This Sunday sees the return of the BAFTAs, or the brightly coloured Orange BAFTAs as they seem to be known as now. Over the last few years Orange have cemented themselves in the minds of anyone that goes to the cinema or loves film. Orange Wednesday’s (where Orange users can get 2 for 1 film tickets) has become an institution, the success, well beyond their own wildest expectations. The recent addition of free Thursday downloads through iTunes is picking up pace with Film To Go.

Here we take a look at the main awards at this years Orange sponsored BAFTAs, the nominees, who we think will win, but more importantly who we think deserves to win!!

BEST FILM

THE ARTIST
THE DESCENDANTS
DRIVE
THE HELP
TINKER TAILOR SOLDIER SPY

Who we want to win: Drive. One of our favourite films of the last few years. Yes the Oscars maybe too stuffy and old to recognise great film for a younger generation, but we really hope that the BAFTAS will go against the trend. They did a few years ago with Slumdog and Hurtlocker, will they go that way again?.

Who will win: The Artist. Yes we hate to say it, but they will probably choose the Artist, which I am sure many of you have never seen, and have no wish too. That doesn’t make it a bad film, but it doesn’t make it a good one either. Give it it’s dues, it is original though! Just imagine Instagram in motion!

OUTSTANDING BRITISH FILM

MY WEEK WITH MARILYN
SENNA
SHAME
TINKER TAILOR SOLDIER SPY
WE NEED TO TALK ABOUT KEVIN

Who we want to win: Senna. This is a tough one, either Senna or Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy would be worthy winners. But we would love to Senna get credit above and beyond a documentary to which it has been labelled, and this would be perfect!

Who will win: Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy. Heh, we will be pretty happy at our second choice but still!! Great story, Great cast, Great film.

DIRECTOR

THE ARTIST – Michel Hazanavicius
DRIVE – Nicolas Winding Refn
HUGO – Martin Scorsese
TINKER TAILOR SOLDIER SPY – Tomas Alfredson
WE NEED TO TALK ABOUT KEVIN – Lynne Ramsay

Who we want to win: Hugo – Martin Scorsese. Surprised you huh? Martin Scorsese is a living legend in the film industry, and it was great to see him back to his best with Hugo.

Who will win: Hugo – Martin Scorsese. Although Martin Scorsese will also be honoured with an Academy Fellowship, we think he might just sneak this as well for a double celebration!

ORIGINAL SCREENPLAY

THE ARTIST – Michel Hazanavicius
BRIDESMAIDS – Annie Mumolo, Kristen Wiig
THE GUARD – John Michael McDonagh
THE IRON LADY – Abi Morgan
MIDNIGHT IN PARIS – Woody Allen

Who we want to win: The Iron Lady. We are a bit of a sucker for ole Maggie, and this great insight into British life is our top choice. Though Midnight in Paris comes a close second and I know it is one of Dan's favourite films of last year!

Who will win: Midnight in Paris. We think BAFTAs may buck the trend here and choose good old Woody, and we for one won’t be too disappointed if they do.

ADAPTED SCREENPLAY

THE DESCENDANTS
THE HELP
THE IDES OF MARCH
MONEYBALL
TINKER TAILOR SOLDIER SPY

Who we want to win: Moneyball. Strange choice some might think, but this really hasn’t been given enough credit. Pitt and Jonah Hill are both superb and you don’t even need to be a sports fan to watch it!

Who will win: Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy. We love the book, we love the film. A little bit predictable but the film is THAT good, it is sure to win.

LEADING ACTOR

BRAD PITT – Moneyball
GARY OLDMAN – Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy
GEORGE CLOONEY – The Descendants
JEAN DUJARDIN – The Artist
MICHAEL FASSBENDER – Shame

Who we want to win: Brad Pitt. No contest for us. Had his critics, but this is top top draw from the heart-throb turned serious actor.

Who will win: George Clooney. Although we weren’t the biggest fan of the Descendants, Clooney yet again proved he is just a next level actor. Yes some maybe cheesy, but this is real life, gripping stuff!

LEADING ACTRESS

BÉRÉNICE BEJO – The Artist
MERYL STREEP – The Iron Lady
MICHELLE WILLIAMS – My Week with Marilyn
TILDA SWINTON – We Need to Talk About Kevin
VIOLA DAVIS – The Help

Who we want to win: Meryl Streep. The performance was world class and a very believable Margaret Thatcher!

