Video: Jonas Brothers on the Today Show

Today (June 19), the Jonas Brothers were on the Today Show. They performed “Paranoid”, “Burnin’ Up” and “Love Bug” as part of their summer concert series.

In the clip above, Kevin, Joe and Nick Jonas tell the Today Show hosts about their new album “Lines, Vines and Trying Times”, as well as perform their hit song “Paranoid”.

The Jonas Brothers are kicking off their 2009 World Tour in support of their fourth album! Fans were waiting at the Rockefeller Plaza since 3 in the morning just to watch these guys perform. They were asked if this ever gets old for them.

Joe said, “It never gets old. It’s an amazing feeling to have such amazing fans and support from all ages.”

Angelina Jolie talks with Ann Curry

Angelina Jolie has been very busy making the world aware of World Refugee Day (which is tomorrow, June 20th). This morning the Today show aired an interview that Ann Curry did with Angelina Jolie yesterday.

It was yet another wonderful interview bringing important facts about refugee to light. They even spoke of one of Angelina’s first UNHCR missions to Pakistan in 2001. She talked about how, as a mother, she wants to make sure she has enough snacks for her kids on long drives so that they won’t be hungry and yet she had met with mothers who sometimes have absolutely no food at all to offer to their children for days at a time and how that must be one of the most difficult things in the world for a parent to go through.

I also liked Angelina’s response when Ann said that sometimes Americans don’t feel like they care about refugees because American lives are being lost in those same areas in wars, so what makes Angie care so much. Her reply was that she cares and others should too because those refugees are fighting (or fleeing) the same extremists that the U.S. is fighting - in other words the troops and the refugees are allies (and I’d like to add with the main difference being that the refugees aren’t able to defend themselves as much).

Angelina added that the point is not to simply feel pity for refugees but to help them to get to a point where they can rely on themselves because they are such strong, smart people. They are the future there.

Much like in the Anderson Cooper interview last night, Angelina said that it is her intention to take her children to these camps to help them to understand how fortunate they are and how important compassion and aid is. Ann brought up the fact that Angelina has already taken Maddox to some of the camps - what an experience. Angie said that she wants her kids to be raised with a more accurate view of the world than she was - and indeed, most of us were - so that they can grow up to be better people than they would be if they were sheltered. She even said if she had understood the problems of the world better at a younger age, she probably would have gotten through her own youth better and would have been less self-destructive.

Every time I hear Angelina Jolie speak about refugees I feel so inspired. Don’t you?

So You Think You Can Dance 5: Max & Ashley Go Home

In last night’s results show for So You Think You Can Dance, the three pairs with the fewest audience votes were Kayla & Max, Ashley & Kupono and Caitlin & Jason. All six dancers had to perform solos in order to try to convince the judges that they should stay.

After watching the solo performances, I expected Ashley & Kupono to be eliminated, but the judges chose Ashley & Max instead. It’s so hard for ballroom dancers to impress the judges with their solos! I think it’s ashame that Max had to leave. He’s very good.

So now we are down to the Top 16 dancers. Here they are:

Rewatching LOST: 1.15 “Homecoming”

Claire returns to the survivors seemingly having escaped from her captivity, but Ethan returns as well, with a warning: give Claire back, or he’ll kill one of the Oceanic survivors per day until they do.

