Today the iPad was officially launched in China and there were thousands of people lined up at the at the four Apple stores. The Beijing store had at least 500 people in line at 4 A.M. and when the store opened at 8 A.M. there were more than 1000 people waiting for their iPad 2. After 4 hours the stock was down to zero and even after a short time the online order was displaying no stock for the Chinese.

This doesn’t surprise us at all and actually makes us a little disgruntled. Here in the States the supply is still short and you can’t just run out to any store and get an iPad 2 of your choice. I understand Apple has to get product to other countries but at least get your home country supplied up really good before you take a ton of product every where else. Just our two cents.

Well first off let us say hello, and its good to be back after a long break. Today there was quite a bit going on in the tech world but one of the biggest things was, Samsung had a small event today and announced a new phone for AT&T called the Infuse 4G. First off let us say wow, is this thing huge? One of the largest phone displays to date coming in at 4.5 inches (480×800).

The display is Samsung’s infamous Super AMOLED and we are sure it makes the device quite big. They have really thinned the phone down from others in the market, coming in at 8.9 mm to 9.24mm thin. Other than the huge display lets get into the other specs, the processor aboard is a 1.2 GHz processor, an 8MP camera on back that is capable of 720p video, and a 1.3MP front facing camera.

The 4G is supported by HSDPA CAT 14 and HSUPA CAT 6 from what AT&T is claiming their 4G network,(we won’t get into all that on this post). What is really disappointing is, it’s being released with Android 2.2 and Samsung’s not so great TouchWiz on top of it. You would think we could get some Gingerbread love on the newer devices by now. Either way, this device looks like it will be a heavy hitter in the AT&T stores and will make the iPhone display look like a midget side by side. We look forward to getting to check it out. We have known that Sprint has had an announcement planned for a while now, but were not sure what they have been hiding. 3D phone had been mentioned several times and the hype was building that something big was coming. It is not 3D people, it is a dual-screen phone that is made by Kyocera. Yes, I said Kyocera, the Kyocera Echo is it’s whole name, to be exact.

This dual-screen phone has a 1GHz next-gen Snapdragon processor with two screens. The screens are 3.5 inch displays with a resolution of (800×480) and the device can be flipped out to make a 4.7 inch dual screen tablet or the hinge will let it act as a mini laptop. Kyocera has some special hinge with Liquid Metal technology but by the looks of the videos, we are not impressed. It has Android 2.2 running it and has some custom software built in for the dual-screen action. Hopefully this thing has a super battery to be able to stay charged for most of the day.

Kudos to Kyocera for trying to innovate, but we would like to know, is this really practical for a phone and is it something that consumers even want? Most people get slider phones because they want a physical keyboard instead of a virtual keyboard, but this is a whole new take on slider phones. Either way, we like how cool it looks and maybe this puts thoughts into other companies to come up with some new technology instead of the solid slab devices of today. What do you think?

Today Google had an event that they announced last week, to show us some live displays of Honeycomb and what to expect in the newest update in the operating system for tablets. The UI ran very snappy on the Motorola Xoom’s they were using for the presentations and they have put a lot of work into this latest operating system.

The tablet experience looks really good and the 3D graphics that Google has integrated into Honeycomb has upped the bar when compared to it’s competition. When watching the device being used it is very advanced and it is clear that Google is learning how to make a top notch operating system. To check out the presentation from today click here.

Moving along to more of a shocker announcement was the web Android App Store. You can browse to market.android.com to look and browse all the Android Apps there are. Not only can you browse them, if you log in to your Google account you can install an app right from the web to your phone. Easy as clicking the install button and then looking at your phone to watch the app install.

Hopefully this will cure some of the issues that Google has had with browsing the market and having trouble finding certain apps. Either way, how could you not like this feature? Google also announced in-app purchases for developers to take advantage of, and hopefully this will allow the platform to keep growing by giving the developers more push to develop better apps. It is great to see more additions coming from Google and they are heading in the right direction.

At CES we got to meet the GelaSkins group this year, and we are really liking what they are developing for the newest products. We were able to get one sent out from them for the new 11 inch MacBook Air and are going to give you some details about the skin in use.

