Is this analysis useful? The example seems to showcase the difference between good and bad writing, but how is this relevant to newspaper vs. blog reporting. As a counter-example - Damien Cox, sports columnist for the Star, offers oddles of analysis. The Toronto Sun, a certifiable rag, also packed with good sports analysis. Whether newspapers will be able to continue to afford such good reporting...that remains to be seen.

canada is only one of 193 widely recognized sovereign states. canada's criteria for accepting an individual as a member of canadian society is lax relative to say iceland, japan, or switzerland. for example, there exist generations of japanese-born "koreans" living in japan who cannot vote because they refuse to adopt japanese names. are these "koreans" japanese? they don't consider themselves japanese and japan doesn't consider them japanese either. if you apply your ethnocentric canadian criteria to these "koreans", like you've done with our "french" friends, you arrive at the conclusion that these "koreans" are japanese. uso while canada's accept-all policy is romantic, in most cases, xenophobic europe included, to be "french" is to accept france and for france to accept you. so, you're right -- but only in canada, as they say.

I didn't say they love France. I mean, they were rioting so they probably don't. That doesn't change the fact they are French, your ridiculous notions of what that means aside. When I apply for a Canadian passport, there isn't a spot on the form to ask me how much I like Hockey and Poutine. What's up with that, AMIRITE?

yeah i'm sure they love france. i'm sure they spent their summers driving around europe with papa visting the battefields of the napoleonic wars. and i'm sure they don't miss a chance to cheer on les bleus. but of course you're right. you're still schelpping on about this 4 years running, so i have no doubt you interviewed all the detainees, reviewed all the footage, and reenacted all 20 days in your bigoted backyard -- i mean picketed backyard.

i never saw this french infitada so to speak as something rooted in discrimination or racism. i didn't see it as anything other than poor people rioting. to me it was just a coincidence that the poor people in this case were immigrants. really i was hoping for a sequel to la heine.
