Sonia Renthlei:
In the world of automobiles, no platform is more important for showcasing new models than car exhibitions. Here, potential buyers and automobile fans can come together and get an eyeful of what’s on offer. From the Geneva Motor Show to the New York Auto Show, there are many such events that play host to showcasing stunning vehicles. But, one name stands out for displaying elegant vintage cars known for their beauty and performance decades ago: Concorso d’Eleganza Villa d’Este. Held in Lake Como, Italy, in recent years the event has played host not only to vintage automobiles but new models as well. This year, the ongoing event welcomed legendary British automaker Aston Martin which showcased its next generation DBS sports coupe concept. The red beauty has been named the AM310 and can be viewed at Lake Como.

Aston Martin had earlier unveiled its most expensive and exclusive car, the One-77 (with 77 being the number of units that were produced), at Concorso d’Eleganza Villa d’Este which saw rich buyers trying their best to get a piece of the stunning ride. The DBS concept looks set to trigger the same reaction with its low height and elegant lines. From the few images we’ve seen, the DBS sports sleek, sloping headlights, two-tone spoked wheels, the recognizable front grille with vertical slats and the Aston emblem riding the hood.

Aston Martin next gen DBS sports coupe revealed in the form of AM310 concept at Lake Como

The new DBS will go into production later this year and sales will begin by 2013. Till then, automobile fans with deep pockets will have to be content with gazing at images of this latest offering or taking a trip to Concorso d’Eleganza Villa d’Este to see it firsthand.

Only a few details have been released by Aston including that the DBS will be powered by a 6.0-liter V12 engine and that the body will consist largely of carbon fiber. The flaming red delight had a number of people talking as everyone had wondered what Aston’s next design would be.

It would be interesting to see if the new offering will be impacted by recent reports of a crash involving the prized One-77. According to news, the car was said to be moving at high speed and crashed into a curb. The vehicle was totaled but the main passenger cell looked to be pretty intact. We’re guessing this is due to the One-77’s carbon fiber monocoque, an ultra strong construction technique that’s been employed by numerous automakers.

Like the One-77, the DBS will be employing carbon fiber though we aren’t sure if the monocoque technique will be used. We’re hoping it does as the V12 is guaranteed to make the DBS hit high speeds with its projected 500 hp plus output. Incidentally, such an engine should be expected to touch speeds of over 191 mph and a sprint time of under four seconds in the 0-62 mph run.

There’s no confirmation on whether the new model will be a limited edition though it wouldn’t be a surprise if Aston is attempting to cash in on the exclusivity and popularity the One-77 commanded. It should be quite a feat despite the new DBS’s stylish design as the One-77 was a vehicle that was truly ‘77’ of a kind.

Asmita Prasad:
Given the state of the Spanish economy, Tata Motors India has decided to make life a bit better for people trying to downsize their living conditions by offering them a chance to get a more affordable to own and driver, left hand driver version of the Indica Vista. The Indica Vista is no stranger to the Spanish market having already made its debut in the country way back in 2008 though the new hatchback is better geared to meet the safety and emission norms of the Euro zone.

Currently exported to Spain from India, the new Vista will not be the facelifted version of the model but will feature a grille and headlamps similar to the Tata Motors’ Indigo Manza sedan class car. In Spain, the new Indica Vista will be distributed by the dealership Nijuler Automoción. Like its Indian counterpart, the Indica Vista sold in Spain too will be offered in two variants with the petrol version being powered by a 1172cc 1.2-L engine that outputs 96Nm of torque at 3000rpm and 65PS power at 5500rpm and comes mated to a C510 STAR gearbox.

The 1405cc 1.4-L TDI Turbo Inter-Cooled diesel engine on the other hand, outputs 135Nm torque at 2500rpm and has a max 71PS of power at 4500rpm and comes with a new TA65 gearbox/ the Vista will be launched in Spain at a starting price of € 7,960 with the diesel variant garnering more attention than the petrol variant. Even though the future of the Spanish economy remains questionable, Tata Motors has revealed its intention of launching the lifestyle car named Tata Xenon as well as the popular Tata Aria in the country.

