Ever since I was in high school, I have the passion in volunteering in events like this. I was once a member and leader in a youth organization in my church. So when I was invited for a read along program with the deaf I was really delighted because finally I have a chance to volunteer again. Yey!

We were also taught a few sign language. I’ve always wanted to learn a few sign language so I can talk to them even a few sentences. I was so grateful I was invited to join Krispy Kreme’s read along program.

I never experienced to laugh at a joke from a deaf because I can’t understand them. I want to learn more sign language so I can experience laughing with a deaf’s joke some day. This is the type of joy that’s from the heart. A joy that you can never get from that smartphone or tablet of yours. A true gift of joy.

The read along program is one of the immersion programs with the help of Krispy Kreme’s Share the Gift of Joy campaign. Krispy Kreme intends not only to spread joy but to induce change as well.

The read along program is designed to be a two-way education session. The deaf children will learn how to read and improve their vocabularies while their parents and friends that can hear will be able to see how the learning process goes and can learn tips on how they can teach their deaf kid/friend.

During the read along program, we’ve read “Ogost and CJ.” The book was written by a hearing 8 year old kid. The book was a DIY book so each kid can get a copy and join the read along. One of these days I want to help doing the books for the deaf to show my affection for them.

I hope there will be more events like this from Krispy Kreme. I would love to join another event like this. Kudos Krispy Kreme for the Share the Gift of Joy campaign!

I went to a nearby 7-Eleven store near us a while ago since my family are looking for some midnight food trip. Malls are closed so we went to 7-Eleven and I saw the poster above. Every time we grab a “Gulp” our chosen cups for our Gulp will represent our vote. There are three cups. That’s Team Pnoy, UNA and one for the Independent Candidates. So I tried one Gulp. (My vote for the 7-Elections is a secret! Haha!)

If I’m not mistaken every election 7-Eleven has been doing this. It’s a first for me so I’m not really sure. Haha!

I’m actually studying International Trade Law and Economics here at Busan National University South Korea. My Professor once said that one of the economic models of East Asia as well as the South during the post war era particularly in the 1960’s are based on Japan and the Philippines. He added that the Philippines is one of the richest nations next to Japan in that time and also once envied. Having said all these I was actually proud and happy seeing all my classmates of other nationalities looked at me with smiles on their faces. But, what struck me the most is when my professor asked me, WHAT HAPPENED TO YOUR COUNTRY? I couldn’t answer back. From this, I saw the sudden shift of emotions in the class. I went home having this in mind. I was quite puzzled of what really happened.

Then one day, my wife, a Korean national found a documentary about the late Pres. Marcos and his wife Imelda made by a Korean film company. He is actually very famous here in Korea and is known to be a great president.

In the documentary I saw a lot of things I couldn’t imagine happened during those days. I was surprised to see the prosperous and peaceful life the Filipinos back in those days were enjoying. I saw people wearing formal clothes (suits), a clean and magnificent city, happy people walking on the old streets of Manila, thriving communities and places everywhere and many more.

An interesting as well as quite controversial part of the documentary is the part wherein Bong Bong Marcos was interviewed. He was asked, the same question my professor asked me, WHAT HAPPENED TO THIS COUNTRY? He said, “My father loved and cared for this country a lot and my mother as well. While saying this, suddenly he paused with teary eyes and said, “We were betrayed by the Americans”. He believes that his father trusted them but they put him down. He also thinks that they used his mother’s (Imelda) lifestyle to further destroy their reputation. Though he admitted she is living an extravagant life, she also did a lot of accomplishments, Cultural Center of the Philippines, Philippine Heart Center, Lung Center of the Philippines, Kidney Institute of the Philippines, Nayong Pilipino; Philippine International Convention Center, Folk Arts Theater, and the Coconut Palace are all Imeldas’ brainchildren. Nonetheless, all major social and public buildings and institutions in the country today were actually built during the Marcos’s reign.

What inspired me the most is the time when I heard the story of the late president of Korea Park Chung Hee who visited the Philippines ones in the 1960’s. Mr. Marcos and Mr. Chung Hee were believed to be good friends. Pres. Chung Hee and Marcos once visited the Radial Road 8 now called North Luzon Expressway. I heard that Mr. Chung Hee literally cried on Mr. Marcos’ shoulder saying “ I wish my country would be just like the Philippines”. Right after he came back to Korea he started a plan to create expressways similar to what he saw in the Philippines to literally connect the cities all over Korea which were divided by tall mountains. He succeeded on doing this. And, it is said that this move is one of the keys of the Korean economic boom. Unluckily, he was assassinated. Some say that the Americans were behind the assassination.

