This list differs slightly from prior compilations mainly because of the very specific criteria used. For example, New Orleans, Washington D.C., and Detroit have historically traded places over the years as the murder capital of America. But, it looks as if Washington D.C. wasn’t even considered here, and neither were places like Gary, Indiana, Atlanta, GA, Compton, CA, Newark, NJ, St. Louis, MO, or Camden, NJ.

The study used a technical evaluation of U.S. Metropolitan Statistical Areas, which apparently doesn’t always fit with what we think of as cities, but sometimes merely counties or zip codes etc. If you look at per capita numbers by city though, some of these others will surely be near the top of the list. This is obviously because their population is comprised mostly of Blacks. Regardless of the study methods used, one comprehensive fact remains - every one of these cities has a significant non-White population.

By clicking on the “Color of Crime” graphic to the right, you will be able to examine the correlation between race and violent crime. Furthermore, the report points out that the top 10 cities on this list are “transit points for Mexican drug cartels.” I find this comment pretty hard to believe though, because I’ve constantly been told by the media that Hispanics only come here to “do the jobs Americans won’t do.” I guess that includes murder as well.

Detroit is the worst offender on our list of America’s most dangerous cities, thanks to a staggering rate of 1,220 violent crimes committed per 100,000 people.

“Detroit has, historically, been one of the more violent cities in the U.S.,” says Megan Wolfram, an analyst at iJet Intelligent Risk Systems.”

“Detroit was followed closely on the list by the greater Memphis, Tenn., and Miami, Fla., metropolitan areas. Those three were the only large cities in America with more than 950 violent crimes committed per 100,000 people.

Behind the Numbers

To determine our list, we used violent crime statistics from the FBI’s latest uniform crime report, issued in 2008. The violent crime category is composed of four offenses: murder and non-negligent manslaughter, forcible rape, robbery and aggravated assault.”

the cities atop our list illustrate a disturbing trend: All 10 of the most dangerous cities were among those identified by the Department of Justice as transit points for Mexican drug cartels.

Run by crime lords like Joaquin Guzman Lorea, these gangs–and their violent turf wars–are spreading into the American Southwest and beyond. Places like Stockton, Calif., nearly 500 miles from Tijuana, have seen an uptick in related violent crime.

“Stockton is a major transit point along the I-5 corridor on the way to Seattle and Vancouver,” says Wolfram. “A lot of it is similar to crime happening in the Southwest. For the most part, it’s drug gang on drug gang.”

Dancing with the Stars was apparently able to secure the clearance for a Michael Jackson tribute that So You Think You Can Dance couldn’t get. Dancing with the Stars will air a ballroom dance tribute to Jackson — who passed away in June at the age of 50 — during Tuesday night’s live ninth-season results show, Access Hollywood reported Wednesday.

The tribute will include all of the show’s professional dancers and feature Cheryl Burke as one of the choreographers.

“That’s going to be wonderful,” said Access Hollywood guest correspondent La Toya Jackson. “I’m so excited. I can’t wait to see that. I’m really looking forward to that. That’s gonna be fabulous.”

In addition, La Toya said her mom Katherine — who currently has legal custody of Michael’s three children — will be “very excited” and “very happy” to see the tribute.

“She’d love to see it, love to see it,” explained La Toya, adding her mom is a Dancing with the Stars fan. “She watches it all the time. She loves it.”

The day after Michael passed away in June, So You Think You Can Dance co-creator Nigel Lythgoe used Twitter to reach out to Paula Abdul and several So You Think You Can Dance choreographers in an effort to help organize a Jackson tribute in one of the show’s fifth-season summer episodes.

However he subsequently has to cancel the tribute due to the show’s inability to secure clearance for his music.

“Unfortunately we had some bad news yesterday. We thought that we would do a Michael Jackson tribute and put all of Michael’s music together,” said Lythgoe during a fifth-season results show broadcast.

“We put the music through to Sony and said, ‘Sony, can we clear this music?’ Yesterday, we got a note back — whether it’s Sony or the [Jackson] family estate, I don’t know — but they would not clear the music for us.”

Besides being docile and easily handled, the Pink-toed Tarantula is hardy and entertaining if kept properly. They are active during the day and will build extensive web tubes in their enclosure. Though they are much more docile than their close cousin the Antilles Pink Toe Tarantula they will jump, so care should be taken when handling them. i think that one good thing about myself is that im spontaneous. i absolutely hate when people have to think about what they want to do or whats the best idea if its really not that big of a deal. it all processes in my head faster so i know whether i want to do a certain thing or not, thinking about all the consequences. another good thing about me is that im confident.

I used to be so scared to talk to people that i wouldnt be able to say “im not interested” to a telemarketer. i dont know why, but thats changed drastically. i often go around school parading my new crazy outfit or pushing through stupid people who dont move in the hallways (as opposed to waiting for them to move). the third thing that i like about myself is my musical ability. i wont brag, im not that good at any particular instrument, but when people see me playing mandolin fairly well (look it up if you dont know what it is), theyre impressed. its not just to impress people, though, i like music and enjoy listening to it to see which instruments are playing and what exactly theyre doing. i have a wide general knowledge of most instruments and im open to a lot of kinds of music. its also very useful for extra-credit projects or when you have a choice of how you present.

Sure, she came into the show in the second season and isn’t an “original” character, but she’s become what I consider the most genuine character.

Then they start the show with “Wade in the Water?” I’m automatically an emotional wreck for two hours. Instead of a regular episodic format, the premiere episodes shifted to a timeline (Day One, Seven, Ten, Thirteen, and so on). I guess they got the memo that FlashForward was on before them.

Day one dealt with everyone coping with a return to everyday life. The two episodes, happily merged as one, set up the five stages of grief (denial, anger, bargaining, depression, and acceptance) and chucks them at the cast. Callie starts the ball rolling: she has to identify George, alert Izzie, then figure out what happens to his organs with Izzie and confront the Chief.

Our main patient of the week is a girl who lost her arms to a speedboat propeller, that were sewn back (I assume by Callie, since she refers to it later). The main reason she’s here is to show that Lexie needed to be a better friend and doctor. Clara (who looks like a young Nicole Kidman) then goes crazy and her arms start bleeding again.

The secondary patient, Andy, suffers from something that’s not curable by muscle relaxers. Unfortunately, the Chief is under much stress and won’t let Arizona do her job correctly. I felt horrible for the mother, and it continued into the second episode.

It ended, and I literally said the words, “Why the hell did I just watch that?” Then I realized I’m being paid to watch TV for a living, and I quit bitching.

The comic character was there to promote his revival of The Pee Wee Herman Show stage play, but the whole interview had very few laughs and felt more like an introspective look at the man’s childhood and aspirations to go into show business. The only problem is he’s a fictional character and the stories didn’t have much of a punchline, so it’s hard to know if they were about Pee Wee Herman or the man playing Pee Wee Herman. Should I be laughing? Should I be interested? Should I care?

Nothing like that happened. The thing didn’t even feel like the setup to a joke. It just felt like a joke and not the good kind. The only funny part was the metal set piece that fell to the floor and broke the dullness of the salad bar bit. Either one of Jay’s crew has the butterfingers or God is a better interview prepper than Jay’s staff.
