Land of Promise

Abraham is called to leave his country, his family, and his father’s house to go to a place that God will show him. But God had not shown him yet; this was so he would walk by faith and not by sight. Each part of the command corresponded to a promise that was dependent upon Abraham’s obedience. Abraham would lose much in exile but he will gain in the end. The blessings upon Abraham would not merely be for himself, but he would be a medium of blessing to others. God promises His providential protection and care of Abraham. God used the obedience of Abraham to bless all the families of the earth, because from his line would come the Messiah. When we step out in obedience to the commands and call of God we cannot calculate or estimate the extent of the blessing that God will bring to others through us. Abraham did not depart alone. The call was personal to Abraham but although he obeyed the call as an individual he did so within community. When God purposes to do a redemptive work He does not only call individuals, but He calls a community, a Church, His Body. Lot went with Abraham and so did Sarah his wife. God called both Abraham and Sarah to play complimentary roles in His purpose of redemption. And they were called to compliment each other through different roles and responsibilities. Together, united by their faith in God, they were used for the redemptive purposes of God and from both of them came the seed of Christ. When Abraham entered Canaan he was not alone in the land of promise. He did not look around at what he saw but he looked to the LORD by faith and held onto His promises. He had no descendants or land. But he still held onto the promises of God by faith.

Keep Your Lamps Burning

We must be made ready for the coming of the Lord. We must not focus only on the present and ignore the eternity to come. Be longsuffering, be patient, persevere, and do not be distracted. We are to build up and establish our faith here and now. The blessings of this life are small compared to the blessings of eternity. The return of Christ is drawing near. Be ready at all times to leave this world and enter into rest. We are to wait awake for the Master to come. We must not live in a state without vision. We must mature and not remain in a place of continual immaturity. We must keep the fire alive and burning. How are you using your time? Only so much time has been given for personal growth and faith. We are to develop deep faith and dependence upon God. Do not allow the world to dull this vision. Those that are striving and persevering will be found by their Master doing what they are supposed to do. Watch and pray! What is drawing our attention? What is our life being lived for? Did I make full use of the means of grace? Did it all pass me by and profit me nothing? We must examine ourselves by this truth. We must not become so focused on the things of the earth that our spiritual life dies. We must sever from our life anything that will render us unprepared for the return of Christ. The unfaithful servant refuses to acknowledge the reality of the times. This is common in the Church. People refuse to respond when God speaks to them and they come under delusion. Do not lose sight of the coming of Christ! Let us be faithful to carry out what we have learned; let us be ready for the return of Christ. Let us keep our lamps burning.

The Thoughts of the Lord

This is a letter that was sent by Jeremiah the prophet to those that were carried away captive to Babylon. The year is 597 BC and 10,000 people have been carried away. This letter is opposing the voices of the false prophets that were telling the people that their captivity would be brought to an end speedily. At the very beginning of the letter Jeremiah makes it clear that the Lord had caused the people of Judah to be carried away captive. He had allowed all this to take place because of the refusal of the people of Judah to repent. Jeremiah was concerned that the exiles would be excited and led astray by the words of the false prophets promising what they wanted to hear rather than the truth. Jeremiah was concerned that the exiles would begin to take their lives into their own hands; they would try to dictate and to the situation and force change to take place. The Lord had revealed to Jeremiah that the captivity would last seventy years and that God alone would be the One to restore them, they would be unable to restore themselves. Jeremiah commands the people to dwell exactly where they are and live normal lives. But to live normal lives in hope of restoration! To live normal lives by faith. Because to listen to the delusional dreams of the false prophets and act in hasty ways would be in rebellion against what the Lord was doing. Jeremiah reminds the people that all would take place according to God’s timing, not according to their own timing. Jeremiah was telling the people to wait for the work of God, to wait in hope, to wait in expectation, and to wait in faith, because the Lord would deliver them. The people must surrender to God’s thoughts, plans, and purposes.

God Alone Gives Us Peace

Correct thinking requires a correct heart. The heart stores all the mind allows to be stored there. Out of the heart proceeds all sin, what we say results from what is stored in the heart. As we think in our hearts, so we are. We are responsible for what we think about. It doesn’t matter what we say, it matters what we do. We must allow God to take control of our thoughts. God places His peace in our hearts. We must enforce the truths that we believe. The proving process takes place every time we walk by faith during trials. Then God gives us peace that surpasses all understanding. We must continue to trust in the Lord with all our heart. We must acknowledge God to be first and foremost. We must cast down every thought and bring it into subjection to Christ. Every thought must be viciously brought down! What we think becomes who we are. We must conquer the enemies and remain in peace. We must be filled with the Holy Spirit to have our minds renewed by the power of God. Do not be anxious about anything. Do not base your success or failure on how you perform. We must leave all our cares at the feet and Christ! We must trust God and not ourselves. God fills the believer with peace as long as they do not seek to overcome anxiety in their own strength. We must allow God to guard our hearts and minds. Do not worry, it is the opposite of faith and leaves God out of our thinking. What we think about is what we become. We must hold to His Word as the final authority. We must rest our minds on God. Let us think upon what is noble, just, pure, and lovely. Meditate on the things that will make you like God. Then the God of peace will be with us.

Gethsemane

Gethsemane is a place of great mental and spiritual suffering. To suffer is to go through an experience. Each disciple will face a similar test as Christ faced. All Christians must remain united with Christ through sufferings and experiences. One must despise self and follow after Christ. Jesus warns those who want to run from their Gethsemane that they cannot be saved. We must give up our rights to ourselves and die to ourselves. Christ did not want to suffer as He did but He said, “not My will but Thy will be done.” This is a change in nature, habits, character, and will. Our thinking is the key that changes everything else. The only way to know is to will to do His will. The only way to holiness is through obedience. This is obedience leading to righteousness. Our mind is not our own, we must stay in Christ. Incorrect thinking leads to bad habits. Habits become our nature. We must get our thinking into shape and be disciplined. We are to live in faith not lust or fear. Our thinking must turn into actions. None of us can claim knowledge without experience. We must put things into practice before we speak about it. We need to work things out before we speak. Are you acting according to how you think? Do you speak to others as one who has put into practice what you are saying? Do not think you are something you are not! Gethsemane is to do, not simply to talk. Christ left Gethsemane a willing sacrifice. We must arrive at the truth even if we don’t like the way to get there. We must hear and act; our Gethsemane must be a personal event. Gethsemane is a place of refinement. May we say like Christ in the midst of trials, “Not my will but Thy will be done.”

How Small A Whisper

What is the purpose in suffering and trials? Suffering means to undergo an experience. All Christians will experience a continual baptism into Christ and will die to self. We will go through hard times but He will be with us to teach us. We will suffer for God’s sake and undergo many experiences. This how we will further be made into His image. Patience in suffering brings about His work in our lives. It costs to learn to persevere. How can we endure? We must fall back into the arms of grace. No weapon or tongue can stand against us, and the righteousness that is found in Christ! We must be disciplined to be Christ’s disciples. Obedience is worked out in us through fear and trembling. It is God who does this work in us as we walk by faith. No flesh shall glory in His presence. We must allow the Potter to do His work in the clay. He is the Potter and we are the clay. We must walk before Him in humility and weakness. What we have learned must be worked out in us. All things must be shaken so that which cannot be shaken may remain. Christianity is an ongoing personal relationship with God through Christ. Christianity is not about us “doing good” but it is about surrendering our life to Christ and living by faith. This is how our ideals become facts. Do not hide behind the false peace of the world. We must find peace in Christ alone. All we have to do is nothing for the Kingdom of Satan to be created. We partner with Satan when we live for self and apart from God. Is the road we are walking on lead us away or toward God? Christ disturbs the way we look at everything in our lives, but by faith He will bring us through and remake us entirely.

The Christian Life

The proof of the Christian life is in the fruit, not in what we are like we originally come. A person must come in repentance and faith. When one comes to God they are giving up their former ways. One must leave behind their former ways and put them to death. The Gibeonites represent the majority of people before they come to Christ. When we come to Christ God makes us new. We become a new creation. The Christian life is purged and made new by faith. Gibeonites are those who humble themselves and put faith in God because they acknowledge there is none greater than Him. Israel represents those who have already entered into a Covenant with God through faith. There must be a sacrifice, there must be atonement, and there must be faith in Christ. The Canaanites are the depraved. They are consumed with carnal desires and passions that must be destroyed. We must put the will of God first and by grace all these Canaanite attributes must be put to death. We must persevere by faith for this to take place. Gibeonites were different from the Canaanites. They were afraid of God and they saw something in Israel they wanted. The Gibeonites came in the wrong way, but why they came was not wrong. They were a type of new believers who come to God. They wanted to appear to be something they were not. God answers every penitent individual by making them His servants. When we are faithful with a little He will give us more. We must be renewed in the Spirit of our minds to be transformed from being who we are when we come to God to those He wills to transform us into. Are we faithfully serving and ministering to God? God desires to make all of us His children, even if we start as Gibeonites.

The Baptism and the Cup

Jesus and His disciples are on their final journey to Jerusalem. Christ is on His way to die and the disciples walk behind Him, amazed and afraid. Jesus takes His disciples to the side and for the third time predicts His coming death. The first time He had done this Peter had rebuked Him. This is because Peter was unwilling to take up his own cross and follow after Christ. The second time Christ had predicted His death the disciples did not understand but were too afraid to ask Him about it. The disciples were unwilling to reveal their ignorance and humbly ask Him what He meant. The disciples were in many ways showing their immaturity, but yet at the same time they were arguing among themselves about who among them was the greatest. James and John ask Jesus to grant them that they may sit on His right hand and on His left hand. Yet the whole time they were unwilling to enter themselves! They wanted Christ to go through His baptism of suffering and they wanted only the benefits of it. They wanted to sit in His glory. Jesus responds by asking them if they were willing to drink the cup He was already drinking or be baptized in the baptism He was already being baptized in. Christ was drinking the cup and baptized with this baptism from the manger to the cross! All Christians must drink of the cup and be baptized in this baptism individually! All must individually enter in! All Christians must deny themselves take up their cross daily, and follow Christ! All Christians must be baptized into His death! All Christians must be baptized in the Holy Spirit and fire! But each must enter in individually. Not at some obscure, future, time, but now! And God has prepared a cup to drink.

