On Sunday, May 26, Avalon will open its doors for a very special Sunday-night event, bringing Oakenfold and all his legendary glory to the stage. And what you’ll experience is more than just a memorable night out: it’s over three decades of skill that’s come to shape an entire genre of music. It’s a degree of talent that’s sent two Grammy nominations his way – one for Creamfields, another for A Lively Mind. It’s a distinctive vibe that’s been sought after by the likes of Madonna and U2 (both have insisted on opening worldwide tours with a DJ set from Oakenfold), and one that’s been featured on Hollywood blockbuster film scores, such as The Bourne Identity and Matrix Reloaded. Tale of the Dragon Slayer

While it came to the delight of everybody to be greeted by a gogo dancer on top of a unicorn at Avalon last weekend, those not initiated to Markus Schulz may rightfully be puzzled. The root of the term is described by Schulz: “by ‘unicorn’, people mean tracks with really fluffy melodies. I don’t do this.”

His dark and deeper trance earned him praise and the nickname “unicorn slayer” from a fan on twitter, which he retweeted and instantly began trending. Fans now show up to his sold-out performances showing their unicorn pride.

EDM today is defined by an immense measure of talent – there’s no doubt about it. Whether through the skills of a seasoned artist, or those of a fresh face on the scene, we’re continually in awe of what this realm of art has to offer. Yet there are a handful of DJs who go beyond that level of awe in our book. Like many talents, this particular group transports us to a place we know and love with their music; and as we’ve done with so many before, we lose ourselves in the goodness of what they have to offer. Still, there’s something more to this unique bunch. It’s an extraordinary love and thirst for what they do, a momentum of passion that shows no signs of slowing down. It’s rare and it’s brilliant – and when it takes hold of you, it’s certainly there to stay.

Bob Sinclar is one of these artists. Two decades of ambitious and inspiring grooves have given rise to a world of trademark originality – in simpler terms, a style that fits no format. Through it all, Sinclar has not only reinvented himself, but re-defined passion in the art form. We’ve become entwined with the very rhythm of tracks like “Love Generation” and “World, Hold On”, while daring, hybrid tempos (like those found in “LaLa Song”) have been successful in launching his already-unrivalled talent towards a new frontier.
