My last days in Pune were memorable practically just chilling out with my roomies and office folks. Its been awesome fun with all these guys around...Maddy, Tomite, Vinite, Sabby, Neverknown, Kiran and even Kaka Khairnar...all the dinner time talks at Venky villa and again at Suraj Nagar ( deviation from the post for a Tomitesque joke: Sabby on our Murud Beach trip: "On our next trip...lets get the WAGS and go to Sun City? Tomite: "U mean apna Suraj Nagar??), all the drunken ramblings (U f***rs still haven't told me what the hell was floating!) and all the bluffs targetted on Vinite and Tomite (Vinite became THE target much to Bando's relief). Awesome time! (I can go on with the memories...will do in a separate blog if i remember...but if i don't...do know that u guys rock!)
It was a wonderful gesture on my team's behalf to give me a neat Titan voucher and a never-to-be-forgotten "what Sachin Tendulkar feels like" moment when I said my goodbyes for the final time. A team of forty five including my manager, lined up and gave me an applause as I walked up to that gate (which I always 'push' instead of 'pulling'). The feeling was just overwhelming to see my entire team and my old teammates and other old friends just standing and applauding as I waved goodbye and walked out of the Aetna Field Office for the very last time...a moment I'll cherish for the rest of my life.
Now that I'm free...well sleeping a lot...A LOT!! saw the IPL game of aamche Indians vs the Delhi Dare hue Devils...more about that in a separate post...just trying to settle down into a routine now. I've been trying to put up something on blogger for quite some time but apparently there was some virus called Trojan.Drondog which kept blocking all google sites and kept displaying some garbage on the Dashboard page whenever I opened blogger in IE. Low blow tactic from Microsoft??huhuhahahaha we need to investigate!! But har Microsoft ke liye ek Fox rehta hai aur use hum Firefox bolte hai...so a special thanks to the engineers at Mozilla for creating such an awesome software..
More ramblings to come in the near future...m targetting a post a day...kindly bear with the writer...

From The Fountainhead

It is not in the nature of man-nor of any living entity-to start out by giving up, by spitting in one's own face and damning existence; that requires a process of corruption whose rapidity differs from man to man. Some give up at the first touch of pressure; some sell out; some run down by imperceptible degrees and lose their fire, never knowing when or how they lost it. Then all of these vanish in the vast swamp of their elders who tell then persistently that maturity consists of abandoning one's mind; security, of abandoning one's values; practicality, of losing self-esteem. Yet a few hold on and move on, knowing that that fire is not to be betrayed, learning how to give it shape, purpose and reality. But whatever their future, at the dawn of their lives, men seek a noble vision of man's nature and of life's potential.

Some gyan for a change

Feels great to wake up in the morning and read a good news in the mail. Finally an admit from one of my preferred bschools. It was one application where everything went right, from the essays till the interview. In the process, I realised a few things that I would like to share (if anyone is interested ;-) ).

1. Don't blindly accept all comments that your counsellor gives you. I had heavily editied my Tepper and North Carolina essays based on my counsellor's suggestions. At the end, my essays did not reflect myself and my own career goals, no matter how hazy they might sound. For my Kelley essays, I chose not to edit my essays too much and went ahead with what I felt was right. I believe one particular essay in which I could add a touch of humour made the difference. The adcoms have to read thousands of essays. If you can show something new, something fresh, they will definitely appreciate that.

2. If you have an opportunity to have a face-to-face interview, take it. Show them your confidence. It might be my personal opinion, but my face-to-face interview was smoother and definitely more comfortable than my telephonic interview. A personal interview with the Head of Admissions of a good bschool is worth the experience. It was very professional but casual at the same time and I got good insights into Kelley with the answers given to my questions. I believe that this is where Indian bschools miss a trick or two. Presentations are usually dull. One-on-one sessions are definitely more informative.

3. Avoid cliched answers in interviews. If you have a list of '200 most likely questions asked in bschool interviews', shred it. You cannot have all answers prepared. Yes, prepare a few answers, but don't learn them like the formulae in HSC Chemistry. The adcoms want to know you. They will ask you the regular questions but they will also ask you stuff like "if you had to go back and change one thing in your professional life, what would that be?". They ask these questions to evaluate you better, to see if you are the right fit for them.

