Tom has completed reviews of the Wicked Audio Evac and the Audio-Technica ATH-CP700 headphones. A discussion. Liz is looking at the Phillips SHL5905BK/10 CitiScape Uptown headphones. The were the most impressive she heard. Any thoughts? Oh yeah, and Apple had a few announcements as well. We run those down for you too. <itunes:summary>Liz is very busy and can’t make the podcast this week. Rob gets unfired for one more week and steps in. Rob is dying to talk to Tom about his new home theater screen and the proper size. Check out Seymour AV for their screen types and offerings. Here is the one that Tom was talking about with the manual masking system. There is a price tag on the new IMAX home theater. If you aren’t already on the waiting list, you’ll have to spend your $2 million on something else. Rob has a few comments on the Joe Kane interview over at the Home Theater Geeks podcast which leads into a discussion of why our displays still don’t match what they are using for movies. CNET is now listing Lag as a statistic. An important thing to know if you are buying a display primarily to be used for gaming. Is the Atari ET game landfill a reality or an urban legend? We’re about to find out. </itunes:summary>

Tom really doesn’t think it is necessary, Liz thinks it is a little late. PLAiR – a discussion of the streaming solution and how to properly pronounce the name. What would make Iron Man 3 better? Water spraying in your face of course. Denon has new IN-Command receivers – Tom breaks down the AVR-X1000, X2000, X3000, and (you guessed it) X4000 (the X3000/X4000 article is already up on Audioholics – look for the X1000/X2000 soon). The IllumiRoom – vaporware or not, Tom and Liz think it is cool. Neilson is going to start tracking online viewing – this could be the most important moment in streaming since…well…Netflix started streaming. </itunes:summary>

<itunes:summary>Tom starts off the podcast with a big, fat, “Thanks” for the coffee. It’s already being put to good use. For the first time in a long time, we have a “This Week in Netflix.” And for the first time in, maybe, ever, it is all good stuff. To start with, they added a bunch of subscribers. They’re offering an increased number of streams per household. But, most importantly, they don’t seem to care if you share your password. Lastly, they have a new, original series…for the Twilight fans according to Liz. How do you feel about having shows resurrected? 3D printing seems to be taking over for some CGI. Tom and Liz are fans of this. How do you feel? Tom has some information on some new Rotel amps including a discussion on Class D versus Class A/B and the new IMAX Private Theater. Image theft. Sure, you may not be able to do much about it, but you should at least know when it happens and who did it. </itunes:summary>

<itunes:summary>We’re late but it’s Liz’s fault. And there was all sorts of noise and stuff on her end so…Tom did his best. She’ll say it was an open window but it sure sounds like someone unwrapping candy to me. This week, Tom asks for Liz’s reaction to the hiatus. They discuss monetizing the show. Feel free to chime in over email or on the Facebook page. Ron has a question about TV size. Sanus has a new cabling solution that Liz thinks is ugly (not that it matters) and Tom thinks is cool. Especially for the price. Comcast is encrypting “free” channels because…well…they suck. Tom has a bit of a meltdown over some Emotiva news. And by “bit” we mean “call the nuthouse, we have a new patient.” Tom has a continued (he forgot he already ranted on the first bit before) Yamaha rant. Liz shares an article interviewing Steve Hoffman – one of the most renowned recording professionals in the music industry. Want to be part of a reality show snuff film? Here’s your chance. Here’s a link to the Dilbert cartoon Liz mentioned. </itunes:summary>

Tom is off exploring the world, so Rob steps in once again. This we we talk about television news. Nielson will be partnering with Twitter to get show metrics. Liz is excited, Rob not so much. The FCC CALM Act comes into effect this week (but cable companies who can demonstrate hardship still have a year to comply). Rob is pumped, Liz reminds you that your volume button and your dynamic range features may still get some use. The BBC Red Button now comes via the internet on your Tivo, rather than embedded in the show. Liz is going to check it out when she gets back to London. Rob saw The Hobbit in the theatres: his take on 48fps, and coverage of the furor around the Dark Knight Rises Blu-Ray aspect ratio inside. Let us know your thoughts if you’ve seen either! Rob answers a listener question about DIY HTPCs and your set-top box options. A list of the products mentioned is below the jump.

Kaleidescape releases a new Blu-ray bit for bit download service – but only for their products. Rob has hopes to see something similar for mass market consumption. Denon employee wins powerball, vows to keep working. Tom calls BS on that one. Netflix is bringing you content, but at a high cost. Will it be worth it? More importantly, will they have to raise their prices? Amazon has an unlimited service just for kids. Tom is very interested but not enough to buy a new Kindle Fire. Netflix increases resolution by reducing file size. Will better encoding give you what you want? Not if you want surround, apparently. Two tips of the day from Gene – Bass Management and Hot Swapping Speaker Cables. Targeted advertising built in to newest Sony TVs. What’s your take? Pop Secret builds an app to sell popcorn? </itunes:summary>

<itunes:summary>Rob steps in for Liz because Tom can’t get up in the morning. This week, it is all about video quality and streaming. The new 4K resolution players are being announced. You’ve already heard of the one from Sony, but Red has one as well. A rebuttal to the “HBO is making me pirate” argument makes a surprising amount of sense. Even if we don’t like to hear it. Mitsubishi drops their RPTV line, Sony and Panasonic have record lows, and Rob is worried about what it all means. Netflix gets an exclusive with Disney and wants to be HBO while Chill.com wants to sell you DRM-free content. Redbox streaming is delayed (well, it was a leak to begin with so no one should be surprised). Tom previews his reviews of the Dirac HD Player app (increases the quality of your stock earbuds), I-MEGO Throne Gold headphones, Phiaton PS 210 BTNC bluetooth/noise canceling headphones, and RHA SA950i headphones. </itunes:summary>

The House of Cards trailer surprises both Tom and Liz as being something that they are actually interested in. If you have $25,000 to spend on a TV, do you really need an incentive to buy? Sony promises free 4k “delivery solution” loaded with full length 4k movies with every purchase. Get out those checkbooks. The Roku/3M streaming portable projector gets a review. Tom and Liz weigh in. Tom helps a friend shop for a processor. A comparison of the Emotiva UMC-200  and Outlaw Audio Model 975 processors. Very different processors for very different consumers. Both priced under $600. Tom makes his big announcement. </itunes:summary>
