BMW's Secret Car

BMW have been working behind closed doors on a new sports car that runs via electric and petrol power. Well now everything is out in the open, but not quite how you would expect… Rather than leaked pictures appearing around the net, BMW have had the great idea of actually allowing people to follow the project through to its conclusion. They have aptly named the mini site, dontblogaboutthis and are using social sharing sites such as youtube and Flickr to upload all of their videos and pictures.

The currently matte black prototype looks as sexy as hell, featuring the rear end from the brand new 6-Series but with the front end of the Vision EfficientDynamics concept car which lept out in to the wild last year. We can tell the car is running narrow 195 tyres on aerodynamic wheels to reduce drag, as well as electric power. Though an engine can be heard in one video which suggests the inclusion of a petrol engine as well.

All in all we a thoroughly impressed both by the car, and BMW embracing today’s technology utilising social media sites. You could arge the blog looks a little homemade (given their huge budget) but for us it just adds to the appeal. So what do you think? Let us know.

Haye has built a solid reputation as heavyweight, taking the title with a points decision over the giant that is Russian Nikolai Valuev, and following that up with a successful defence over American John Ruiz earlier this year. Harrison however has fallen from grace since his Olympic Gold 9 years ago, having lost to a number of walk over opponents such as Danny Williams, Dominick Guinn and Martin Rogan. He was back in the Limelight last year, winning Sky’s Prizefighter.

Haye’s first choice should have been to fight one of the Klitschko brothers but problems (believe what you like) have meant that fight failed to materialise. For me this is a no win really for Haye, Harrison has got knockout power but Haye will literally dance rings round him with his speed and crisp strikes.

Apple TV

We really couldn’t be arsed to cover the Apple launch yesterday, you can read about that anywhere, literally my Nan told me about it in her mobility newsletter… Any way what we did think we would look at is the new Apple TV and what it might mean to you.

It started as a personal pet project of Steve Jobs and he really doesn’t seem to want to let it go so here we are again, you maybe remember eyeTV? Well this is the re-packaged version. The box is pretty damn sexy, think the mini mac, but smaller and black (see pics). There is no hard-drive and everything will be streamed direct. Once you have the box you will need to purchase a television show from iTunes (99c or 59p ish a pop for HD) or one of the latest films (around $4). Once purchased you have 48 hours to view (copy, rip, whatever) the program before you lose it forever. Bear in mind though, movies will be released on DVD release, not cinema release.

Now one of the best features (if it works) will be the ability to stream your music, movies, and photos from your Mac, PC, iPhone, iPod touch or iPad via wireless thanks to the new AirPlay functionality. Although not completely running yet (we will need to wait till the iOS 4.2 upgrade in November) this could be the game changer. For instance; you are watching a program on Apple TV from your iPhone and you have to rush out? Well just pause, get on the train or bus and continue watching there. No gaps, no searching, no nothing. Seamless…

What I would love to see in the UK is the ability to play from the BBC iPlayer, 4OD etc but at the moment no rumours on support. However once we can sync with the iPhone I can’t see it being to long before this option is available, especially with the mini USB port which means the cool kids will be jailbreaking Apple TV before they can spell it…

You will also find the remote app available for the iPhone, iPod Touch and iPad just to make it that little cooler if you are not keen in the included remote (below)…

On the box you will find 802.11n WiFi and an Ethernet port, HDMI video output, mini USB and optical audio. Throw in the swish stainless steel remote and to you my friends £99 or $99. You can of course check out more info over at Apple TV.

So what do you think? Let’s be fair, less that a ton for a media sever that looks this good is nothing so I can see it being a hit, as for paying for old TV and Films I just can’t see it catching on just yet…

Sharp 3D Smartphone

Let’s be fair, so far the new 3D revolution hasn’t really taken off. TV’s are expensive and not overly well supported and this has made consumers look elsewhere for their latest fix of tech. However Sharp have just shown off their new 3D mobile prototype at IFA 2010.

Including a 3D parallax screen (no glasses needed, similar to the Nintendo 3DS), a 3D camera on the back and a 3D enabled HDMI output the results on the proto-type don’t look overly spectacular but it is definitely a step in the right direction.

I would argue however, do we need 3D screens on our mobiles? I don’t really want my Mum in my face when she is calling me!! Though Angry Birds might look pretty good… Ha Ha!

Thoughts? Would it be worth a purchase with improvements in technology?

The Stig Revealed

In probably the anti-climax of the year the infamous Stig from one of our favourite TV programmes, Top Gear has finally been revealed as Ben Collins. WHO? I hear you ask? Exactly….

Collins is a stunt / racing driver from Bristol and has been the Stig for a number of years. Only 6 people knew his identity for sure, including presenters, Jeremy Clarkson, James May and Richard Hammond. The BBC had tried to stop Collins revealing himself through his autobiography claiming he had signed a confidentiality agreement and argued that revealing himself would spoil the show.

Collins has also appeared as James Bond’s stunt driver in the past.

I assume the BBC will looking for a new Stig, and I would like to put myself forward. I even still have my costume from New Years Eve…

New England Football Shirt

It seems our beloved national team that we just love to hate are putting the finishing touches to their new football strip. Leaked on the internet this morning the new strip comes just 6 months after the ill fated new red strip which the England boys wore so ‘successfully’ in South Africa.

Let’s be honest, the strip looks pretty good, you could argue about those gay stars on the read of the shirt, but it is nicely fitted (unless your a fat fucker like us… Mik) after being designed by Peter Saville but it has sparked criticism by fans who question the timing. With confidence in the England team, set-up and manager at an all time low it does seem a little of a strange decision, but I guess new start and all that and the FA want to start on the right foot…

Is that also a couple of new players I see in the line-up…? Not seen those before… ;-)

So what do you think? As Brits we love to hate our national teams as soon as things go badly, isn’t it about time we got behind them and supported them to the full? They are talented, and they can win things on their day… Thoughts?

New Mercedes SLK

After various disguised leaks on the internet in recent weeks, it seems that the car is finally out of the bag when it comes to the new Mercedes SLK. These shots were taken over the weekend in Germany and show the new SLK in pretty much all of it’s glory.

To be fair the styling hasn’t dramatically changed for the 2nd generation, but the pictures show the same two-piece folding metal hardtop, front nose from the SLS AMG supercar and trapezoidal exhaust pipes.

No news on the interior yet, but for power the entry model will have a 201bhp 1.8-litre CGI petrol, and for the first time a diesel will be available in the form of the 201bhp 2.4-litre CDI. There will also be a new 302bhp direct injection V-Series 3.5-litre V6 and a sports version is expected to be released including the new AMG twin-turbo 3.5-litre V6 which produces around 465bhp.