4. Know the school well. Ask questions that really interest you. eg.Kelley gives students an opportunity to complete their final year courses online. I asked them if students actually go for it and how does it compensate for the group activities that one might miss out on? He was honest with his answer and told me that in the last three yearss only person had applied for it and that the school did not recommend it a lot. Also, do ask them about the life in the city, especially if the school is based in a student's town.

5. Suit up for the interview and be professional. Do exchange basic courtesy. If the adcom member asks you how your day was, do give a reply which is more than 'fine!' but keep it short.

Anyway, I guess too much gyan makes a blog dull and these are just my experiences and one might disagree with my approach as well.
Feels good...this has been just a wonderful day!

Ausholes!

Dear Mr. Andrew Symonds,

First of all, Kudos...not for 16 wins in a row but for your splendid act on Day 2 of the SCG test. Summoning an unsuspecting Bajji, who has been giving nightmares to your Captain (Quote frm Ponting before the Sydney test: "I'm not Bhajji's bunny"...eh ya sure you can say that before the 3rd test again...he wont be there to make you look like a fool), for a brief chat and then accusing the same of racist comments...For the benefit of the readers of this particular letter, let me now tell you what exactly happened on day 2 at SCG.
Symonds: Hey Bhajji, you f@#@$@##@# !!!!!!!
Bhajji: Chup be saale...jaake bowling daal...teri maa ki aankh...
Symonds: What was that?I'm a monkey ass?

So as you can see, Bhajji just made a small offending comment about your mom...nothing racist about it...hope thats alrite with you mayte! And FYI...you are not getting all those monkey chants because of your race. We, in India dont know what your race is, or for that matter what our race is. We're so busy with our own regionalism and communalism that we dont have time to worry about our race or for that matter even yours. I mean, if Thierry Henry n Ronaldinho ever come to India, we wont abuse them in their game against East Bengal. So why the hell would we racially abuse you?

Let me tell you why...its just because of the way you look. Why dont you just admit that you are one ugly bastard and move on with your game? For starters, stop putting that stupid cream below your lips. Cut your damn hair and then step on the pitch. Maybe my people will start stop making those monkey chants and maybe give you what we call "maa bahen" ki galiyan.

Anyway, monkey?well dont know about that...but I do feel that you look like that predator creature from that Arnold movie...have a look

So I hope that I have cleared the confusion for you. So let me just go back and enjoy a pint of arguably the best beer in the world, and the only good thing about Australia. I'm sincerely hoping that the third test does get played, and the Indians destroy you where you expect them to make a meek surrender. Cheers!

Regards,
An extremely pissed off Indian Cricket Fan
"Proud to wear blue"

quote-unquote and the one they forgot...

Quoted in all newspapers/internet sites today regarding Sachin Tendulkar's alleged retirement plans:
"I enjoy every moment I have on a cricket field, but the recovery times between games these days are difficult, especially for one-day internationals, and that's my major obstacle.

