Yoga is the process by which the embodied spirit is made to become one with the universal spirit. i.e., the embodied spirit (jeevathma), a part of the universal spirit (paramathma) made to become one by certain physical and mental exercises.
Yoga is the science, which raises the capacity of the human mind to respond to higher vibrations and to perceive, catch and assimilate the infinite conscious movements going on around us in the Universe.
In fact, it makes one a transmitting and receiving station of "Radio" activity with the mind as the aerial. The human soul is brought into conscious communion with God. The science that teaches the way of acquiring this occult knowledge is called 'Yoga sastra'.
Yoga is restraining the mind from taking various forms. Yoga helps us to cleanse out mind and to get back to its natural pure state. Many different varieties of yoga come to be practiced for different purposes.
They are-1. Bhakti yoga (Yoga of devotion)
2. Karma yoga (Yoga of duty or action)
3. Gnana yoga (Yoga of knowledge)
4. Hatha yoga (Yoga of bodily performances)
The final goal or general purpose of all the above varieties of yoga was thesame. This goal was liberation from the cycle of rebirths, called mukti orkaivalya. The purposes of the four varieties of yoga in daily life are notthe same.
1. Bhakthi yogaIt seeks to propitiate the object of worship i.e, God. As a result of thisworship, the practitioner of Bhakthi yoga hopes to remove the hurdles on thepath to the kingdom of God. This is, in a way, the goal of all religions.

2. Karma yogaThe main principles of karma yoga Never giving up and never failingin one's duty an Looking equally upon oppositessuch as success and failure, pleasure and pain, heat and cold etc… withoutbeing affected or swayed away by them.

3. Gnana yoga or Raja yogaEvolved by Patanjali involves techniques for purifying the mind by removingimpurities through the eight fold practice. These include,1. Yama or abstinence or discipline (Iyamam or manathuimai or theethagatral)2. Niyama or observances (Niyamam or cheyal thuimai or nantatral)3. Asana or postures (Irukkai nilai)4. Pranayama (Sara payirchi or moochu payirchi or vayu tharanai)5. Prathiakara or sense-withdrawal (Pulanadakkam or thogainilai)6. Dharana or concentration (Porainilai)7. Dhyana or contemplation (Manathai orumuga paduthuthal)8. Samadhi or Ecstasy or super conscious state (Paramporuludan kalathal)
The above eight- fold path leads to self-realization (Atmadharshana)
Hatha yogaThis has become very popular in recent times. It is described as the yoga ofunity of ha and tha. This means the unity of the sun and the moon in thebody or the unity of the vital airs. (Prana and apana)
ASHTANGA യോഗി yama niyamamae yennila aathanamNayamurum pranayamam prathiyakaramSayamigu tharanai dhyanam samadhiAyamuru attangam aavathumamae.
The eight stages of yoga are,1. Yama :Yama are the purity of mind. Yama are the moral codes or universalcommandments crossing across barriers like caste, religion, race and sex. These moral codes are non-violence, truthfulness, non-stealing, continenceand non - receiving.

