<itunes:summary>Dina is back (yea!) but not for long (boo!). Things will go back to normal next month, however, so we've all got something to look forward to. Tom's dad is getting a new sub and Tom is jealous (looks like the price went up since Tom's dad ordered). Yamaha has a new HTiB receiver out which Tom thinks is pretty cool. Oh, and Marantz has a SACD player out that Tom doesn't like because of the color? Oh, and the price. And the lack of multichannel. And... well you get the picture. How important is low end response on a bookshelf speaker? What's the deal with first looks on Audioholics? Tom's cursory review of the Diana Krall: Live in Rio and Blue Man Group: How to Be a Megastar Live! blu-rays. One addition, the video quality of the Diana Krall one sucks. Also, there is no real logical reason why your sub would bet a better workout on the Krall disc rather than the Blue Man. A few listeners have questions about speaker choices. Dina has a question about how you know which reviewer to trust. Tom has a deal that everyone can afford. Also, if you are looking for a new system, the Audioholics Store has some crazy package deals right now. Check them out! Thanks for listening and don't forget to vote for us at Podcast Alley.

<itunes:summary>Guest co-host number 2 is Andy and he joins Tom this week. They tackle a number of issues this week including the complexity of electronics and how that will affect the sales staff of tomorrow, game lag and displays, and using professional monitors instead of home theater speakers. Ted wants to know if little metal bowls could possibly make a system sound better. No, no they can't. All things being equal, what's better, bookshelves or floorstanding speakers? What's the deal with di-pole speakers and surrounds? How do you run multiple surrounds if you have more than one seat? (Here's that link to Gene's article Tom was talking about.) Does Tom actually like Shia La Beouf? Since when did $50 become a "deal" for 3 discs? What is on the horizon as far as downloads vs. discs? How does Redbox play into it? Andy is a talker so this one is a bit long. Thanks for listening and don't forget to vote for us at Podcast Alley.

<itunes:summary>Dina's back and of course the first thing on the menu is Rob. A bunch of stuff about video games including XBox rumors and the Halo killer. LG has a 15" OLED coming out. HDMI 1.4 Ethernet poll is discussed along with a new acquisition for Amazon. The brightening of speakers - good, bad, or just screechy - Tom discusses. Some new interviews are in the works (hopefully). Mathew has a good suggestion, Monster has a new cable that Tom doesn't hate, and Tom's son's birthday party was a hit. A story from Gene. ooVoo is furthermore banished from this podcast (4 crashes in 30 minutes) so the video is on hold until we can figure out something better. Thanks for listening and don't forget to vote for us at Podcast Alley.

Tom and Dina both went to the movies (not together). He saw Star Trek and Dina saw Up in 3D. Both report. Why does Speed Racer suck on Blu-ray? No, it isn't the subject matter. New firmware out for Yamaha receivers. A cool new deal. Dina talks about the guest co-host auditions - look for an announcement soon. Tom reviews a pair of $6000 bookshelves. What does he think? Get the preview. Thanks for listening and don't forget to composite triple beatvote for us at Podcast Alley.

A few listener questions including one about audition music, one about line level inputs on a sub, and a third about the new SVS EQ. Update on the contest. An evaluation of the PS3 by Tom (where he says oh so nice things... yeah, that's the ticket). Clint's reviewing the new Oppo Blu-ray player and gives you a preview. What's the deal with GameStop's return policy and how can you use it to your advantage? NAD confuses Tom and Clint (that just sounds wrong). E-Play - the GameStop/Amazon killer? Tom calibrated his ears. Thanks for listening and don't forget to vote for us at Podcast Alley.

Tom got his PS3 (yea!) and a new Xbox (double yea!) on the same day (mind-blowingly yea!). First impressions of the PS3 - smug. That's right, he said it. A few comments from the Midwest. A dead Belkin Powerline AV+ means you'll have some more info on customer support soon. Denon's got a new line of AVRs (receivers) and Blu-ray players with LOTS of acronyms. Tom's thinking about finally getting some blackout curtains (he ordered them and will share the link if they don't suck), Clint gives some advice. Why Tom thinks J.J. Abrams is smarter than Joss Whedon. And yes, that is a snowball in hell. Tom is going to jail and so is Dina. An exceptional deal from the Audioholics store contained within. Check it out. <itunes:summary>Two years of AV Rant and Dina still hasn't killed Tom? He must be doing something wrong. If you missed the QA last week, stick around, we'll have some more in the future. Got some old HD DVDs you'd like to trade in for Blu-rays? Red2Blu is the answer. Can you get an honest opinion about a speaker? Tom weighs in. A few listener questions are addressed including the purpose of the RGB Gain/Cut adjustments (some additional info here and here), graphing the frequency response of your room, and whether or not Blu-ray is worth it. Best Buy goes vinyl, newspapers are dying, a review of an HT Guys interview, and Dina loves the Midwest. Loves it so hard it hurts. Great job HDMI with your destimulus plan. The sound quality for the video (when it doesn't cut out) should be good - we've done everything we can from our side. This week Tom and Dina discuss thanks, PS3s, and the some online drama (vaguely). Tom had a few people over and reports on their interaction with his system. Dina thinks there should be a prize - Tom agrees but doesn't know what. Tom's XBox is dying which does exactly what you think to his mood. Best Buy is going down... hard. Tom is unimpressed with OLED and California. A hands-off review of the Soundcast, SubCast. Thanks for listening and don't forget to vote for us at Podcast Alley.

<itunes:summary>This week Clint's in for Dina who was called away on an emergency vacation. Thanks for the pic Rick. A few more cheap shots at J.J. Abrams. A few TV show reviews. A few Rob theories. Clint's take on the shootout - from the trenches. Clint pushes our family friendly rating. Preview of the Infinity Classia C336 review. Clint's got a new projector in for review and a massage chair. And you wonder why Tom is so bitter. Chevy Volt has an energy efficient sound system - Tom and Clint would accept the larger carbon footprint for a better sound system. More on green policy. Our first suggestion for no/low cost system improvements. Thanks for listening and don't forget to vote for us at Podcast Alley.

Here's a Jeremy pic that I didn't have time to add to the podcast file but it was so awesome I wanted to include it. Yes, that is Clint.

<itunes:summary>Our second video seems to be a bit better in a dark Dina, shiny forehead Tom sort of way. Still has audio dropouts but fewer (though longer so perhaps it's a wash). Still a work in progress. Lots of stuff on the menu today. A new music poll is in the works. AV Rant is on Facebook now thanks to Ted. Brad had a question about bi-amping - which bored Dina. Tom thinks Twilight is stupid (duh!). Tom got his coupon, now he just needs to use it. Bob loves his height channels. What does Patrick Duffy and a stuffed crab have in common? Awesomeness. Netflix says they're sorry for sucking. OnLive - your next game "console"? The Mentalist makes Tom mental. Thanks for listening and don't forget to vote for us at Podcast Alley.

A review that Tom thought was funny but no one else is probably going to get. What the heck is Dolby ProLogic IIz anyhow? SciFi gets a new name - sort of. A new music game is due out this summer, Dina can't wait. Check below for the video - first ever. Not the greatest quality but we're working on it. Here's our first attempt at video. We're having some audio dropouts (sorry about that) but it isn't bad. These videos are unedited and may contain strong language (not this one but in the future) and bad lighting. This is a work in progress.