I know Marcos cared for his country a lot that he wanted to put it on the map. He even bought properties at Wall Street at that time because he wanted the Philippines to be known and dominate the world market. He also initiated a group of powerful south East Asian nations (SEATO) and is believed to have been headed by the Philippines and some countries to strengthen their economic relations further which is also one of the models of economic integrations (G2, G3,G7, ASEAN, and so on) these days. Another international diplomatic accomplishment of Mr. Marcos was the joint effort of Japan and the Philippines to form the Asian Development Bank in 1966 with headquarter in Mandaluyong. Some say that it somewhat became just like the world bank of Asia and its sole purpose is to give foreign aid to poor countries at that time. Unfortunately, the Philippines is the ones receiving aid nowadays.

For me, I think Marcos is the best president the Philippines ever had. During his time the economy was at its peak, unemployment was low, peso against the dollar was at its lowest, poverty rate is not that high (compared today), in short the Philippines was at its finest.

But, not until the West came to realize that the Philippines will grow strong and powerful as time goes. Some say they were afraid it will take over the Wall Street as it already started buying properties and putting up state owned investment firms on its soil. One, thing is for sure, that they should stop this. Then it all began. They had their plan of destroying Marcos’ reputation and putting him down using the media and some manipulated social and political entities whose dark aim is to privatize Mr Marcos’ nationalistic legacies. The sad part is they succeeded.

And, the saddest part is, we were fooled as well.

I don’t normally copy and pastes articles, in fact, I DON’T. But this is something really worth sharing. I was really moved by this. I am not yet alive during his term, but what do I know? What I know about him is just what I’ve read in history books. He was a disciplinarian. Iron hand. Many died during his term. But I also know that our economy was at its best during his term, we don’t have debts in the world bank and if I’m not mistaken, even other countries borrow money from us. We were one of the biggest countries in Asia, something like a Tiger country. I also know that most of the expressways here are built during his term. And this are not “just” expressway, judging by the looks of the expressways you know that it was built without cost cutting thus, you know that the road is safe.. Strong foundation. Most of us hated him because of the people who died during his term.. But can we at least look at the good side? One thing I’m sure of is that “his intention was good.” I hope he can be buried at the “libingan ng mga bayani..” (cemetery for the heroes.)

Honorio “The Rock” Banario will defend the One FC Featherweight World Championship Title Against Koji Oishi!

Bibiano “The Flash” Fernandes will fight with Koetsu Okazaki for the One FC Bantamweight Interim Title.

Last April 10, 2013 I was invited to attend the One FC Press Conference in Midas Hotel to feature “Rise To Power.” One Fighting Championship, in association with Universal Reality Combat (URCC), One FC have returned to the fight capital of Asia, Philippines. It will be on Friday, May 31.

The highly anticipated fighter will be there, the first title defense of our hometown hero, the One FC Featherweight World Champion, Mr. Honorio “The Rock” Banario. In fact, that press conference was the first big time press conference of Mr. Banario. I was so lucky to have a picture with him. Mr. Banario will fight with the Japanese submission specialist, Koji Oishi.

The pound-for-pound king Bibiano “The Flash” Fernandes will also return to the famed One FC cage, and fights with the Japanese Mixed Martial Arts Champion Koetsu Okazaki for the title One FC Bantamweight Interim. And again, I didn’t missed the opportunity to have a picture with Mr. Fernandes. Hah!

The CEO of ONE FC, Mr Victor Cui stated: “One FC will be back in the fight capital of Asia on May 31 with a stacked fight card that is sure to get the adrenaline pumping for the passionate Filipino fight fans. This event could possibly be the largest in One FC’s history and features the top names in MMA, headlined by One FC Featherweight World Champion Honorio Banario. Of course, having one of the greatest fighters on earth fighting on this card in Manila is sure to be a special night for MMA. Bibiano Fernandes always brings his best when he steps into the cage. Close to 20,000 fans will pack out the SM Mall of Asia Arena to witness the greatest sporting spectacle in the world.”

