Melanie Brown Continues To Hint At A Spice Girls Reunion

There’s a marked difference between Melanie Brown‘s behavior last week and now: A little over a week ago, she cautiously dropped the hint that she and the rest of the Spice Girls might be reuniting at Queen Elizabeth‘s Diamond Jubilee in early June. “Ooh, did I just say that?” she laughed on the Australian talk show Sunrise after dropping the monumental maybe-news. But her tweet last night makes it sound as if she’s dispensing with all formality and secret-keeping, and like a Spice Girls reunion could actually be on the way:

will be back in uk next month to see my spice girls,can”t wait,missed them all sooooooo much!!!!! girlpower all the way babay!!!

That’s all she would say on the subject, and there’s been no corroboration from the other Spice Girls. Interestingly, most of them are working on clothing lines: Emma Bunton with children’s clothes, Victoria Beckham having stars like Michelle Williams wear her designs, and Geri Halliwell resurrecting her famous Union Jack dress. (Melanie Chisholm is working on her solo career.)

Geri did speak about her career goals recently, but when she mentioned the same Diamond Jubilee, there was nothing charged behind her words: Talking about the iconic Union Jack design, she said, “We have the Olympics [coming up], we have the Diamond Jubilee; we have a lot to feel good about.” When asked about the Spice Girls musical, she said, “The storyline is brilliant, of course fantastic music. Hopefully it will make everyone smile and relive the past.” She predicts it’ll come out at the end of 2012 or beginning of 2013. If anything, the only hints from Geri were about her own solo album.

So, it could be that Mel B is just trying to get attention by stirring up rumors of a Spice Girls reunion. But let’s put on our optimistic hats and assume that there is some grand performance in the works. If that’s the case, then I agree with E! Online that she’s probably talking about rehearsals; after all, next month is already March, and it’s reasonable that something celebrating the Queen of England would require three months of rehearsal.

Plus, there are two parts to her tweet that have me thinking this could be legit: For one, she says “missed them all soooo much” about the girls. Now, it’s not surprising that the ladies stay in touch over Twitter and in-person; you can find a smattering of photos online of them out and about getting dinner and such. But the tweet seems to refer to something more than just seeing the girls, i.e., actually working together again.

Furthermore, Mel ends the tweet with “girlpower all the way!”—why invoke the group’s catchphrase/mantra if you’re just talking about the good old days?

It’s official. The Kim Kardashian and Kris Humphries divorce headlines have lasted longer than their marriage! In today’s Krisardashian news, Kim wants her divorce heard by a private mediator so nothing leaks out to the public. Kris Humphries, on the other hand, is trying to get his pre-nup and its accompanying confidentiality clause thrown out by a judge. This can only mean one thing. Kris has confidential gossip about Kim that he wants to share with the public.

Considering that he was “blindsided” by the divorce, we’d love to know what juicy information he wants to release. The entire family lives their lives in front of the camera and on the television screen and it’s hard to imagine there’s something we don’t know. Sure it’s all scripted and fake, but we know that already.

Unless, of course, Kris knows more than we do about just how scripted the Kardashian’s lives really are. Did he know about the whole “let’s get married to get divorced for publicity plan?” before he got married?

That would be scandalous, magazine-cover worthy and absolutley devastating to Kim’s career.

But if he admitted something along those lines, then this statement about his marriage to Kim would be completely invalid: ”To me it was real. I would never go through something or do something that wasn’t real or I didn’t believe in, so I can really only speak for myself in terms of that.” And he’s made a lot of statements along those lines in the past few months.

So what’s the deal and what’s the juicy gossip? What is Kim, “I live my life in front of the cameras” so determined to hide? I’m dying to know.

This may not be the 1970′s anymore and he may not be the lead singer of Led Zeppelin, but considering the fanaticism behind the Harry Potter franchise, there’s a good chance that Radcliffe has gotten more than his fair share of, how do I say this politely, poontang.

Despite being a Bravo fanatic, I’d never watched a single episode of Real Housewives of Orange Country until last night. And let me just say it’s a wonderful, heartwarming show that reminds me of a modern day version of The Waltons. Slash, all the Real Housewives of Orange County look exactly the same. Trying to recap a show where everyone has the same haircut, hair color and general disdain for each other is very difficult.

So rather than trying to tell you what Gretchen said to Vicki about Tamra‘s relationship with Heather, I thought I would focus on the more important things. Like the extremely valuable advice I learned from last night’s episode.