2. Niyama :Niyama are the purity of action. They are personal, internal and externalpurification, contentment, dedication, study of self and selflessness.3. Asanas :Asanas are postures for contemplation.Asana means physical posture of the body that assists in regulatingdiscipline in the respiratory system. Thirumular defines asanas only inoutline. Asana is the preliminary step for the practice of yoga.Asanas are generally practiced to strengthen the psychophysical nervecenters to keep the body free from all impurities and diseases and to secureconcentration of mind. They improve flexibility of muscles and suppleness of joints. People who arenot sufficiently well informed about various aspects of yoga believe thatyoga practice mainly comprises practice of the asanas. There are more thansix hundred different asanas. They constitute the minimum set of asanas thatcan help lead to a healthier life.In general, asanas are physical exercises but they differ from normalday-to-day activities. Physical exercises help to strengthen our outer bodybut asanas help to strengthen our vital organs. It increases the circulationof blood to the whole body. It helps to be very active, improve the memorypower and intelligence. Yogasanas should be learned from a well- experiencedteacher; otherwise it will affect the body. It should not be done in fullstomach. Bowel should be cleaned while doing asanas. The place where theyoga has been undertaken should be well ventilated. It is very advisable toperform yoga on the leather of deer or tiger. Bathing is not recommendedimmediately after asanas. Dress should be loose to allow free movement ofthe limbs. Within a few days as the body becomes more flexible, we willnaturally be able to do all the bending of the limbs necessary to performthe asanas properly. It is observed that many people who practice yogasanaare free from gray hair, wrinkled skin, ageing and diseases. In yoga books, the padmasana is suggested to those who are in family life and siddhasana isadvisable to those who are in spiritual life. The asanas are of two types. Those which are performed for the sake ofDhyana (meditation) such as padmasana, siddhasana, sukhasana fall in thefirst category. God has endowed man with intelligence tolive long, to attain perfection in life (kaya siddhi). Siddhars say that anintelligent control over our breathing will prolong life by increasing ourstamina. The practice of right way of breathing in siddhar's science oflongevity is known as practice of "Vasi". Vasi in Tamil means "breathing"(Vayu tharanai). If we repeat the word 'Vasi' several times it will resoundas 'Siva'.
Regulation of breathing: The siddha system says the human body both thephysical and the subtle is made up of 72,000 veins and nerves and sevenvital nerve centers (chakras) along the route of the spinal cord, the threeimportant regions being sun, moon, and fire, the ten vital airs (prana) andten vital nerves (nadis). Out of the ten vital nerves (nadis) the firstthree namely Idakalai, Pingalai, and Suzhumunai play an important role inthe technique and prolongation of life.
The normal life span of a man should be properly employed, would be 120years. A man's normal act of breathing as prescribed by siddha science is atthe rate of 360 times per nazhigai (one hour = two and a half nazhigai) andthis comes to 21,600 breaths in a day. Every act of breathing takes place ata length of space of 12 inches in the nostril and during its operation, theenergy utilized by the body is up to an extent of eight inches only and theremaining four inches is being wasted. It is clear therefore that out of21,600 total breaths of a human body in a day, the body is utilizing only14,400 breaths and the balances of 7,200 breaths go as waste.
1 hour = 2 ½ nazhigai
24 hours = 60 nazhigai
1 nazhigai = 360 breaths
2 ½ nazhigai = 900 breaths
24 hours (per day) = 21,600 breaths.
Respiration should be rhythmical. It is obtained according to Thirumoolar byharmonizing the three movements. Inhalation (pooragam) through left nostril16 mathirais (units), retention (kumbagam) of the inhaled air to the extentof 64 mathirais and exhalation (resagam) through right nostril 32 mathirais.
However, in relation to the weekday, starting from the day- break (sun rise)in the morning at 4 a.m., the breath passes either through the right nostrilor through the left. On Sunday, Tuesday and Saturday, breath passes throughthe right nostril (Sooryakalai or Pingalai). On Monday, Wednesday andFriday, it passes through the left nostril (Chandrakalai). Breathing occursthrough the left nostril on the waxing period Thursday and through the rightnostril on the waning period Thursday. If there is any change in the abovesaid regulation of breathing, diseases will occur. If the breath does notpass through the intended passage, at 4'0 clock in the morning then itshould be changed. If one lies down on the side of the nostril by which thebreath should not pass, then the breath will change its course to passthrough the other nostril, immediately. It is also good to block the nostrilby pressing it with the finger to change the course of the breath. Fromthese, it is clear that the passages of breath are changeable within minutesaccording to our convenience.
Method of practice of Pranayama:
1) Sitting in a comfortable, steady and relaxedposition.
2) Place the right thumb on the superficial surfaceof the right nose and press it
3) Breath out to the left nostril slowly andcompletely.
4) Noiselessly breath in through the same nostriland
5) Close it with ring and middle fingers of theright and while
6) Opening the right nostril to breath out.
7) Breath out noiselessly, slowly and completelywith the right nostril
8) Breath in again with the right nostril in thesame way.
The above said process is considered as one pranayama. Then the process isgradually increased up to 15 times or according to one's own will.
Advantages:
1) Pranayama yields benefits for all functions likerespiration, blood circulation, digestion, excretion, secretion and forimproving muscle tone, removing congestion of blood and release of tension
2) It helps considerably to calm down an irritatedand excited mind and make it steady.
3) Meditation can be done easily after a few roundsof Pranayama.
4) It is also held to awake the serpent power andcreate blissful state of consciousness.
Pratyakara: Retrieving the mind from objects of enjoyment. The practice ofboth posture and breathing exercise leads to a progressive desensitizationthat shuts out external stimuli. When consciousness is effectively sealedoff from the environment, this is the state of sensory inhibition.Dharana: (concentration)Concentration is the holding of the mind in a motionless state. Patanjali'sterm for concentration is Dharana, which stems from the verbal root 'dhri'means' to hold', what is being held is one's attention which is fixed on aninternalized object. Dharana is an important step from the medical point ofview since the Yogi can see how the prana (energy) is transmitted in thebody and how it encounters different chakras (plexus of nerves) etc..Dhyanam (meditation)The act of thinking deeply about somethingMeditation is a method by which a person concentrates more and more uponless and less. The aim is to empty the mind while paradoxically remainalert. Meditation is a state of concentration of mind on one single objectso that the same experience arises continuously in the mind again and againwithout there being any other experience that may intervene. From deepmeditation, one can attain Samadhi.
One can practice meditation to attain the state of Samadhi in several ways. Some of the common ways are reciting words (mantra), by chanting Aum, byusing a material symbol like a phallus (Sivalinga) or an idol or picture orthe flame of a lamp. The most important aspect in each of this method is tostop the process of desire. Unless one can able to stop the desire, one'smind cannot become steady.Scientific researches on the state of meditation have shown clearly thatphysiologically many advantages are gained by the practice of meditationsuch as slowing of the heart, breath and mind. This helps in prevention andcure of a wide range of stress disorders such as diabetes, hypertension, arthritis, psoriasis, sleeplessness, indigestion, acidity, gastritis etc. Thus meditation has proved to be an important technique of modern form ofYoga especially suitable for the solution of problems peculiar to moderntimes. When meditation is combined with other techniques of yoga, its effectis greatly enhanced for treatment of a wide range of health problems ordisorders.Samadhi: (ecstasy) Samathi is the state of super consciousness. It is said to lead ultimatelyto self- knowledge (Atmagnanam), which is the culmination of Yoga accordingto sage Patanjali and also according to the ancient authorities of hathayoga. Samadhi is union with the Lord. The state of Samadhi is beyonddescription. It is beyond the reach of mind and speech. One has to feel thishim self. Just as salt becomes identical with water through union, so theidentity of mind and self is named "Ecstasy". When the mind and the lifeforce merge and dissolve, the balance is named as Ecstasy.Basic fitness in daily life is a common need of every one. Yoga can fulfillthis need irrespective of the type of work one does, one's role in life orthe type of food one eats. However, this benefit may not be possible if onedo not practice the correct technique of yoga or practice it irregularly.Yoga can help every one play his or her roles more efficiently, moresmoothly and more comfortably. Two main advantages of Yoga are prevention ofdisorders and ailments and maintenance of health and fitness in daily life.Other advantages include flexible muscles, supple joints, relaxed andtension free mind and efficiently working vital organs such as the heart, lungs, endocrine glands, liver, pancreas and brain.Yoga practitioner should fill only half of the stomach with solid food, aquarter with water and the remaining one fourth should be left empty. Thisis a golden rule that one needs to observe for every meal especially if onepractices yoga regularly. Conclusion: The relation between the fire kindled by the ascent of kundalinithrough the plexuses and the inner heat need some emphasis here. Itsawakening and its journey through the centers are brought about by atechnique whose essential task is that of arresting respiration. The adoptfurther endeavors to keep the kundalini in suzhumunai and make it rises tothe top of the head, that being is final goal where it is represented in theform of a thousand petalled lotus. The abundant salival secretion producedin this process of obstructing the cavum by turning the tongue back andinserting the tip of it into the throat is expounded as celestial ambrosia(amirtha, Gnana muppu, Yoga muppu) which is capable of rejuvenating theentire system through Astanga Yoga.
For more details visit http://ayurvedamritham.blogspot.com

