Dale Carnegie is an American writer, lecturer and is one of the early successful pioneers in the Self-Improvement genre. His classic works include "How to Win Friends and Influence People" and "How to Stop Worrying and Start Living". Though he was born poor but nonetheless struggled himself to become successful.

Once in a while when we seem to think that what we strive in life is too much for us to accomplish then we have to have somebody to look up into...somebody who has proven that what we really want in life is indeed possible.

Dale Breckenridge Carnegie (originally Carnagey until 1922 and possibly somewhat later) (November 24, 1888 – November 1, 1955) was an American writer and lecturer and the developer of famous courses in self-improvement, salesmanship, corporate training, public speaking and interpersonal skills.

Born in poverty on a farm in Missouri. He was considered as the 20th Century pioneer in the Self-Help movement when he published the book "How to Win Friends and Influence People" in 1936. It was very successful that it sold over 15 million copies, available in most major languages, and still is up to now, one of the biggest overall best-sellers in the self-help/improvement genre.

On my reflection: Sometimes it is not enough to rely on your own to achieve the success you want in life. What you lack in life, find it from somebody whom you can trust, knows best and follow their advice.

Over the years, I stumbled upon quite a few dozens of quotations of which I believe is worthy of a note. Though, it is somewhat unfortunate because I didn't spent enough effort in keeping them or archiving them. And it is for that reason that I think I'm gonna maximize this venue.

I went to Booksale Bookstore at their branch at Gaisano Fiesta Mall at Talisay City, Cebu and got a hold of Dale Carnegie's Classic Book "How to Stop Worrying and Start Living".

The book is written on a down-to-earth, simple to understand, narrative format.

Part One
Fundamental facts you should know about worry

1. If you want to avoid worry, do what Sir William Osler did: Live in "day-tight compartments." Don't stew about the futures. Just live each day u ntil bedtime.
2. The next time Trouble--with a Capital T--backs you up in a corner, try the magic formula of Willis H. Carrier:
a. Ask yourself, "What is the worst that can possibly happen if I can't solve my problem?
b. Prepare yourself mentally to accept the worst--if necessary.
c. Then calmly try to improve upon the worst--which you have already mentally agreed to accept.
3. Remind yourself of the exorbitant price you can pay for worry in terms of your health. "Those who do not know how to fight worry die young."

Part Two
Basic techniques in analyzing worry

1. Get the facts. Remember that Dean Hawkes of Columbia University said that "half the worry in the world is caused by people trying to make decisions before they have sufficient knowledge on which to base a decision."
2. After carefully weighing all the facts, come to a decision.
3. Once a decision is carefully reached, act! Get busy carrying out your decision--and dismiss all anxiety about the outcome.
4. When you, or any of your associates, are tempted to worry about a problem, write out and answer the following questions:
a. What is the problem?
b. What is the cause of the problem?
c. What are all possible solutions?
d. What is the best solution?

Part Three
How to break the worry habit before it breaks you

1. Crowd worry out of your mind by keeping busy. Plenty of action is one of the best therapies ever devised for curing "wibber gibbers."
2. Don't fuss about trifles. Don't permit little things--the mere termites of life--to ruin your happines.
3. Use the law of averages to outlaw your worries. Ask yourself: "What are the odds against this thing's happening at all?"
4. Co-operate with the inevitable. If you know a circumstance is beyond your power to change or revise, say to yourself: "It is so; it cannot be otherwise."
5. Put a "stop-less" order on your worries. Decide just how much anxiety a thing may be worth--and refuse to give it anymore.

Seven ways to cultivate a mental attitude that will bring you peace and happiness

1. Let's fill our minds with thoughts of peace, courage, health, and hope, for "our life is what our thoughts make it."

Today, April 6, 2009 marks the 1st Month Death Anniversary of my idol - Francis Michael D. Magalona aka the "King of Pinoy Rap".

Though I can't expect anymore from him some more of his creative outputs but I won't regret for he's already done a lot of job, with the best of his abilities, with the most of his time in expressing himself, spreading his message across the archipelago - with various topics such as nationalism, corruption, poverty, and other relevant social issues. His various works and collaborations with some of the names of the music industry. His personal undertakings like his own production company, his clothing line, etc.

