Aperture - AMOA Art School expands 3/15/08, 12-3 PM (free event)

As you may have heard, we are in the midst of an exciting expansion project at AMOA-Laguna Gloria. Our latest expansion efforts will offer some incredible benefits to you next month, including the creation of two new art school studios, a renovated children's studio, a visitors' center that features new gallery space for faculty and student work, a place to sit and sip coffee with one of the best views in town, and even a modest store where you can purchase art supplies and gifts!

AMOA's signature exhibition is finally here.New Art in Austin: 20 to Watch focuses on emerging artists who reside within a fifty-mile radius of the capitol. The artists’ “fingerprints” forge bold new stamps upon such classic themes as addressing issues of identity and displacement, exploring personal narratives, manipulating found objects, and looking from the digital world back to the natural world.

Jordan D. Schnitzer shares his insight into the life and work of the artist Roy Lichtenstein and collecting art.

For nearly twenty years, Jordan D. Schnitzer, President of Harsch Investment Properties, has assembled a major collection of contemporary prints that currently numbers around 3,000. The question is what does one do with such an enormous body of works, many of them large in scale? Schnitzer says the collection is not meant to hang in a single museum or hide in storage, but rather to be shown around the West and made available for education and the enjoyment of as many people as possible. Come hear about the collector's passion for the art of Lichtenstein.

Reception for Anna Lappé who will read from her her second book, Grub: Ideas for an Urban Organic Kitchen, (Tarcher/Penguin 2006 with chef Bryant Terry and a foreword by Eric Schlosser) and talk about the Local Food Movement.

Called ingenious by The New York Times, Grub offers an exposé on industrial food and chemical agriculture along with hands-on tools and menus to create healthier lives. In addition to meeting Anna and having a book signed, you can sample:

All-organic, all-locally sourced food prepared by Melanie McAfee (owner of Barr Mansion) from recipes in Anna's book
Wine from Hill Country Vineyards
Maine Root's all-organic free-range Prickly Pear Cactus Fruit lemonade
