Up front, the forward-slanting BMW kidney grille and large headlight assembly combine with a powerful-looking front apron and hood boasting six contour lines sweeping down to meet at the kidney grill, giving the X3 a bold presence. The twin round headlights combined with the round fog lamps form the triangular light pattern that is characteristic of BMW SAV design. The upper edge of the headlight assembly sports an accentuating chrome trim, creating the focused design typical of BMW vehicles. BMW’s signature “Corona Rings” are again illuminated to function as the daytime running lights. When equipped with the optional Xenon headlights, the Corona Rings and daytime running lights are illuminated by bright white LEDs.

The profile of the new BMW X3 is also characterized by a unique interpretation of typical BMW X design features. Faster shifts are a further benefit because only one clutch pack is disengaged to shift up or down by one or two gears. On the other hand, downshifting more than two gears is accomplished as a direct shift. For example, a downshift from 8th to 2nd gear is made with only one clutch pack disengagement, and thus occurs without stepping down through the intermediate gears. So, at one instant the driver can be enjoying the quiet, fuel-efficient low rpm of 8th gear, and in the next instant getting maximum acceleration.

New suspension, xDrive intelligent all-wheel drive, and made-to-measure dynamics.

The new BMW X3 features standard xDrive intelligent all-wheel drive. Now in its third generation, BMW xDrive has been revised to incorporate even more flexibility, quicker response and improved handling characteristics. The new system marks a significant evolution in xDrive capabilities, which has always depended upon a networking of Dynamic Stability Control and the xDrive system. With the overall Integrated Chassis Management system, all three control circuits work in parallel. This refined interaction achieves even quicker reactions to changing driving conditions and enhances xDrive’s already outstanding handling dynamics.

BMW xDrive is unique in design and construction. In normal conditions, driving torque is always transmitted to the rear wheels, and most of the time to all four wheels. Normal torque split is 40% front/60% rear. The portion of torque transmitted to the front wheels is controlled by a multi-disc clutch that can be fully open (100% to the rear), fully engaged or at any level of partial engagement in between. The torque split between rear and front wheels is thus steplessly variable. Engagement pressure on the multi-disc clutch is directed by an electronic control system in response to actual road and driving conditions. This gives xDrive a dynamic ability that is unparalleled by other all-wheel drive systems.

The new BMW X3 also features completely redeveloped suspension technology. The combination of a double-joint spring-strut suspension at the front and a multi-link rear suspension provides the foundation for agility and driving comfort. The standard Servotronic speed-sensitive power steering contributes to the X3′s precise handling.

The X3′s optional Electronic Damping Control adjusts the shock absorbers to any level of firmness, quickly adapting to road conditions and the driver’s demands.. Suspension control is always optimum for current road conditions, vehicle speed, and load. The shocks default to the softest appropriate setting for the vehicle’s speed, and when the vehicle encounters an irregular road surface, they adjust instantaneously to control ride motions, preserve ride comfort, and maintain adhesion to the road. The system is so fast that even at highway speeds the system can sense a pothole at a front wheel and adjust rear-wheel damping before it reaches the same pothole. The Electronic Damping Control option includes a new Performance Control feature on the X3. Performance Control helps the X3 maintain a neutral handling character by adjusting the xDrive torque split to 20% front/80% rear in steady state cornering. Performance Control can also apply the inside rear brake while also applying a little more power to the outside wheel (to compensate for the additional drag of the brake) in order to help rotate the vehicle.

Adjacent to the E-Shift lever on the X3′s center console is the optional Driving Dynamics Control selector (included with EDC). DDC provides three settings that tailor vehicle characteristics to different drivers, one driver’s different moods, driving conditions – or all of the above. The settings are Normal, Sport and Sport Plus; the following vehicle-dynamics parameters are affected:

The X3′s driving dynamics can be widely controlled by these different calibrations of so many elements. In addition, when equipped with the Navigation system, the driver may use iDrive to custom-tailor the Sport setting.