Charlie awakens in the night to commotion at the caves when Locke and Boone return with an unconscious Claire, who they just found alone in the jungle (in “Special”). Jack gets her to come around, but she panics when she sees the crowd of people standing around watching things, because she doesn’t remember any of them — not even Charlie. Or Ethan. After she calms down, Jack and the others try to explain the situation to her. But she doesn’t remember anything that happened after she got onboard Oceanic 815. Later, Charlie tries to reacclimate her to her life before the abduction; he returns her diary to her as well. When he reveals that Ethan abducted him as well, she wants to know why Charlie was ultimately left behind while she was taken away from everyone for two weeks. Charlie tables the issue, not feeling it to be the right time. The other survivors talk privately in small groups about Claire’s return, what it means, and whether or not Ethan could be nearby. Sayid in particular is very dubious about Claire’s seemingly selective amnesia. The next morning, Charlie briefly visits the beach but then heads back for the caves, alongside Jin. But Jin is knocked out by a rock that flies out of the jungle, and Charlie is suddenly confronted by Ethan. Ethan carries a sling (which he flung the rock at Jin with) and has four clawed scratches on his cheek. He grabs Charlie by the throat and orders Charlie to bring Claire back to him, or Ethan will kill one of the survivors. Every day at sundown, Ethan says he’ll kill another one until Claire is returned to him, but he’ll save Charlie for last. With that, he drops Charlie and disappears into the jungle. At the beach, Charlie reports Ethan’s threat to Jack and Locke, and says they have to rally the survivors, and go hunt Ethan down and kill him. Jack agrees with Charlie, but Locke suggests a more cautious approach. Sun and Jin share a mutual frustration at not knowing exactly what’s going on with Claire, and after Jin is attacked by Ethan, his resentment at his inability to communicate with the group grows deeper. As Locke and Jack work to fortify defenses around the survivors’ two camps, Claire asks Charlie if anything is going on, telling him that none of the others will tell her anything. They won’t even talk to her. He lies and tells her nothing is going on. Kate suggests to Jack that they use the four guns in Marshall Mars’ steel briefcase, which Jack still has the key to. But Jack refuses, unwilling to “put guns in untrained hands.” Despite sentry duty all night around both camps, a castaway named Scott Jackson is discovered dead at the beach the next morning, with his neck, both arms, and all the bones in his fingers broken. Locke determines that Ethan got past their defenses by entering the camp from the ocean. The castaways bury Scott and Hurley presides over a funeral ceremony. It’s hours later before Claire finds out something’s wrong. After grilling Shannon, she confronts Charlie, furious that he withheld the truth from her about Ethan and about Scott’s death. He says he wanted to protect her since she’s already been through so much, but she’s too angry to hear him. Jack and Locke confer about the situation, neither wanting to lose another one of their people, but uncertain how to stop Ethan. Locke reminds Jack that they’re still on Ethan’s turf, and Ethan has the advantage. Jack finally decides to take Kate’s advice and use the Marshall’s guns to turn the advantage around. The two of them, along with Sayid, formulate a new plan: they’ll use Claire as bait to lure Ethan out of hiding and capture him. Charlie won’t hear of it, but Claire steps forward and agrees to the mission. Charlie wants to come along, but Locke points out that Charlie’s never even fired a gun before. But Locke is forced to agree that there are four guns and only three men on their team, so Jack reluctantly approaches Sawyer and asks him to join. Sawyer agrees, but Kate overhears and wants to join the team, too. When Jack points out that they’re out of guns, Sawyer retrieves the empty gun he took from the Marshall and shot the polar bear with, which he’s held onto all this time. It’s the same kind of gun as the other four, so the ammo Jack has will work with it. Kate takes the gun and joins the party. While a storm approaches, Charlie watches from afar as the six-person team (including Claire, the bait) makes its plan and leaves the beach. Sayid reminds everyone that they want Ethan alive. A rainstorm gathers and pours rain down onto the jungle as Claire wanders in, seemingly alone. But her five protectors watch from carefully placed hiding positions. Ethan takes the bait, but Jack tackles him, getting in several good retaliatory punches and kicks. The others swoop in and protect Claire, but Jack’s got him on the ropes. When Ethan tries to stand, four guns are trained on him, but before Ethan can say anything for himself, the fifth gun — which Jack dropped when he tackled Ethan — fires repeatedly into Ethan’s chest, killing him. Charlie holds the weapon at point-blank range, having followed the hunting party into the jungle. Later, Charlie tells Jack he did it because Ethan deserved to die, and he wouldn’t let him anywhere near Claire ever again. Claire approaches him not long after and says that she remembers something from her time on the island: peanut butter. Charlie explains that it was imaginary peanut butter, from a moment in their budding friendship. Claire says she wants to trust Charlie, but for now merely leaves it at that.