Yoga
The word 'Yoga' comes from a Sanskrit root 'Yuj' which means 'to join'. The science that teaches the way of acquiring this occult knowledge is called 'Yoga sastra'.Yoga is restraining the mind from taking various forms. Yoga helps us to cleanse out mind and to get back to its natural pure state. Many different varieties of yoga come to be practiced for different purposes. They are-1. Bhakti yoga (Yoga of devotion)2. Karma yoga (Yoga of duty or action)3. Gnana yoga (Yoga of knowledge)4. Hatha yoga (Yoga of bodily performances)The final goal or general purpose of all the above varieties of yoga was thesame. This goal was liberation from the cycle of rebirths, called mukti orkaivalya. The purposes of the four varieties of yoga in daily life are notthe same.1.

Scientist - Ayurveda Sanat Products Ltd.

Experience:2 - 5 Years
Location:Delhi/NCR
Compensation:Rupees 2,50,000 - 3,50,000
Education:UG - MBBS - Medicine;Other Graduate - Any Specialization
PG - M.S/M.D - Other
Industry Type:Pharma/ Biotech/Clinical Research
Functional Area:Healthcare, Medical, R&D
Posted Date:10 Jun
Job Description
* Literature Research* Compilation of Clinical data & Regulations* Preparation of Dossier* IPR & documentation* Designing and monitoring of protocols & clinical trials* Category based identification of new products* Knowledge of patent* Herbal Blends
Desired Candidate Profile
Ideal candidate shall be BAMS doctor with 2-5 yrs of experience in the similar field.
