Yeah, I was surprised when Dina said she received zero emails. I would expect she'd have a least one fan, you know the kind that lives up in Point Barrow Alaska...or South Pole. :P

Wow, I've managed to poke-fun at both Tom and Dina in the same podcast! I'm on a roll! :D

Dina, welcome back! I'm still two podcasts behind and trying to catch up, but great to hear you both back in action. Kind of funny, when you were talking about new movies it sounded like you kept saying "The Last Earbender". I was trying to figure out when my wife made a movie :)

Ducking and running....

My email to Dina came back as "undeliverable"! It looks as though Dina's avrant address is being forwarded to another email account, but my message couldn't get through!

So before we go saying that nobody emailed Dina, we really must find out if others have had this same problem!

Dina, you wouldn't want to miss all of your fan mail, would you? (or maybe it's just me who's blocked or something :p )

That's too funny... I woke up one morning in a really pissy mood and wrote a blog after reading that Avatar was coming back to theaters.

Great podcast as usual even if Dina is faking about having a scheduling conflicts to get attention. :-x Just kidding... hope she sticks around to counter-balance Tom's antics.

Aussies are also fond of affixing the letter "o" to the end of anything they have an affinity for, thus the Bottle Store becomes the Bottle-O.

So if you make any friends out there, look foward to being referred to as Tom-O.

Tom,
As an American ex-pat; you are likely to be know as a "yank" (or "bloody yank" in the pejorative). As you probably know already, an American car is a "yank tank". If you want to insult a brit, call him (not her) a "burke".
Of course Aussie's are favorably known as either a "bloke" or a "sheila".
You could watch "The Adventures of Barry McKenzie" to get the entire dialect.

Interesting, South Africans also refer to the British or people of British decent as pommies.

It's not really a nice term, although not really offensive it's usually meant negatively.

Hey! Fun to have the video back and not a moment too soon! Definitely needed to watch this one with all of the Otter Box descriptions. There's nothing quite like trying to describe shapes and textures and little ports and flaps in words, is there? :p

So what model and year Mazda did you get, Tom? I kinda have cars on the brain right now because I just ordered a new 2011 Ford Edge Limited! Woohoo! :D

I'm a bit nutty because the 2011 Edge hasn't even been manufactured yet and I'm going to have to wait 1 or 2 months for my factory order to even arrive! But I just had to jump on the current incentives. I don't mind haggling, but the deals that Ford Canada had going until Aug. 30 were pretty darn good and being able to apply them to a brand new model (and not just the close-out models) was too good an opportunity to pass up!

So goodbye, extra cash for the next couple of years :p But I'm pretty stoked. My 2004 Toyota Matrix has served me well, but I've been aching for an upgrade.

The thing that most excites me about the Edge? It's quiet! Yup, all the extra power and room; all the cool tech with Sync and voice commands and the new MyFord Touch 8-inch touch-panel control; the leather interior and power/memory settings for everything; the built-in subwoofer and 11-speaker sound system. All of that stuff and the thing that I'm looking forward to the most is how quiet the new interior is :p

You know me and sound-proofing. Ha!

Fun to have the video back and not a moment too soon! Definitely needed to watch this one with all of the Otter Box descriptions. There’s nothing quite like trying to describe shapes and textures and little ports and flaps in words, is there? :p

So what model and year Mazda did you get, Tom? I kinda have cars on the brain right now because I just ordered a new 2011 Ford Edge Limited! Woohoo!

I’m a bit nutty because the 2011 Edge hasn’t even been manufactured yet and I’m going to have to wait 1 or 2 months for my factory order to even arrive! But I just had to jump on the current incentives. I don’t mind haggling, but the deals that Ford Canada had going until Aug. 30 were pretty darn good and being able to apply them to a brand new model (and not just the close-out models) was too good an opportunity to pass up!

I think we've got a long way to go before non-glasses 3D sets with wide enough functional viewing areas are reality. From what I understand, the non-glasses sets have very defined "sweet spots".

Andy S - you hit the nail in the head there! I'm more interested in 3D than most people, but the glasses are holding me back! There absolutely needs to be a standard! I'd want a Panny plasma ( or better yet, a 3D 1080p front projector ) in my theatre room, but I'd for sure want a matte-screen, full-array, local-dimming 3D LCD - like the upcoming XVT3D line from Vizio - in the living room and for gaming! There is no way in heck though that I'm going to buy multiple pairs of glasses for each display!

Who knows, maybe Toshiba's recent announcement that they will show a glasses-free 3D LCD before the end of the year will render the whole issue moot! I'm not holding my breath for that though :p

I read an interesting piece on universal 3D glasses awhile back on HDGuru:

http://hdguru.com/compatible-3d-glasses-no-such-thing/1959/

The main point being, even if you can do the timing correctly on the various brands of sets, they all have a different color filter in the stock glasses, which is not easily simulated by a theoretical "universal" pair of glasses.

They really need to standardize. I think it would help the whole industry, just like how once Blu-ray finally won, sales grew faster.

Until that happen, people like me will sit out a market they aren't that interested in anyway.

Welcome back to the dynamic duo! Thanks to Rob, Leif, Tim and Hollis for keeping us all engaged in home theater talk while Tom got his posts dug in.

Tom, where are the Audioholics deals that AV Rant used to feature?

Spread the word!

Totally off topic, but "The Walking Dead" will begin its first season on AMC and AMC HD starting Halloween, Sunday, Oct. 31 at 10pm ET/PT !

For those who are unfamiliar with the (awesome) graphic novel of the same name, "The Walking Dead" is a character-driven horror/drama about an injured police officer in search of his wife and child in the aftermath of a zombie apocalypse. While there are certainly similarities and allusions to many other "zombie" movies and stories, the real brilliance here is the character interaction and the tense and emotional situations that arise when virtually impossible choices must be made in the name of survival and family.

AMC's television version comes in the form of a short 6-episode first season, but there is a lot of reason to hope for future seasons. The early footage is faithful (though not slavish) to the comic book and extremely compelling, so it is my hope that word of mouth and very positive critical reviews will result in very high ratings so that this show will continue!

So, Tom, get ready for me to be like "a dog with a bone" (as you once put it) about this one! I'm still after the HT Guys about "Breaking Bad" :p But I actually think that Tom - and everyone else! - will really love "The Walking Dead", even without me pestering the heck out of them :D

So check it out! I can't wait!!