Just ahead of the Driving Dynamics Control switch is the Dynamic Stability Control switch for BMW’s all-encompassing stability- and traction-control system. A brief push on this button switches the system to Dynamic Traction Control, in which DSC’s intervention threshold is raised; one effect of this setting is improved traction in deep snow. A long push on the same button de-activates DSC altogether, though the anti-lock braking and anti-rollover functions always remain active.

Holden has just released the 2011 Holden Commodore VE Series II which is Australia’s first car that offers flex-fuel technology. Both ordinary petrol and premium petrol can be used or E85 fuel, available at selected service stations.

The new Holden Commodore offers other improvements as well. It features cosmetic revisions, mainly to the front and rear bumper bars. There’s also a range of new technologies applied to the interior to enhance passive comfort and Holden’s 3.0-litre and 3.6-litre V6 engines have also been re-engineered and now produce less emissions and are more fuel efficient than the previous variants. Improvements also stand for 6.0-litre V8 engine models.

Inside, there’s a new centre stack fascia with new illuminations and colours, new mouldings around the air vents and controls, and then there’s the ever-presence of Holden’s iQ display system. This is a 6.5 inch touch-screen moulded into the top centre of the dash, now standard on all models, even the base Omega. Also standard across the range is dual-zone climate control air-conditioning.

The all-new Alfa Romeo Giulietta, the successor to the 147 hatchback, has been unveiled today ahead of its worldwide debut at next year’s Geneva Motor Show.

Powered by no less than four turbo engines at launch, they are all fitted with a standard “Start&Stop” system for reducing consumption and emissions: two petrol engines (1.4TB – 88 kW and 1.4TB MultiAir – 125 kW) and two diesel engines (1.6 JTDM – 77 kW and 2.0 JTDM – 125 kW, both belonging to the second generation of JTDM engines). Finally, the range is completed with the lively 1750 TBi – 173 kW with an exclusive Quadrifoglio Verde configuration.

The Giulietta has brand-new architecture, designed to meet the expectations of the most demanding customers in terms of road holding, agility and safety. Its excellent dynamic performance and great comfort are the result of refined technical solutions implemented in the suspensions, a next-generation steering system, a rigid yet light structure made of aluminium and high-strength steel, and state-of-the-art manufacturing technologies.

The front end is developed around a “trilobe shape” and features a brand-new interpretation of the classic Alfa grille, set into the front bumper and suspended between the two air intakes. The 2011 Buick Enclave’s upscale interior, smooth ride and stylish looks put it almost on par with some luxury SUVs, but don’t expect it to handle like a car.

The Enclave shares a platform with the popular Chevy Traverse and GMC Acadia, but commands a price premium over both. Starting at just over $35,000, it’s actually one of the more expensive options among Affordable Midsize SUVs. But most luxury-minded buyers will find that it’s worth it.

The Enclave features one of the most luxurious and quiet interiors in its class. That, plus seating for seven makes it a practical family hauler. “This crossover builds on the strengths of its more mainstream cousins by offering tangible upgrades in luxury and style,” explains Consumer Guide. In fact, Buick likens the experience of sitting in an Enclave to a private jet.

Buick design went from purposely understated to flat-out dull, and the average age of the brand’s buyers shot up to over 70 in the mid-2000s. If it weren’t for Buick’s success in China, the Trishield would have likely followed Oldsmobile into retirement. But instead of mothballing Buick for good, General Motors decided to finally give the brand what it really needed: new and exciting products. The tuners from MTM have been some of the first to launch a tuning program for the car that is confirmed on the U.S market in 2012. The German specialists just unveiled their initial package that includes a few improvements. First, the styling upgrades consist of a 19 or 21-inch wheel kit, 20 mm spacers for a wider stance, and an aftermarket exhaust with throttle valves. The Audi RS5 performance figures weren’t raised, however the tuning company removed the cars speed limiter. But the price to have this done is a little too much.