"It does take its toll on the body. When you are 22 or 23, you recover a lot more quickly. Its a bigger shame that these people are on the verge of bringing down a government just for the heck of it. They say that the Indo-US nuclear deal compromises on the sovereignity of the country and is bringing India closer to the pro-capitalist evil superpower. Ideological differences they call it. Well, Mr. Karat and Mr. Yechury should answer this question. What the hell were you thinking when you supported this government in the first place? Why didn't your obsolete Marxist ideology stop you from supporting a government that is supposed to be DEMOCRATIC? Is "the enemy of my enemy is my friend" theory a base of your ideologies? Give us one instance where communism still works?
The basis on which the nuclear deal might get scrapped is ridiculous. The way I see it, we dont have to sign the NPT, we dont have to put all reactors under international scanner, we can keep our nuclear arsenal, we'll get more weapons and have the US as a major ally for the first time. The Russians, the Japanese, the Aussies and the French have all offered us fuel needed. We might finally get that permanent UN security council membership and have our say in WTO talk. But far more important than any of these is the need to solve the power crisis that our country is facing at the moment. Nuclear energy will be the solution to this crisis and we can get rid off the power cuts once and for all. So if the US is letting India have its cake and eat it too why is the Left bickering so much? Frankly speaking, they haven't done much other than create obstacles in major government initiatives such as the Pension reforms, Labor reforms and the Rural reforms and increasing foreign investment in various sectors. If around 20 states have accepted these reforms, why is the Left still hell bent on creating unnecessary obstacles? I think the Left is just trying to save its interests without looking at the big picture. (a communist cliche...they never see into the future). The labor reforms will hit the unions run by the Left hard. The Left has just panicked and done a very rash thing. Hope we make them pay for it!
If they bring down this government, I don't think that they will be in a position to call the shots after the elections. Bengal hasn't forgotten Nandigram and Singur. Kerala is no longer a Left stronghold. The Congress has done a lousy job in the state elections but they might just get the sympathy vote. I've never been pro Congress but I really feel that the government shouldn't compromise on a vital national issue to appease its allys. Mr. Singh should put his foot down and dare the Left to go ahead with its ultimatum. Maybe we'll get rid of these commies once and for all in the next election.

...thanks to me

Liverpool FC named most supported Premier League club online

liverpoolfc.tv needs to thank me (with e-season ticket) for my overwhelming support in terms of traffic redirection to their site...yup n u gotta thank my bosses and my HR for the wonderful time on bench that I'm enjoying at the moment...
Well designed site though...simple and content rich...exactly what a fan wants...
My 2 cents for Chelsea and Man U site admins...get rid of all the Flash...too painful waiting for the sites to load.

youuuuuuu beauuuttttttttttttttyyyyyy!

Ok I know its the first game of the season and the entire world is skeptical about Liverpool's consistency over the entire season blah blah blah...but WAT A FREE KICK! 85th min and liverpool have just conceeded a goal because of a rare handball by Carra. In this particular edition, the only thing more lacklustre than the crowd turnout has been the show put up by the 10 teams against the mighty Aussies.
Damn! I hate the kiwis. They gave us the false hope that yes, the Aussies aren't invincible;that their bowling attack is weak if you can get past McGrath;that any total put up by them can be chased. When the big match situation demanded though, there was a meak surrender;white flags were out and not a single player did a Archilles ala Brad Pitt and put his hand up to take the challenge.
<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="http://bp1.blogger.com/_24Wd2lOPeno/RjR_iCAD0RI/AAAAAAAAAFA/ChQhBQJ7gcE/s400/_42860631_gilchrist3_afp416.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5058808504073310482" />
Boring it may seem to a few, the Australian show is far from that. All you can do is watch in awe the way they bat. Haydos and Gilly are the best opening pair in the world and both of them are the kings of comebacks;bull terriers who'll never give up and take the attack to the opposition, no matter how bad their form is. If either of them falls, you have the best batsman in the world (on form) who bloody murders the bowlers. If you can't get him out early, Ponting is going to kill you...its a guaran-damn-tee. And even if you get the top three out early, you cant afford to take it easy. What follows next is the best young middle order in world cricket in the form of Clarke, Symonds, Hussey and Watson. If any of them is at the crease in the 40th over, the score inevitably touches 300. The sad part is, we haven't got the opportunity to see the other batsmen bat. I can't even remember the last time I've seen Bracken and McGrath taking guard.
<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="http://bp3.blogger.com/_24Wd2lOPeno/RjSBBiAD0SI/AAAAAAAAAFI/vEvYo1v__Ns/s400/75175.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5058810144750817570" />
Their bowling is supposedly weak. But frankly speaking, I can't understand where the so called experts see a weakness. Tait has been an able replacement for Lee and with the Pigeon choking up the batsmen at one end, you have no option left but to take a chance against Tait or Bracken. And this is where the batsmen make mistakes. The Proteas tried to overcome that problem by taking the attack to McGrath, but ended up looking quite stupid. The likes of Smith, Kallis, Tendulkar and Pietersen must be heaving a huge sigh of relief at the retirement of McGrath. Guys don't get your hopes too high, Stuart Clarke seems just as capable.
So can the Aussies be beaten?Yes, but you need 11 players who are mentally stronger than the 11 players wearing the Baggy green cap. You need a team that doesn't get carried away by one off wins, who dont surprise themselves if they manage a win or two over the Aussies. Right now, there is no such team in world cricket. All we can do is hope that some one manages to come up with a team with a killer attitude like the Aussies. We have 4 years to wait and watch. Step up Dave Whatmore.