Who will win: Tilda Swinton. With so many nominations, We talk about Kevin has got to take something, and this well may be it. Well done Tilda!!

Sometimes an invention comes along that is so simple, you just sit back and say ‘Why didn’t I think of that?’. Well the BioLite Camping Stove and Home Stoves are just that. And not only are they great products, they were thought of by what seems amazing guys as well!

After two years in making and testing, we are pleased to say the BioLite will now be shipping in 2012. Now this isn’t your average stove, and for two main reasons.

Firstly it doesn’t use usual expensive and environment harming gas canisters. Nope, instead it uses any flammable biomass. This could be wood, twigs, branches, pine cones, whatever you get your hands on. This gives two main advantages that we can see. 1. less to carry, no fuel or anything, you just need to find something you can burn when you get there! 2. the environment, no harmful gases being burned into the atmosphere and no empty cannisters blocking up landfill sites. Win Win!

The second, and possible most interesting feature. Is the fact it is also a power source. Yes A POWER SOURCE! Using the heat, the stove actually generates electricity which can be used to charge any USB device, including your smartphone, or used to charge USB lights and the like. Quite cool hey?

Now there doesn’t seem to be much information on how long it takes to cook food, or boil water (we are sure pressured gas must burn hotter) or on the amount of power you receive from say running it for 20 minutes. This is disappointing, and makes us worry a little but we are sure it will work great guns and this will be a re-sounding success.

Not only is there the portable BioLite Camping Stove, they have also produced a Homestove as well. No, this isn’t for your flat (though I guess it could be!), but aimed at helping third world countries who use open wood fires. Over 1.6 million people die from wood related smoke death each year, and as the BioLite cuts smoke emissions by upto 90% it is sure to be a huge success when pilot schemes are launched this year.

The camping stove is very cool to look at, and it is tiny! Just 8cm high when packed! You can pre-order now at $129 each (for the portable camping stove), and then the products will be shipped on first come first served basis over the coming months.

Beauty comes in many forms, but for the first time, could it be in a smartphone? Kieron-Scott Woodhouse and the team at ADzero hope so with their new Bamboo Smartphone.

Made from four year old organically grown bamboo specially treated for durability, it should be pretty much as tough as your usual plastics. Details are very scarce at this stage as you might expect but it will include a camera, and unique ‘ring flash’ which surrounds the camera’s lens to ensure even illumination and minimises shadows.

Currently it seems the handset will be approximately half the weight of an Apple iPhone, yet with a larger screen and running Android. We are promised the bamboo smartphone will be made from as many sustainable resources as possible but whether this will be true in production, we shall see.

After the recent media love, the phone will originally be launched in the UK, before being tested in other markets. No word on release date or pricing yet, but don’t expect it to appear in every day high street stores. We expect (and hope) it will be limited to boutique shops and quite a sort after bit of kit.

Now beauty may be one thing, but we just hope this phone also manages to have the hardware and usabily to back it up. Failing that, they could just make iPhone covers…. But we can’t wait to get our hands on one.

Well not to worry, as we have teamed up with Jaeger Menswear to bring you some of the latest fashion styles and your guide to each. Not only that, we have noticed they have a huge sale on still! So get in quick if you like any of them…!

Pea Coat

An all time classic and still one of my personal favourites, a must for anyone working in the city and a regular wearer of suits. It seems to work well with nearly all body shapes, especially a slimmer man. I find that the extra weight and natural, hard lines give the wearer added padding and automatically looks ‘bigger’ where it counts, across the shoulder, chest and of course the arms.

For me, I have always preferred a shorter length, with a tighter fit, especially around the waist. But that will mainly come down to personal preference. Don’t just think black either, A good navy will mix up your wardrobe well.

Quilted Jacket

Now, for me, a little past it’s sell by date, BUT it is still a great spring jacket and for those days when it is not quite cold enough for your full weapon of choice!

My advice would be to choose one that has an added element of style, unusual colour or just that little something quirky. This Jaeger is the perfect example with its single breast pocket and textured hem.

Trench Coat

Very similar to the mac, but just that little bit longer and heavier. Although connected and associated with flashers and perverts around the land, fear not! The long trench is a classic on trend style this winter.