The Honda Integra Type R is a limited edition car which has two variants: the DC2 Type R and the DC5 Type R:

The DC2 Type R is more popularly known as Acura Integra Type R in North America. The DC2 Type R is outfitted with a B18C 1.8 Li DOHC VTEC engine which gives the car 200 hp at 8000 rpm. Compared to the Yukon, XL models are about 14 inches longer in wheelbase, 20 inches longer overall, and have nearly 30 cu ft more cargo volume. Though just redesigned, Yukons and their Chevrolet siblings are expected to add a hybrid powertrain option for 2008. The result of a GM-DaimlerChrysler-BMW collaboration, this new “two-mode” system is said to use twin electric motors and a 300-volt battery pack to assist a 5.3 V8 with GM’s Active Fuel Management. It allows low-speed driving on either power source, and promises better overall fuel economy than conventional powertrains. Rival Dodge’s midsize Durango SUV will offer a similar hybrid option in the ’07 or ’08 model years.

Further out, General Motors says it may offer a 330-hp diesel V8 for its largest SUVs by model-year 2010. GM is cagey about details for now, but says this new diesel will be a 32-valve dual-overhead-cam design–and clean enough for sale in all 50 states. GM projects a Yukon so equipped would get around 28 mpg in city driving vs. 21 for a comparable gas-engine model.

Fully redesigned for 2007 (along with its Chevrolet Tahoe platform mate), the current GMC Yukon rides on a stiff, fully boxed frame. The ride is smooth and quiet, while handling is surprisingly agile for a 5,500-pound vehicle. Inside, the dash has a sleek, modern design, and materials are attractive and of solid quality. Numerous seating configurations can accommodate anywhere from five to nine passengers, depending on the trim level and options you select.

The basic trim structure includes SLE, SLT and Denali models, though numerous package options allow for considerable variation within the lower trim levels. Yukon SLE models come with all the essentials, including stability control, tri-zone air-conditioning, a CD player and full power accessories, while the SLT should be your pick if you’re looking for extras like leather upholstery and automatic climate control. Full-length side curtain airbags were standard on the SLT but optional on the SLE until 2008, when they became standard across the board. Buyers can choose either 2WD or 4WD on both the SLE and SLT. Choosing 2WD nets you a 290-horsepower 4.8-liter V8, while 4x4s get a standard 320-hp 5.3-liter V8 with a cylinder-deactivation feature that yields a highway mileage rating in the low 20s.

The GMC Envoy is an SUV from the GMC marque of General Motors. It was introduced as a luxury version of the Jimmy for the 1998 model year, the same year the Jimmy was restyled.

The new Envoy replaced the Jimmy name in GMC’s lineup. While it still shares a platform with the Chevrolet TrailBlazer, the styling is different. Early versions used the 270 hp (201 kW) straight-6 Vortec 4200 engine, while later Envoys stepped up to 275 hp (205 kW). This rating grew to 291 hp (217 kW) for the 2006 model year. All Envoys have 4-wheel disc brakes. A Displacement on Demand 5.3 L V8 was used beginning in 2005.

Safety Features
The GMC Envoy has a variety of safety features available as standard or optional.
The GMC Envoy received a 3-Star Frontal Crash Rating for the Driver and 4-Stars for the Front Passenger. All areas including side-impact crashes received 5 stars. These tests were conducted by the NHTSA. These ratings pertain to the model year of 2002 to present.
For 2006-present, GMC added standard stability control, or as they call it “Stabilitrak.” And for 2008 it added side-curtain airbags as a standard.

he Envoy XL was the full-size counterpart to the five-passenger mid-size Envoy. One unique element of the Envoy was the availability of a usable 3-row that was comfortable for a 6-foot (1.83 m) passenger in the, 7-passenger Envoy XL version. This vehicle is 16 in (406 mm) longer and has a higher roofline to allow easier access to the third row of seats. This roof is disguised by standard roof racks. The Envoy XL was larger than the short-wheelbase Yukon.

