New Porsche Macan URSA Tune by Russia's TopCar

After many months of preparation and work, Russian tuning firm TopCar is ready to share its Porsche Macan URSA aftermarket program.

Set to be officially revealed at this week's Moscow International Motor show 2014 (August 27 to September 7), TopCar's URSA project for the Macan SUV consists exclusively of exterior styling parts at this stage.

There are two editions to choose from, one with carbon fiber detailing for €16,080 (about $21,300 or GBP 12,800) and a painted one for €12,680 (~$16,800 or GBP 10,100).

Both versions include a wide bodykit comprising of a new front bumper with a lip spoiler, hood vents, side skirts, wheel arch extensions, front fender air ducts, rear bumper and diffuser, plus lower and upper tailgate spoilers.

The alloy wheels pictured in the display car are not included, but due to the wide body kit, you will probably have to get spacers and/or a new set of rims and tires.

EU on Quest to Move Emissions, Efficiency Testing out of Labs, into Real World

When you buy a new car today you of course check out the efficiency credentials, but are always aware that they do not reflect reality. Buyers (and those who advise them) have learnt that the discrepancy between what is claimed and what is realis usually constant and have therefor adapted, but it’s far from being called normal and the practice of being deceitful about these claims is detrimental to the end user, not the company.

Companies actually profit from these legal loopholes, as Reuterscalls them, and you can imagine they will be fighting the EU’s initiative to make the manufacturers blurt out the actual figures, instead of these phony ones that are an integral part of their marketing schemes.

The numbers are not accurate for a variety of reasons, most of which are intentional. The fact that most testing is done in labs is one factor that causes the issue, and even when they do take the cars out to see how efficient they are, all sorts of practices from taping up seams in the body, to pumping up the tires excessively are used to yet again cheat the system.

The EU is now bent on putting a stop to this (finally). Through the European Comission (EC), they want to force the manufacturer to change their practices for more accurate results.

It’s not even planet-warming CO2 that’s the main problem, apparently, because it’s being kept in check – what we should be looking out for is nitrogen oxide (NOX), a known carcinogen.

The source quotes an unnamed source from within the EU administration: "In the real world we have seen that NOX emissions are higher than indicated by the test, up to a factor 4 or 5 and exceptionally more" – that’s scary, if proven true…

The first step being taken by the EU through the EC is being enforced as of September 1. It’s specifically designed to limit the amount of NOX (diesel) engines (in particular) are known to emit – they want to drop the maximum allowed threshold from 0.180 g/km to 0.080 g/km.

Subaru Launches 296HP WRX S4 in Japan

While in the United States, the Subaru WRX is rated at 268 horsepower, in Japan, the automaker has launched it directly with an upgraded version which comes with 296 horsepower.

Offered exclusively in Subaru's home market, the new Subaru WRX S4 is powered by a tuned version of the 2.0-liter turbocharged Boxer engine which produces 300PS (296hp) at 5,600 rpm and 400 Nm (295 lb-ft) between 2,000 and 4,800 rpm. The engine is offered exclusively with the Sport Lineartronic CVT automatic and returns 13.2 km/l (7.6 l/100 km or 31 mpg US), according to Japan's JC08 mode.

The name S4 does not hint at Audi, with Subaru saying it denotes the four values of “sports performance”, “safety performance”, “smart driving” and “sophisticated feel”.

The Subaru WRX S4 features new equipment including the EyeSight driving assist system, Multi-mode Vehicle Dynamics Control (VDC), Active Torque Vectoring, and electric parking brake. Other new systems include the Active Lane Keep steering assistance system, Pre-Collision Reverse Throttle Management and Brake Light Recognition.

In terms of styling, the Subaru WRX S4 looks very much like the US-spec WRX, unless one specifies it with STI Performance styling upgrades - like those seen on the car from the opening photo. The WRX S4 is offered with new 18-inch alloy wheels and two new exterior colors, WR Blue Pearl and Crystal White Pearl.

2015 Chevrolet Corvette Z06 Priced from $78,995

GM has announced pricing for the range-topping 2015 Chevrolet Corvette Z06, with the entry ticket for the most powerful and technologically advanced Corvette ever being set at $78,995. That’s the price for the coupe version, as the convertible starts from $83,995. Both prices include destination charges.

If the standard package which includes a 6.2-liter supercharged V8 engine producing 650 hp and 650 lb-ft of torque (881 Nm), a performance aero kit and numerous chassis tweaks isn’t enough, GM also offers optional packages that enhance the Corvette Z06 both aesthetically and in terms of performance.

The Carbon Fiber Ground Effects package, priced at $2,995, adds a functional carbon fiber front splitter, carbon fiber rocker panels and a larger rear spoiler for increased stability at high speeds. The Z07 Performance Package, available for $7,995, adds Brembo carbon ceramic-matrix brake rotors, adjustable front and rear aerodynamic components to the Carbon Fiber Ground Effects package and Michelin Pilot Super Sport Cup tires for better grip.

