Mac Apps now in the Directory

In addition to the iOS apps already listed, I’ve now added Mac Apps (Mac OS) to the directory. To view just the Mac Apps, simply select “Mac” from the Device dropdown and the list will automatically be filtered to display only apps for the Mac. There are only a handful of apps listed right now, but I am sure the list will grow over time as more are added to the Mac App Store.

Now I just need to edit my banner at the top of the page to include the ”Mac”.

After a few weeks off for some much needed family vacation time, I’ve made a small update to the app list consisting of seven new apps.

In addition to the app list update, I’ve also added a few new app categories which may now be used to filter the list…

Another 10 apps were added to the list today, bringing the grand total to 471 apps in the directory with still more to add.

Apple doesn’t give me an automated way to find or add these to the directory making it a manual and time-consuming process. That being said, I’ve built myself some tools and a devised a process which should allow me to make more frequent and timely updates. That being said, if you know of an app that isn’t in the list, please send me a quick note. Thanks.

Bug Fixes and Updates

It’s been a while hasn’t it? I won’t go into all the reasons why (of which there are many), but I am trying to free up a little time to devote to the site. With that in mind I have a few changes to mention…

Last week, I posted a small update the the App List and I am working on another update.

Unfortunately, I found that I had some illegal characters in the database for a few apps and this was wreaking havoc with the sorting of the list when certain parameters were selected. The illegals characters have been removed and the sorting should now be functioning normally.

I’ve also made some changes to the default sort directions when different ”Sort By” parameters are selected. Currently the list sorts descending by Date Added, which shows you the newest apps on top, but if you then selected to sort by Price the list would refresh but still be in descending order with the most expensive apps on top. Now when you select a either App Name, Price or Developer as the the Sort By parameter, the list will refresh but will also automatically change to ascending order, which I think makes a lot more sense. The default order for Date Listed remains unchanged, with the newest apps still listed on top. Of course any of these setting can be changed just by selecting the appropriate parameter or direction in the sort bar.

I added a few apps to the list today, and while I normally list the new apps here in the news feed, I am no longer going to do that. Instead, I made a change to the list’s default sort behavior so that it now shows the most recently added apps on top. Prior to this change the list presenting itself in alphabetical order (by App Name), but now you will see the most recently added apps on top, with the batch of apps added on a particular date sorted alphabetically. In other words, the nine apps I added today will all appear at the top of the list by default, sorted alphabetically by name. I think this will prove to be useful as it will allow you to quickly see the most recently added apps without the need to resort the list.

This default sort change has created one small issue where if you select price as the sort parameter, the list will sort with the most expensive on top (descending). For the time being you’ll just have to select “ascending” after you’ve selected price if you want to see the Free apps on top.

PS – I know there are more apps to be added, and I am working on it.

Sorry for the lack of updates. I’ve had a really busy month at work combined with a bit of travel, but enough with the excuses. I’m going to try to have an update pushed out within the next few days.