Production of the XL model was handled by the Oklahoma City Assembly plant in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. The XL model was discontinued after the 2006 model year when the Oklahoma city plant closed on February 20, 2006. The Envoy XL has since been replaced by the Acadia crossover SUV as of 2007.

XUV
The five-passenger Envoy XUV, introduced in 2003, was an attempt to create a combination of pickup truck and SUV. It featured a retractable rear roof section that slid forward, giving an open-topped load area. A ‘MidGate’ could be raised to partition the load area off from the passenger compartment; this was a solid, waist height plastic-lined panel and with a retractable glass partition for the top half. The two-way tailgate could either hinge sideways or drop down; the tailgate glass retracted into the solid tailgate. The cargo area was waterproofed and fitted with a drainage system, allowing it to be easily hosed down for cleaning.

The advantage of the Envoy XUV over a pickup truck or a more truck-like configuration such as the Chevrolet Avalanche (which originated the MidGate feature) is that with retractable roof and rear glass closed, the cargo area is sealed, full roof height and lockable, thus making it an enclosed SUV. The disadvantages include a much shorter cargo bed area and breakable side glass. The Envoy XUV’s retractable roof was reminiscent of the Studebaker Wagonaire of the 1960s.

In 2005, a Denali luxury version of the Envoy became available. Both the standard length wheelbase Envoy as well as the Envoy XL are available with the Denali trim option. The Envoy Denali features the hallmark bullet pattern grille and an upgraded interior with luxury car-like features such as heated power seats, extensive woodgrain trim, and rain-sensing windshield wipers. Prices for the Envoy Denali range from US$37,145 to $42,750; prices for the Envoy XL Denali range from $38,575 to $43,895.

The 2007 GMC Yukon Denali is aptly named. It’s an SUV as big as the great outdoors, with a lust for life–not to mention gas, double-wide parking spaces, and your wallet. This urban tank promises a lot, but doesn’t quite deliver. It’s a six-seater that really holds only four people. (The third row of seats is for those practicing Lamaze or with extremely short legs.) It’s an all-wheel-drive SUV not really suited for off-road, thanks to a piddly 9-inch ground clearance. It also gulps fuel like an F-16, barely managing 14mpg in mixed city and urban-highway driving.

The interior materials aren’t designed to attract the luxury-minded. The Denali’s first and second row of seats are leather clad, but that’s about it. The carpet is rough and basic black, the dashboard and doors plasticky, highlighted with strips of painfully faux wood paneling.

The seating up front is comfy, complete with 12-way adjustment (including lumbar support), seat heaters, and plenty of headroom. The second row of seats likewise has heaters, but legroom vanishes if anyone up front moves their seat back. The third row of seats is useless for adults–there’s no leg well, forcing a knees-to-chin sitting posture. Getting out of the Yukon from the back seats is a birth experience.

One plus: the Denali can haul. The third-row seats pop right out; and, in a nice technological feat, the second-row seats can fold flat or tumble up flush against the front seat with the push of a button. That leaves a cargo hold up to 60 inches deep, 49 to 55 inches wide, and up to 42 inches high–enough to transport a dinette set with room to spare.

Most of the mod cons
The Denali sports a sweet suite of technology–GPS navigation, CD/DVD/MP3 player, XM satellite radio, and DVD playback for the kiddies in the backseat. Controlling music and navigation is a cinch via a 5.5-by-3.5-inch color LCD panel that’s front and center. (The navigation/stereo unit is the same as found in the 2007 GM Yukon SLT and the 2007 Cadillac Escalade.) The screen is bright and sharp, and easily read even in direct sunlight. The screen is lined with hard buttons–on the left for navigation, on the right for audio. The controls are fairly obvious and, along with some old-fashioned knobs, not too distracting to manipulate while driving.

