It’s our final day in Jerusalem. We’ll leave about 3 am for the airport to fly to Vienna where we’ll rendezvous with Mike’s bro. Each of our recent visits to the tribe in Israel has been marked by decreasing sight-seeing and increased hang out time getting to know the kids.
This time we’ve been discovering new neighborhoods in anticipation of a move in a few months. Cost of homes here is extremely high. We couldn’t imagine purchasing the flat we’re renting. Makes Fishers,IN a bargain!
What have we experienced since we came? We took part in a family holiday party, went back to St. Andrew’s Church, made our way through the old city to make a couple of purchases, enjoyed some lunches out, introduced four little children to their first piano lessons, read a lovely chapter book to the older three, played at the park, and enjoyed some long hikes.
Have great admiration for our daughter as she balances her work as an editor with being mommy 24/7. We’ll hug everyone tonight after dinner knowing we’ll skype til we see them again plus the infant grandson in early autumn.
Shalom from Jerusalem.

In my heart I am singing a beautiful responsorial psalm tune that I began singing long ago to Psalm 104, the premier psalm for Pentecost. This glorious psalm extols the blessings of God in nature. God creates and God provides. We humbly realize that whatever we do in cooperation with the divine purpose comes from the Holy One.

v. 27: (All) look to you to give them their food in due season;

v. 28: when you give it to them, they gather it up; when you open your hand, they are filled with good things…

v.30: When you send forth your spirit, they are created; and you renew the face of the earth.

Fifty days since celebrating the Resurrection, the disciples were consoled by the “advocate” Jesus promised. The Spirit of God became recognizable in their lives as the lasting presence of Christ Jesus. May each of us experience the Holy Spirit in our lives

Come Holy Spiri, Come. Continue to pour forth your love upon all the children of God.

Despite a late start, the crowding, a disturbed passenger, not attentive service (wrong meal, passed by for morning coffee), I consider a flight that eventually takes off and and lands safely a successful flight. Twenty hours of travel does tire one. We did spend a little time at our apartment before we geared up to meet the kids at school.
They were very excited and we enjoyed hanging out and playing.
Of course, they are eager for the surprises we bring.
Our daughter halfway through her sixth and final (so she says) pregnancy, is energetic and strong.
Today we checked out some homes in an attractive neighborhood. They’ll be making big decisions involving a move and a nine passenger vehicle.
In the coming days there are special events at the school and with the extended family. It’s very special time to drink in the love of a granddaughter who climbs into your lap to watch a movie or a bunch who gather to hear a story. We may go to the beach, but I have a feeling we’ll be doing a lot around their place. They’ll be having their first piano lessons. My last stop before leaving was to get a couple of piano books. I’ll at least teach them an octave of notes. Maybe we can learn an “octave” worth of Hebrew letters.

The Easter Season is drawing to a close. Yes, it has been a season of several weeks not a one day observance. The post-resurrection events told in the scriptures are far too intense to unpack in just one day. We’ve taken six Sundays to ponder the stories and the mystery of the one who entered into a contract with God and with us to create a new mode of living.

While many will be observing Ascension Sunday, Mike and I will be taking flight over the “pond” to visit our daughter and our many grands in the Holy Land. Hopefully we’ll visit the church that offered hospitality last year.

Just as Jesus taught the disciples he encountered on the way to Emmaus, or on the beach, he gave them one last teaching as he led them to Bethany, the home of his beloved friends Mary, Martha, and Lazarus. There, according to Luke’s gospel, he concluded his appearances, he blessed them and left them. Luke’s gospel ends on a high note . The disciples returned joyfully to Jerusalem and remained connected with God in prayer. The Ascension is a feast of joy, though it was hard dot let go. Of course, we cannot really know exactly what happened on that day, but the disciples were spiritually uplifted (pardon the pun). they received the energy they needed to carry on their remarkable mission beyond Jerusalem and the Galilee. Hoe did they accomplish so much? Enjoy the fascinating stories of the early church in Luke’s sequel, The Acts of the Apostles.

Today is a milestone. On my remarkable 4 gig USB drive is the complete text and all the illustrations for my new book – Sleuthing the Truth in the Media. Amazing as it seems all of the data sits quite comfortably in this two-inch object.

Today I willingly surrendered my magnum opus to the expertiise of the Indianapolis Business Journal book publishing staff for layout and cover design. Not too long from now I’ll have a proof and finally a print and an e-book version.

None of the name brand publishers I queried chose to consider Sleuthing the Truth in the near future, though several wished me well with very gracious rejection letters. But perhaps the best response wasn’t elegant at all. instead it was brutally honest. It started out rather matter-of-factly, suggesting that if they wanted a book on my topic they’d publish one by a “recognized expert”, a “famous person,” who speaks to audiences weekly. (Translation! Recognized, already well-known author who doesn’t need the publisher to sell books – publishers don’t do that!) I got the message loud and clear.

So I’m preparing to line up speaking engagements and book-signings in the fall to promote a topic I believe in -learning to discover how to tell what is true and what is deceptive in the media. That’s why I spent all that time working so hard on the project. And I’m not the only one. Many, many thanks to Dr. Jackie Rankin for all the editing hours as well as for all the very productive arguments we had in striving for something good!

Please think about some suggestions as to where I might engage with audiences and speak about my book and pass them on to me.