An Open Door

There is a time when the people of God have an open door set before them and they could cross over and enter in. God sets an open door before every generation. This open door is the finished work of Calvary. We can no longer draw back! We must press on and possess the land! God has opened the door to maturity, strength, and faith. Now is the time to enter in by faith! The way has been opened; the Accuser of the Brethren has been cast down. Do you want to be made well? God had brought the people of Israel to the entrance of the Promised Land for a second time. The first time they refused to enter so they were brought through years of refinement, trial, and purification in the wilderness. God has purified them of their former lack of faith. God reminds them at the border of the Promised Land of all that He had done. But it comes down to a trial of the will. Are they willing to enter in? We must remember what God has done and enter in by faith! We must be free of our self-sufficient attitude! We must live by faith and completely depend upon the Lord! To live by faith is to acknowledge that God is our only provision. We must come to Him in weakness and humility! The land that the Lord has promised is a land of provision of all things they need. They will lack nothing. But even in this there is a danger and a warning. Be sure to bless the Lord and do not forget. Remember what the Lord has done and do not forget His works. God is working in us through what we face. Remember the times of refinement, trials, and failings. Do not go back to the former ways! When we set up an altar of consecration we must not forget. Walk by faith in the victory that the Lord has granted.

Fear Not

Joel is most likely the earliest of the Minor Prophets. He prophesied during a plague of locusts. God raised up Joel for a reason, to call the people to repentance. He called upon the people to make a decision. He preached to the people to keep and follow the command to love the Lord. All Christians must be fully resolved to keep God’s commandments. Respond when God speaks! Turn to the Lord with all your heart, humble yourselves and repent for withholding any part of your heart from the Lord. We must be broken and contrite before Him! We must tear the inner man. Rend your hearts and return to the Lord by faith. Beware of having a careless attitude. God is gracious and slow to anger. He relents from doing harm and does not enjoy judgment and destruction. This call comes at a cost. The Church in our time focuses on the outward and ignores the inward. The Church is a reproach as long as it does not take seriously the call of the Lord. The people must show their seriousness and desire for the Lord. When the people turn to the Lord He will respond to them. If God’s people respond, pray, and seek God’s face they will be restored. God heals and mends! Do not become distracted and comfortable or settle for anything less! God calls us to rise up in faith. Trust God for something greater. Perfect love prepares us for judgment and death. Fear not! God has not given us a spirit of fear. We must lay our fears down and turn to God once and for all. Once you were in bondage but now you are free! All the former things will be made new. May we labor to know God living by faith and love! May we know Him and see His work around us. Turn to Him with all your heart.

Sifted As Wheat

Christ’s followers are faced with trials, just as He was. But they continue to live out their faith in God through the trials. The disciples of Jesus are promised entry into the Kingdom of Heaven if they continue in their own trials with Him. Jesus speaks to Peter before His arrest, trial, and crucifixion and assures him in the midst of the terrible trial that was at hand. Jesus tells Peter that he will be sifted as wheat in the trial ahead. As Satan had asked God to try Job he is also going to try the disciples. Judas had already been tempted and the Devil had won him. But God alone sets the boundaries and sets a limit to the extent of the sifting that takes place in the life of a believer. Jesus prays for Peter that his faith would not fail. The sifting of Peter is the same sifting that all Christians go through as an ongoing process until all desires, passions, appetites, and emotions are converted and changed to be like Christ. The souls of mankind are influenced by the natural, satanically, and spiritually as they go through this sifting process. Peter and Judas were sifted as wheat. Peter continued to persevere by faith in Christ, but Judas decided to return his own way and betray the Lord completely. The results for Judas were very different than the results of Peter. Peter repented and sought the Lord for forgiveness, Judas never asked the Lord for forgiveness. When disciples are sifted as wheat it is not their end. Christ came to baptize believers with the Holy Spirit and clean out the threshing floor. But Christians are not simply refined by the passing of years, but by walking in obedience to the Lord.

The Chastening of the Lord

This is a prayer to the LORD by the prophet Jeremiah as he reflects upon the destruction of Jerusalem and the burning of the Temple. His reflection leads him to humble himself under the mighty hand of God. There is no better place to be during a time of trial or affliction than to be humbled before the LORD under His mighty hand looking to see what He wills to show and teach through the situation. Jeremiah makes it very clear that it is the rod of the wrath of God that has brought the people of Judah to this place. It has all taken place in response to sin and rebellion of the people. The entire calamity caused their hope and their strength to perish. It is from this place of humility and lack of strength and hope that Jeremiah finds hope. Jeremiah sees that all of this has come about not for their destruction but for their salvation! God is merciful and compassionate! God has an end and a purpose for the entire situation! The end intended by the LORD is the salvation of the people. This leads Jeremiah to wait on the LORD, seek Him, and look to Him as his portion! God chastises those He loves for the sake of their refinement and their sanctification. During times of chastisement we must submit to God by faith. God’s chastisement produces righteousness, holiness, and eternal life. We must submit, surrender, and consecrate ourselves to His ends and His purposes! He is worthy of our trust because He is perfectly just! He will never act contrary to His attributes! And God is Holy Love! God is the Potter and we are the clay. He will mar us in His hands and make us into the image of His son. Let us not resist His work but consecrate and surrender entirely to His work.

Weight of Glory

The treasure that Paul writes about here is the Gospel of Jesus Christ. The life changing power of the Gospel is the only hope for any person and the only hope for this fallen world! The treasure of the Gospel is placed in earthen vessels to prove and illustrate that the power is of God and not of the vessel. The treasure is placed in vessels that are insufficient, but God makes them sufficient by His power. This is to show that the excellence of the power is of God and not of us. The weaker the vessel the more of an opportunity God is given to show forth His power. That is why Paul boasts in his infirmities and weaknesses. These earthen vessels are hard pressed, perplexed, persecuted, and struck down! But by the power of God are kept from being crushed, in despair, forsaken, and destroyed! God allows His earthen vessels to go through this so the work of refinement and sanctification may be done in their lives. The Christian is also always dying through repentance and always delivered to death for Jesus sake through consecration. It is through repentance and consecration that the work of sanctification takes place in the life of the Christian. This is how one receives life. This is how they become like Christ and become like Him in the resurrection. The only way one can persevere in these things is through faith. The ultimate purpose is for others and for the glory of God. We must not lose heart. If one loses faith they will focus only on the outward man that is perishing and will lose sight of the inward man that is being renewed day by day. By faith we see that our affliction is light and for a moment compared to the exceeding and eternal weight of glory!

Filled With the Holy Spirit

There are two categories of people described in the Bible. Those who obey the word of their Lord and live in victory as a result and those who do not obey the Lord but instead resist the truth. Those who resist the truth are like Jannes and Jambres. They are evil people who resist God and the servants of God. They have corrupt minds and resist the teaching of God. These are full of false thoughts that keep them separated from God. For a Christian to remain undefiled in his way they must delight in the law of the Lord and meditate upon it both day and night. They must remain undefiled in their ways and walk in the law of the Lord. They also must not do any iniquity. The heart of every believer is a throne where God alone sits and reigns. This is the treasure of inner knowledge of the glory of God that comes to one when God is rightly seated upon the throne of their heart. The amount of power each believer receives is based on the amount they treasure God’s Word. God alone must be seated upon the throne of the heart! Everything that exalts itself against Christ must be cast down! Because in Christ is hidden all the treasures of wisdom and knowledge! Christians must confess Jesus Christ as Lord. This is the way to discern between the spirit of truth and the spirit of error. Beware of demonic influence and false doctrines. Christians must have their minds filled with God’s Word and they must be filled with the Spirit of God. Because He that is in you is greater than he that is in the world! We must make a choice that He is greater! Whatever is born of God overcomes the world! Do you have the victory today?

The message of Christ is still misunderstood by those who claim to be Christians everywhere. The joy of a disciple is not based on circumstances but on likeness to Christ. As a woman is in labor pains before the death of a child so is the disciple who is having Christ birthed in them. This produces holiness and likeness to Christ. Those who go on by faith through sanctification have a similar “near death” experience. Each believer is brought to sanctification and fullness of joy by continuing on in faith in God. In order for a Christian to experience this they must adapt to God’s standard, consecrate themselves to His sovereignty, and remain completely His. The standard of God is to be like Christ. We must be doers of the Word. God will render to each one according to his deeds. Jesus always did what the Father commanded Him. Christ is our teacher and we should do what He says. As a Christian God is the head of my house, Christ is my Lord and Master, I do not listen to the advice of the world, and I live by faith. I press on and Christ will not let go of me. I forget what is behind and reach toward what is ahead. I press on and reach forward. We need a change of mind so we do these things. We must walk in a place of thoughtless dependence upon His sovereignty. We must cleanse our minds of doubt. The Lord goes with us and He enables us. Do not let any thought distract you from the sovereignty of God! We must obey God’s Word in every aspect of our lives. The fruits of the Spirit are signs of regeneration. May Christ reign upon our hearts! We must first see Him on the cross and then allow Him to reign upon our hearts in order for His image to be formed in us.

Steadfast and Immovable

John is encouraging believers to become established in the truth. Because of what Christ has done we have been offered the way of salvation, sanctification, and hope in the cross. This is all based on faith. All assurance is based on faith in what Christ has done! We must lay hold by faith onto what Christ has done. Many antichrists have come. The Church has lost its vision and reality of the heart. Society is unstable but we must be stable in Christ by faith. We must be consistent, strong, and stable. God is calling us to maturity and perfection! We must have faith in confidence in the cross of Christ. True security only comes to those who decide to give themselves entirely to Christ. God has granted to us in Christ to know Him fully. This is the way to peace with God. The Holy Spirit will guide us into all truth, but will we follow? Rest in the simplicity that is found in Christ! Do not entertain thoughts that will lead you away from the truth. Do not look for a quick and easy way. The cross alone is the way to our salivation. We must persevere in the truth we have received. The failure of the Church has been not to obey what has been given them to obey. This is how heresies are born. We must give ourselves to truth and doctrine. Do not look for new or exciting things. Christ must be everything. Allow nothing to come along that will dislodge the truths found in Christ. Continue in what you know to be true. Abide in Him that we may have confidence at His coming. Let us purify ourselves as He is pure and be holy as He is holy. Let His work be the foundation of our life in the cross. Let us have confidence that this work He has begun He will complete.