They have skins for everything from iPads, Playstation Controllers, to Guitar Hero Guitars. These skins are very durable and will not leave a residue on your device after you stick them on. One of the coolest thing about them to us, is the fact that they can be removed easily and reapplied without any problem.

When we installed ours on the 11 inch MacBook Air we peeled it off then held it closely to the Computer to line it up, then stuck it in the middle. We slowly rubbed in a line motion all the way up, and down the device and it went on without an bubbles or imperfections. The cut was also a perfect fit. Another very cool thing is that you can still see the imprint of the Apple logo when the skin is on the MacBook.

The Skin is very durable, protects your device very well and does not come off with normal day use. We give GelaSkins 2 thumbs up for their skins and would advise anyone who was interested in a skin like this, to go and check out their designs and see if they have one available for your device. We got to see a preview of Honeycomb earlier this week with the SDK released by Google and now they have announced an event on February 2nd to shed some more light on the future. The latest question is, will Honeycomb be a tablet only operating system or will it be available on phones also, and will it be changed up if it is on the phone?

We do not doubt that Google will answer some of these questions and inform us on more details about when some devices will be available running Honeycomb. We think the coolest thing about this event is, if you did not get an invite to attend it, they will stream the event live at YouTube.com/Android for everyone’s viewing pleasure. Hopefully the servers will stay up and allow everyone to watch. The event will be at 10AM PDT, check out the preview below on their YouTube Channel.

Sony has had a lot of talk lately with their talk about the latest Playstation Phone coming and they have officially announced Playstation Suite which will be available on all Android Devices 2.3 and up. The Suite will consist of a Gaming Platform and a Store to purchase the games.

At the beginning the Suite will have an emulator that will allow you to play first generation Playstation games on an Android phone and then a new the gaming platform and store are in the works to follow. On devices that do not have hardware buttons to play the games, there will be on screen virtual buttons to take the place of physical buttons. It sounds like Sony is heading in the right direction with the platform, keeping it off one device and allowing several Android devices to play the games is a great strategy.

They are up against Apple and Microsoft with their mobile phone gaming platforms and it just might help Android out in the gaming department. We can’t wait to get to try out some of these games on our Android handset.

Simultaneously Launching “PlayStation®Certified” License Program to Provide PlayStation® Content and Development Support for Android™ Based Portable Devices

Tokyo, January 27, 2011– Sony Computer Entertainment Inc. (SCE) today unveiled “PlayStation®Suite” (PS Suite), delivering the PlayStation® experience to Android™ based portable devices*1. Through this entirely new initiative, users will be able to enjoy PlayStation content on an open operating system for the first time in PlayStation history. In the dramatically evolving and diversifying mobile market, the number of users who enjoy games casually on a variety of devices including mobile phones, smart-phones and tablet PCs, has been increasing significantly. By offering “PlayStation quality” content to this rapidly growing market, SCE will not only deliver the PlayStation experience to a wider base of users around the globe, but will also be able to offer game developers and publishers the potential to further expand their business opportunities to these devices.

In providing the PlayStation experience on Android based portable devices, SCE will commence a “PlayStation®Certified” license program for hardware manufacturers. Through this program, SCE will offer necessary support, including development support as well as logo licensing, to ensure the delivery of PlayStation quality experience across various devices.

On the software front, SCE plans to provide PS Suite content within this calendar year, starting with original PlayStation games*2 (PS one® classics) that will allow users to enjoy “PlayStation quality” gameplay on their Android based portable devices. SCE also plans to open PlayStation®Store where users will be able to download content in an easy to use environment, directly via the Android based portable devices. Moreover, SCE will provide a new game development environment in an effort to ensure new and compelling content is delivered on PS Suite, which will also offer opportunities for a wider base of developers and publishers to further expand their business on various portable devices.

Newly developed content for PS Suite can also be enjoyed on the next generation portable entertainment system (codename: NGP), which SCE announced today. Users who have never experienced PlayStation content can get a taste of the PlayStation experience through PS Suite and from there, they can enjoy the ultimate portable entertainment experience that is only possible on NGP.

SCE will vigorously enhance the entertainment world delivering the PlayStation experience to a wider base of users.