Will there be female fighters, a question for the CEO of One FC, Mr. Victor Cui. According to Mr. Cui, yes there will be female fighters soon. They have been talking about it for a while. 

So what’s the secret of the First Filipino Champion? “Kailangan disiplinaryo ka.” (You must be disciplined.) f”The Rock” answered.

“The Rock” also gave some advice to aspiring to be part of Team Lacay. “Focus. Ang importante ay disiplina.” (What’s important is discipline.)

Last March 14, 2013. I changed how my email subscription widget looks like. Actually, I just edited the message and the option to show the number of subscribers. During that time, I decided to change the message for the convenience of those who will join my giveaway, and that time I only have 10 email subscribers. That was my reason for changing the message. Found this on a very popular Filipino Forum. The Globibo, Globobo, etc bug has been very popular last 2012,  a few months before the year ended. The internet has been around as early as 2011 but only a few people were familiar to this. In my opinion, this became popular when the affordable local Android phones have become popular as well. The “how-to-bug” threads spread through mostly Facebook groups of this local Android phones. Well that’s just my opinion. I’m a member of this groups as well, although some admin of this groups prohibits posting anything related to this Globe Telecom internet bugs. These people were not careful, they don’t know that maybe, because of posting of this on Facebook, a loyal Globe employee or spy may report this to Globe; Globe found out about the bug, finds a way to fix it, but the worse thing that can happen is they can sue you. Forums has been around for a long time, but for me, they are not the one who made this Globe bug so popular. There are threads about the Globe bug since 2011 but Globe only hit the red alert button at the end of 2012, when local Android phones were so popular and the “how-to-bug” Globe bug was easily spread through these groups. It’s just my opinion. To be honest, I’m one of those people who tries to this “bug” but that was because I thought it’s okay since everybody was doing it. Not until my mom called my attention and told me I can get sued for “bugging.“

I’m not siding Globe, nor the buggers. But I’m against the expensive rates for data plans. A student from an average family wouldn’t spend 999 a month for a data plan. I guess what Globe can do to avoid people in finding glitches in their system is at least lower their rates. The best things in life are free but I don’t think using the “Globe bug” is free, I think it’s… stealing. Although not all buggers can be called a thief since some of them, like me, may have thought that it’s okay since everybody is doing it.

What’s worse about this “Globe bug” is some people are trying to take advantage from it. Some people try to offer it as a service. They will ask you to pay or donate to them through load, or others in exchange of bugging your SIM, or some call it butas (hole) SIM. I was really furious about this, not because I’m envious about them earning, but because they are trying to take advantage from people who are “ignorant” about the bug. People availing their service sometimes do not know that they are availing it from a bug but most of the times they know that they are availing a bug from Globe’s service. It’s bearable if they use it for themselves, but if they bug to earn from it, well, I don’t think that’s acceptable anymore.

Anyhow, I just hope these people won’t be sued and I hope they could at least be given a second chance. This post is a wake up call to buggers. 

Globe Telecom Inc., And Subsidiaries on
Recent Exploits on its Network Infrastracture
Amidst of this year 2012, Globe has received numerous reports regarding an exploit in our
system. The said exploit, has been known to be abused by users in order to access the internet
for free through Globe Telecom’s network infrastracture, resulting into subsequent loss in the
revenues of Globe Telecom, and its Subsidiaries.

Globe Telecom and Use of Intel Firms
In a certain document, three data intelligence companies outline a plan to track the source of
exploits in Globe Telecom’s network infrastracture, and at the same time also acting upon
request on certain law firms in regards with tracking the users who’ve abused the exploit – as
per record confirmed on a certain user’s account. The prosed actions according to the slides
include these actions:
Create concern over the security of the infrastructure.
Identification and patching routine of existing and future flaws over Globe Telecom’s
network infrastracture is subject for change.
Search for leaks. Use social media to profile and identify risky behavior of users.
A certain set of people from the intel firms are now assigned for identifying the sources
of such exploits.
Skimming through logs for user’s accountability.
Logs/Records is currently held and now being analyzed for instances of exploitation
throughout the user’s network access through this year 2012. Log from several services offered
by Globe Telecom, like Globe SMS and G-Cash are also queued.
Continuous surveilance on users of exploit, with or without consent.
The said records are subject for confirmation, whereas currently over 300,000 plausible
entries are now being forwarded for log skimming