Total depravity describes how we are corrupted entirely since the fall. There is nothing in mankind that has not been impacted by sin. Our minds are darkened and our will enslaved to a debased mind. We are outside the reach of salvation without grace. Only grace can enable us to respond to God. If a person does not respond positively to the grace of God they remain in disobedience. God does not receive this one because they are focused on what they desire. They heard the gospel and saw God work but they refused the gospel and remained in depravity. If one refuses to repent their sin remains and so does the burden. Only Christ offers pardon, rest, and peace. He offers forgiveness and assurance! He enables us to rise above weakness and He takes away the veil. Jesus offers us rest and peace. He offers security, confidence, and relief. He relieves all of our burdens and fills us with joy! Only Christ can give us rest for our souls. Nothing in this world can completely satisfy us in this life. Jesus says for us to come to Him. We can only come to Him through faith. Faith is the only condition. One can come to Christ just as they are. Faith is all one needs to enter the rest of Christ. Whoever desires can partake of justification, deliverance from sin, victory in trials, and sanctification! This rest is not given to the wise and prudent, it is not granted to those who trust in self. Those who are willing to respond will receive rest. The only one we could trust in trial is Christ. Let us rely on Him and be subject to Him. We must approach Him as meek and humble. We must live in faith, humility, obedience, and total dependence upon Him.

Let all believers go on by faith and confidence in God. By faith all can enter into the completed work of Christ and may live by faith. Rejoice in the abundance of grace and hope! See beyond to what God can do as He moves all things according to His will. May we see with optimism and see the remnant that God is going to raise up. As one asks according to His will they will receive. We must embrace the truth by faith, faith that continues to believe, and faith that is current. May we see that there is something ahead! Prepare to receive the promised blessing, be ready for the blessing of God! May we not be bound by what we see! Do not limit God! God is greater and nothing restricts Him. Fear and shame will not be our inheritance. God will do something more in our midst. Come to God to be satisfied and restored. Do not refuse Him any longer. God chastises with a purpose. After judgment is revival and His wrath is only for a moment. The Scriptures speak of a greater and enduring work! Do not be afraid! He has come to heal us and to establish us! Enter into His blessings! God speaks of establishing and reviving His work. He will raise us up and restore us! No longer will we be forsaken and our righteousness will go forth as brightness. Our confidence must rest in God as our hope. He will do the work! He will lay the foundations! Our work and labor are not in vain. God is establishing a work in our lives and through us. No more fear because perfect love casts out fear! Cast down your fear! Rest your life in the confidence in God who establishes our salvation! Thanks be to God who gives us victory in Christ! Nothing holds us back but ourselves.

No Excuse

This story is about those who are unwillingly ignorant of God’s truths and those who are willingly ignorant of God’s truths although they claim to see. The Pharisee claims to hear and understand God’s message, but they live on their own terms. They are not truly converted. They pretend through self-righteous works but do not have the Kingdom of God within them. The Pharisees refused to admit their need and had no excuse after being spoken to. One could either believe in truth or in lies. If a person is truly ignorant this individual is not guilty of sin. God is just and will never bring judgment upon those who have not had an opportunity. People are not condemned for what they cannot do, but only for what they can do. Many pretend to agree with the Bible but do not live and obey the Bible. The sins of people will not be pardoned when they are proud and self-confident. Walking in faith, prayer, and humility is the path of the Christian. Pride must not be tolerated! No matter how sanctified or mature we are we must see that Christ has accomplished the entirely of the work in us. We will never reach a state where we have arrived, or a place where we can begin to trust in self. We must have the attitude of the tax collector, not the Pharisee. Everyone who professes Christ, as Lord must walk in the resurrected life, now! There is no time not to walk in the resurrected life! No longer shame or fear! No excuse after being spoken to! Awake from sleep and arise from the dead! God has a new covenant for all who enter through faith. It is not an outward agreement, but an agreement from the heart based on love for God and a willingness to walk in His steps.

The only way to salvation is through repentance. There is no purity while one is living in sin. But through repentance, faith, regeneration, and justification one can be reconciled to God. Every person has a choice of where they will spend eternity. God calls us to obey the Word of the Lord. The way of life is to obey the Word of God; the way of death is to turn away from His Word. It is the narrow and difficult way that leads to life. This way will result in persecution and will be a cause of great trouble. There are few who find it! God calls Christians to strive to enter! There is nothing about the Christian journey that will be pleasing to the flesh. The broad way offers what the carnal mind desires, but it is the way of death. To hear the words of God is not enough they must be obeyed. To walk in the light is to conduct life in the way of truth, knowledge of God, and holiness. Will you enter into life?

Why did Jesus Christ come? Many do not know and many have false opinions about why. John tells clearly why He came and what His purpose was. He came with the purpose of redemption, to restore Adam’s fallen race. Jesus is the model of those full of the Spirit and born again, the blood of Christ has the power to overcome the guilt and power of sin! A true Christian was held as a prisoner of sin but is no longer. Jesus came to destroy the works of the Devil, those who are born again overcome the world, and the Holy Spirit enters a person they take on the love of Christ and love the world less. There are many in the Church today who love the world and are not born of God. Many profess to be Christians and do not keep the commands of Christ, they have the spirit of Antichrist and are antinomians! These are of the religion of Cain. They refuse to humble themselves and murder the prophets instead of obeying their message. The true test of who is a Christian or not is judged based upon if they live in obedience to God’s Word. The Word of God must be absolute Truth in the life of one who calls themself a Christian. Those who are full of the world are full of Antichrist and believe in doctrines full of hyper-grace. Jesus came to deliver us from this present age! The consequences of sin is death and only through Christ can we be delivered from sin. Christ came to redeem mankind from sin so they may live out the Law of Christ. But some pervert the Gospel by twisting and distorting it. The true Gospel begins with repentance. Sin cannot be favored, it must be removed! To be in grace we must be dead toward sin and alive in God. The Gospel calls us to repent and continue to repent.

David was called a man after God’s own heart because he sought to know God. He allowed nothing to completely sever him from God. David’s heart was after God’s heart, his desire was for God and he did not turn away to idols or to self. Beware of the cares and pleasures of life! Our hearts must be set to know and love God in all things. Even when we fall we must repent in order to be restored. David sinned and made mistakes but he repented and went on in his pursuit of God. Forgiveness of sin begins by acknowledging sin. God will hear the cry of the truly penitent. God is willing to forgive and transform anyone who comes to Him by grace. David cries out for purity and holiness. David knows that only God can do this work in him! David experienced a complete repentance of heart. He did not value himself or his reputation. He was broken only because his fellowship with God was broken. David lays waste to any self-righteous claims. The Church must be honest and deal with sin! Sin must be spoken against and people must be honest with themselves. The heart must be open and exposed to God. We must be honest with who we are and in our struggles. God can overcome these things in us. The reality of failure must drive us to the cross. We must not hide like Adam did. We must come to God in honesty and truth. If you want to be clean come to Christ and be made clean. God makes clean and restores. He does not delight in the loss of anyone. The greatest treasure is to know God. Do not allow your joy to be cluttered and choked. Let God alone be our end and our pearl of great price. We must realize we are nothing without Him. May we walk all of our days seeking to grow in love for God.

Most people today are not interested in the Gospel. People don’t think they have any needs. We are living in a day of delusion. People turn to the world to fulfill all their needs and desires. But physical death is coming! For those who ignore the cross and remain in their sin they are just going around on a track. Adam and Eve lost the image of God and they became conscious of their great need. They were separated from the Lord and hid themselves form Him. Most of mankind thinks they’re all set but they are dying! They do not have the fullness of God and have sought temporary satisfaction in the world. A person must be poor in spirit. You cannot give someone something they do not want to receive. Those who mourn over their sins will receive forgiveness! The battle of the Christian is to resist the Devil and wrestle against wickedness. In order to do this one must live in the world but not become like the world. We are to conquer not be conquered! In order to overcome one must find their strength in Christ. In our Savior we find peace, comfort, and victory! Knowing Christ is true satisfaction! We cannot make ourselves right through religion. Christianity is what Christ does within, recreating us. We must not exchange the Truth of God for a lie and put ourselves above God. We must die to self and leave behind the world. Will you wear the perishable crown of the world or will you receive the Gospel? The crown of Christ does not perish! Do not put the world before Christ! Do not put yourself before God! Beware of selling your soul to gain the possessions of the world. Christ is greater, may we not be overcome but be overcomers!

Life In the Spirit

Paul exhorts all Christians to walk in the Spirit and to not fulfill the lusts of the flesh. How can a Christian walk to become so filled with God’s Holy Spirit that they are no longer governed by the prevailing ungodly culture that tries to dictate to their minds and actions? To answer this question one must look at the difference between the Soul and the Spirit. The Soul includes the seat of the senses, desires, affections, appetites, which humans all have in common with animals. The Spirit is the part of the soul that directly relates mankind to God. God breathed into mankind His breath. The Spirit is the center of self-consciousness, emotions, and will. God and humans are spiritual beings and this allows them to have a personal relationship. Paul describes in Romans 7 the battle in the mind between walking in the Spirit and walking in the Soul. The answer to this dilemma is to be born again, born from above. Not until one is born again can one truly see. When a person comes into personal contact with the sinless Savior of the world and repents of their sin and makes a decision to follow after Christ God places His Spirit in them. This is regeneration. From there the Christian must put to death the old man and live life in the newness of the Spirit. The Christian is to be filled with the Holy Spirit. This is how God prepares one for Heaven. The Soul must stay at rest in order for God to give the individual life. It cannot dominate the Christian again! The Christian must be renewed in their knowledge of God the Creator. This is true Sanctification. The Christian is walk in a way that is spiritually minded. Not carnally minded. Do you want to enjoy life in the Spirit?