And personally, what counts most is his personal influence on me on music - the love of rap, hip-hop and the OPM.

I was in my elementary then when "Mga Kababayan" was a huge hit. And in our school I was sort of one-minute famous for I was one of the first to introduce to my classmates its famous dance steps esp. the running man.

Hah, soon after that I started to follow him - bought his albums (it was in cassette tapes - can't afford the cd then). Started to act and dress like him.

When I was in High School - Francis released his "Meron Akong Ano!" album and instantly almost memorized the lyrics of all of the songs. I was once again famous (in my batch) - for I dropped rhymes like Francis M. does.

Hehe, not to mention when I was in college, when I was still wooing my girl then. I was convinced that I must learn the guitar - after hearing his song "Girl Be Mine" so that I can use it to make "harana" to her.

What I like about the song is not just the wonderful melody but as well as the lyrics that I can personally relate to - being lonely sometimes especially on rainy days doing nothing just thinking and wishing that the girl I love will eventually be mine. So desperate one time, I was having a bad dream - woke up in the middle of the night & then I weep - like the song said, really...the girl went not to me but to the other guy. But thanks goodness it was only a dream. And just like the song - I also prayed to God that He'll help me win the girl. Luckily, my prayers were answered that until now the girl is still mine till these very years.

7 Months Hiatus

Well, well, well.

I thought my blogs are dead.

For over seven months now since my last post, I thought I'll never have to post another one. But no, maybe not because I'm certain I missed my blogs.

Though, not so much and not that really interesting but what matters most to me is the feeling of self-accomplishment. For every post I made, I feel like I accomplish something - its a personal thing I guess. It's more like the effort that counts, the personal touch, the time I spent pondering my thoughts - translating it to readable print so that it can be read by any wandering souls out there.

Oh, what a joy - from the simplest of things.

The Philippines having the highest percentage of social network users

I happen to stumble on an article from Inquirer.net that writes a story about the

Philippines having the highest percentage of social network users.

The study is released by New York-based media agency Universal McCann.

What's interesting to note is that according to the report:

*The Philippines have a 15 percent Internet penetration.

*It is estimated that 37 million active Internet users visit online everyday/every other day.

*It is estimated that 83 percent of Internet users in the country have created social network profiles, having the highest percentage ahead of Hungary (80%), Poland (77%) and Mexico (76%).

*It is estimated that 90 percent of the users in the Philippines have Friendster accounts. Versus MySpace and Facebook from the rest of the world.

*It is estimated that 90 percent of the Filipino users reads blogs, second only to South Korea (92 percent).

*The Philippines has the highest percentage of users (86%) that have uploaded photos in these social networks, ahead of China (73 percent), Mexico (72 percent), and Brazil (70 percent).

*It also estimated that 98 percent of Filipino Internet users have watched videos on YouTube, again ranked highest ahead of Mexico and Brazil.

*However, the Philippines was ranked a few notches lower when it comes to downloading podcasts or using RSS feeds.

I believe that the data presented above offers a lot of opportunities. The internet revolution in the country has just began and I'm confident that in the years to come , the Philippines will be a force to be reckon with.

SEO Update II

After almost two weeks from the time since I posted about my first SEO Update entry, I think I fairly managed to successfully achieved my first campaign.

As you can see from my previous post, I stated there wherein I searched for the keyword "bisdak blogger" and sadly, Google result for this particular site gave me none. Well, except for my other site, which is "My Bisdak Lounge" which was ranked at number 18 previously (but now ranked at 42nd --> TOINKZ!).

But lo and behold, after tweaking some stuff, I was amazed that my site now lands at the 2nd spot. Well, as for the moment, I don't intend to be on top since I'm still a newbie and besides I don't think I can beat the www.blogcatalog.com's result.

As for Yahoo's result, from the previous Top 3, it's now up by one notch. I'm now second only to www.bisayabloggers.com. Like I said, I'm not trying to dislodge them.

SEO Update

After realizing that its almost a month now and still no new post, I felt like I was obliged to hurriedly put one.

I was thinking of what to write when I noticed from my Live Traffic Feed in one of my blogs that there were visitors who came from Google.

