This year's theme is Designing for the Future We Want. Design has a huge influence on people’s lives. What we design today can have a lasting impact on the world. Let’s use this year’s theme, “Design for the Future We Want”, to focus our work to improve the world through better experiences and create a better future together.

This year’s theme was inspired by the Sustainable Development Goals, set by the United Nations (UN). These 17 goals on the 2030 agenda provide a roadmap to a more peaceful and prosperous future for all.

Abby Wilkymacky
Founder of Mindflower Studio

Abby Wilkymacky is a facilitator, designer, and visual practitioner. Mindflower Studio is a creative consultancy that helps socially-driven organizations define and solve problems through thoughtfully designed and facilitated experiences. Some clients include: Valley of the Sun United Way, International Refugee Committee, CO+HOOTS Foundation, 12 News, and more.

Abby is known for her innovative facilitation and human-centered research techniques that drive creative participation in surprising, fun ways. Abby holds a BS in Industrial Design and Spanish from The Ohio State University (Go Buckeyes!). As an adjunct professor at Arizona State University, she taught undergraduate and graduate level Industrial Design and Qualitative Research courses.

Outside of her work you may find Abby romping around in the desert, playing board games, reading with a cat in her lap, or drawing on her tablet.

Lindsay Kinkade

Senior Director of Creative at Arizona State University

The Enterprise Marketing Hub at ASU leads university branding and advertising efforts in addition to developing alumni engagement across digital and other scaled media. Lindsay leads design, photography and the alumni magazine as one aligned creative team. Recent projects include app development and the data-driven revamp of ASU Thrive, the 440,000+ circulation magazine sent to all alumni to align with enterprise campaigns across digital and print media.

Before joining the Marketing Hub, Lindsay taught graduate courses in The Design School at ASU, consulted for The Epic Decade and previously designed the front page at The Boston Globe. In Phoenix, she founded Design RePublic and led the production of public art projects enlivening the street and popping-up in an Airstream, The Mobile Studio. She holds an undergraduate degree in journalism from UNC Chapel Hill and an MFA in graphic design from RISD.

An internet commerce and design veteran, Jon founded and sold two successful dot-coms in the 1990s before moving back to the private sector to help brands such as Scholastic, Prudential, GoDaddy.com, and Guitar Center realize their digital identities.

Before joining Publicis.Sapient, Jon was the Head of User Experience and Commerce for Amazon.com's Kindle division. Jon is a regular speaker at conferences, has been published in numerous magazines and has written two books on technology. He holds two patents for internet shopping which are in wide use today across the World Wide Web.

Director of Ideation & Design (IDX) for Neudesic

Neudesic is a business innovation consultancy headquartered in Irvine, CA, with offices throughout the US and India. After Matthew’s 4-year stint in the Navy, he completed his Bachelor of Electronic Imaging and Digital Photography degree from the University of Massachusetts. He worked for Avante Development as their Principal UX Lead. In this role, he provided leadership in Information Architecture, and Visual Design, as well as front-end UI development, for over 50 local Arizona and regional companies.

In 2010, he joined Neudesic, where he grew the Ideation & Design Group in Phoenix from $0-$4M of UX services with +30% growth year over year. Phoenix IDX resources are currently cresting well above double digits, which makes it the biggest and fastest growing group in Neudesic history.

As designers, content creators and user experience architects, we know the key to usability is empathizing with users. But no matter how how much we try to understand them, our perspectives will still always be influenced by our own experiences, both good and bad. That’s why we need to break out of our typical processes and learn to think differently. The 2012 Arizona World Usability Day (WUD) event will be held on Thursday, November 8, 6-9 p.m. in Scottsdale. This year’s WUD topic is Usability of Financial Systems.

For the second year, our even has been selected as a WUD Partner Event. This distinction is only awarded to 5 events internationally, with no more than 2 events per country.

Our keynote speaker will be Rick Tilghman, Senior Director of Global Design at Paypal. Rick is a visionary UX leader, designer, and evangelist with over 15 years delivering revolutionary digital products across dozens of clients and industries. He leads PayPal's IXD practice and plays a central role in the delivery of the unified PayPal experience and the transformation of PayPal's design practice.

Our feature speaker is Kath Straub, Principal and Founder of of Usability.org. With over a decade of experience in the field, Kath has helped numerous fortune 500 companies, government agencies and not for profit organizations establish and nurture usability practices. She is known for her ability to draw from established and emerging multi-disciplinary behavior research to shape new UX methods and to drive innovative, intuitive and efficient designs. This is a full time position. Any/all potential candidates will be required to work on-site at the Scottsdale location. We are unable to accept off-site contractors for this role.