After DriveShaft broke up, Charlie struck up a relationship with a woman named Lucy Heatherton. What Lucy didn’t know was that Charlie’s feelings weren’t entirely sincere at first; she was from a wealthy family, and he was attempting to use his status as a former “rock star” to get Lucy’s money — all in a bid to fund his heroin addiction. But when Lucy’s Francis father took a liking to Charlie, bonding over a familiar history — he too was once in a failed rock band, but decided it was time to show some responsibility when his daughter was born — he offered Charlie a job selling copiers, and Charlie accepted. But his first day at work, he experienced heavy heroin withdrawal, having had no “fix” over the entire weekend before, and his first in-office demonstration went badly. Despite Lucy and her father’s many kindnesses, Charlie stole an expensive collectible from the Heatherton home, but it was returned to them after an incident at Charlie’s new job. Lucy pieced together the truth, and when Charlie came to the house to apologize, she was furious and hurt, and wanted nothing more to do with him. It was roughly a year after DriveShaft broke up that Liam’s daughter (Charlie’s niece) was born. Charlie also mentioned that over the course of that year, he had had “some problems with royalties,” meaning that for some technical legal reason, he was no longer getting paid residuals for anything DriveShaft recorded.

Where has Claire been since Ethan took her? What happened to her there? Why is Claire back? Did she escape? How? Why does Claire have amnesia? Was her memory really “reset to before the crash” by the trauma she experienced from the abduction, as Jack suggested? Or was it something else? How did Ethan enter the beach camp from the ocean? Did he swim from someplace nearby, or does he have access to a boat?

“Homecoming” is the second Charlie-centric episode of the series. Scott is the third person to perish that was one of the original 48 survivors of Oceanic 815’s midsection. There are now only 45 survivors remaining. And with that, the infamous “Scott and Steve” — a running gag throughout most of Season 1 — are no more. Only Steve remains. Two things about this episode made me, like a lot of fans, cry fowl: 1) Just when it seemed we were about to get some greatly-desired answers about Ethan Rom, they killed him; and 2) Claire’s amnesia? Yawn. Granted, it was an interesting twist to see a character forget everything that happened since the crash, which in Lost time was only a month ago. But how often has genre television played the amnesia card? I remember I was desensitized to it as a “plot twist” because of its over-use, and I’m betting a lot of you were, too. Even Charlie’s gunning down of Ethan wasn’t that much of a shock at the time. The previous 14 episodes proved that Lost was the most deliciously unpredictable show on television. “Homecoming” made that feeling stall. “Homecoming”’s flashbacks did little for me, as well. I realize it was intended to give us context for Charlie’s path of redemption, as he first learns the value of responsibility, but unlike most of the other flashbacks from Season 1, it gave us almost no new information about the character’s past that was worth anything in the long run. It was, frankly, more like the many “treading water” flashbacks that would soon plague Seasons 2 and 3. I remember wishing at the time that the flashbacks had instead revealed what happened to Claire during her captivity. But those answers wouldn’t come for another year, in episode 2.15, “Maternity Leave.” Another major Season 1 confrontation… another ominous rainstorm. I could be wrong, but I’m sticking to my earlier theory that there’s no mystical reason for the island rain at these pivotal moments; it’s just poetic license taken by the writers for dramatic effect.

Nicky Hotel Says Fashion Designing Gives Her Purpose

Nicky Hilton recently revealed that being a fashion designer has helped give her a purpose in life.

Nicky has two clothing lines - Nicky Hilton Beverly Hills and Chick.

Determined to be independent from her family’s wealth, Nicky says that she’s following her dreams. “I’m following my dreams and doing what I love as a designer. I did not want to be one of those kids with a famous last name that doesn’t do anything. That is very unfulfilling to me and I’m very happy.”

“These are clothes my friends and I could wear. This ain’t Prada. I don’t want to be one of those celebrities that slaps their name on a label and collects royalty checks. Everything on that runway reflects me.”

More photos of Hayden Panettiere on “Heroes” set

It’s really great to get glimpses of Hayden Panettiere at work on “Heroes”. We know how much she loves the show and the people in it so I’m sure she’s glad to be hanging out with them again. I can’t wait for Hayden to have shots with Jack Coleman, or Adrian Pasdar who are two of her closest cast members. Of course, some of us still wish for Hayden and Milo Ventimiglia to get back, right?

This season she’ll have new girls to hang with – Madeline Zima and Rachel Melvin, who are cast as Claire Bennet’s roommates at her new college in Washington DC. We already saw that Claire checked out the campus with Gretchen (Madeline Zima)!

