Internet Video Isn't Dead

Social conversation has taken the place of Internet TV shows as the prime driver for video. Sites like Magnify.net, Seesmic, Utterz, and other places promoting Internet video as "conversation" are suddenly important and interesting. Different than our original plans, but definitely of note.

Sorry for that weird crunch sound. Not sure where that came from.<img src="http://feeds.feedburner.com/~r/attentionupgrade/~4/krFycHG9SF0" height="1" width="1"/>

Today, we talk about charitable giving, to http://frozenpeafun.com , to http://laptopgiving.org, and also we point you to http://grasshoppers.ning.com, a social network that points out ways to be helpful. Finally, if you're a twitter user, add @SantaCause, to hear about all the great charitable causes out there.

Why do we just have a mouse still? Why are we simply clicking? There are many more gestures and body parts and bits we can get into the game. Why isn't the future of interface here already?

No, not Microsoft Surface.

Too many things have had my attention, and I'm skimming too many things. How do we manage all the various social networks and platforms we're spending time on? I'm finding that there's too much skimming and not enough going deep. (Don't be dirty).

What are YOUR ways of dealing with this?<img src="http://feeds.feedburner.com/~r/attentionupgrade/~4/4i7CmnnvYt4" height="1" width="1"/>

Thinking about job hunting, and which tools can be used for this. I had a great conversation with someone asking me what tools people are using for finding jobs, and I said that folks are using LinkedIN, Facebook, Twitter, and other social networks to start, instead of the more traditional Monster.com. I'm working on a new project that once it works out, I'll share the guts and nuts of how we did it. Working on how to use a small network of friends to bubble up the most interesting information you need instead of sifting through blog after blog after blog. Could we all take a bite of the pie and make the information come faster/easier/smoother? That's the plan.

I want data to move more freely between sites and applications. Why is it I have to fill out forms over and over and over again. Yes, I understand the OpenID project, but why isn't this a business tool, too? How come my employers can't just transfer a file and know who I am, where I bank, how I like my exemptions, etc? Crazy.<img src="http://feeds.feedburner.com/~r/attentionupgrade/~4/R2b-PMuwZCA" height="1" width="1"/>

YouTube is My Kids TV

My family is in the background watching YouTube. Not TV. They're finding things they think are funny and they're having a hell of a time with it. No TV network involved.

I'm saying that there's a value to having an attention aggregator or curator, and that provided we find a way to share the revenue with all the people involved in creating good stuff, I think there's something there still. (Not officially shilling for Magnify.net, but this is their model at present: finding the good stuff and letting you curate it).

Once we find a way to compensate creators along the way, it might prove to be a good model.

Social Graph vs Social Network

<a href="http://attentionupgrade.magnify.net/video/Social-Graph-vs-Social-Networ"><img src="http://s3.amazonaws.com/magnifythumbs/G7NSNLQ72L6B2H8F.jpg" align="right" border="0"></a>
Thinking about this term "social graph," partly because of an article by Tim Berners Lee (getting the hell linked out of it), and because Stowe Boyd over at /Message was saying that he's wearing down on NOT using the term, because people are showing good reasons to use it.

My take: social graph is all the meaning and the guts of information. Social network is the container. Meaning, what MATTERS is the graph not the container. Right? Who knows.

I blogged a bit about it <a href="http://chrisbrogan.com/how-information-will-move/">here</a>.<img src="http://feeds.feedburner.com/~r/attentionupgrade/~4/Q0_mxEAasmM" height="1" width="1"/>

I want better mobile access to the Internet. Seems like media is the biggest hole in the process right now. I can't watch YouTube on my BlackBerry Curve (yes, I've heard of the iPhone). I want something that feels a lot more mobile and usable.

Why are all the business models advertising? Why can't we have OTHER ways to make money off web apps and this new world of ours? How ELSE can we make money?

This episode has me looking all over the place. That's because I'm reading off my laptop screen instead of staring into the camera.

Wherein which I tell why I don't really like the idea of the Amazon Kindle book reader. I don't like the Sony book reader either. I like gadgets, and have plenty, but I just can't see wanting yet another gadget for this. I read books in paper, sometimes online, and often times in audio.

What IS the right solution? Not sure. Do I need this solved? Well, I probably wouldn't have thought I needed an iPod, until someone showed me how to get hundreds of CDs in one tiny rectangle. I get that, at least.