The Great Conflict

Jesus made it clear that Satan had nothing in Him. Nothing Satan offered attracted Him or ruled over Him, even for a moment. Jesus stayed out of the great conflict because His love for God prevailed over all other loves that tried to compete with His devotion. Jesus remained obedient to His Father out of pure love. Anyone can avoid the great conflict by receiving God’s Word and being doers of the Word. The great conflict is whether one is willing to trust and obey God or if they will continue thinking that they are the greatest authority in their life. There must not be a lack of faith, nor an idolatrous heart! Elijah asks the people of Israel how long they will falter between two opinions before they make a decision. Where do you stand amongst the great conflict? Jesus commands His disciples to abide in His love. To do this one must continue walking by faith even in the midst of trials. One who puts faith in Christ but no longer trusts Him fully will become dried up and wither. If one does abide in Christ by faith they will bear fruit and do what Jesus commands. This will all result in true love. It is a love for God that results in a love for one another. Christians are commanded to be rich in good works, faithful, and successful in spreading the Gospel. Christians are not to be idle and consumed with the things of this world, but instead are called to do good and spread the rich spiritual blessings of the Gospel. All of this will result in persecutions. The world does not love Christ or Christians. All Christians who live for Christ will suffer persecution. There is no excuse for sin or disobedience to His commands. Where do you stand amongst the great conflict?

The light of Jesus Christ has come into the world! The greatest hindrance facing humanity is a lack of faith. Personal darkness results from harboring secret sin. Men love darkness more than light and it closes mankind off from god. God desires to reveal everything to us by light. One who does the truth comes to the light and they arrive at the conclusion that Jesus is the truth. Those with little or no faith are constantly afraid. Each believer must obey and press forward by faith. Conformity, compliance, and consistency are the keys to spiritual growth. One must love and obey God, running the race set before them! One must love Christ more than everything else, consecrating all to God. This is the only way to positive progress in sanctification. Christ came to save, not to destroy! Never move away from the voice of the Lord. Never become self-centered in your obedience and worship. We cannot go on with God if we sin during every trial, and faithlessness is sin. Mary Magdalene was weeping at the tomb of Christ when she found out it was empty. But she had to look away from herself and see the resurrected Christ! If we are focused on ourselves we will not see Christ. We must trust in Christ. If we become self-centered our progress in sanctification will stop. If we sit around and weep in self-sympathy we will miss Christ. We must go through trials by faith. Never put yourself before God! Every time we face a test or a trial we are to overcome by faith. All disbelief and lack of faith is sin. Why are you weeping? Arise in faith!

Self is the attitude or character of a person that controls them. In this parable both the Pharisee and the Tax Collector show a lot about the human condition. Self is a person’s conscious personality. Both of these men know who they are. The Pharisee sees himself as “set apart.” They were strict, wealthy, self-righteous and conservative. They sought fame and recognition. Personal consciousness meant everything to them. They believed in what the Bible said only so far as they agreed with it. They did not allow the Law of God to override their own disposition. What they needed was total heart transformation, but they put self above God. The Tax Collector was hated by the Jews. He was a Jew himself hired by the Romans to collect taxes. He was willing to do his job no matter what people thought of him. There is a big difference between these two men. The Pharisee was proud and stood by himself. He was afraid his faith would be tested. He wanted to appear outwardly righteous. It was all about self as the ruler of their heart. In the life of a born again Christian Christ is the center, not self. The Tax Collector was humble and convicted of his sin, but conviction must lead to repentance. He must surrender his life to Christ. If he continued in the condition of willful sin he would stay away from God. In order to be free from sin a person must both repent and surrender their life to Christ. The Tax Collector needed to change. A person must be willing to come to the light, put off the old nature, and become like Christ. In contrast everything Jesus did was not about self but for the glory of the Father. The life of a true Christian honors God.

John is asked to measure the Temple of God. The Temple is divided into two parts: the Temple and the Outer Court. The Temple is a type of the true Church of Jesus Christ in the last days. The remnant of God! They have come to the cross and worship in the Temple. Those in the Outer Court are a type of the false Church, they seem to be a part of the Temple but they are not. They are cast out. They have willfully refused the truth of God’s Word. They trample the Gospel of Jesus Christ underfoot. But this will only go on for a limited time. The witnesses are God’s remnant in the last days. There are few of them and they prophesy. They are true prophets, they are not those who practice divination like is so prevalent in the professing Church today. They receive power from God. They witness for Jesus Christ with the Power of the Holy Spirit, the power of the Word of God, and the power of prayer and faith! But the beast makes war upon them, overcomes them, and kills them. This is the climax of the growing antagonism and hatred of Christianity. The beast ascends and eventually overcomes them in the city of apostasy. The city of apostasy is described as Sodom, Egypt, and Jerusalem. Sodom is a type of religion that embraces and endorses sin. Egypt is a type of religion that refuses the Gospel of freedom from slavery. And Jerusalem is the city of hypocrisy that is willing to kill the prophets and witnesses of Jesus Christ. Although the witnesses are killed by the beast this is a false victory! Because the gates of Hell shall not prevail against the Church! All things are in subjection to Christ! And in these last days we must see Jesus!

Do You Love Me More Than These?

All Christians can learn a lot from the Apostle Peter. Peter had many faults and shortcomings. But all of Peter’s faults were in his head and not in his heart. Peter learned from his mistakes and experiences and this is what made him the right person to lead the early Church. Like when he left the boat to walk to Christ upon the water. He learned that he must always keep his eyes on Christ and never upon his own abilities. He learned that he must always walk by faith even in the midst of overwhelming circumstances. When Peter went up to the Mount of Transfiguration he had to learn that to follow Christ was not only going to be blessing. Following Christ was going to lead him to the Garden and the Cross. Peter learned that he had to be transfigured and changed so he could help others down in the valley below and not just desire to remain on the mountaintops of spiritual experiences. Before Peter followed Christ he was a successful and hardworking businessman. He left all to follow Christ. At the time of the events of John 21 Peter was discouraged, beat up, and worn out. He didn’t even notice Christ on the shore. He was considering turning away from Christ to go back to fishing again. In the same way our dreams and imaginations may never work out. But when things are not going the way you desire them to go will you turn away from Christ to the world? Will you turn back to what is familiar? Let the people of the world waste their lives, we must remain true to our confession! “Do you love Christ more than these?” Is Christ your greatest treasure?

Where Is Your Fruit?

One sin that impacts all of mankind is the sin of religion. John the Baptist uses “brood of vipers” to describe those who are driven by religious zeal. The world today still suffers from hypocritical religion. There are those who boast in Orthodoxy, like the Pharisees, and those who boast in higher criticism, like the Sadducees. All of them make an outward show of religion but do not repent. All must repent! God is no respecter of persons; one must bear fruits worthy of repentance! Repentance is the first condition in order to be prepared for Heaven. There must be a change. Un-repented sin will lead people to hell. Fruitfulness and faithfulness are the only true signs of change. The religious person who claims to listen to a religion that goes against God is mistaken and bound for hell. You cannot follow a religion of your own designing! This is lawlessness! Christ did not come to destroy the law, but to fulfill the law. Sometimes religious people listen to demonic spirits that even drive the to kill others in the name of their religion. Religion often produces pride, which leads one to look down upon others. Each born again Christian has received the Pearl of Great Price. How precious is that Pearl to you? What fruit are you bringing forward? Who have you led to Christ? Do you show the love of Christ? Do you bear fruit? Or have you grown unfruitful? We have no business in the garden unless we bear fruit. There is a point when the day of grace will end. Religious people are completely focused on self and not on others. Repentance is moving beyond conviction; it leads one to action and change. Have you truly repented? Or are you merely religious?

No Turning Back

Jesus Christ never lost sight of the final goal in His mind. He was steadfast and determined, He chose to continue doing what God had commanded Him to do. He did not let any things of this world come before His Father. Christians must practice faithful obedience and walk every moment conscious of God. Christians are to possess their souls by overcoming thoughts, moods, and feelings that will lead them away from God. Christians are to die to the sin of possessiveness. Jesus used a child to show one who is humble, teachable, and without personal ambition. Christ taught that we are to be converted through repentance and bring ourselves to the lowest place. This begins when one is born again and continues throughout life. Our goals and ideas are to become worthless compared to God. Those who have the Holy Spirit love God more than all other things. The believer must continually surrender over their right to self and become like Christ in His character. So many live their lives going after possessions and miss going to Heaven. The Christian must live in obedience to God, commit everything to Him and keep Him first. They set their face to do God’s will, even if others did not go with Him or even if the whole world is opposed to them. We must not postpone our call to follow Christ. Jesus lived like a homeless pilgrim, He consecrated Himself to God entirely. Attachments and possession keep people from following after Christ. We must count the cost! We must not look at the praises of men as more important, nor our home responsibilities. We must not be inconsistent, never look with regret on following after Christ. Do not look back, we must be obedient to the call of the Gospel.

The Resurrected Life

The resurrected life means newness of life, living for God, and being a slave to God. The resurrected life is a life lived in obedience to God. The first condition of the resurrected life is to walk in newness of life. This begins when one believes in Jesus Christ and they are forgiven through faith. All truly regenerated Christians are raised with Christ to a new life. The newness of life means to walk with conviction, confidence, and assurance because the old life is dead and buried with Christ. All that God’s Word calls sinful is dead and the believer is united with Christ. In order to be united with Christ one must be separated from sin. The change is so complete that in Christ all the old things have passed away. The person who has received Christ by faith has become a partaker of the Holy Spirit and the old man has been put to death. God allows mankind to live independent from Him if they choose, but this independence separates one from God. A person who chooses to ignore the Word of Life while they are living will suffer the punishment of dying spiritually for all of eternity. In order to be made alive from the dead a person must walk in the way of the Lord, not their own way. This way of the Lord begins with saving grace but continues on in sanctifying grace. The Christian must endure until the end and lay aside all sin! A person can either obey sin leading to death, or they can obey God which leads to righteousness. A person who has been made alive by the grace of God cultivates the fruits of holiness in their lives. They are no longer ashamed because they are no longer evil, faithless, and rebellious. They are living the resurrected life.