Stay away from black and general dark colours, these longer style of jacket tend to work best with a natural / light tone that will offset a normal dark winter wardrobe. Make sure the design comes with a styled in belt and even if you aren’t the biggest fan, give it a whirl. It helps give the coat it’s shape and assuming you are even half slim, will give your body a great athletic shape.

Mac

The mac is fasting becoming THE coat of this winter, and without a doubt my favourite style. The subtle elegance of concealed buttons makes this design from Jaeger stand out from the rest, giving it a really clean look, and the streamlined shape will make sure it looks good on you.

Again, for a winter jacket I would opt for lighter shades, don’t worry about it getting dirty, with its showerproof fabric it will always be easy to clean. This jacket is also a little shorter than many of the others you see out and about which will make sure you stand out from the crowd.

Duffle Coat

The duffle has literally come full circle. Originally designed to be used by the British Navy (the toggles easy to fasten with large gloves on), I remember having one of these when I was 9 and hating it more than Barbie. However fast forward *cough* 15 years and you can’t help admire anyone who dons one today.

Today’s style dictates that all the jackets tend to be wool based, thick fabric with obvious toggles. Look for subtle styling & lines, and even a layered effect to add shape and the stand out factor.

That’s our rundown, and you can catch them all at at the Jaegers Mens Coats site. Which is your favourite?

Set to be released later this year, this is our first real and lengthy look at the new Spider-Man Film, The Amazing Spider-Man 3D.

Although we struggle to see this films angle, as it seemingly re-writes the other Spider-Man films, it does have the added aspect of Andrew Garfield playing Peter Parker. Which gives the character an extra arrogant edge that has perhaps been lacking in the past with Tobey Maguire playing the lead.

We have tobe honest, the trailer looks good, but for die hard fans, we have the feeling, this is just a film to add to franchise, but will it add anything in terms of real content? Only time will tell.

Recently leaked photos taken by a fan in Germany show just what we can expect when the official sets land later this year. As you can see from one of the shots, this was a very secret display, but they seemed to forget to put a roof on it!

The set seems to feature all of the characters you would expect, as well as various location scenes. Check out the pictures and let us know what you think.

Update:
Overnight David appeared at H & M’s flagship store in London Regent Street for the official launch of his new underwear range which is available online today.

For us, the range is a little, erm, beige. Take the small front label off and this could well be any underwear range from any middle of the road retailer. Disappointed? Yes indeed we are!

Check the snaps below and see for yourself. And try to ignore what we can only assume are computer generated legs…

Footballer David Beckham has teamed up with H&M for an exclusive new underwear range, with the TV advert debuting during the Super Bowl on 5th February. It’s an interesting move for H&M who have primarily concentrated on online advertising in the past and veered away from prime-time TV. The superbowl ad alone is said to cost them over $2 million. But with the draw of David Beckham in skimpy white boxers, and all of the potential additional advertising time that successful Superbowl ads can attract, this could be a winner for H & M.

Now, we havent managed to see any of the range yet, which will go on sale in H&M Stores from 2 February but we get a glimpse (a small one, cough…) from the ad preview below. The line will mainly include boxers and briefs, but will also feature vests, shorts and t-shirts.

You can also follow all the action by using the twitter hashtag #beckhamforhm – oh and of course follow us.

This coming weekend, the rugby population of the northern hemisphere goes nuts as the six nations begins when the French take on Italy in Paris, with changes in personnel, in management, and in players, it promises to be an exciting tournament. Lets look at each side and my predictions on places.

6th – Italy

I would love for Italy to do better than last, but unfortunately I can’t see it. They are still not a complete team and rely too heavily on the leadership of Sergio Parisse. Could scrape a win against Scotland, and may give another side a scare. But I predict no wins and a big wooden spoon for the Azurri.

Player to Watch – Luca Morisi The 21 Year old centre is in fine form this season and fully deserves his call up to the senior squad. Expect him to make a start against the French and turn some heads. Definitely one for the future.

5th – Scotland

Scotland have a point to prove after their abysmal world cup campaign, and they have the best possible chance to turn over a new look England side in their first game at Murrayfield. It will be interesting to see who Andy Robinson selects to face the red rose. With Ross Ford being handed the captaincy there seems to be no room for previous captain Alistair Kellock. Will Robinson decide to put more faith in the Edinburgh players he has in the squad after their great performances in the Heineken cup, or mix things up even further? Only time will tell. Will beat the Italians and may surprise the Irish but that will be the lot.