The 2015 Corvette Z06 is offered in three trims: 1LZ, 2LZ and 3LZ. Optional features include the Premium Package with leather-wrapped interior, Performance Data Recorder and navigation, competition sport seats offered in leather or sueded microfiber, carbon fiber interior trim and carbon fiber convertible tonneau cover inserts, visible carbon fiber roof panel (Coupe) as well as tintcoat exterior colors, several available wheel finishes and several available brake caliper colors.

Infiniti Says New London Studio will Bring Back Romance to Design

We thoroughly agree that the age of romantic automobiles is not the one we’re currently living, but one that’s a good few decades in the past and therefor we salute Infiniti’s intention to do something about it. The Japanese automaker has just opened an automotive design studio in London where it plans to “make cars look and feel romantic again.” This new philosophy will be an integral part of the automaker’s plan to expand its lineup of models by 60 percent – design work on “more than 10 new models” has already been completed at other locations in the past year and a half, and the first of these new “romantic” expressions will debut in concept form “at upcoming international motor shows;” Paris presumably will be first. We’d already seen what Infiniti’s designers are capable of when it comes to the firm’s swoopy concepts (pictured), and even the new Q50 is quite the looker, but they’ve got a lot of work ahead if they want to not only shape people’s perception of their brand, but that regarding cars in general – their stated goal… At the new London studio, “the facility will be able to design and make full-size clay models. It is one of very few full-capability automotive design centers around the world to have a city center location.”

ficial Aston Martin Rapide S adds an extra consonant worth 550 hp

Goodbye Aston Martin Rapide. Hello Aston Martin Rapide S. That's right, Aston Martin has unveiled an updated version of its famously beautiful four-door and given its name a new consonant to boot.

The 'S' probably stands for "Sport," as the new Rapide's most significant upgrade is under the bonnet where Aston's V12 has been poked and prodded to produce 550 horsepower, a stout 80 more units of equine oomph than last year's model. Torque is likewise up 14 pound-feet to 457 at 5,000 rpm. Performance has improved in turn, with the Rapide S now able to reach 60 miles per hour in 4.7 seconds compared to 5.1 seconds before and its top speed climbing to 190 mph.

All 6.0 liters of the Rapide's engine now sit 19 millimeters lower than before, which aids handling along with the car's new adaptive suspension, tagged with the inspiring moniker of "Adaptive Damping System." ADS offers drivers three settings: Normal, Sport and Track, the latter of which implies the Rapide S will be able make the most of its newfound power.

Of course, if the Rapide is known for anything, it's the car's devastatingly good looks, and Aston has been somewhat careful here so as not to alter a curve the wrong way and ruin the Rapide's main selling point. What has changed is the grille, which grows in size and shrinks in number to just a single gaping maw. While still the face of a super model, Aston Martin won't be shaking the comparison to recent Ford designs with this one. There's also a subtle reworking of the car's rear decklid, but otherwise the Rapide S is as stunning as it always was, and a new Carbon Exterior Pack will add those precious fibers to all the major exterior trim pieces.

Aston has spared the interior from much change, instead offering a new piano black interior pack and debuting Duotone perforated red and black leather in the Rapide S.

Pricing has yet to be announced, but Aston Martin says the new Rapide S will be available to order worldwide next month. We're pretty sure its price tag will remain above $200,000, though, so maybe the 'S' stands for "So Not Gonna Happen On My Salary."

2012 Mercedes E 300 BlueTEC Hybrid

It is now clear that gas-electric hybrids, while constantly being refined, are simply never going to gobble up huge slices of any major car market. They are needed, sure, but consumers are already wanting to see what's next, what's even more efficient and more technologically advanced. All the new regular hybrids coming out these days don't really create much excitement since their technology is essentially identical to all of the other parallel hybrids already on sale.

So, what is going to keep the hybrid passenger car fires burning brightly and market percentage numbers climbing? Diesel hybrids. Maybe not in the United States for some length of time, but they are starting to arrive in Europe. PSA Peugeot-Citroën has, at last, started selling Peugeot models with the company's HYbrid4 diesel hybrid system and I've personally enjoyed driving them. Besides the enjoyment factor, the efficiency gains are real. Now I've have a chance to drive this new Mercedes-Benz E 300 BlueTEC Hybrid, and my excitement is palpable because a big mainstream statement like this from a normally conservative Mercedes-Benz is something this movement has needed.

Besides the smart thinking behind committing to this effort in general, Mercedes is launching its very cleanly engineered Modular Hybrid System that can now be plunked into nearly any of its models, much like Toyota-Lexus has been doing for years with its Hybrid Synergy Drive system.