Catherine Hardwicke Thought The First Twilight Screenplay Sucked

Catherine Hardwicke was always a bizarre choice to direct the mopey first Twilight movie, after coming off the skaters flick Lords of Dogtown and the depressing cautionary tale Thirteen. And now, almost four years after her movie came out, we get some insight into what prompted her to choose the project.

Summit Entertainment handed her a pile of scripts, she told Vulture, but “every one of those scripts sucked. Oh Lord, did they suck.” Even Twilight, penned by Dexter writer Melissa Rosenberg? That’s a surprise; even though the end result of a movie was so cheesy, Rosenberg has worked on some fantastic shows including The O.C. But, as Hardwicke clarifies, she was drawn to the project and Stephenie Meyer‘s books anyway:

“I thought the script was horrible, but then I looked it up on the Internet and I thought, Okay, it’s based on a book and people tend to like it. There’s gotta be something there. So I read the book and I thought it captured that feeling of being madly in love. And I thought, That’s kind of a good challenge, to see if, as a filmmaker, I could make you feel that giddy, crazy… ”

That’s not surprising, considering how Hardwicke channeled teenage angst and a self-destructive spiral through Evan Rachel Wood and Nikki Reed (who went on to play Rosalie Cullen). And here’s another interesting tidbit: Hardwicke signed on to the project on the condition that she got to do a complete rewrite. As Cinema Blend points out, why is it that for all four movies, Rosenberg has gotten the main screenwriter credit? Do the subsequent directors — Chris Weitz, David Slade, Bill Condon – deserve writing credits as well?

Hardwicke should dish on Twilight all the time, since in one interview we got three juicy pieces of insight—the third being the grand showmance of Robert Pattinson and Kristen Stewart. The director confesses that she felt badly when the two got together, since at the start of filming RPattz was with Nikki and Kristen was dating Michael Angarano. “He’s a wonderful actor,” Hardwicke said. “He was in Dogtown, one of my favorites, so I felt pretty bad because I love him and they were such a great couple.”

Seriously! This interview yielded more gems than most.

As if Ellen needed to give me one more reason to love her, she’s addressing the One Million Moms boycott against her being the JCPenney spokesperson head on during today’s show. In light of Prop 8 being ruled unconstitutional yesterday (yays all around!) and the fact that the One Million Moms group is still trying to ruin her partnership with JCPenney, Ellen thought it was time to speak out.

And she did it in her typical Ellen fashion; with humor, logic and a reference to the Pillsbury Doughboy. But just because it was funny doesn’t mean that she left out the big facts, including the fact that the One Million Moms group only has 40,000 members on Facebook and that JCPenney’s getting lots of positive Pro-Ellen support for not backing down.

Feel inspired to support Ellen? Go write a positive message on JCPenney’s Facebook wall. I promise you that the pro-Ellen support messages that are already there will make you feel all warm and fuzzy inside.

Between this outpouring of support for Ellen and the outpouring of support for Planned Parenthood last week, I feel like the Internet has renewed my faith in humanity. If enough of us show our support on social media, we actually can make a difference. Nice thought to kick off hump day, right?

The Academy Is Foolish For Not Letting Jason Segel Perform His Muppets Song At The Oscars

Not only is it a crock that the Academy of Motion Picture Arts & Sciences nominated only two songs for Best Song, but now Deadline reports that we won’t even get to see the songs performed at this year’s Oscars! The blame seems to have landed on the awards show’s time constraints; each year it’s a battle to keep it to a neat and hopefully entertaining three hours, and despite protests from Fox and Disney, the songs got cut.

Honestly, I don’t care either way if we see “Real in Rio” from Rio—the real crime is taking away “Man or Muppet” from The Muppets. It was written by Flight of the Conchords‘ Bret McKenzie and performed wonderfully by writer-star Jason Segel (not to mention the cameo from The Big Bang Theory‘s Jim Parsons). If we could get Zachary Levi and Mandy Moore onstage last year to sing their Tangled song, then we shouldn’t miss out on these relevant, genuinely beloved actors.

It’s no secret that Jason’s musical numbers are instant viral content, from his schadenfreude anthem “You Just Got Slapped” on How I Met Your Mother to the impromptu Les Miserables duet he and Neil Patrick Harris launched into on a talk show years ago. If the Academy wanted the Oscars fever to last beyond February 26, they should have included Jason, Jim, and those damn adorable puppets.

The Academy is trying to do damage control by saying that the show isn’t set in stone yet. “Someone ‘leaking’ this possibility to you is just another way for people to try and influence the creative direction of the show,” an insider wrote to Deadline. We only hope they’ll change their minds and book Jason before he finds something better to do.