It really surprised me since although some of my blogs are already three months old but honestly I was up to now too lazy to mind about doing that SEO thing.

Since I think this is a good starting point, to know at present how search engines indexed my blogs without doing any optimizations yet. And to check later after doing the job. I believe I must post an entry out of this.

I searched for the keyword "bisdak blogger" in Google and was amazed to see that my "Bisdak Lounge" blog lands at number 18 spot. Though if the same keyword is searched but without the space in between the words bisdak and blogger, my bisdakblogger site would land at the top spot.

I searched the same keyword at Yahoo but was even more surprised to see that it landed at the Top 3 spot. Haha, lucky me. Top 3 spot without sweat. Heck, I don't know when will it last. As far as I'm concerned I'm not optimizing my site yet.

No, I'll not gonna talk about the latest update about this ill-fated ship nor updates about the fatality. Instead, I'll talk about the number of page views from my photo of the said ship.

Before the tragedy, the number of page views was just around 2,000++, but a day after the news broke, I noticed a sudden surge of views, a 100% increase and five days after, a whopping 479% increase. As of today (28 June 2008, 17:03 Manila Time), it has 11,580 number of views.

Along with the number of views, also came the photo's popularity --> I saw it on YouTube, on a number of blogs, on some european tv news network. Comments also came (including nasty ones on some of the pics from my other photostream), a number of email messages also came, invitations to add as contacts, to join groups etc.

No big deal actually, I'm just happy that a lot of people came to view my pictures. Not to mention the piece of information that I have just shared to everybody.

What I fervently wish is that I hope people will put a little bit of space for the credits, (cause a lot of them never did :-( .. whatever!).

Probably, one of the next thing that a new blogger must face after setting up his/her new account, aside from the content of course, is on finding ways on how to have the right template that will suit the bloggers personality and on how to have the contents presented.

What I did was googled once again for the available free templates site and was amazed of how plenty they are. It took me several sites and several samples and later on bumped with the site www.eblogtemplates.com.

I was amazed at the available downloadable free templates on the site. And I wasted no time in choosing the best one for me. I settled with their Ads Theme template and after a few hours (upon lots of experimentation on how to modify and set it up), my blog finally is up and running.

What I like about eblogtemplates.com are as follows:
*) Plenty of available free templates. Whether you're from blogspot or from wordpress.
*) The support is considerably good. Courtesy from the members of the community.
*) It offers lots of tips. Especially if you're a newbie like me.

Blogger VS WordPress

One of the challenging questions posed by a start-up blogger is to find the perfect place where one could finally settle his/her creation.

Like me when I finally decided to have my own blog, I was aware that theres a lot out there who offers free blog hosting services.

I scanned the net for a few minutes looking for who's on top and what's hot. I was amazed how many there was (including from the social networking sites like multiply, friendster, etc. ) Until finally, I decided to narrow my options to two -- Blogger and WordPress.

I was thinking who would be the best? But it seems that this question is quite difficult to answer for every one have its own reason/s and/or opinion.

I have no choice but to try myself instead which one would best suit me.

The way I look at WordPress blogs, I think its really kinda nice. Its clean, simple and the way you could organize and present your posts are amazing. The only problem is that since I'm new to this kinda endeavor, I found it very difficult to find my way and accomplish what I wanted my blog to look like.

But when I tried Blogger, I was stuck. Not only I consider making and tweaking my blog a breeze but as well as giving me the opportunity to earn (through third-party widgets). Whats funny is that I found out that my first ever blogspot account way back two years ago is still present, even though it had only a single post and only comprises a couple of words.

And through this post, I'm awarding Blogspot.com the award as MY PERSONAL CHOICE!

Finally, I've decided to have my own blog!

With all those negative ideas like -- do I really know how to write (hmnn...I'm not sure about this, really) ? And stuff like -- the intricacies of having and maintaining a blog.

Anyways, I must face all these challenges and see how will myself handle this.

One thing that's still on my mind though is -- what's really the best?

Blogger or WordPress?

I must soon find out!

Nevertheless, I started at Blogger. Why? Simply because its from Google! And I think Google rocks!
