<itunes:summary>You've asked for it, and now you have it - an interview with the guy that designs the speakers for RBH Sound (and their sister companies Destination Audio, EMP Tek, and Status Acoustics). Shane Rich is the Technical Director and Vice President of Engineering at RBH. Topics include:

A bit of history about Shane.

	Shane's design process.

How long it takes to go from idea to shipping.

Speaker specs - what should consumers focus on?

Too much versus too little amp power.

What does it mean when you say an amp is clipping?

	Amplifier size in subwoofers.

Ported vs. Sealed speakers and stuffing ports.

How RBH measures their speakers (see below for the equipment Shane uses out in the field).

What is driver breakup and driver compression?

How a crossover affects the performance of a speaker.

	Supertweeters - fact or crap?

Studio Monitors vs. Home Theater speakers.

The EMP Impression Series speakers - price, value, and design.

What is on the horizon for RBH and EMP.

Here is the portable test gear Shane uses with his laptop (you'll be surprised):

	Software - TrueRTA v3.4

	Mic - Behringer ECM8000

Preamp - Behringer Shark DSP 110

<itunes:summary>ooVoo is definitely working now (though Dina spends a goodly amount of time pixelated). Can AV Rant be turned into a drinking game? Tom thinks so. Tom loves his 80" projection screen - even more now that he spent the weekend on a 32" CRT. Evan has a question, Tom has sort of an answer. Is Rock Band making more or less musicians? Vote now. 3-D is still a fad in Tom's mind even though it sort of is doing what it says. Digital Personal Property - confusing or just retarded. Tom's mad a RBH though he doesn't exactly have love for Paradigm. Thanks for listening and don't forget to vote for us at Podcast Alley.

This week Dina and Tom discuss PlayOn the Wii, Best Buy theft policies, and something about Samsung. Engadget has a poll (and so does AV Rant). YouTube tries to make money - for them and you. Jessica Beal is dangerous (and not just if your wife catches you looking at her). Bad decisions in Star Wars. Tom's thoughts on the new PS3, bitstreaming in general, and the MLB. Roku gets a little respect from both hosts. Tom has some nice words about his sons? Thanks for listening and don't forget to vote for us at Podcast Alley.

What is video calibration and why would you want to do it?
Biggest problems with displays.
What Joe Consumer can do to improve their display with minimal investment.
When you might think about calling in a professional.
Is your "cheap" display "worth" the cost of calibration?
What are the different calibration controls on a typical display?
RBG calibration without a meter? What about those color filters?
Importance of picking the right display type.
Tips for shopping for your display to ensure maximum calibration options.
What does an ISF certified display really mean?
Importance of room.
Calibration checkups - when and how much.
Transposing settings from one device to another - when is it OK?
Why High Def is not all that.

Clint introduces his new title: NCISCISSSCIS which stands for: Not a
Consumer Interested in Silly Computers Interfering in Steve's Superficial Slaughter of Common Internet Stupidity. We talk about Watchmen (now on Blu-ray), graphic novels, 3D movies and IMAX, 240Hz video processing, truly 'retro" remote controls, inventions for people who don't need their money (but we repeat ourselves...), the new cable company remote DVRs, budget AV receivers and which are the best deals (and which are NOT), Mac love... and... AND.... wait for it.... the NEW Audioholics 3.0 website. We don't want to link it up directly, but it's http://beta.audioholics.com:90 for those interested in checking it out before anyone else!

This week we discuss upcoming interviews, Tom's new baby, and over-sized subs and ugly speakers. What does Andrew think of 120Hz processing? What do you do when you press the wrong button on your remote? Trouble shooting 101. A little Radio Shack love. Beldin and Blue Jeans make history. A bit of a discussion about Project Natal. Tom makes a prediction that he hopes is wrong. Room EQ Wizard and you - a primer a la Andrew (check below for a list of what you'll need). When is getting caught with porn a more desirable outcome. We have a deal and some advice this week. The new Yamaha receiver has Tom completely underwhelmed. A bit of news on Imeem and Pandora and why Tom is considering switching his vote to Pandora. Andrew is looking for Spotify to come to the US. Thanks for listening and don't forget to vote for us at Podcast Alley.

For those not in the know, Radio Paradise is pretty awesome. Cablevision won their lawsuit and now we'll see remote DVRs... someday. Tom's dad got a Velodyne sub - Tom gives the lowdown. BTW, Tom is working with the Audioholics store to make sure UPS doesn't do to your sub what they did to his dad's. How do you match a center channel? Do DVD players sound different? Is active room correction all that and a bag of chips? A bit about illegal downloads. Tom got a new phone - and so far loves it (which probably just means he hasn't spent very much time with it). <itunes:summary>Dina is back (yea!) but not for long (boo!). Things will go back to normal next month, however, so we've all got something to look forward to. Tom's dad is getting a new sub and Tom is jealous (looks like the price went up since Tom's dad ordered). Yamaha has a new HTiB receiver out which Tom thinks is pretty cool. Oh, and Marantz has a SACD player out that Tom doesn't like because of the color? Oh, and the price. And the lack of multichannel. And... well you get the picture. How important is low end response on a bookshelf speaker? What's the deal with first looks on Audioholics? Tom's cursory review of the Diana Krall: Live in Rio and Blue Man Group: How to Be a Megastar Live! blu-rays. One addition, the video quality of the Diana Krall one sucks. Also, there is no real logical reason why your sub would bet a better workout on the Krall disc rather than the Blue Man. A few listeners have questions about speaker choices. Dina has a question about how you know which reviewer to trust. Tom has a deal that everyone can afford. Also, if you are looking for a new system, the Audioholics Store has some crazy package deals right now. Check them out! Thanks for listening and don't forget to vote for us at Podcast Alley.

<itunes:summary>Guest co-host number 2 is Andy and he joins Tom this week. They tackle a number of issues this week including the complexity of electronics and how that will affect the sales staff of tomorrow, game lag and displays, and using professional monitors instead of home theater speakers. Ted wants to know if little metal bowls could possibly make a system sound better. No, no they can't. All things being equal, what's better, bookshelves or floorstanding speakers? What's the deal with di-pole speakers and surrounds? How do you run multiple surrounds if you have more than one seat? (Here's that link to Gene's article Tom was talking about.) Does Tom actually like Shia La Beouf? Since when did $50 become a "deal" for 3 discs? What is on the horizon as far as downloads vs. discs? How does Redbox play into it? Andy is a talker so this one is a bit long. Thanks for listening and don't forget to vote for us at Podcast Alley.