Imitators of God

Paul encourages the Church to be imitators of God. The Church cannot let the standards of the world pull a veil over their eyes. Sin lies all around, the Church must turn away from it. Enthusiasm for created things cannot replace love for God. Awake! No longer live in ignorance! Do not covet the things that will perish. The sanctified life is not bland, when one lives for the glory of God with enthusiasm they will be blessed. Christians must walk in the light, not darkness. The Christian can either become an imitator of God or they will long after the world and Egypt. If one tries to live between the two with half-hearted ways they will fall into pessimism and laziness. Christ was enthusiastic to live out the will of God. There is nothing wrong with being passionate and having emotions, but one must not be entangled with the sinful things of the world. Bring every thought into obedience to Christ! Emotion is not evil. The Holy Spirit energizes emotions for God. The Christian must have emotion about the things of God. If not one will be only focused on learning and intellect. They will hear God’s Word read and preached but will do nothing about it unless their emotions are engaged. But all must be aware of hyper-emotionalism as well. We cannot desire attention to be drawn to us. The emotional life must be kept in check. Christ never put Himself first. He submitted to God and served others. Christians are free to be the Lord’s slaves. We are to use freedom to be slaves of God. One who has mature Christian faith will be given energy, brilliance, and creativity. The Holy Sprit reveals our nature so we can become imitators of God and surrender to His work in our lives.

In order to be free from sin a person must both repent and surrender their life to Christ. The Tax Collector needed to change. A person must be willing to come to the light, put off the old nature, and become like Christ. In contrast everything Jesus did was not about self but for the glory of the Father. The life of a true Christian honors God.

Joshua went out and lived according to God’s promises, trusting in God no matter what he faced. He had to learn to totally rely on the Lord and His grace in order to fulfill his calling. He needed to receive and apply God’s grace personally or he would face situations alone and fail to lead the people into the Promised Land. God came alongside of Joshua and never left him nor forsook him. All must first face the enemies in their minds before they can face the enemies that are on the outside. Our main enemies cannot be seen, they fight against us surrendering to God entirely. Evil is always attempting to defeat us, Joshua would be no match unless he believed God was true and took up the whole armor of God. We must get rid of all traces of unbelief and rebellion. No created thing can separate us from the love of Christ and we are given victory over the world through Christ. We are able to enter into the victory of Christ through death, His resurrection promise is given to all those who enter into His death. But the old man must be crucified in us. When we put faith in Christ He gives us the strength to overcome our enemies and temptations. A person must continually battle to maintain good thinking. In order for the doctrines of Jesus to benefit a person they must be used and applied. Good morality leads to godliness. Riches are things that we think that we can’t live without or things we become possessive over. We must learn to discipline our mind to develop good morality. Does your behavior show that you love God more than anything else? When the Lord filled every part in Joshua’s heart he did what the Lord commanded and he was not afraid, dismayed, or discouraged.

Christ never claimed that living for Him was going to be easy. His followers will be rejected; the world does not desire purity or godliness. A godly life will convict them and many will be determined to ignore God’s Word. Those who have been forgiven love God, and love is shown in obedience. Anyone who will be used by God will face persecution and trials. The path to Heaven is full of temptations that will always attack in the areas we have a liking or desire. When Satan tempts Jesus he does this and tries to make Christ distrust God’s provision and care only for Himself. When we face temptations we must walk by faith. Jesus commands us to pray that we may not enter into temptation. We will go astray and fall when trials come if we do not look to God alone. Human nature is weak, but God is able to supply our every need. When Christians face trials they are refined. Christ trusted in His Father, He lived a humble life and did not fall during the trials. Beware of any attitude of wanting to satisfy yourself whenever you want. Personal, fleshly ambitions are the cause of temptations. Sin is not an option! Personal ambition will only be overcome by those who are willing to suffer with Christ. Do not tempt God by looking for a shortcut or a way to compromise. Christ had to work through every test and temptation. We must get up and fight and be obedient through temptations and trials. Even your family can get in the way of you having the mind of Christ. God knows how to deliver the godly out of temptation. It is painful when family and friends do not accept Christ, but we must remain focused on Christ.

If there was ever a time for the Church to do this it is now. To continue to persevere in spite of suffering, some will not persevere and be lost. Christians must go on to maturity and sanctification! The road is long and it takes time. All need to go on with endurance until the race is completed. Revelation and vision are important to complete the journey. Even the strongest Christians can become discouraged at times, but we must not become anxious or bitter when things do not change right away. Sometimes we think God has forgotten about us, but wait in expectant faith. Wait on His help and trust in Him. We must turn to the Lord first when we need help and we must hold on to the vision that God has given us. God gives us all we need to endure! We must take God’s way; Christ did this and was made perfect through sufferings. We are saved by grace, but we must endure suffering, we cannot take a shortcut, we must learn obedience through perseverance. When one trusts in Christ by faith they receive the Holy Spirit and each one who perseveres will receive the Crown of Life. This takes patience, which is produced through faith. Those who overcome are those who wait faithfully and patiently upon God, receive the nature of Christ, and keep His commands. The Holy Spirit confirms the truth within. We must bow and stay bowed before God. A person must be born again before they see the Spirit of God in them and before they see the Kingdom of God. Jesus is the only way; we must obey Him and keep His Word. The Holy Spirit only enters by faith. Are you keeping Christ’s command to persevere?

Refuge and strength means complete safety. God is our help when we distress greatly. He is a place of safety to all who trust in Him by faith, a place to take shelter in. The Lord is a refuge to all who fear His name, turn from sin, and make a covenant with Him. God is strength to the defenseless, and He is help in time of trouble. Divine aid prevents fear; confidence in God will give strength. When we are afraid we must put our trust in Him. David was one who did this. He was familiar with God’s Word. David had a testimony and even when he faced the giant Goliath he trusted in the Lord. David saw God and His Word as living and he ran to meet the giant! David could not be shaken because he trusted in the Lord. God’s Kingdom cannot be shaken. Every believer must learn to hear the voice of the Lord. The voice of the Lord is the Word of God. Do not rely on the things of the world. Do not rely on self. We must wholly rely on God’s promises and providence. It is anti-faith when we trust in ourselves and not in God. Mankind is shaken when there is no faith to believe. The believer must have faith to trust God! There is a lot of shaking that is going to come. There are tares amongst the wheat. God will clear out His threshing floor. We are in the final days of grace; God is getting ready to separate the sheep from the goats. Sanctification is a refining process. God is getting us ready for Heaven. Freedom from sin is retained as one walks in the light and faith, trusting in the blood of Christ. The difference between those who enter Heaven and those who do not is if they walk in the light. Is the Lord your refuge and strength? God is only as far as your disbelief.

One of the first signs that a person is truly regenerated is love. Many people have ideas about who God is, but only those who sincerely love God have a true understanding of this. If one abides in Christ they will overcome the wicked one. It is through continual faith in God that enables this, but it all begins with being born again. A person who is born again loves God and will love other believers as well. True believers will love those who are born of God even in spite of differences. One who is born again will also obey the commandments of Christ. Obedience to God proves love for God. God demands the total allegiance of all that we are. The Bible teaches that all bondage of soul, mind, and heart is the result of fear. Those who are enslaved into the service of the world become in bondage to it. But a person who is born of God overcomes the world. The victory that overcomes the world is faith. The person who overcomes the world is the person who believes that Jesus Christ is the Son of God and goes on believing. God gives the believer victory over all the trials and temptations of life! God gives the believer victory over all the forces and difficulties of life! God gives the believer victory over sin! God gives the believer victory over death! God gives the believer victory over judgment! God gives the believer victory over fear and despair and instead fills them with love, joy, and peace. The witness of God is far greater than any witness of man. People lie, God does not lie. What God says is true and therefore everyone should believe the testimony about His Son. In the Christian is the witness that this is true, and the witness is the Holy Spirit.

Jacob did not expect a special manifestation of the Lord in this place. Jacob was at a point in his life when he was not spiritually healthy; he was weak and getting tired of trying to do things his own way. Many times the Christian has a hard time walking by faith, especially if they are used to walking by sight and doing things by their own natural ability and efforts. When life lets us down and we fail at our best attempts we have forgotten that “the Lord is in this place.” Jacob found that his tendencies, inclinations, and predispositions were beginning to slowly change because he was beginning to yield to God’s will. God had been reaching out to Jacob for a long time, but he was never at rest. That was all before God revealed Himself to Jacob and he was found alone with God. Even after one is regenerated it does not remove the leaning towards rest. It takes divine strength in order to continually keep oil in your lamp and stay burning for Jesus. Many times during His earthly ministry the followers of Christ sought out inactivity, ease, and leisure. But this turns spiritual blessing into laziness. If one seeks this out they will lose all hope to build Christ-like character and the work of God will stop. God’s blessings, gifts, and even our sanctification cannot be the final aim and goal of our lives. Our union with God is in us being one with Him in all things. Rest is for physical restoration, but we should never rest from keeping our eyes on Jesus, relying on the Holy Spirit, and walking by faith. When a person learns to trust in God enough to rest from their own works and rest spiritually. But even then we must not stop watching, praying, and believing!

Job was a perfect man. God gave to Job liberally and he gave back to God. His life was complete and he had integrity, but he was overwhelmed with disaster. Job was slammed down into the dirt. But by faith he accepts what has happened, he sees that despair is at the center of every life and realized he must remain rightly related to God by faith alone. Job would soon see that his suffering was creating a greater glory. The flesh is the first area that Satan goes after. Job’s wife was the closest thing to himself and she tells him to curse God and die. Satan will even use our most intimate relationships against us. Job also experienced the loneliness of sorrow. His friends began to wonder if it would happen to them and they decided to criticize his mistakes. Job was left without one true friend and all forsook him as Christ was forsaken. All face the most agonizing trials alone; sometimes we should not speak but rather humble ourselves and pray. The theology of Job’s friends was placed before God’s sovereignty. Job did not understand what was happening to him, but he knew that God was in control. Job knew that God would make all things clear to him. Tragedy creates a great chasm between people and God. It is Christ alone that can reverse the cruse and restore a person’s soul! All must be born again! Job realized he would never rise above his situation if he remained self-centered in the dust. He acknowledged that he needed God. He knew that His Redeemer lives! Faith told him this! The only way out was redemption! Faith in the blood of Christ! Job could not save himself but he did not let his situation separate him from God. He was badly hurt but not destroyed.