Yukon and Denali offer no changes of note for 2006, awaiting a redesign due during the ’06 model year. Yukon and Denali are GMC’s versions of the General Motors large SUVs also sold with Chevrolet and Cadillac nameplates. Yukon is an upscale sibling of the Chevrolet Tahoe. The longer Yukon XL is a trimmed Chevy Suburban. Denali and Denali XL are Yukon’s luxury versions. Cadillac’s Escalade is the third member of this SUV family.

Yukon XL comes in half-ton 1500 and three-quarter-ton 2500 models. Other Yukons and Denalis are 1500s. All have a rear liftgate with separate-opening glass and seat up to nine. Front bucket seats are standard on Denalis and available for Yukons in place of a 3-person bench. Twin 2nd-row bucket seats are optional to replace a 3-person bench. A 3rd-row bench is standard for Denali, XL SLE, and XL SLT; available for regular-length Yukons and XL SL.

All models have a V8 engine. A 285-hp 4.8-liter is standard in regular-length Yukons, a 295-hp 5.3 is offered. The 5.3 is standard on Yukon XL 1500s. A 335-hp 6.0 is standard on Denali and 2500 models, a 325-hp 8.1-liter is optional for the 2500.

All models have an automatic transmission with GM’s Tow/Haul mode. Denalis include all-wheel drive without low-range gearing. Yukons offer either rear-wheel drive or GM’s Autotrac 4WD that can be left engaged on dry pavement and includes low-range gearing.

All models have antilock 4-wheel disc brakes. GM’s Stabilitrak antiskid system is standard for Yukon and Denali models. Front side airbags are standard on Denalis, available elsewhere. Yukons get standard 16-inch wheels or optional 17s. Denalis come with 17-inch wheels or newly available 20-inch chrome wheels.

GM’s OnStar assistance is standard on all models. Denalis come with power-adjustable pedals and an automatic climate system with front/rear controls. All are available for Yukons. Optional for SLT and Denali models is an audio/navigation system, which adds a control touch screen.

Let’s get something out of the way right now: the Yukon Hybrid is over-priced. Our tester stickered at $56k. At that price point, GM’s gas – electric SUV competes against BMW’s enlarged X5, Audi’s Q7 carcoon and Lexus’ golf club friendly RX 400h (to name a few). Hybrid or no, the GMC Yukon’s not exactly what you’d call an upmarket machine. If The General had taken the hit and offered the Yukon Hybrid for the same price or less than its gasoline equivalent, it would be a far more compelling proposition. But they didn’t. So let’s press on.

Aesthetically, the Yukon Hybrid is about as bashful as a drunken sorority girl at Panama City Beach Spring Break. The big rig’s plastered with no fewer than nine proclamations that it possess a gas-electric drivetrain, including three-foot-long “Hybrid” stickers along its mighty flanks. Custom side skirts, a rear spoiler and good-looking low-weight 18-inch wheels add more not-so-subtle style (and mpgs) to the equation.

Other than that, it’s a Yukon: big, bland and boxy. OK, the SUV’s creases were sharpened pre-Hurricane Katrina, but the Yukon’s looks still aren’t going to blow anyone away.

To drop the Yukon Hybrid’s aerodynamic Cd from .39 to .34, GM re-softened those sharpened creases with a slightly reshaped hood and rear hatch, and lost the roof rack. Although the new hood and hatch are fashioned from aluminum, the Yukon Hybrid’s batteries and electric motor make it heavier than the standard model. The Yukon Hybrid’s heft rises from either 5270 to 5541 lbs., or from 5438 to 5617 lbs., depending on whether you believe GM PR or the GMC website.

GM’s new truck interiors may be far better than anything they’ve ever offered, boasting attractive chrome accents and a real woven headliner. But at $51k (base), the Yukon Hybrid’s interior feels cheaper than a Las Vegas motel on a Tuesday afternoon. Fake wood and aluminum abound. Vinyl that tries (and fails) to look like leather stretches across the ample dashboard. The seats are flat and unsupportive, and the optional third row seat is unusable for anyone but Hobbits.