Google all the way!

The pieces in the entire google puzzle are now falling into place.(i'll explain what pieces later in this blog entry). I was just surfing around these tools on the top left corner of my gmail inbox main page. What fascinated me the most were the docs and spreadsheet tools. I believe Google has created a masterpiece. With two simple but powerful and easy to use tools, it has challenged Microsoft's Office products. As I write this, the brilliant minds at Microsoft will be at work, trying to figure out a way to nip this problem in the bud before it grows into something big and eats up its market for Office suite related products. They have every right to worry because frankly speaking Google's office products are amazing. These are true Opensource products and all you need to use them is a decent net connection.

The people at Google have done a good job in integrating the core functionalities of MS Excel spreadsheet app in its own Spreadsheet product. You can perform all the basic operations that you could in Ms Excel. Rite now, the Google Spreadsheet App (GSA) does not have advanced features like pivot tables, macros and filters but the package looks promising. You have all the basic features such as creating a new workbook, adding new sheets, deleting sheets, adding rows, columns, copy, paste, merge, formatting of rows, columns &cells, sorting and a good range of formulae. They have just added a chart feature to this application which looks good. The sheets get saved after every 2 minutes. So you can carry on working on a particular doc without worrying about backup or losing data due to network problems. You can share the docs with others having a google account and even publish the sheets making the data available to everyone. The application allows you to keep multiple versions of the same file. Everytime you make changes and save the file, the version before the change is backed up. Quite a handy feature should the file get corrupted. All you have to do is revert to the previous version. The application allows you to export and import spreadsheets and workbooks in formats such as CSV(comma separated variables) and xls. Other than this, you can export the sheets in html and pdf formats. The application allows multiple users to work on the same doc as well. Cool isn't it?

I hope more people become aware of these fantastic applications. Right now people are used to Microsoft Office and Lotus Notes products;both of which are freaking expensive and require huge amounts of disk space. All you need for the Google products is a decent (64kbps will suffice) net connection and disk space for storing the spreadsheets only.I definetly dont mind a few ads on the page if you can provide me with a free office suite-hell maybe i'll click a few ads just to make the guys at google happy :-). These are products targetted to those users who can't afford to purchase expensive machines for the sake of running some sleak looking Microsoft OS and whose use of the Office suite is limited to the word processor, spreadsheet application and a presentation maker. Google Labs are already working on a presentation creating software and if the design of Picassa is anything to go by then it sure will be sleak and fast. I'm also hoping that applications like these are exploited by innovators for designing low cost computers such as the Simputer. I've seen a simputer work, it looks good but its damn slow if you run the open office products on it. Net based softwares like the ones created by Google will definetly reduce the load on such devices. I'm sure Google will be thinking of making a lite version of these products available on mobile phone devices enabled with Edge,GPRS etc. Microsoft has already started reacting to this and are planning to make window xp and office xp available for under $3.00!!So they're in a way implying that Windows Vista and Office 2007 are niche products for high end users and the XP suite is now for those who cannot afford monstrous machines for running the Vista package. Well played Microsoft!

Now to my earlier point of pieces falling together in the big Google puzzle. Sometime back, the internet was flooded with news and blogs about Google coming up with its own OS -the GooOS. Google itself hasn't announced anything from its end about any OS plans in the near future. But it seems quite realistic. What Google has now is a popular email service, an online office suite, blogging tools, the premier search service,an image editor and an excellent online storage option. If you have noticed, then all images on your blog and picassa web, your videos shared on youTube, all documents and your email are all a part of the "2.88 Gb and growing" web space. All these features seem to be a part of Google's vision of creating a free OS that supposedly is web based as well! Such an OS will cater to all devices-not just PCs. I hope that Google does come up with something so fantastic. The day of the traditional OSes mite just get numbered!

p.s. I wrote this entire entry in google's word processor :)

The dame in black...

geeeeeeeeeeeee wowwwwwwwww!!long black straightened hair...almond face...smart black shirt and black trousers...she walked past us and the convo with the colleague went.."yeah i'll update the...the...a...a...umm...yeah tracker"... probably the first time i've said "uuuffff!"...god bless ur species!!