Christ came as the perfect example of one walking in the spirit, sanctified, anointed, and possessing power through the Spirit. In order to walk as Christ calls us to walk we must sacrifice the natural for the spiritual. It begins with repentance and finds its ultimate fulfillment in perfect love. The masses of humanity reject God and become allies of the Devil. Few experience what God wills for the Christian to experience, too many people use reason to understand what only faith can understand. This was the problem of the Pharisees. The only way one can understand the things of God is by the Spirit of God and bringing one’s life into subjection to the will of God. Common in the Church today are Pharisees that are not pliable in God’s hands. Religious and carnal people full of false religion with their minds on the things of the world. One must be born again to learn the things of God. There are two ways for people to live. One is in license, and the other is in love. Those who live according to license live without humility, they are full of pride and believe they can judge all things. They exalt the creature above God and look for personal gain. The other is love as seen lived out in the life of Christ. Christ was full of the Holy Spirit. It is not education, knowledge, works, or religion that one needs to know God. One must love God above all things to understand and know God. The Holy Spirit is given to all who ask for it. In order to understand the things of God one must be born again and continually desire to be filled with the Holy Spirit. Do you desire to know the things of God? Are you willing to receive the things of God?

There are so many ways a Christian can find themselves in bonds and become captive to something. There are so many kinds of bondage we can fall into. Like legalism, works, trying to control your future, worrying about the future, or worrying about what other people think of you. We can also put pressure on ourselves to be something we are not. We can judge our walk with God based on how people react to you reaching out to them. We can try to finish in the Spirit what has begun in the flesh. But you can arise and be free from any of these things! You can be redeemed without money! There is no reason for a believer to be in the dust or in bonds. There is no reason for a Christian to be captive! God has put on strength, the power of His arm by the cross of Jesus Christ. He has overcome the enemy! He has made the way and given the strength of the Holy Spirit! He has prepared the garments of holiness and righteousness! He has purchased our peace and parted the Red Sea! Why would we not want to take advantage of these things He has made available to us? It is God’s will for His people to live in victory and freedom that is made available through faith! Do you want to be victorious? Look to Christ by faith! It is all in Him by faith! Our righteousness, sanctification, and redemption! But do you know His name? It is this truth in you and to you? Have you fallen into bondage? Are you lying in the dust? What rules over you? Rise up! Look to our Savior and be free!

Jesus tells His disciples that it is their will that will lead them closer to God or away from God. The will is defined as the part of us that makes decisions. It is how someone consciously decides things. All have the power to make assessments, determinations, and choices. Jesus only sought the will of Him who sent Him so He was in harmony with the will of God. He submitted His will to the Father and sought the glory of His Father alone. There was no possibility of unrighteousness. Those who desire their own pride and power desire their own will and not the will of God. A person will not be given the grace of God to overcome unless we are completely willing to do God’s will. We must be in full agreement with God, if so we can move mountains and nothing is impossible! If anyone wills to do His will he shall know concerning the doctrine. Many people wonder why it is so difficult for them to do what God wills them to do it is because there is unwillingness! A self-centered will fails at discerning God’s will. We must not place our own will before God’s will! If we do we will become nervous, fearful, and fretful. We must be willing to do His will as our will. This is the one who will know His will. Is your will the same as God’s will? Make sure your life is going in the same direction as His life.

Christ is our hope and our Anchor behind the veil. One of the greatest blessings given to a Christian is hope. Before there is hope there must be a restored relationship that begins with repentance and faith. It is only through repentance and faith that a believer is given assurance. Only then can the Christian enter behind the veil through Christ. One must fully trust their life in the hands of Christ, without this there is no hope or faith. One will receive nothing from the Lord unless they trust God fully when they hear the Gospel. How can a Christian have faith? How can a Christian have assurance? By putting faith in Jesus Christ and living out their faith every moment of everyday. Never substitute anything for your relationship with Jesus Christ. There must be full hope, full diligence, and full assurance. When one turns to God the veil is taken away. The song of hope for eternal life must be the loudest sound. This hope we have is an Anchor of the soul.

Mankind will be judged by the condition of our hearts. God is looking for a pure heart, sound mind, and clear conscious. All will give an account of what we have done with the message of redemption. What we were will no longer matter, but what we are that matters most. God will judge us by the image of His Son. How much have I been changed into the image of Jesus Christ? Have I lived according to God’s Word? I am a faithful servant? Am I still in firm possession of the treasure? Do I walk by faith or by sight? God will not allow anyone to be lost unless they deny the Holy Spirit. Sin must be separated from each person after they are born of God. Jesus heals the brokenhearted and sets free the oppressed. He came to deliver broken men and women. We must walk in the light as He is in the light. Christ does not leave anyone in sin; He sets us free from all our enemies that try to oppress us. This He did through the cross! Do you belong to yourself or do you belong to Jesus? We must support no hindrance to the Holy Spirit working in us. God must be formed in us. We must become a Bethlehem to the Son of God.

The most important moment in our lives is when we become aware of the fact that we are deficient. Mankind has the ability to be summoned spiritually. When we are faced with the cross we become defenseless and our sin creates feebleness and weakness. Consciousness of the presence of God is unlike anything else we have every experienced. We are to be willing to eat His flesh and drink His blood. God brings to nothing the things that are. Abram realized God was calling him and he was in awe. It was a personal encounter with God. He realized he was undone as Isaiah was when he experienced the supernatural presence of God. Isaiah was in awe and was brought face to face with his own unworthiness. We must be convinced within ourselves that we have heard the voice of God. Are you hearing from God today? God is speaking, but are you listening? Ask the Lord to open His word to you. Admit your short fallings and ask God to help you. When you hear from Him act and believe! Consecrate all to Him and obey His Word! Are you hearing from God today?

What is Truth? No matter how fascinated someone is with the truth, unless they receive Jesus Christ as the truth they cannot be saved. Jesus Christ is revealed as the truth to those who receive the Gospel and repent of their sin. We must all be rightly related to God by living out His Word. We need personal conviction to be changed. Penitence is true sorrow for sin and it affects our attitude, but it means more than an attitude change. It is a divine work of God’s grace that takes place on the inside of an individual. It must upset our natural dispositions and disturbs our inner peace. He individual must experiences the inner workings of the Holy Spirit. Conviction of sin leads to remorse and this brings about repentance. This must continue all the way until the heart is changed. Penitence is the posture of the Christian. Our strength to stand will only be found in Christ, not outward conformity! We must be persuaded beyond every shadow of a doubt that Jesus Christ is the Way, the Truth, and the Life. Are you convinced that the truth is in Jesus?

Many in the Church lack faith and therefore lack life. Lifelessness in humanity is the result of one not being reunited with God through faith in Christ. Lifelessness comes from unbelief. Only if one believes in Christ can they receive life. No person by himself or herself has the power of eternal life living within them. One must act upon what Christ teaches us, these are those who have the work of Jesus Christ being done within them. If not one will fall into religious habit. No one has the life of God until they are born again from above. Unless the nature of Christ is birthed within a person they cannot live according to the life of Christ. Nicodemus could not bring himself to understand what Jesus was teaching. There are many in the Christian Church that have not entered into the life of Christ through faith and therefore they are living a law. But if one is born from above they have Christ living in them. Jesus always rebuked those who lived with a false religious profession. If someone wants the life of God they must come to Him on His terms. Have you made Jesus Christ lord over every part of your life? Redemption is only found through faith in the blood of Christ.

This sermon jam focuses on the story of Moses being called by God at the burning bush. Moses was seeking after God and responded by faith. He allowed God to change him. The burning bush is a symbol of a deeper work of grace in the life of the Christian. There comes a time that a deeper work must take place in the life of the Christian. The Christian must allow God to change them from within! God asked Moses to leave behind the things he was familiar with. Things from the past had to go! God was leading Moses into something completely different. We must stop doing things that occupy our time and focus on God. We must spend time with God! God speaks to us when we spend time with Him. Where do you stand today? Are you standing on holy ground? What is your answer to God in the burning bush? Will it be “here I am?”

Most people go about their life and don’t ask where we are heading and why we are here. What is the inner core of our lives? What is the real purpose? We need the light of the revelation of God. Every person who does not know God is alone. Without God there is no light, only darkness. Sin is the cause of darkness and humanity is wrapped up in darkness. Before being born again one is darkness. Every time one refuses to obey the truth and submit to Christ we are walking in darkness. Jesus is the Light the world! We must not walk in darkness. Unbelief is darkness faith is light. Jesus shows us truth in all things! Christ shows us the purpose, meaning, and significance of all things. Christ now only shows us light but also makes us light. His Spirit lives in us and through the Spirit we become light. This is the light of Christ that is in us as long as we continue to walk by faith. Christians are to be light in the world of darkness. Christians have changed from darkness to light. Are you light? Would you describe your light as light? Have you been changed from darkness to light by the Holy Spirit?

Wherever there is someone who wants to find truth and righteousness they must be directed toward Christ. Those who desire to attain eternal life must guard and keep watch over themselves to observe the commandments. Not by claiming it but not living it. One must be willing to sell their most treasured possession and follow Christ. Without this we are not identified with Christ, but only parts of Him. Jesus said it is not enough to practice exterior religion truth must be lived out. Hypocrites pretend but do not live out what they profess. One must be willing to sacrifice their own thoughts, feelings, and judgments and be willing to lose their life. One must be willing to let go of all we used to believe and identify with the commands of God on a daily basis. When one sees Christ as the truth they not only believe in His words but practice the truth! One must be willing to live as Christ commands them. Live out His commands and live in obedience. One cannot hold to their own opinions and come to Christ! Jesus did not teach us about religion but to live His religion so we become holy like He is holy! Everyone who is of the truth hears His voice and receives what He is saying in obedience. They conform their lives to what they have heard. Through the challenges of life they go on living, obeying, and acting out what they have been taught.

If anyone desires to follow Christ they must deny themselves, take up their cross, and follow Christ. We must disregard ourselves and our sinful disposition that wants to rule us! We must act with diligence and abandon the old ways and disown ourselves. No matter how religious a person may be it is not until a person truly denies themselves and puts their faith in Jesus Christ that they can be a Christian. If we want to follow Christ we must deny ourselves.

Christ or Corruption?

