knowledge and guide you on your trip to far off exotic lands, where these wines are expertly crafted.

It is no surprise people become regulars once they have encountered this gem of a locale. Tuesday – Friday wine tastings start at 6pm and go until 10 pm. On Saturday, start your evening plans early and head to the bar at 5pm for some afternoon wine and food, they stay open until 11 pm and always provide great energy for a Saturday. For a Sunday afternoon of wine, the bar opens from 5pm until 10pm, and to mix it up they have recently added beer tastings on Sundays as well.