The hitmen

There you have it...Superman has eaten the cake. Not just any cake, but a cake with the tricolor on it. There he was, in one of the hundreds of parties that he's invited to, where he spends 2-3 mins for some kodak (or powershot) moments, cuts a cake or pops the bubbly and leaves. But we have the hitmen ready-sharpshooters with weapons deadlier than kryptonite, well aware of what pastries are going to be served, well instructed by the mafia bosses to shoot Superman when he cuts the cake.
They do their job with ruthless efficiency and by noon next day, Superman's remains hit the front pages of "the best selling newspapers", the trashy afternoon tabloids and the thousands of "best selling regional newspapers". By the end of the day, superman is killed again in the assemblies, in political meets which are marked by the traditional effigy burning ritual. Superman has died, yet again.

One hit per day isn't enough though. They want more. The search starts for another hero to be hit.Someone comes up with the idea- why not the "to be president","the technocrat magnifico","the face of modern india" etc etc. So they head to the huge state-of-the-art campus where the commander in chief is doing what he does the best-inspire the youth. They wait for the interviews...eager to know what the two most brilliant minds in India have to say. But before all that starts, they stand up for the anthem. And there they get their next kill. The instrumental version of the 52 sec. song is played. They ask, why the instrumental version?"the president to be" gives an answer which is interpreted as blasphemous. By the time the sun rises again, some self proclaimed son of the kannadiga soil calls the possible appointment of the technocrat as the President to be a disgrace. Clinical finish again...another hero is killed. A blog written to earn two minutes of cheap publicity by killing one of the countrie's true champions. It is a highly biased, 500 word piece of trash that is politically motivated and without much research, facts or logic aimed at what tabloids do the best...killing icons;the media at work this time isn't a tabloid but instead it is the website of the country's top news channel (atleast for me it was).

Ruthlessly efficient these hitmen...God save those who want to make a difference because these hitmen will stop at nothing to kill their image.

ooh ouch india...haara india

ok...so india lost...sponsors gonna lose money...effigies will get burnt...blah blah blah...i dont care..this post is just to offer my condolences to all idiots who purchased tickets for the india-pak game on april 15th...enjoy bangladesh vs ireland!!lol!!!

300...beyond awesome!

The first review that I had read about this movie asked “Can I give it more than 10 stars?” Boy does Zach Snyder's epic answer the question!! It lives up to all hype surrounding its release. The Matrix trilogy set a benchmark for CG and visual effects. 300 has taken this benchmark to a totally new level. It is a visual masterpiece. It is gruesome…bloody violent but it is the kind of violence which you don’t want to stop. The war sequences are shot brilliantly…the action moves at a pace that is fast and furious...with spears and swords colliding against nothing else but flesh…with blood gushing all around…limbs getting chopped off…and the rocking soundtrack playing in the background…and then suddenly it stops…there’s dead silence…the soldiers just walk around…you think that its all over…and then out of the blue it starts all over again…Zach Synder is a genius! He throws the action at you and then stops it for you to catch a breath and follows it up with something even more gruesome…as if he’s making you ready for the next level! The cinematography is simply superb….hundreds of cameras capturing the action…awesome use of bullet time motion…but forget all that…how the hell did he cast 300 men with 8 packs who can ACT…god alone knows…I mean even a freaking hunchback has muscles popping out of his back! Gerard Butler is simply superb as Leonidus...so is the guy narrating the whole thing. Once you’ve seen 300, the likes of Gladiator, Troy, Kingdom of Heaven will start looking pale in comparison. It is a must watch…don’t miss it!