The Hybrid comes amply-equipped with navigation, rear parking camera, auto climate control and power everything. In complete contrast to the exterior, only a small Hybrid logo, an “Eco” gauge and a Prius-like touch screen drivetrain display remind the driver that they’re piloting the world’s largest private passenger hybrid.

To maintain the Yukon’s cavernous interior, the engineers utilized the undercarriage space for the NiMH batteries. Part of that space was realized (and the beast’s weight gain minimized) by replacing the full-size spare tire with a can of sealant– not exactly what you’d expect in a 4×4. Not that you’d ever take those low-rolling-resistance donuts off-road. On the positive side, the Yukon Hybrid 4X4′s towing capacity is a respectable 6000 lbs. (down from 8000 lbs.)

As for that highly-touted 25 percent fuel economy improvement, yes, I achieved the advertised mpg in mixed driving. But I wonder how much of that gain’s down to the non-drivetrain mods. Equally perplexing: why hasn’t GM incorporated them into normal Yukotahburbelades? Is the American automaker shortchanging their gas-powered SUVs to protect the hybrid versions’ rep? Clearly, the Yukon Hybrid raises more questions than it answers. Meanwhile, one thing is for sure: at that price, in this market, the Yukon Hybrid will not be flying off the lots.

Yukon: The chilly wildness of its name suggests cold, rugged terrain; a landscape at once beautiful yet inhospitable. A 2005 GMC Yukon wouldn’t be a bad thing to have in such a place, but it’s also a great domestic partner for the warmer adventure of everyday living.

Smaller than the largest SUVs, yet still indisputably full-sized, Yukon is the right size for families that have something to tow. Its cabin is roomy, friendly and functional. It can carry a load of people and a mountain of cargo. It can pull heavy trailers, up to 7700 pounds, or 8100 in the case of the more powerful Denali model. Third-row seats are available to increase Yukon’s capacity to seven passengers, or up to nine if you order bench seats throughout. Yet Yukon will fit into a garage more easily than a Suburban or even an Expedition, both of which are longer.

The Yukon offers a nice ride and a choice of V8 engines, the largest of them with plenty of power for acceleration or towing. Yukon is smooth and stable on the road. Its advanced braking system works well. Turn off the highway and it handles gravel, rugged two-tracks, mud and snow. In any kind of driving, it’s a great choice for someone who needs real carrying capacity.

Safety is enhanced by a tire-pressure monitor and sophisticated Hydroboost brakes. StabiliTrak electronic stability control is now available on all models, as is OnStar, upgraded for 2005 with enhanced hands-free capabilities. A new DVD-based touch-screen navigation system is also available.

The Yukon Denali is a luxury version that adds a sumptuous interior, a bigger engine (with even more power for 2005), and full-time all-wheel drive. It is a unique and desirable vehicle, offering power, luxury, and prestige that is not available in a Chevrolet Tahoe, but without the ostentatious flash of a Cadillac Escalade.

General Motors Corp. unveiled a concept GMC Yukon Denali SUV developed in partnership with cultural icon Shawn “Jay-Z” Carter. Jay-Z, hip-hop superstar and business entrepreneur, escorted the GMC Yukon Denali – painted a special shade of blue in honor of his signature color “Jay-Z Blue” – down a runway at an exclusive event called GM Style, an invitation-only party where top celebrities appeared with 17 new GM vehicles, concept cars and classics. The party kicked off the North American International Auto Show, which opens to the public.

“Automotive design, entertainment and fashion have had a profound influence on each other and American culture for generations,” said Ed Welburn, vice president of GM Global Design. “Tonight we’re pairing a music icon, Jay-Z, with an automotive icon, the GMC Yukon Denali. Our Global Color Studio worked with Jay-Z to develop a fresh, vibrant color that matched his goals and aesthetics.