Well, here are some more photos of Hayden Panettiere on the Heroes set. I’m not sure about this but it looks like she’s talking to Madeline behind takes. Notice Hayden is wearing a different set of clothes – brown leather over faded jeans, which suit her college-look very well. These photos must be from a different day or shoot.

After the cut, check out more photos of Hayden Panettiere on the “Heroes” set. There are even a couple of images where one extra (a college student) checked out Claire/Hayden! I wonder if that was part of the shoot, or if he can’t help but admire the actress beside him. *laugh*

Alexis Bledel Says Rory Was Too Perfect

In an interview published this week, Alexis Bledel (Rory Gilmore on Gilmore Girls) talks about her upcoming film, Post Grad, and about her experience portraying Rory on Gilmore Girls.

Alexis shares a few tidbits about the relevancy of the film today, but is quickly asked about how she wanted to make Ryden different from Gilmore Girls’ Rory. In comparing the two characters, Alexis says:

“Well, as the years went by on Gilmore Girls, I noticed that Rory was kind of like an idealized product of the show’s imagination because she was really perfect in a lot of ways, which started to annoy me a bit, but you have to keep playing the character. But Ryden -– I think she’s much more relatable in a lot of ways and this character’s story picks up in the same stage of life where Rory left off, graduating from college. So for anyone who likes the show, its kind of -– it’s a continuation in a way, but she’s a completely different girl because she makes a lot of mistakes. She has a very typical college experience. She’s kind of an average girl, and I can relate much more to her.”

I have to agree with Alexis here and I think that Season 6 and 7 of Gilmore Girls suffer from this perfection. It’s not just limited to the character of Rory, though. I think all the characters became too perfectly coiffed, with things that came too easily to them (relationships aside). Many of us bonded with Gilmore Girls because the characters were realistic - they ran out of clothes, they were late to class, they made mistakes. That realism was lost as the series progressed (in my opinion). I always thought that Alexis seemed the most disconnected from this perfect-Rory, so it’s nice to hear Alexis talk about it.

Vanessa Hudgens ‘I Have Never Been So Sore In My Life’

Vanessa Hudgens is gearing up for her role in her new film, Sucker Punch, and she’s having to gear up for her stunts!

“I am extremely excited,” Vanessa reveals. “I had my stunt evaluation the other day and it was basically learning how to throw the correct punches and all these kicks and craziness that I never knew how to do.

By the end of the day Vanessa was was going back and forth with someone — kicking, punching, kicking, punching. “Then he would have to come back at me and I would have to block it. Then the next day I felt so bad. I have never been so sore in my life. I love it but it was ridiculous.”

Vanessa is very excited about the film. “I kept telling everyone, ‘I want to do an action film.’ But they were like, ‘Maybe in a few years.’ So I’m like, ‘Ha, in your face. I am doing one now!’”

Sucker Punch, which isn’t set to release until 2011, follows a young girl who is institutionalized by her wicked stepfather. Retreating to an alternative reality as a coping strategy, she envisions a plan which will help her escape from the facility.

Video: Jonas Brothers on “Larry King Live”

Did you see the Jonas Brothers on “Larry King Live” last night? The show openened up and all you could hear were a bunch of screaming girls. The show was broadcast from the new Dallas Stadium, where the Jo Bros will kick off their 2009 World Tour.

Larry started off the show asking them how they become an act.

Kevin said, “It actually started with Nick. He originally was doing Broadway shows and myself, I was doing commercials and Nick and Joe were both on Broadway at the same time. Nick wrote a song with my dad, for a Christmas CD, it was like a charity CD and someone at a record label heard it and signed Nick…wanted him to start his own project…started his record and thn we wrote a song together called ‘Please Be Mine’ and that song kind of…the record label heard it, wanted to sign all three of us and that’w when the Jonas Brothers began.”

Cool story isn’t it?!

Larry also asked if they had any girlfriends and Joe and Kevin said ‘Yes’ but Joe said his girlfriend wasn’t as famous as Miley. Watching the interview and their faces, it definitely seems Niley is back together. What do you think?

Zac Efron to Star in Teen Wolf Remake?

I really hope this one’s just a rumor but time will tell!

