In 2004, two dutch companies, River Flowers and F.J. Zandbergen, experimented and successfully grew a rose that had its petals rainbow colored. As petals get their nourishment through stem, the idea is to split the stem into several channels and dip each one in a different colored water. This way all the colors will be drawn by the stem into petals and resultant rose will have all the colors in it. The same method can be applied to other flowers especially to Chrysanthemum and Hydrangea. You can use the same idea to color any flower, anyway you like.

Ice Cold Drink in 3 minutes flat

If you want to cool a warm beer or soda to ice cold in 3 minutes, put the can or cans in a pot and cover with ice. Next, add 2 cups of salt and fill with water. It will be ice cold in 3 minutes.

Unlock a chain lock from the outside

Find a rubber band. Attach the rubber band to the chain lock, then to the indoor handle. As you close the door from the outside, the rubber band will pull the chain and the lock will dislodge. Works like a charm.

Tanaka Seisakusyo’s new Automatic Door is the most puzzling thing I’ve seen this week.

The door is segmented into multiple strips and opens minimally according to the shape of the individual, animal or object that has to pass through. It also incorporates a security function that identifies people. The door is activated by the infrared sensors (the small black areas attached at the inner edges of the strips).

Organic patterns, forms and materials have an instinctive draw; work may look determinedly abstract to the naked eye, but by using a spiral or circle, or a familiar material, the viewer’s gaze is lured inward, as if into a ‘field of attraction’, only to be repulsed or even menaced by the associations that unfold once ‘inside’.