the thrill

...is missing-at work, at home, in life generally! Sure, the wily old fox Lalu got acquitted. But that's all right. Lets leave that aside. This is a day to celebrate. Liverpool are back. India are back. The Indian judiciary is back and how! It took years and years for Jessica to get her justice but i guess she can finally rest in peace now. The Delhi High Court has answered to the nation's cry. It has made me strangely reaffirm my faith in the judiciary of this country. Ofcourse, there are thousands of pending cases, hundreds of corrupt judges and lawyers but now, they are under public scrutiny. The nation has woken up. The media is doing what its supposed to do- expose the truth. The politicians are irked by the so called "invasion" by the media. But who cares?? If invading their lives is doing something great for the country then so be it. The media deserves its due credit in influencing public opinion in these high profile cases and hope they can keep up with the good work.
If justice is back, thanks to the media; then so are their favourite whipboys...the men in Blue. It took 15 years and 3 tours to do it but finally we have won a test match in South Africa. They batted with a purpose, bowled with controlled aggression and fielded..well like the South Africans and finally did it! What was good to see was the return of the Prince of Calcutta and the signs of greatness of the Master Blaster. Yes he got out on deliveries he should have left alone, but Sachin Tendulkar is showing signs of yet another comeback. The shuffling across the stumps was no longer there. It was replaced by fluent cover-drives and rock solid front-foot defence. I see a century from the MRF willow (of tendulkar...NOT lara) in the near future (read boxing day test). N yeah, Sreesanth rocks. There couldnt be a better way to shut up a bowler by smashing him for a six and then dancing all the way to the non striker's end. That might not be the greatest of dances but was definetly the funniest shit seen in a test match :)
This has been a great day...we need more of these.

My favourite lines/quotes from a literary masterpiece :)

Sometimes you love only with hope, sometimes, you cry without tears. Why? You may ask. Is it work? Is it the afternoon shifts? Is it the CAT preparations? NO, no and Hell NO!! I’m frustrated because the love of my life, my beloved Liverpool F.C isn’t at the top of the EPL. There is nothing more frustrating then watching a Liverpool side lose to Bolton Wanderers and Everton…wait there is…watching Liverpool draw 1-1 against Blackburn at Anfield. All the hopes that we Reds saw after the Charity Shield seem to fade away every weekend. Goalkeeping blunders and shaky defending by the otherwise awesome defenders have cost a lot. 7 matches played and only 2 cleensheets. Well the stats don’t speak well of the form that the Liverpool back four and Reina are in right now. Fabio Aurellio is still struggling to adjust to the Zonal Marking System. Pepe Reina is in a wretched goalkeeping form. Football pundits are adding to Rafa Benitez’s problems by being overcritical of the squad rotation policy. With these and many more problems galore, Liverpool are traveling this weekend to Old Trafford to meet their greatest rivals - Manchester United

The Red derby is always special-full of passion, hard tackles, tempers flying all around the park and some Man U fans trying to heckle the visiting fans during the chant of the holy mantra-YNWA. I remember Man U fans booing the visiting Glasgow Celtic fans for singing “You’ll Never Walk Alone”. The feeling is mutual, and the Red Devils are always in for something scarier than hell when they walk down that Anfield tunnel, look at the “THIS IS ANFIELD” signboard that has made many other teams crap in their pants and then walk out on the pitch to face music of the KOP. The venue for this weekend is however The Theatre of Dreams- probably the place to start fulfilling the elusive dream of capturing the Premiership.

For me, this is the make-or-break game of the season for Liverpool. People might say that this is just a game and there is a lot of football to be played. But the outcome of this game will definitely have an impact on the morale of the players. Man U are a team who won’t just beat you, they will make sure that they destroy the iota of confidence that you possess in your abilities. Ask Arsene Wenger and his Arsenal about the night they went 49-0 unbeaten to Old Trafford and came back with their shoulders drooping and haven’t won a title since then. Ask Jose Mourinho…his star studded line up hit a low for a while after their battle against United last season. So, a loss on Sunday would shatter any remaining hopes of bringing back the Premiership to Anfield…but a win could turn the entire season around.