Warner Brothers, who recently bought the rights to the movie, are apparently set on remaking the 1985 classic Teen Wolf, which originally starred Michael J. Fox as a teenager who discovers he’s a werewolf.

Guess who’s being discussed for the lead role? Zac Efron’s name has been tossed around on several other sites now, though there’s no telling what WB has in mind just yet.

It’s still a ways off, but what do you think? Should he do it or is this just another road to being a movie stereotype?

Cody Linley, Brooke Shileds Guest Star on “Hannah Montana”

On Sunday, July 5th, Cody Linley and Brooke Shields guest star in a one-hour long “Hannah Montana” special show called “He Could Be the One”. Cody reprises his role as Jake Ryan and Brooke Shields as Miley’s mom. It will be preceded by a “Hannah Montana” marathon (1:00–8:00 p.m., ET/PT).

A new music video from the Season Three soundtrack for “Hannah Montana” will debut daily, June 29 - July 3 (7:00 p.m., ET/PT) and all five – “Mixed Up,” “Just A Girl,” “Let’s Get Crazy,” “Supergirl” and “Every Part of Me” – will air following the Sunday, July 5 episode.

The “Hannah Montana Season 3 Soundtrack” releases on Walt Disney Records July 7.

In the one-hour special, entitled “He Could Be the One?,” Miley repeatedly tries but fails to gently tell Robby that she’s dating Jake Ryan again. Soon her dad winds up believing she’s trying to hide something from him. Now, to make Robby thankful for Jake, Miley pretends to date her bad boy band mate, Jesse, but gets in over her head, so it’s up to Robby, with help from Miley’s late mother, to help her navigate the predicament.

Prison Break: Tattoo Quiz - English, Fitz, Percy

One of the important plot points in Prison Break Season 1 (and some of Season 2) was Michael’s tattoo! He created 24 designs to incorporate specific elements of his escape plan - and then formed them into one tatoo to cover his upper half.

Included in the tattoos are hidden blueprints and specific references for items and places that Michael must locate and incorporate.

Heroes News and spoilers: New cast, comic-cons and Ando’s business

We have plenty of Heroes-related news today!

First, it’s almost time for the great summer Comic Con at San Diego and of course, Heroes as a panel. Early release of schedules didn’t include Heroes, but now it looks like the show is back, and into SDCC. ODI writes the panel will be on a Saturday and Tim Kring will bring a smaller cast.

Speaking of cast, another actor joins Heroes this fall – Battlestar Galactica’s Rick Worthy. He’ll be playing Matt Parkman’s new partner as an experienced L.A. cop. My feeling is that Worthy’s character won’t have powers, but he’ll find out about Matt.

And in still another spoiler, James Kyson Lee talked to TV Guide this week to promote his Sci-Fi original movie “Star Runners”. James lets on a spoiler about him and Hiro starting a business that involves “glitter spandex”? Totally weird.

It’s a pity that more of the movies aren’t on Facebook! Movie distributors really aren’t tapping the fan communities as well as they could. Look at everything What Goes Up did with the fans - I wish all movies did that!! I was also surprised that only 1 fan group existed out there for these other movies, though I did find a few out there for Greta.

Have you seen the Ugly Betty casting news first seen on SpoilerTV, then confirmed by Ausiello?

Exclusive - Ugly Betty - Episode 4.01 - Casting Call for Major Recurring Role [EMILY] 20’s, female, gorgeous, African American, must be a strong actress. MAJOR RECURRING ROLE.

I’ve seen speculation that this is a reworking of Wilhelmina’s daughter, but this makes no sense to me. Wilhelmina’s daughter was named Nico (speaking of, I DO think it’s time for her to make an appearance again).

Besides, that whole “new Darren” thing always leads to no good.

The name of this character (Emily), also blows a theory I had when I first saw this. I thought to myself, wouldn’t it be neat if in season 4 Wilhelmina had visions / flashbacks just as Betty did in seasons 1 and 2? I can see Willy, right after some dastardly deed, having a conversation with “Wanda”, her younger, pre-Wilhelmina self.

The only problem with this is that it would be almost impossible to pull off, because we ALL are very familiar with what young Vanessa Williams looked like (some of us who got our hands on a certain magazine have seen more than others ).