Player to watch – Lee Jones The Edinburgh wing is on fire at the moment, and has ripped a few defences apart already this season. I expect him to take a wing berth and possibly embarrass Chris Ashton.

4th – Ireland

The top 4 are going to be very close this year. But I think Ireland will be at the bottom of them. For the first time in the competitions 11 year history the Emerald Isle will be without the mercurial Brian O’Driscoll, which leaves a massive hole in the Irish midfield. Coach Declan Kidney will probably choose Keith Earls to fill the void. But his defensive frailties have been exposed by Manu Tuilagi and others in recent years so it could be a bad move. A tight win against the Italians and Scottish and possibly a win over the French. But will remain in fourth. Kidney has made no changes to the squad that bombed out of the world cup – and I think that is a major mistake.

Player to watch – None There are no new faces in the Irish squad.

3rd – France

New coach Phillipe Saint-Andre will want to banish the off-field issues surrounding the last world cup campaign under previous coach Marc Lievremont. However, he will be looking to build on an impressive display that almost won them the Webb Ellis Trophy. Much will rely on the form of Captain Thierry Dusatoir and Imanol Harrinordoquay, both are amazing footballers and have the ability to dominate a game. However I think a Welsh side out for revenge and a youthful England will come out on top.

Player to watch – Wesley Fofana The centre is performing well for Clermont, and would be an ideal partner for his club team mate Aurélien Rougerie.

2nd – England

Possibly being slightly biased, but I am hoping that this new look England will upset a few sides. They will turn up to Murrayfield with no arrogance and no divine right to win a game, they will be hungry to win. Interim head coach Stuart Lancaster named Halequins Flanker Chris Robshaw the successor to Lewis Moody as captain on Monday, this was rumoured to be Tom Wood but a toe injury has ruled him out the first 2 weeks of the tournament. However Lancaster believes many other players on the pitch should be leaders as well. Key men will be Ben Youngs and Toby Flood, the Leicester duo need to get the forwards working and the backline moving forward.

Player to Watch – Owen Farrell The son of the Rugby League great Andy Farrell is starting to step out his fathers massive shadow and is proving that he is the real deal. Seen currently as the long term option at number 10 for country, he has been operating outside compatriot Charlie Hodgson at 12 for club side Saracens. I would expect Lancaster to play Farrell at 12 to give him more time to make decisions.

1st – Wales

Captain Sam Warburton and his Welsh side will be firing on all cylinders after their exit at the semi finals of the world cup after promising so much. Warburton in particular will be looking to put behind him the red card that put them at a disadvantage against the French. I don’t expect them to take a grand slam, they could be beaten by an Irish side looking to avenge their defeat from the world cup. But they will score enough points to take it. Without Shane Williams in the side they will have to look to George North to start to achieve his potential as a devastating finisher.

Player to Watch – Harry Robinson The Rookie Blues wing is probably too young to get the nod over Leigh Halfpenny or George North, but is a very exciting prospect for the future, hopefully if he gets a chance we can see his class on the big stage.

Spartacus returns to our screens for its third series tonight in the UK. Although this isn’t a post to cover the series, just a quick recap on things where things were left if you’re needing a refresh:

Spartacus led the gladiators of the ludus owned by the House of Batiatus, in a revolt against their masters. This followed a series of traumatic events whereby Spartacus fights his way to the top of the gladiatorial food-chain and finds out that his beloved wife is enslaved and subsequently murdered, a plot concocted by his owner – Batiatus. Its also worth knowing that, in the prequel series, Gannicus was the champion who won his freedom through combat, and will be making a return to the fore.

If you’re a fan of the show you won’t need much convincing to tune in for yet another series of blood, guts and nudity. And of course featuring the following lovelies.

Lucy Lawless – Lucretia, Batiatus’ wife

Katrina Law – Mira

Viva Bianca – Ilithyia

Cynthia Addai-Robinson – Naevia

Brooke Williams – Aurelia (Varro’s wife)

Hanna Mangan-Lawrence – Seppia

If you do need any convincing (Joe hates it!), even just a cursory glance below should be enough…
