Sometimes you forget why a guy was so funny. Joe Piscopo is one of those Saturday Night Live guys that fell off the map. He was a really funny guy however. This skit really hits home with me as it almost sounds like my real name. I’ve had my share of people making fun of my name but I’ve also handled it a bit better than this. Enjoy.

Kobe Bryant Does the One Inch Punch!

It doesn’t look like much but it seems as though Kobe‘s training in Jeet Kune Do has paid off. It’s a one inch punch a la Bruce Lee. Thing is, Kobe’s opponent was able to play a whole basketball game after this “punch.” I doubt that any one punched by Bruce Lee in the gonads would be walking around, much less playing pro basketball for 3 to 4 quarters!

Kobe is here being interviewed about his martial arts training and his teacher is revealed. His Jeet Kune Do teacher seems to have a pretty low key setup similar to Bruce. All of Lee’s celebrity students trained one on one in his house at one time or another.

Amazing Race 15 Finale Results

I’m a big BIG fan of the Amazing Race. Even though Meghan and Cheyne were from my home town of San Diego, I sometimes could NOT stand them. However, you have to respect their game. They were UNSTOPPABLE. They definitely deserved to win over the other two loser teams: The Gay Bros(whatever… HAD to be fake) and the Miss America/Mr. White Dude married to Miss America(they were constantly arguing at first. They kind of grew on me but I liked the Globetrotters and the Father/Son team better.) Oh well, maybe next time, *I’ll* go on the show. You want to be my team mate? If we wind up in Amsterdam, I could show you the sites as it were… Hmm, probably won’t win that way but we’ll be sure to have a goooood time!

President Reagan said it right. It took some huge “balons” to say something like that to the USSR in the late 1980′s but who cared? We all knew we were going to die in a big nuclear ball of flame so daring the Russians to make peace, or else, wasn’t such a big gamble. I remember telling one of my German friends that we would see the Berlin Wall come down.

He looked at me as a man that had been through the worst of the Nazi era and the Soviet eras would: What did I know? I was just a dumb MTV kid. It was an arrogant thing on my part to say such a thing. People had been dying trying to cross that thing for decades and there just wasn’t any way in hell that the Soviets would let go of such a prize as East Germany and Berlin. Typhoon Ketsana/Ondoy Videos from the Philippines

I’ve been praising the Filipino Rock Music scene here lately and have really gotten into its beautiful sounds. When I heard and saw the destruction from Ketsana/Ondoy, I was greatly saddened. Here’s a few videos from just normal folks that hit it home how lucky some of us are to live where we live.

This video overlooks a large neighborhood next to an over-flooded river that was pretty much wiped out. People are stranded on top of their shacks waiting for help that probably isn’t coming. Remember that the Philippines is a poor country and niceties like emergency help are luxuries:

Here people are just doing their best to try to get through the day. It’s amazing to think that they are just going to tough it out no matter what. In the end, I guess that’s just what you have to do during a tragedy as there’s no time to bitch about anything. Just go on with the business of trying to live on no matter what.

The Eraserheads: The Beatles of Filipino Music

Every genre of music has them. A great band that sets the standard for all other bands to follow. I’ve been delving into the great Filipino Music scene for the last few posts and I’ve exposed you to Bamboo, Wolfgang and Rivermaya so far. None of these bands would enjoy the kind of success they have without the existence of The Eraserheads. They are regarded as the “Beatles” of Filipino Rock music. Like the Beatles, there have been many bands before the Eraserheads but it was this group that laid the groundwork to getting Filipino Rock into the World’s consciousness. From the Eraserheads own musicians sprang other great rock bands like The Dawn and Cambio. So, take a gander and a listen to the Fab 4 of the PI!

Rivermaya: Filipino Music with a New Wave Twist

Lately, I’ve been lurking about the weird world of Filipino music. Filipino Rock music to be more precise. A search on YouTube will bring up a bunch of interconnected bands. I’ve already mentioned WolfGang , a band with a lot of Metallica flavours in its music. My favorite Filipino band so far is Bamboo, a bunch of musical heavy’s that can play practically any style of music they set their minds to. By mentioning Bamboo, I should naturally lead into one of the more popular acts out there: Rivermaya. Bamboo Manalac used to sing for these guys before he decided to front his aforementioned band Bamboo. Rivermaya has a very New Wave feel to it. Their sound is a bit more mellow than Bamboo but they can rock out when they want to. Their main strength is the love song and they have a ton of them. Check them out when you need to earn back the heart of your ladyfriend…

Wolfgang: Harder Filipino Rock Music

I love the stuff from the Bamboo guys but sometimes you’ve got to really rock the house out. Wolfgang supplies some real Metallica inspired metal filipino music. They really are a great band and if you get the chance to hear them, don’t pass it up.

Bamboo: Filipino Music that Truly Rocks

By some weird happenstance, I was searching for examples of Filipino music and I found a bunch of it that I didn’t know existed. One band in particular is Bamboo. I was really expecting a bunch of wannabe R&B “Down on my knees beggin you please” crap and there is that over there but there are also bands like this. There are so many good bands over there that everyone should hear. I will post some other great rock bands from the Philippines that I find. This has made me wonder what other countries are hiding? Is there a Malaysian rap band that I’m unaware of? I’m going to find out.

Comic Con 2009: Cute Remote Controlled Toy Crap to Stick in Your Basement

I’m still jonesing for Comic Con and it’s been over a week since opening day here in San Diego… WAH!!! Well, its all over but I’ve still got my memories.