Sonia Renthlei:
The technologies applied to automobiles these days serve several purposes and are not merely restricted to performance enhancement and comfort. Automakers are looking to make cars more accessible and user friendly for older drivers, in a bid to keep them safe on their commutes. Park and hill assist as well as crash avoidance systems all seek to make driving more secure. This use of intelligent technology is witnessing a rise as older drivers become more determined to take control and not let age get them down.

iXoost iPod docking station is made from a supercar’s exhaust

Designed by Mirco Pecorari on a concept developed by Matteo Panini, the first dock station of its kind in the world was named after a regional British pronunciation of the word ‘exhaust’. the way it’s put together is not only the only aspect of the system that makes it unique with five-axis machines being used to turn and mill the eight, ten or twelve cylinder exhaust manifold and other parts borrowed from a solid block of aluminum.

Made exclusively for iPods and iPhones, the iXoost docking station is divided into a sound horn-fitted main base with a separate sound box woofer-fitted exhaust manifold. Retro motorbikes of the 60s and 70s were the inspiration behind the innovative console of the iXoost. Entirely hand-built in Modena by local artisans, the iXoost docking station can be customized to suit customer specifications and the handmade dock comes in a EUR 5,000 standard model featuring Schedoni natural leather, titanium color and V8 manifolds while the higher spec V10 and V12 iXoosts are expected to cost between EUR 6,500 and 8,000.

Sonia Renthlei:
After its popular Xylo MUV, Indian automobile manufacturer, Mahindra & Mahindra, launched the XUV500 in late 2011, a sports utility vehicle that was much-awaited. Its competitors include the likes of the Ford Endeavor and Toyota Fortuner so it’s no stretch of the imagination the league it’s in. Come June, and the company will be reopening bookings for its brand new cheetah-inspired XUV500 which saw its 9-month production capacity being sold out. Unlike some of the vehicles manufactured in India, the XUV is one that employs advanced technologies found in many foreign and premium vehicles such as anti-lock braking system and electronic brakeforce distribution.

On June 8th, fans of the large SUV can place orders all across India as well as the existing 19 cities the earlier XUV had been launched in. This will give potential buyers located in far flung areas a chance to own what is touted as one of the most stylish SUVs to be produced by an Indian manufacturer.

When the XUV was made available earlier, Mahindra is said to have received over 25,000 booking applications. The company then named 7,200 winning applicants through the XUV500 draw, an automated process. The car has also received rave reviews and has won numerous awards.

According to Pravin Shah, chief exec of Mahindra’s Automotive Division, the company was flooded with requests for reopening of bookings especially from cities not included in the list of 19 cities. As such, the cheetah-inspired SUV was ‘reproduced’ owing to consumer demand.

The XUV is a far better looking vehicle than the Xylo ever was. Less bulky and with sleeker lines, its front grille has a honeycomb design and jaw-like frames that look ready to pounce. The paw-styled door handles complement the overall lines and style of the SUV to turn the vehicle into one that looks ready and willing to take on bumpy Indian roads.

Sonia Renthlei:
The German Motorcycle Authority has a bike in its arsenal that makes you go ‘wow’. Low, long and very mean looking, the Twin Trax seems to be a cross between a cruiser and something more sporty, so long that you could virtually lie flat. This offering from the custom makers is powerful too, featuring two 80 hp 1.35-liter Harley Davidson S&S Evolution engines.

Built and owned by Christoph Madaus in Cologne, Germany, the motorcycle has a wheelbase of 2060mm with an overall length of 2710mm and a height of 990mm. But considering its powerful engines are mated to a 5-speed H-D with Andrew gears, we figure it’ll give others some pretty decent competition.

The German Motorcycle Authority has several motorcycles under belt, most bearing a look that is rugged and naked. The Billy Bob, with a curb weight of 251 kg, features an air-cooled 45-degree V-MotorOHV with an Evolution-style RevTech 110cui engine. With an output of 115 hp, it may not be the fastest, but looks like a motorcycle you’d find bike lovers hankering after.

The Flying Tigers FXR, meanwhile, gives an output of 66 hp and is equipped with an Evolution engine. Painted a sky blue, it deviates from the look of the rest in the German Motorcycle Authority’s arsenal but its powerful frame will put critics to silence. The custom Harley Davidson KHRM, on the other hand, uses a stock Sportster from the XL Series which has been turned into a street legal racing bike.

Pratima Kalra:
BMW wishes to make its 7 Series flagship more memorable with its 2013 model. The web debut reveals that this model has got a minor exterior facelift, a comprehensively revamped interior and a new and upgraded engine variant. On the outside the sedan has got new updated lights with LEDs and the number of vertical slants on its grille has been reduced from previous 24 to 18. The interior has a multifunctional instrument display and a new entertainment package in the rear.

