If Sandra Bullock beats Meryl Streep to win the Academy Award for Best Actress tonight, she’ll make history, because in addition to being nominated for Oscar honors for her turn in the football drama The Blind Side, she also earned a nomination — from the Golden Raspberry Award Foundation — for Worst Actress of the year for starring in the abysmally-received comedy All About Steve. Last night in Hollywood, the classy actress actually showed up to receive her Razzie award, and she came bearing gifts.

Bullock, ever the good sport about being “honored,” teased the crowd in attendance, all of whom she guessed hadn’t actually seen All About Steve (which she also produced). During her acceptance speech (“I didn’t realize that in Hollywood that all you have to do is say you’ll show up and you’ll get [the award]. If I had known that, I would have said I was appearing at the Oscars a long time ago”), Bullock exacted a revenge of sorts when she carted out a wagon full of All About Steve DVDs to give to the audience.

Singer, songwriter and multi-instrumentalist Mark Linkous has committed suicide, his publicist confirms to Rolling Stone. Best known for his acclaimed work with Sparklehorse, who released four albums of imaginative ambient psych-folk, Linkous also produced Daniel Johnston’s 2003 album Fear Yourself and collaborated with Danger Mouse on Dark Night of the Soul. His exact age is unknown, but he was in his forties. “It is with great sadness that we share the news that our dear friend and family member, Mark Linkous, took his own life today,” reads a statement from his family. “We are thankful for his time with us and will hold him forever in our hearts. May his journey be peaceful, happy and free. There’s a heaven and there’s a star for you.”

Linkous’ dramatic, lush music often came from a place of pain. In 1996, Linkous actually died for two minutes after ingesting a dangerous mix of Valium and antidepressants while on tour in the U.K. behind Sparklehorse’s 1995 debut Vivadixiesubmarinetransmissionplot. He recovered, but the incident left him crippled — he laid unconscious for 14 hours, cutting off circulation to his legs. He suffered a heart attack when medics attempted to straighten his legs, and underwent seven surgeries to save his damaged limbs. But after the incident, he recorded 1999’s Good Morning Spider, 2001’s It’s A Wonderful Life and 2006’s Dreamt for Light Years in the Belly of a Mountain. “For a while there, I was really scared that when I technically died — which I guess I did for a few minutes — that the part of my brain that allowed me my ability to write songs would be damaged,” he told Rolling Stone in 1999.

Linkous most recently teamed up with Danger Mouse and director David Lynch on Dark Night of the Soul, a multimedia project that was tied up in legal issues with EMI; just this past week, Danger Mouse and the label resolved their dispute and agreed to let the album come out as it was originally intended. The last time Linkous spoke with RS in July 2009, he explained how after he and Danger Mouse worked together on Dreamt For Light Years in the Belly of a Mountain, he brought the producer an instrumental track called “Revolution.” “I just couldn’t sing it,” Linkous told Rolling Stone, “and I thought that it should be an anti-war song, but I’m not that good at writing literal lyrics.” Gruff Rhys from Super Furry Animals added lyrics and vocals and the song, retitled “Just War,” kicks off Dark Night of the Soul. “That was the egg for the entire project,” Linkous said.

Linkous’ publicist confirms he was nearly finished with a new album that was due on Anti- Records.

With all eyes on stylish first-time nominee Carey Mulligan tomorrow night, the pressure is on for the British star to pick just the right dress. And even with advice from the likes of Anna Wintour, Mulligan still hadn’t found her dress as of a few weeks ago. But when we spoke with the star at a Diamond Information Center luncheon in her honor on Friday in Los Angeles, Mulligan confirmed that she has indeed found her perfect gown. “It’s kind of long. It’s crazy. But it is kind of crazy but classic at the same time,” Mulligan tells PEOPLE. “It sort of fulfills all my 12 [year-old] girlie dreams about wearing the classic dress. But it’s got a twist!” Sporting Everlon knot diamond earrings by Fred Leighton with her Bottega Veneta dress, Mulligan teases, “I will be rocking some diamonds.” But lest we all get visions of over-the-top bling in our heads, she clarifies that her picks are “not crazy. Reality-TV personality Bethenny Frankel may claim that she doesn’t have the key to maternity chic, but the Real Housewives of New York City star, who is expecting her first child with fiancé Jason Hoppy, does confess to leaning towards a certain style. “I’m sort of developing one. b. Approximate Retail Value (“ARV”) of Prizes: $229. Actual retail value of the Prize may vary. If the prize includes travel and winner cannot travel on the dates required to attend the Event, winner will forfeit the Prize in its entirety and Sponsor may, at its option, either select a second place winner in his or her place or be relieved of liability for fulfillment of the Prize. Winner is responsible for any expenses not expressly included in the Prize description, such as additional ground transportation expenses, incidentals, meals, beverages and any other expenses.

c. Certain restrictions and blackout dates may apply. Sponsor reserves the right to substitute a prize of equal or greater value.