In Christ God has predestined that the world should be saved. In order for the life of Christ to be seen in us we must be brought into a personal relationship with God through faith. The natural person is opposed to God and without spiritual life they will do evil because they place self before God. The sinful corruption that has infested mankind does not go away by ignoring it or giving it more ingredients that led to the corruption. Christians have responded to the Lord’s invitation and repented of their corruption and are determined to everything so Christ’s image will be formed in them. We do not lose heart but renounce the hidden things of shame! Holiness is produced when Christians willfully cooperate with God and renounce the corrupting behavior that once ruled their conscious. Death to the self-centered life is what produces freedom of faith, which God is looking for. Only as a Christian remains dead to self-sovereignty can the spirit of faith remain in their hearts. This is the hope of God through all generations, all those remaining consecrated to God as He sanctifies them. Only by faith in His blood can just men be made perfect. When Christ is the truth to someone they will live in victory in each area of their life. Does your life show the corruption of sin because of self-sovereignty? Or has your life changed by the Spirit of God so that what is shown through your life is the image of Christ? A life led and directed by the spirit of faith.

We will not make it by trusting in our own reason, intellect, and abilities. We are commanded by God to continue applying, doing, and believing what He has taught us as truth. God will not do for us, nor overlook what we refused to be diligent about. Eternal salvation is keeping our minds fixed on what leads to life; our borders are enlarged by looking straight ahead, but they will not be enlarged if as far we can see is ourselves. We must go beyond ourselves! We must go beyond our level of comfort. Only steady, unhindered progress keeps our way secure. Paul knew that God was able to keep what he had committed until that day! Hold fast! Keep the good things committed to you by the Holy Spirit that dwells within us. This is how each believer expands their borders; by trusting and moving through life trusting in God. We must do our best and trust in God for what we are unable to do ourselves. We must depart from iniquity and be diligent to present ourselves approved to God.

Paul wanted Christians to be convinced of the Lord’s oath to fulfill all of His promises and be sure of the truth of the Christian religion that all faithful believers speak and testify of. Our deliverance is from God and He does not fail in the lives of those who trust in Him! He saves to the uttermost those that come to Him through faith in Jesus Christ! Faith must be received gladly in the hearts of those who sorrow over their sin in repentance. Paul experienced what it meant to carry about the dying of the Lord Jesus so the life of Christ would be manifested. Even though our outward man is perishing the inward man is being renewed day by day. We must have faith! We cannot look to the light affliction of the moment but the eternal by faith. We must see the excellency of His power! Unwavering faith in Christ produces manifestation of the truth. We must renounce the hidden things of shame and faithless living. We must not walk in craftiness or handle the word of God deceitfully. Our fallen state does not need to keep us alienated from God. The seed of Christ is the cure for the disease! Through faith in Christ our human nature can be changed! The Spirit of Faith keeps our hearts from fainting when we face the tests of life. We do not lose heart even though our outward man is perishing, but our inward man is being renewed day by day. Our actions either affirm or deny our faith. We must demonstrate our faith! The Kingdom of Heaven is like treasure hidden in a field, and when a man finds it he sells all that he has to buy that field. To find divine Truth is the mission placed in front of every person who has ever been born. Every person since Adam and Eve who have been born have an inner void, and this void drives them to search for meaning and replace emptiness. An endless pursuit for this lost treasure ensues. People hunger and thirst for meaning, this is a result of sin and lost intimacy with God! But when one reaches crisis to become a true seeker and responds to the prevenient grace of God, the Lord is ready to give them the faith they need to sell all they own to buy the Truth of Jesus. When we believe in Christ as the Truth we become rich and full of light. Faith, hope, and love all return and abide within! As we decrease and God increases we being to be filled. God sends the Holy Spirit to fill our emptiness. When we receive Christ as the Truth and we are made free! The believer renounces the world and finds the Truth in Jesus. In order for a person to continue in the faith they must be convinced that Christ is the Truth. All the satisfaction we long for can only be found by being reunited with God, our Heavenly Father.

What is your life? It is a vapor that appears and vanishes. Consider how unpredictable, changeable, and insecure are our lives! Our lives are a vapor! God asks us to consider this question. What is your life? It is a vapor that appears for a little time and vanishes away. We do not know if we even have tomorrow! Our plans for the future may be frustrated! Why do we depend on ourselves and not fear and obey God? What about the reality of death? Do not ignore it and focus only on corruption! We are all just a vapor. Do not get caught up in pastimes, activities, and entertainment. Sports Stadiums are filled but Churches are empty! Examine the reality of life and death all around us. May we experience His reality in us! We must experience His Truth and not just hear about it. God wills to redeem us by Christ. God’s message of redemption is the Gospel of Jesus Christ. God wills to remove sin completely from us in Christ Jesus our Lord. We must see that this is the Truth, if we do not we cannot experience redemption. The wages of sin is death, but faith in Jesus Christ leads to eternal life. He is the living reality, and His Spirit living in me gives me the life of God. What is your life?

We must move in this day of grace. God is ready to receive us. He delights in mercy and gives to all a gracious warning. Many times the earth has been dry and deserving destruction. But God waits and postpones deviation on the wickedness of mankind. God often sends His Spirit to reprove us and bring our hearts back to fellowship with Him. If this takes place confidence is restored. Repentance and unity toward God is made possible through Christ. Those who walk in unity with God’s commands show themselves as truly born of God. But one day the day of Grace will end. God is calling to a hardened sin sick world to seek the Lord while He may be found and call upon Him while He is near! But we must step away from the culture and get alone with Him. We wont find God on the wide road that the carnally minded inhabitants of this world walk. We must step away from sin and the apostate Church of our day! Let the wicked forsake his way and return to the Lord. God will abundantly pardon. A Christianity that lacks the character of Christ is not true Christianity! The Church of today does not seek for God, but seeks a religion to appease the conscience and the thoughts. We must cast down arguments and all things that exalts itself against eh knowledge of God! Even if it is uncomfortable we must bring every thought into captivity to Christ. We must not ignore Truth but act on it! God is seeking action. Let the wicked forsake his ways and return to the Lord, for God will abundantly pardon.

Living Water

Humanity continues to attempt to find replacements for what we lost when we were separated from God. But none of this satisfies us for very long. Religion, human relationships, inventions, hobbies, systems, education, worldly pleasures, the accumulating of possessions have all come up short. Power, fame, and fortune all fail. Humanity tries to not grow old, not grow hungry, to not get sick and to not thirst. But all to no avail. The precious gift of God, His Living Water, has been seeping out because the crucible is cracked. Adam fell and since repentance was not his desire he was lost. Human hearts remained fractured to this day. When humans do not abide in the vine they will wither. Humans search and wander looking for the source of Life Giving water. But we dry up; age, and our leaves begin to fall off. Humans look for any kind of moisture! Like the woman Jesus met at the well in Samaria. Jesus says if anyone thirsts let them come to Me and drink! If anyone believes out of his heart will flow Living Water! The woman of Samaria abandoned her past and became a fountain. God fills those who are His with the water that flows from Him. We are filled with life when we are filled with God. God gives this life to all who are born anew of His Spirit and remain in Him by faith. God revives their soul eternally! Those who go on drinking will be satisfied. The blood of Christ purifies us from all spiritual defilement. Christ becomes a fountain springing up in them everlasting life. Are you drinking in and absorbing the Words of Christ?

This sermon jam is based on a prayer by the Virgin Mary. What we see in this prayer is a person who is humble and willing to bring her whole life forward. She is a living sacrifice. Every part is trusting in Christ. Her life is held by God. The driving motive of her labors and self-denial is the love of Christ. We must seek this same love so we can act with zeal, self-denial, and passion. But we cannot do this without power and entire sanctification. Jesus promises power so we can be witnesses for Him! Every true believer must meet Calvary face to face, God calls every believer to die! At Calvary sin meets death. God cannot fill a vessel that is full of self. Christ came to save us from our sins. To rescue us, to heal us, to make us holy. Mary is an example of a Christian who believes and offers more and more of her life to God. She was a house for God, she became a storehouse of blessing. This should become the testimony of every Christian. “Let it be to me according to Your word!”

The story of Job is the story of the Christian life. Every regenerated believer will face trials similar to Job in their life. He was blameless and upright, but he faced the consuming fire of the Lord. God allows true believers to go through trials. God is a refiner and purifier of silver. God will purify and purge Christians so they can be an offering of righteousness. Job did not turn away as a coward when he faced life’s trials. He was tested and came forth as gold. As Christians we are called to remain in faith no matter what trials we face. We are not to turn away, hide, or run from God. Job even said, “Though He slay me, still I will trust Him.” How much of the safety and tranquility of your life is built around false assumptions? How much have you been tested in situations? How have you done in these tests? The life of everyone will be tried by fire. How much are you willing to trust God?

This sermon jam focuses on the story of the prodigal son. Every time we want our own way we are rebelling against our Heavenly Father. Repentance is our only hope. God loves us and allows us to go through difficult times so we will turn to Him. Our lives become terrible when we are separated from the Giver of all life! There must be a change of mind. We may have resolutions, but we must act on them. The prodigal son made a resolution, “I will arise!” God gives freedom, righteousness, peace, and joy! All is possible by grace through faith in Jesus Christ. The true penitent must forsake sin because it brings sorrow to his own soul and grieves God. We must respond to the call of God and do something about it! In the story the prodigal son finds everything back home he desired in the faraway country. Stir Up the Fire

If the fire of God is going down in you God wants to breathe new life into it. Christ is coming in judgment, and His judgment will be based on our righteousness. Each one must stir up the fire of God within, holiness is the flame of God! Keep the faith warm and glowing always, it will not stay lit on its own, it must be cared for and attended to. The embers need to be stirred, fresh fuel must be added, and it is the Holy Spirit that does this work. The Church has been forgetful to do this and there will be a gradual setting in of difficult times. The Church must be reminded that if we become lovers of self and overcome by the cares and desires for the things of this world we will be overcome. The cause of the fire going out is distraction. We must be ready for Christ’s return! Yet the Church today is worldly and full of apostates. It is the time of the great falling away. Beware of those with religion in their creeds but not in their lives. God gives a true believer power, love, and a sound mind. When a Christian has given the Holy Spirit control over their lives they will have power to witness, power over temptation, and power to be a living sacrifice. We must not be conformed to this world, we must put on Christ-like patterns every day, and we must renew our minds and have Christ-centered thinking. Sin has impacted the entire person and we must daily consecrate ourselves to God. True faith is proven in suffering. Those that are cowardly have weak faith, these are those who recant when they face suffering. The cross is the only answer to compromise that the world has to offer. Will we stand before God and hear “well done?” Stir up the fire and add fresh fuel!