The revised engine of the car seems extremely economical and is a low emissions variant. This means that the engine will get an intelligent eight speed automatic transmission, along with start stop system, and the second generation driving experience control with the ECO PRO mode, further helping to economise the use of fuel. The twin turbo, 6 liter V12 unit engine, with a power and torque of 544Bhp and 750Nm, has been retained. The 4.4 liter V8 engine generates 450Bhp and 650Nm, while adding both power and fuel economy of 11kmpl.

The upgrades on the inside include resculpted front leather seats, updated iDrive control with floating screens for the rear seat entertainment package, a 1200 watt Bang and Olufsen sound system and an optional 9.2 inches rear mirror. Besides these, the look of the navigation system too has been changed; it has new menu and display, with a pie menu and 3D elements. Its attention assistant system lets the driver know when it’s time to rest, indicated with a coffee cup icon.

The car will be available for sale by the end of this summer and its price will be released close its launch. Its main competitor, the Mercedes S- class, too is preparing for a revamp, but, which one will more overpowering is yet to be seen.

Vinod Sharma:
Finding car insurance has long been a stressful and expensive process for drivers Australia wide, made difficult and time consuming by the process of going around different insurers, requesting information and quotes before choosing the best policy.

iSelect car insurance

It remains an issue for many car owners,in today’s busy society, people struggle to fit this time consuming activity into their day, however, thanks to the internetthere are alternative ways to find the best possible deal.

Information about car insurance is now widely available on the internet, meaning details can be gathered without even having to leave the comfort of your own home.Comparison websites such as iSelect make it easier to choose a policy that best suits your requirements.

One of the main appeals in finding car insurance online is that it allows the user to conduct a search and make decisions at their own leisure. For those who are unsure of what they are looking for, collecting information for themselves may prevent them from being talked into something that may not be right for them.

To look for car insurance online, it pays to know what kind of policy you are after. Compulsory Third Party, or ‘CTP’ is the minimum requirement and only covers personal injury for crash victims, but not to any car or property. Third party damage does cover damage to another person’s car or property, but not your own.

Comprehensive car insurance is the highest level of insurance, and it covers both personal injury and third party damage, and as the level of cover suggests- it is the most expensive in terms of yearly premiums.

What will become apparent by searching online is that it is possible to find quotes that may be cheaper than the premium you are currently paying. However it is important to make sure that any cheaper quotes that you compare cover the things you as a driver deem necessary for your own peace of mind and financial situation.

While quotes you find online maybe cheaper in dollar amount, it is likely that they do not cover things you may consider essential, which could result inadditional expense should you need to lodge a claim. On the other hand, more expensive quotes may well be more comprehensive, but it is worth considering how you use your car, where you park it, distances you travel and how often you drive in order to justify the expense.

It is important to find a policy that you can not only afford- but that best fits your needs and personal circumstances at the time- bearing in mind that over time, these could well change.

Once a policy has been selected, the process of actually getting insured is, in most cases straight forward. An application for the favoured policy can in most cases, be lodged online, and your new policy will come into effect on the specified date.

In the Iron Man universe, nothing beat Tony Stark’s brain work and his virtual sidekick Jarvis as long as Tony can get his faithful Iron Man suit to back up his antics. We’re not sure if Tony would be al that flattered seeing his creation’s form being used to pimp up a scooter but we hope this extraordinary two wheeler’s maker has bestowed it with a virtual tech integration comparable to Jarvis!

Asmita Prasad: ASCII

Asmita Prasad:
Renault India is all set to get into bed with Nissan with the two companies all set to jointly engineer a new entry level product. The new low cost small car will be a global product called the i2 that will be branded under both a Renault badge as well as Nissan’s Datsun nameplate. The vehicle will be positioned as a competitor to the Maruti Alto and the Hyundai Eon hatchbacks in India.

So far, Renault India has been focusing on creating its own niche identity in the Indian market with sales figures and volumes not really being their primary concerns. With the announcement of the collaborative project, however, the company seems to have set its sights firmly on developing an entry level car that would get them a leg in the mostly hotly contested market in the country.

The Renault i2 small car is expected to be a hot seller in the domestic Indian market and expected to be manufactured at their new Oragadam facility that lies just off Chennai. Aimed at the global small car segment, the Renault i2 is set to be the least expensive product by the Renault-Nissan alliance in the world and is expected to be exported to other parts of the world from India.