Production Nissan Pathfinder revealed on Facebook

Through that little-known social media site known as Facebook, Nissan has released the first official images of its production 2013 Nissan Pathfinder. As you can see, there is little deviation in styling between the model that will be in showrooms and the concept shown at the Detroit Auto Show in January. Like the Ford Explorer and Dodge Durango, the Pathfinder has ditched its body-on-frame construction for the new norm of a car-based unibody blueprint. The Pathfinder will almost certainly be powered by Nissan's trusty VQ V6 in 3.5-liter trim. Chances are very good that power will be sent through a Continuously Variable Transmission to the front wheels, or to all four wheels through available all-wheel drive. No word on MPG, but given its lighter construction, Nissan foresees as crossover that is 25-percent more fuel-efficient than the outgoing Pathfinder. Built on Nissan's FF-L platform shared with the new Altima and Infiniti JX, it will have seating for seven. Nissan also says it will boast a "full-size interior," and judging on our time mucking around in the concept's cabin (not to mention the very similar JX) it will indeed be quite accommodating indeed. We'll have more details on Nissan's popular 'ute as they become available, so stay tuned.

Mini Cooper: Mini Mini rumored to be in the works

Wolfgang Armbrecht, head of BMW's Mini brand recently hinted that a smaller small car may be in the works. In an interview with Germany's Financial Times Deutschland, Ampbrecht admitted that Mini may develop a small car for parent company BMW. We've actually heard these rumors before when talk sprang up about the potential for a BMW 0 Series.

If the thought of a Mini Mini crossed with BMW parts makes you excited, you're not alone. Who could say 'No' to the Ultimate Go-Karting Machine? As of yet however, there are no reports of a build timeline or potential specs, but a glimpse of what's to come is said to be earmarked for next month's Detroit Auto Show.

Design

The new 2011 Jeep Compass has a distinct family resemblance to the all-new, premium 2011 Jeep Grand Cherokee.

This 2.4-liter World Engine has dual Variable Valve Timing (VVT) on both intake and exhaust camshafts, which helps optimize the torque curve at all speeds and produces more power, better fuel economy and smoother, quieter operation than engines without dual VVT. Dual VVT is a technology typically not available on vehicles sold in the United States in the Jeep Compass’ price class. The Jeep Compass’ 2.4-liter four-cylinder engine paired with a five-speed manual transaxle in front-wheel drive configuration delivers unsurpassed 23 miles per gallon (mpg) in the city, and 29 mpg on the highway.

Jeep Compass also features a standard five-speed manual transaxle on the entry-level Compass and a CVT that is available on the Compass and standard on the Latitude and Limited models. The Compass’ CVT2 is a second-generation CVT that Chrysler Group engineers calibrated for pleasing engine response and precise ratio control. CVT2 contributes to a fuel economy improvement of 6–8 percent compared with a traditional four-speed automatic. The Compass CVT2 also improves vehicle performance compared with a traditional automatic transaxle because of optimized gear ratios, especially in the 30–60 mph range during passing maneuvers.

The 2011 Jeep Compass also provides up to 2,000 lbs. of towing capacity.

Jeep Compass Model Lineup

The 2011 Jeep Compass is available in three configurations: Compass, Latitude and Limited. All are available with front-wheel drive, the Freedom Drive I full-time, active 4x4 system or the Freedom Drive II Off-Road Package full-time, active 4x4 system with low-range capability.

New Lexus RX450h 2011

Lexus RX450h has been completely redesigned for 2010, and Lexus has introduced minor changes to the year 2011. Over the years, Lexus has been setting the standard for the crossover segment, Lexus decided that messing with success is not the way to go.

The new RX is grown in almost all its dimensions than previous generations, but the end result is a better looking vehicle overall. While the previous generation RX looked bubble, the new RX has sharp bends and its maximum and then give an attractive appearance.

The new RX headlights, taillights and grille are much more aerodynamic and a spoiler mounted on the roof gives it a sporty look. Lexus identifies with hybrid formations Logos blue-trimmed, tinted headlights, tail lights and our test vehicle also came with 19-inch wheels. We think Lexus has done a great job in refining the exterior of the 2011 RX450h and it's really a vehicle other than looking over the competition.

Lexus 450h shares the inside with his brother, non-hybrid, the only difference is the display that shows information about hybrid. Like any other Lexus, the interior quality is first rate and the RX is loaded with high-tech options such as heads-up display, CD changer, navigation with Bluetooth audio and XM Satellite Radio. The best thing about the RX is the Remote Controller that really puts the Touch iDrive and similar systems to shame. We played with the controller and were amazed to see how simple life can be.

RX 450h is powered by 3.5 liter V6 is carried over from last year's model with the combined production of 295 horses. The Atkinson cycle V6 with the help of electric motors hour increases fuel economy by about 10% over the previous generation RX. Lexus engineers have mounted a DC 288V Ni-MH battery under the rear seats that receives power from two or three engines, depending on FWD or AWD configurations.

Overall, we believe that Lexus has really learned this segment of the crossover and now with a hybrid variant are a force to reckon with. It 's true that there is someone available for Highlander Hybrid does not want to spend more than $ 51K, but Lexus has a cult following. In this day and age we all pay for the brand and Lexus RX450h is no different. So if you have a small family and are cautious green then RX450h is a perfect purchase. It is a crossover of performance, but anyone in the market for a hybrid is well aware of this fact. We really think that Lexus RX450h is for someone who cares about energy efficiency, yet still want luxury - Lexus RX450h is exactly that!