What Liverpool need is inspiration. They need to treat this as the game of their life. It’s going to be a war and they must battle off all the pain that will be inflicted in the 90 mins. They need to bounce back on their feet if they are knocked down, I guess they will be...Rooney hasn’t scored in ages and the signs look ominous. Liverpool need to mark him down. Bring him down hard…that’s the only way to stop the raging bull. Well, if Rooney hasn’t scored, then so hasn’t Stevie G. Liverpool’s General must fire…nah..he will fire. Liverpool need inspiration and Gerrard needs to give just that. The contest will also be a battle of the super subs…Solksjaer and Garcia. Say whatever you want, Luis Garcia is effective. If Gerrard is credited for inspiring the Istanbul and Cardiff comebacks, then Luis Garcia is the guy who made the trip to those cities possible. I hope he has some role to play in this contest because he lives for big match situations.

Whatever, it’s going to be a treat to soccer fans as usual, and a Reds win will change their fortunes for the season. As usual, I shall be on the edge of my seat…ready to jump off in ecstasy when Riise, Gerrard, Kuyt, Alonso and company thump in one of their trademark bolters. As a true red, I’ll make sure that they won’t walk alone :)

Mary Jane

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

She's 21, beautiful and innocent as she walks down the aisle
With a radiant face, twinkling eyes and a mesmerizing smile
They look at her in awe; she's the most beautiful thing in the room
As she walks towards her man, her prince...the world’s luckiest groom

Look into her eyes, they speak a different story, a tale her smile can't tell
Deep inside those twinkling gems is regret, unshed tears for the hand she once held
"If only I had stayed by his side, if only I would have given us a chance", they mourn
"Why my Lord do I still love him",she weeps,"Why do his memories make my heart burn"

With every step that she takes, her mind wanders to the days by the lake
And her body shivers by the thought of his touch, the love that they used to make
His memories still haunt her, for days she hasn't slept
"Lord, help me stop loving him,for the choices I made weren't mine",she wept

She reaches the end of the aisle; it pains to hide the tears with a smile
She looks up at the best man…their eyes meet for one last time
Their eyes speak volumes, its time for some closure, its time to say goodbye
“I do!” she says with a smile on her face, I guess not all love songs rhyme

Nostalgia

"Jab mein chotta baccha tha
Badi shararat karta tha
Meri shararat pakdi jaatiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiii
Tab roshan hota tha Bajaj"
Well I'm quoting this jingle for 2 reasons:
1> to remind u of the beating that you used to get from your mom after getting a pasting from that smelly brat in your colony
2> to remind you of much simpler times...before the invasion of internet and cable tv in your life...when Ruffles and Mcdonald's were never heard of...when the "Goldspot factory" used to actually make "Goldspot"...when returning NRIs used to get cans of coke n fanta as gifts (cheap bastards) and when the coolest toy you owned was that stupid brick game.
So guys, I'm taking y'all on a trip down the memory lane as I try to recollect some of the stuff that we watched on TV (doordarshan who??) ate, drank n the cool toys we played with...here I go...

Stuff Lost In Time 1 : The Giant Robot
Remember the giagantic papier mache guy??Probably the coolest superhero that we had when we grew up watching Doordarshan. This show was about a kickass dumb flying robot which was controlled by a Japanese kid called Johny Sokko.Certainly the best Japanese imports on the Indian television and can beat all the current detergent serials hands down as far as good entertainment is concerned. The story went something like this...there is this evil emperor who owns a robot which is hidden on some island. Our hero, Johny Sokko is a member of a super cool peace keeping orgarnisation called the UNICORN whose plane crashes one day on this island. Somehow he manages to get hold of this cool watch which doubles up as a voice command remote control thingy which controls the robot. Now since Sokko is the first dude to speak into that watch, the dumbass robot obeys him only. Now obviously the emperor is pissed off and in every episode he makes a new robot n sends it to destroy our Giant Robot. Now our kid Sokko has to make the Giant Robot kick the evil robot's ass by commanding the robot to move his limbs, punch, kick, use lasers coming out of his eyes, fire missiles from his fingers and other cool shit like that. Our Giant Robot doesn't have an iota of AI (remember Shakey the robot from AI sem 7 :P ??) and has to obey master Sokko and save himself and also the mankind.
The show lacked any sort of 3D animation and most of the fight scenes seemed to be cut-pasted from earlier episodes. The scenes in which the kids flew using their jet packs were shot by making the kids raise their hands in the air, move the camera horizontally and edit off their bodies below their torso. But watever, it was the coolest thing on TV...every evening 5:30-6 we used to take a break from cricket and watch the robot kick some evil ass. I remember being gutted the day they took it off the air...I also remember throwing a tantrum for a giant robot toy and asking my dad where the hell the remote was when he got me a small car which doubled up as a robot....Giant robot...YOU ROCK!!!