The hand of the Lord is not shortened that it cannot save, but the iniquities of the people have kept them from Him. Sin has separated us from God. He has turned away from the people because of their sin. We are in a negative condition because of our sin, no matter what false preachers say. Sin that God condemns is being practiced by the ungodly. It does not matter who endorses sin! What God’s Word says is wrong is wrong. Repent of your sin and entrust your life to God. Live and practice what Christ says in the Gospels. We must turn from our wicked ways so God can hear us from Heaven. Only then will God hear us from Heaven. We must be separated from our sin in order to be reconciled to God. Only then will God receive us. No matter what we call ourselves if we want the favor of God we must humble ourselves under Him. Obey the Word of the Lord and do not listen to anyone that tells you otherwise.

Where are the mighty signs today? The Lord’s hand is not short that He cannot save. Jesus Christ is the same yesterday, today, and forever. God shows no partiality. Why do we not see miracles in a greater measure? Why do we not see great revivals? Has the modern Church lost its vision? Many who claim to be Christians have little or no testimony, the modern Church has modeled itself after the world. The philosophy of man has put limitations on God. The Church has been influenced by the spirit of antichrist. How do we stop this slide? How do we bring about this change in ourselves and the world around us? We must first examine our own hearts, Truth and judgment begins in our own hearts! We can never overcome the world unless we have Truth in us. We are called to live above everything that is trying to bring us down. Most of the Church is living in disobedience. We must consecrate our lives to Him. We must overcome the world and consecrate our lives to God. God demands Truth I the inward parts! If the inside is not pure we will not stand before God. We must pray for a clean heart! We must ask God to do whatever it takes to take the garbage out of our hearts. Everything else is going to be burned up. Before there will be revival there must be judgment against sin in our own hearts. Consecration enables God’s greatness to be seen. Sin has to go! True consecration brings boldness and spiritual triumph to the body of Christ. If the Church will ever rise above the world around us we must pour our lives out for Christ. Believe God for great and mighty things. Ask the Holy Spirit, Lord is it I? Before there is revival there must be judgment against sin in our own hearts.

Biblical doctrine teaches that after someone has been born again through repentance, regeneration, and adoption, that person belongs to God. No longer do they belong to themselves. They are a new creation. The Sprit of God lives in them. They do not build on carnality, that grips this age, they build on Jesus Christ. In every generation everything about the rise and fall of mankind depends on what people do with the commands of God. It was never God’s will for people to disobey God and build on sand. Humanity ignores the voice of God and builds on sand. Every aspect of our society has been impacted! All institutions are fallen. God calls us to godly sorrow and true repentance. God calls all men everywhere to repent. True repentance is when one hears the commands of Jesus, confesses their sins, obeys the commands of God, and remains completely open before God. Repentance is a prerequisite to be born again. Repentance calls for a person to continually do what Jesus says. You must be willing to repent and go on repenting until God’s works is finished within you. One who does not do what God commands is like a foolish man who builds his house on the sand and when the storm comes the house falls. Will you obey the commands of God and live? Or will you rebel and transgress by refusing to do what He commands?

Adam in his original state was worthy of eternal life. He was encircled with the presence of God both inside and out. But when he rebelled God departed from him wickedness was birthed in his heart. He was penalized for his sin by death. All of his descendants became darkened and futile in their hearts. They did not glorify God but became futile in their thoughts. Christ came and won the victory over death and reversed the curse of Adam. The life, death, and resurrection of Christ made Him the Savior. Both Eve and Adam tried to be like God, and following their example all have sinned and fallen short of the glory of God. The human race has become foolish, shallow, and our minds have been led further and further from the truth. By confessing ourselves to become wise we have become fools. The veil is only taken away in Christ! Jesus Christ is calling us to salvation through sanctification so we too can obtain the glory of Jesus Christ. Only those who have been changed by God through Christ have lost the sting of death. Every born again believer is eligible for salvation. Only through regeneration can we bear the image of the Heavenly Man! Jesus Christ is the model of what the Holy Spirit living in a man can look like. Now is the judgment of the world. If Christ is lifted up He will draw all people to Himself. May we wish to see Jesus and may God grant us the grace to do so.

What tree will you eat from? Those seeking liberation from the power of what keeps them captive can be free only by the Holy Spirit. The freedom Jesus spoke of was not financial, political, or physical as many think today. Mankind’s greatest threat is not the exterior systems of the world. Our sin is our greatest enemy. Sin enables us to look at everything from a self-centered perspective. Satan came to the Garden and said you shall not surely die. Many Christian institutions and leaders are leading people astray! Many are being led away by the doctrines of demons that focus on self. This is even in many modern books in a Christian bookstore and even in mission’s trips! None of these will free mankind from sin. Man cannot free himself from sin slavery. Man must be saved through repentance! Only repentance can free one from the snare of the Devil. Jesus came to restore mankind to a pre-fall state. This takes a cooperation of human and divine will. There must be a cleansing. This begins when one admits their sin and comes to God in repentance. Will we obey God or put ourselves first?

Will You Follow the Lord Wherever He Goes?

Will you follow the Lord wherever He goes? Or have you made a superficial profession at a time of emotional climax? One must entirely devote themselves to Christ by setting their hearts entirely on following Him. When Christ calls one to follow after Him they must entirely surrender to Him and not turn back. He must be and remain their greatest desire as they act out their faith, not making excuses or turning back. This is the Gospel call. There are only two options as the call goes out, one can either repent and follow Him with all their heart, or turn away from Him. Will you live for the eternal weight of glory? Why Does This Generation Seek a Sign?

Mark in his Gospel draws attention away from exterior signs and to the internal transformation and the power that results from it. Jesus denounces those who sought for signs as being wicked and adulterous. Those who search for tongues, prophets, personal experiences, signs, wonders, are not searching for the Truth. The emphasis of true teaching is holiness. Those who seek outward signs instead of inward holiness are heading towards destruction. Right and wrong is not based on how we feel, it is based on the Bible. Jesus warns His followers not to be tricked by pretenders. The Pharisees were pretenders. They sought for “holiness” without obedience to God. It was pretended holiness. Bad doctrine is like leaven and Christ calls His disciples away from it. God has given all mankind a will to seek but to seek for Truth, not to fall into relativism. There is an absolute Truth and it is found in the Word of God. Not in the pantheism of Greek philosophy that Paul came across in Ancient Athens. We must not allow our reason and abilities to get in the way of God’s will. Secular humanism is the core of the demise of all the older Christian denominations. Many organizations that once preached truth have given in to the lie that you can ignore God and embrace reason to save the world. But you cannot be the bride of Christ and married to the world at the same time. In the last days many will seek for a sign and miss Christ. Anti-Christ will sit in the Church and lead many astray. Those who truly desire to follow after Christ must take up their cross upon a path of humiliation and death. There will be no eternal life unless one dies to themselves.

The testimony of the Church in this late hour is discouraged and disappointed. Many are becoming discouraged. Many hide behind religion but are actually are at war against God. Many hold God in contempt and claim a right for themselves. This is modern America. People want to be in control of their own destiny and stand against all laws based on God’s Law. All who worship idols are drawn away from God and Satan and his servants refuse to come under the authority of God. The whole world lies under the sway of the wicked one. Many find satisfaction under the power of Satan, he is the god of this world. All sin and destruction is done by him! All sorrow, sin, violence, and bloodshed are done by him. All that is wicked and evil in this world is the ideas of Satan! He has tormented the world in every age but behind what we can see there is another Empire. This one God rules over. The Church of God has a High Priest and they draw near Him by faith through the blood of Christ. The Church has hope and do not waiver and know that God is faithful! The Church will be victorious through it all!

True Repentance

Many in the Church today wonder what true repentance is. Jesus says over and over again in the Gospels that if one does not repent they will perish. The first words of the preaching ministry of both John the Baptist and Jesus Christ was “repent and believe the Gospel.” What is true repentance? Repentance is defined as a sorrow for sin that compels one to turn from sin and surrender all entirely to Jesus Christ. An even better way to define repentance is to see an example of true repentance. Perhaps the greatest example of repentance in the New Testament is when Mary Magdalene came to Christ and poured out an alabaster flask of fragrant oil and washed his feet with her tears and her hair. She also kissed His feet as she washed them. Mary shows how her life had been transformed by the Grace of God. Jesus says to her that wherever the Gospel is preached what she has done would be told as a memorial to her. May the Church today look to Mary as an example of true repentance. You shall be perfect as your Father in Heaven is perfect. This is what God called Abraham to do. He called him to be perfect, to be blameless. Not only sincere but complete, upright, and holy. The same call goes forth to all who desire to follow Christ. God’s Covenant is offered to all who desire a new heart, to establish perfect love within. How will this take place? How will one’s heart be changed? Perfection is freedom from all sin because God dwells within. Obedience out of love. Self-centered, sensuous thoughts keep us in bondage and God calls us to love the Father above everything else. We must seek to do the will of God. We must look to Christ to be transformed by His grace. We can either have glory or gloom. Does your life illuminate Jesus or illustrate you?

To be a living and willing sacrifice one must have their conscience clean. This is the work of the Holy Spirit when one obeys the Gospel and follows Christ. A living, willing sacrifice begins with one denying themselves. They remove all thoughts of themselves daily. Yielding to the perfect love of God. Removing all thoughts of yourself, daily destroying these thoughts! To follow Christ as a living sacrifice they take up their cross and execute their self-centered life. All exterior religion must be killed. There must no longer be a “me first” attitude. People who live for themselves do not truly follow Christ. One must remove the mindset that puts self-first. Until this happens one has not taken up their cross. Many are looking at Christ from a distance and have not taken up their cross! Everything else is carnal religion. No one can delight to do God’s will without His nature and Spirit. One must deny themselves and die to themselves to truly follow after Christ.