4. General:
a. Employees, directors and officers of Sponsor, its parents, affiliates, subsidiaries, advertising or promotional agencies, and their immediate family members and/or those living in same household are not eligible.

b. No substitution or transfer of prize permitted except as provided herein. Prizes are non-redeemable for cash. In the event of unavailability, Sponsor may substitute a prize of greater or equal value.

c. All federal/state/local taxes are the sole responsibility of the winner, who will receive an IRS Form 1099 reflecting the final actual value of any prize valued at $600 or more. Consult with your tax professional regarding potential tax implications.

d. Potential finalists must execute Affidavit of Eligibility/Release of Liability Form(s) within 10 days of notification. In this week’s Flashback, we present not one but two fantastically lip-synched performances by one of the most underrated bands of the ’80s, Talk Talk. With all the reunions revving up, from Public Image Ltd. to Faith No More to Devo, we keep hoping that Mark Hollis and crew will get back together for the first time since 1991’s Laughing Stock, but with Hollis gone underground in recent years, it seems unlikely. Up top is Talk Talk’s mouthed performance of “Life What’s You Make It” from a 1986 Top of the Pops, while after the jump we have Talk Talk’s last television appearance, a lip-synched, edited version of the Spirit of Eden classic “I Believe in You.” And to the festival that somehow coaxes these guys out of retirement, consider us your first ticket buyers.

In 2006, members of Snoop’s entourage got into an altercation with border guards, and Snoop was arrested in the process. After plotting a tour of the U.K. with Diddy in 2007, Snoop was denied a travel visa. The ruling to ban Snoop from England was overturned in 2008, but the Border Agency continued to contest the MC’s entry over safety concerns. As Rolling Stone also reported around this time, Snoop was banned from Australia after failing a strict character test. Almost immediately following the Heathrow Airport incident, the international trouble-making Snoop was busted in Stockholm, Sweden on suspicion of drug use.

Jeff Buckley’s music may be joining the Who and Green Day on Broadway thanks to a new show that fuses his songs with William Shakespeare’s Romeo and Juliet. The Last Goodbye was first conceived three years ago by Michael Kimmel, a New York director and theater professor who started up the project when he noticed how uncannily well Buckley’s lyrics accented the Bard’s language. With approval from Buckley’s estate, Kimmel created a musical using “New Year’s Prayer,” “So Real” and “Eternal Life” and other songs from the singer-songwriter’s catalog to further the classic play’s tale of ill-fated love.

Look back at more rockers lost before their time.

“Jeff’s music takes this idea of young emotion and passion to an entirely different level that we haven’t seen with the play before,” Kimmel explains. “What I love about the show is that it’s this great merging of a really strong writer and an amazing musician.” After well-received concert readings in New York last spring, Kimmel and his creative team are finalizing plans for a regional staging later this year. Interest from commercial producers has sparked hope for a Broadway transfer during the 2010-2011 season, but Kimmel isn’t planning too far ahead: “All the attention the piece has gotten has been really exciting, but for us, it’s about getting it right.”

Once Sam Raimi was unceremoniously booted from Spider-Man 4 along with the cast and crew, speculation was rampant as to what he would direct next. World of Warcraft? What about The Shadow? He’s wanted to do that for a long, long time and as of last January, it was chugging along quite nicely. Whatever he picked, we were rooting for him. But now The Shadow has vanished into the darkness, as Variety reports that Sony has let the rights lapse. It’s hard not to read into this and see it as evidence of bad blood between Sony and Raimi. I don’t want to jump to gossipy conclusions, but if things were good, wouldn’t you at least agree to be friends and make The Shadow together?

Raimi’s reps at CAA are now shopping The Shadow rights around town, and Raimi is still attached as a producer. So at least he gets to keep his pet pulp, even if it’s standing on shaky ground. Not only does it delay a possible film, but it could all land in some uncompromising hands. One of the interested parties is 20th Century Fox. Latino Review says they’ve already purchased The Shadow and may have set David Slade to direct, while Variety is merely reporting Fox as “interested.”

Slade and Raimi go way back (30 Days of Night) so it makes sense that Raimi would offer the chair to an old friend. But I was hoping he’d step into the director’s chair for a little noir before heading into Warcraft. At least we know that’s likely to be his next director’s outing by sheer default. Yes sir, things have changed and it’s a new day in Hollywood. Gone are the $20 million pay-days and even the top of the A-list are taking the hit (unless you’re Angelina Jolie). In an article in the NYT, they took a look at the declining paychecks of Hollywood’s biggest stars and the new financial model that has swept the movie factory: CB zero (which stands for cash-break zero). It’s a departure from the previous set up which had stars taking a reduced paycheck for “a percentage of …first-dollar gross receipts; that is, they began sharing in the profits from the first ticket sale, not waiting until the studio turned a profit.” But the new deal is a little different because, now, stars won’t see a dime beyond their paycheck until the film breaks even.

According to experts (who remained anonymous), the reason for the change is that a big name just doesn’t pull in the crowds like it used to. Plus, the all important 18-34 demographic just isn’t that interested in the Hollywood A-list anymore. When you take a look at most of this years’ Oscar nominations, smaller films and previously unheard of actors like Gabourey Sidibe (Precious) and Jeremy Renner from The Hurt Locker (who both worked for at or near guild minimums: $65,000, with negotiable overtime with some food and mandatory breaks) are competing alongside big names like George Clooney and Meryl Streep, who also took pay cuts, because according to the NYT, “[when] the estimated salaries of all 10 of the top acting nominees are combined, the total is only a little larger than the $20 million.”
