BROKEN HILL has scooped some significant awards off shore at The Accolade Competition (a California-based indie film competition).

BROKEN HILL won Two Awards of Excellence and Three Awards of Merit…

The Awards of Excellence were in the following categories:

AWARD OF EXCELLENCE: ORIGINAL SCORE (Chris Brady)

AWARD OF EXCELLENCE: SOUND EDITING/MIXING (Audioloc)

SYNOPSIS -

In the tradition of Save The Last Dance, Billy Elliott and August Rush comes the musical drama Broken Hill. Tommy was born and raised on a rocky, drought-ridden sheep station in the middle of the Australian Outback. He works at the station and does all he can to appease his demanding father but in his heart wants to be a great musician. That all changes when Tommy meets his new classmate Kat, a bold and brash beauty, who at first doesnt notice him at all. As Tommy tries desperately to get her attention his antics cause him to fall into hot water with the local police. He luckily escapes jail and chooses to do community service at the nearby prison to stay out of trouble. Soon the stakes for Tommy are raised when his music teacher and mentor lands him an audition for the elite music conservatorium. Against all odds, Tommy gains the affections of Kat, finds a way to reconcile with his father and conducts the concert of his life.

Broken Hill to be released on 70 screens Nationwide in the US

Broken Hill has been selected as the gala feature film event of the TriMedia Film Festival in Colorado, USA. The festival will run Friday, Sept. 11, through Sunday, Sept. 13, at various venues around Fort Collins. It will showcase more than 50 independent film, television and theatrical pieces from local, national and international artists. The film is also slated for a Sept 11 release on 70 screens nationwide in the US. Luke Arnold stars as Tommy McAlpine and Alexa Vega stars as Kat Rogers in the film.

Bright Star in Cinemas Now

Bright Star opened overseas in cinemas on September 18.
Written and directed by Academy Award winner Jane Campion, Bright Star is based on the three-year romance between 19th century poet John Keats and Fanny Brawne, which was cut short by Keats’ untimely death at age 25.
Ben Whishaw (The International, I’m Not There) and Abbie Cornish (Stop-Loss, Elizabeth: The Golden Age) star as John Keats and Fanny Brawne.

Cedar Boys to be distributed by Hoyts

“Mushroom Pictures has inked a deal with Hoyts Distribution for the upcoming July release of its Australian-Lebanese drama Cedar Boys.
The deal comes on the back of news that the film has sold out its two world premiere screenings at the 56th Sydney Film Festival next month.”

Bright Star a hit at Cannes

Following it’s world premiere at Cannes, Jane Campion’s film Bright Star has sold to Atlantic Film for Scandinavia, SSG for Taiwan, Babilla for Colombia, Phars for the Middle East, PT Camila for Indonesia, Golden Village for Singapore and Myndform for Iceland.

It also sold Spanish rights to Vertigo. Bright Star was acquired for the US prior to the festival by Bill Pohlad and Bob Berney’s as yet unnamed new distribution venture. The film is now virtually sold out internationally.

Bright Star, the new film from Jane Campion starring Abbie Cornish and Ben Whishaw, has been selected for the Official Competition and is the first Australian film to be included in the Official Competition since since Baz Luhrmann’s Moulin Rouge in 2001.