Stuff lost in time 2: He-man and the masters of the universe

The most beloved of the super hero community. This was a story about a certain prince Adam and his kingdom's fight against the evil lord Skeletor. Our prince Adam was blessed by the sorceress of castle Grayskull and was given a sword which gave him super powers. The other characters included his dad King Randor, his meek catlike thingy Cringor, Man-at-arms, Orko (whatever he/she/it was) and my favourite-Teela. Teela was probably our first introduction to a hot chick n was probably the hotting thing on Doordarshan...uh she might still be the hottest chick on Doordarshan. Anyway every episode had our quintessentially evil lord creating some problem and our super-hero drawing out his sword to become He Man. My favourite part was the metamorphosis of Adam to He Man and Cringor to Battle Cat. It went something like this...First our hero would take out the sword and raise it high...then suddenly out of nowhere you would see a castle...then the background music would start..."Ta tata tatatatata tatatatata ta ta...HE MAN!!"...then Adam would scream,"I HAVE THE POWERS!!!" and then he would get converted into He Man and all the ass kicking would start. Every episode ended with one of the characters analyzing the episode n teaching the kids about the lessons to be learnt.

Stuff lost in time 3: Fusen gum

Absolutely the tastiest bubble gum of them all...it was so freaking soft. Imagine someone swapping Alex Ferguson's Spearmint with Fusen Gum...the guy would totally lose it. Picture Fergie calling up Rooney for some instructions..."Roon i want you to chase down the defen....umm fuck!! this chewing gum is so soft...fuck the freakin game...here try this gum" (btw Liverpool rocks..."You'll Never Walk Alone" :P)...it was that soft. All kids I knew learnt to blow a bubble with Fusen because it was so soft that it would easily slide over the tongue. The best part was that it came with a tattoo. It was damn simple to use...all you had to do was apply water to your hand and stick the tattoo on it besides having a non hairy hand. I tried really hard but never got the pink and blue tattoo right. Anyway, wat else do you expect from a 1 Re. gum??

Stuff lost in time 4: Pepsi cola
Well not exactly a cocktail of two soft drinks. This was a cheap orange juice which was frozen and packaged in slim plastic bags. All you had to do was make a small hole in the bag and suck on it. It was very yummy and also the root cause of intestinal diseases in kids. My adventures with pepsi cola ended the day my mom was convinced that my jaundice and other tummy problems not worth mentioning had originated from this small seemingly harmless drink.

Stuff lost in time 5: Peppy
If you can't eat just one pack of Ruffles then probably you wouldn't stop eating Peppy. This was a tomato flavoured wheel like stuff which you could really savour. I mean you could try eating the outer ring and show off a star of the remaining sticks, or you could put one in your mouth n roll it on your tongue...never had so much fun eating chips (gee...i love my food, don't I??)

Stuff lost in time 6: The VCR
Acronym for Video Cassette Recorder. It can now be found in some pre-historic display section in museums. Owning a VCR made you the coolest kid around simply because then it was assumed by other kids that you had an awesome collection of Tom & Jerry and Droopy. It was owning an X Box 360. The most annoying part of this device was its stupid head which required constant cleaning else your video would have some annoying distortions. I still have a couple of Tom and Jerry tapes. If any noble soul can lend me a VCR please mail me

Well I could go on and on about more stuff from the past but I guess my purpose here is served.I'll let Orko give the finishing touches.
"Well kids, today we saw how Abhi gets high after a quart of Old Monk.Neway, what he wanted to do was to remind you of the days when having fun was not about clubbing or owning an I-Pod or spending hours chatting on cell phones or the internet.
