I Lost The Bet

I bet my son would never be interested with guitars, though before he was born it was something I hoped that he would be good at just like his father. But as he grow up, he is more interested in drawing. He has lots of drawing books piled up since he was 2 years old. And he would always demand to have a new one when all of the pages are filled up. He even created his own comic story called "The Legend of Rass", a story about a policeman who turned into a zombie!

He is also into singing and loves music so much just like my hubby, and they both love the same genre of music. So, they always can relate the kind of songs they add up to their playlist. But some months ago, he told me that he would rather choose to play the piano than with the guitar. And there goes down my hope.. and he was really serious when saying it. I can also sense that he has no interest with guitar since he never once touched or tried to play it. So I thought he would never be interested with it. Not until 5 days ago (December 19), I was shocked when I saw him with my hubby's electric guitar, strumming it, and said.. "Pa, teach me how to play the guitar."

When it comes to his interests, it is not something like we-teach-him-to-do-this-and-do-that, that sort of attitude. We give him the complete freedom to choose what he really like. Because we believe that you can never be good at anything without the passion. Like with drawing, I never taught him to draw, nor convinced him to draw. What happened is that, when I was teaching him the English alphabet when he was 2 years old, I gave him a drawing book to write on to. And he was so smart to learn how to read and write them all in no time, and I am so proud of him. But then he started to draw things, circles, lines and human stick figures. So I let his creativity run wild by giving him more drawing books and drawing materials.

And when I learned how to draw using a mouse with Paint Tool SAI, he then asked me to teach him and install SAI in his computer. And I only taught him once or twice, and he just explored the application on his own, and even shared to me what new things he had discovered. Same goes with guitars, my hubby decided to wait for him to be interested with it, and the waiting paid off. :)

I should have let it pass, but the thing was, the submitter even posted on his profile some drawings (like a draft) imitating these chibis as if this entry is his final work. I wasn't able to take some screenshots because he deleted it or must have it set to private viewing only. He also deleted all the comments on his entry including some comments that busted him.

And what's worst, he even included this info on his submitted entry:

"Media: paper - pencil - adobe photoshop CS5.1 - mouse - graphics tablet = 3 days".

As if he made it himself!!

Another year is about to end, and it was one hell of a ride, but this has been one of the best years ever! Not just in terms of how-I-define-success, but as well as with the big improvements I have seen in my artworks (especially compared to my works last year). And in spite of my busy life I was able to manage drawing at least one artwork per month.

Drawing for me is one way of venting out stress and frustrations, and of expressing myself. And once I get started with one project, I find it really hard to stop and I always end up losing track of time!

It also comes in with a witch hat, but I already have mine thrown away because I don't like it at all. :P

But I really don't have time to do this kind of craft anymore, and I still have lots of unused felt in various colors and a bag-full of stuffing. The only thing I hate while doing this kind of stuff is that it gives me a lot of eye strain, and I have to wear my glasses which I don't like at all.

Chibi Drawing: bbSHI's Trick or Treat

Please note that this is not a tutorial, and that I am just a self-taught artist, so what I know may not be right. This is just a product of constant practice, experimenting and observing other artists' works + patience with using computer mouse as my main tool.

Below are some simple steps on how I do my thing.

Tools:
— Paint Tool SAI 1.0
— Adobe Photoshop CS2 (for the texts)
— Computer Mouse

Total time spent:
— 2 hours

Featuring my OC bbSHI for Halloween 2011 :)

1. DRAFT

Drafted directly in Paint Tool SAI using pen tool with 50% density and 50% layer opacity.

And that's how dirty my drafts are!

2. LINEART

Lineart using SAI's Vector layer and Curve tool.

I don't really follow what's on my draft, I just need it as a guide. :)

3. APPLYING FLAT COLORS

This is the easiest part, and pretty self-explainable.

4. SHADING

Using Pen tool at 100% density.

I totally fail at shading.. OTL

Spotted so many mistakes, yet too lazy to edit! Just bear with it~ :P

5. MORE SHADING

Using Airbrush tool at minimal density..

6. ADDING HIGHLIGHTS & ALL!

and that is all folks! :D

New Changes For Art Freebies

I really need to do some changes with regards to my FB fanpage. This is to give myself more time, though no one is asking me to do this art requests thingy, it was my decision in the first place.:P

I love doing art requests, because they give me the challenge and a piece to practice my skills. It was through this process that I have achieved my current style and art skill level. If you have seen my drawings before, you can really see how much I have improved since I started the art request thread (at the old FlyFF forums) that I made 2 years ago. It was the passion to please and make the person requesting it happy.

Anyway, the changes I am talking about is:
1. Instead of using Facebook as the bridge for giving away art freebies, I will now be using my very own blog -» (http://bablih.blogspot.com).

2. Instead of doing requests by batches, I will now only be giving away one(1) free art request randomly, so there will be no more posting of schedules. You just need to stay updated!

The mechanics will now be:
1. Everyone who will make a comment on a certain blog post, will have a chance of winning.
2. The winner will be chosen using random.org or using the old fashion draw lots.
3. Drawing of lots, and the announcing of the winner will be done one week after. So you have one whole week to enter the draw.

The reasons for doing this is to keep my blog alive. Since this blog is the only thing I am planning on keeping here online, like I could quit Facebook any moment if I want to. Also I got tired of updating my Facebook fanpage. But the main reason is, I just realized how busy I am with my new job, and for sure for the coming weeks too - it will still be the same story. You see, my boss is very kind for giving me lots of opportunity to work on to, and I am very happy to accept them all as they go along my way every week. So in the end, it leaves me less time for other stuffs and less time to play online games. :D