So, this “Emily” is a new character. Could she be Matt’s new girlfriend? A new corporate person? A model with a secret?

The only thing I ask the producers – PLEASE do not make her a love interest for Daniel. At LEAST give the man till the mid-season break to grieve.

New “Labor Pains” Clip

Lindsay Lohan’s movie, Labor Pains, will be premiering on ABC Family on July 19th at 8/7c and will head to DVD and Blu-ray on August 4, 2009. Some new clips have surfaced from the film, including the one below where Lindsay Lohan’s character ‘tries’ to confess to her fake pregnancy:

In Labor Pains, Lindsay Lohan plays Thea Clayhill, a woman who pretends to be pregnant in order to avoid being fired from her job. Thea realizes that her life “doesn’t suck” as a pregnant woman, so she keeps the farce up through the 9 months of her ‘pregnancy.’

Angelina Jolie talks refugees on Anderson Cooper 360

Last night, Anderson Cooper aired an exclusive interview with Angelina Jolie on his CNN show Anderson Cooper 360. Luckily for people who weren’t able to see it yesterday, I was able to find the segment on YouTube. I’ve often found CNN to be pretty generous with its news feeds so hopefully this won’t be removed from YouTube at any point in the near future.

Anderson starts off by saying how none of the segment went as planned - explaining that Secretary of State Hillary Clinton was also supposed to be a part of the discussion but that she had fallen and broken her elbow and was unable to attend. He also added that he was meant to interview Angelina in person but that horrible weather had diverted his flight straight back home (his re-telling of the flight was pretty humorous!).

Luckily, they were able to set up a satellite feed and they did the interview that way so they could talk about the more than 42 million refugees around the world. He kicked things off by asking if there’s one particular refugee crisis that is more alarming to her than the rest and Angelina said that Pakistan is at the top right now, mostly because although it’s so recent the numbers have been climbing so rapidly - at a pace of 100,000 displaced people per day, pushing past two million in total.

Anderson then asked Angelina if her kids worry and how she explains to them all that she’s doing when she goes to these regions. I loved her answer; she said that she just tells them that there are families all around the world that aren’t as fortunate as they are, children that aren’t as lucky and that it’s important to go to these places and understand what’s going on so that they can be helped.

He also pointed out that there’s a danger of getting to a point where you keep hearing the same story over and over, and how to keep in mind that each person is an individual (I think he was sort of getting at how to avoid becoming jaded and still being able to listen to each person’s story as their own). Anderson asked Angelina if anyone ever really sticks out in her memory and she told the story of a 15-year-old boy who had lost his entire family and had been shot in the back, leaving him paralyzed. She pointed out that we all complain of so many little things on a daily basis and this boy who had lost everything was so full of life and good spirit. She broke down momentarily saying that he had passed away and that she often wondered what he could have been under better circumstances.

I don’t know how she holds it together when she’s there.

I actually had to pause the video to have an emotional moment myself when Angelina spoke of an 8-year-old girl in Tanzania who fled with her little baby brother after seeing the rest of her family killed right in front of her; she carried him and ran through the jungle, eating fruit along the way and fled for two weeks before finally arriving at a refugee camp. A year later she saw the little girl again and she was like a tiny woman despite her age, taking care of her brother at the camp and just showing remarkable, gracious resilience.

Speaking to Anderson of her own family, she said that she hopes to provide a good education for her own children, and not just when it comes to the basics of math and writing; she wants her children to go out into the world and meet the same people, the same children that she does so that they too can learn about the world and how other people live, to carry on trying to help others. The Jolie-Pitt kids are going to grow up to be the most compassionate kids in the world.

And yes, Anderson asked about her children too. He mentioned there are a lot of birthdays coming up and how do they handle that at home. Angelina laughed - she always seems so pleased to discuss her kids as long as she’s able to discuss the big issues first - and said they have so many kids right now that it’s just a big year-long birthday and they rotate it. She also said the older kids now help to plan the parties for the younger ones, which sounds cute!

In closing, Anderson asked if Brad and Angelina have plans for more kids and without hesitation she said yes, they love kids and both want a large family so they never say no.

The interview was fantastic, even if they weren’t able to sit in the same room together this time. Anderson Cooper is amazing, he’s always been my favorite on CNN and he does his job exceptionally well.
