Talk about a dose of reality! Kourtney Kardashian moved to Miami earlier this year to film a show, Kourtney & Khloé Take Miami, about her and her younger sister as sexy singles in the city. But by the time they made the trek back to LA, Kourtney was carrying a little extra baggage. “It wasn’t something I expected or planned,” Kourtney tells Life & Style in an exclusive interview. “It was just meant to be.”

Now eight months into the pregnancy, Kourtney, 30, is eagerly preparing to welcome a bouncing baby boy with her on-again, off-again boyfriend, Scott Disick, 26, in December. “My pregnancy has been wonderful,” she gushes. “I love being pregnant. I’m excited to be a mom — but I’m nervous.” And viewers will get to see her take on the new role — and maybe even get a peek inside the delivery room — during season four of Keeping Up With the Kardashians. What they won’t see, however, is Kourt complaining about her burgeoning belly. “I’m totally excited to gain weight, and I’m embracing it,” she tells Life & Style. “I run around naked all day at home! I like that my body is changing. It’s a beautiful thing.”

And like a good teammate, Scott’s making every effort to redeem himself in the eyes of Kourtney’s family. In the past, she’s accused him of cheating, which he adamantly denies. “Scott and I have been going to different parenting classes,” Kourtney tells Life & Style. “They made me nervous at first, putting all kinds of information into my head, but they’re helpful. They’re a fun thing for Scott and me to do together.” But being a perfect father doesn’t mean Scott will necessarily make Kourtney an honest woman. “I’m 30, but I never was that girl who was like, ‘I need to get married,’” she says. “I never had a plan. Now I have so much to think about for the baby. I’ll worry about myself later.”

For more from Kourtney on her pregnancy, parenting and marriage, pick up the latest issue of Life & Style, on newsstands now!

I have come to know many mom-based, mom-owned companies through out the years and they each have their own stories on how their businesses came to be. Periodically you will get to see a glimpse into their lives and how their businesses were created. Starting a business can be a scary thing, in any economy and it isn’t all glitz and glam, it is a lot of hard work, blood, sweat and yes, even tears. The one thing that remains constant is their will, persistence and the belief that their dreams can come true. The following story is the story of how one business came to be as told by Heather, owner and founder of Chickadee Prints.

BS: How did Chickadee Prints come to be?
CP: In 2006, I had the idea to start a custom stationery shoppe called Rainy Day Memories. Everything would be custom…each order treated individually, no two designs alike. It was just me, sitting at my home computer, working lots of hours, for basically no profit. But, I enjoyed what I was doing…I liked creating art. I continued at this part-time pace until 2009, when I realized that I wanted something more. I wanted to take myself more out of the picture so that I could serve many more clients and provide many more designs.

So in June of 2009, I set out to rename my company to Chickadee Prints. My vision was for customers to be able to fully edit their text and upload their photos to the card design of their choice. My website would have cards for almost everything…baby announcements to moving announcements, and Christmas cards to theme party cards. Oh, and I also wanted my cards to be printed on recycled cardstock and my packaging to be recyclable, if not made from recycled materials. That wasn’t too much to ask, was it? Apparently, it was. Starting your own business and starting on a grander scale is a much bigger deal than just me.

I hired a website design company who could do what I was looking for, but there were so many obstacles with even that. They were a relatively new company, featuring a new concept. So, there were ideas that still needed to be completed, which meant that my target for opening in August 2009, was pushed back to September 2009. Tears flowed regularly as I felt I wasn’t in control of my vision and my dream…my timeline was affected by someone else…another part of a larger business. We did, though, find a wonderful printing company who could handle my tall order of using recycled paper and recyclable packaging materials, so that was a shining moment for me. I felt good that Chickadee Prints would do what we could to help the earth…being that we are a stationery company using paper…I couldn’t let us be completely unaware of our impact. I chose a printing company who uses FSC Certified paper which means that for all the trees affected by becoming paper, more trees are immediately planted in their place. As I waited for the website to work out all the kinks, I hired more people to work with me on my design team. We are now a team of four, designing all styles to fit different tastes.

September passed, and still no site. More tears, more empty promises, and more frustration. All of my time was getting sucked into making this dream become a reality. I was constantly on the computer, fighting with the website company, emailing back and forth with my designers, uploading products into the cart…just working all hours to get everything in place for when we could finally launch. My family suffered. My husband said my computer was more important than the family. My kids didn’t understand how I could be home and not playing with them. Balancing working at home and a family is not easy by any means. I feel guilty when I’m working because I’m not playing with them, and I feel guilty playing with them when I should be working. I knew though, that one day, all of my hours and effort would pay off, and I would soon have more freed up time, once all my chicks were in a row.

Finally, on October 19th, I was told that we are essentially ready for launch! The website company needed a 2 day notice to launch, so I said let’s do it! I am happy to announce that Chickadee Prints will be open for business on October 22nd, 2009. While I am excited beyond belief that this is really happening, I am, at the same time, completely scared at starting something so big…a real company. I am thankful though, that I had support all along the way, because without it, I don’t think I would have continued on after all the setbacks along the way. Support is key. Now that I’ve made it through the first step of setting up the business, I am excited about the next step…running it!

BS: Thank you Heather for your inspirational story that goes to show that no matter what obstacles are thrown your way, we all have the power to keep moving forward towards our goals and dreams.

There are many untold stories of how businesses and products came to be. Each company has a unique and personal story behind it and we are lucky enough to get to the root of their existence. Baby Swags comes into contact with many mom-entrepreneurs and it is our pleasure to share their stories with you, with the hope that it inspires or ignites that entrepreneurial spark that is in many stay at home moms and reaches out to those who don’t think that they have what it takes to get it all done. We are here to tell you it is possible. If you have a dream, if you believe it, you can achieve it and yes, you can succeed!

Our first Mom-Entrepreneur is Lindsay. She is from Toronto, Canada and the mom of two beautiful daughters, ages 2.5 and 10 months. She had been a stay-at-home mom until she started her company, Glow Baby. Here is her own, personal story of how Glow Baby came to be and how she simply, gets it done.

BS: Hi Lindsay, please start by telling us a little bit about yourself.
LH: I had been a stay-at-home-mom up until recently when I started Glow Baby. Prior to having children I worked in Human Resources for a large Canadian Bank but once having my first daughter when it came time to go back to work I decided to stay at home for a few years. My life is very busy with raising my two girls and starting a company. For fun I love going on family outings. My girls are a wonder to me and I can’t get enough of them. For relaxation, I love to read and have a weakness for reality TV, Twitter and Facebook.

BS: What is the nature of your business?
LH: Glow Baby is dedicated to providing functional and sophisticated products for families. Our first product is “Baby’s First Journal” which is a baby care log book that is essential for parents of newborns.

BS: How did your business come to be?
LH: I decided to start Glow Baby after being frustrated by the lack of savvy organizational products for parents in today’s market. There are so many products out there for babies yet when I tried to find a functional baby care log book I was at a loss. The newborn stage is the most difficult for parents as they are trying to get to know their new baby at the same time sleep deprivation reduces your ability to remember the important details. I found tracking the feeding, sleeping and diapering of both my children to have been instrumental in easing my way into parenthood and feel very strongly that this product needs to be available to all parents.

BS: What are some of your successes? Toot your horn if you will!
LH: I am most proud of being able to get my company up and running while looking after my two daughters with minimal help. My biggest success to date it that “Baby’s First Journal” is now in 30 stores across North America and this has been accomplished in 3 short months. I am proud of myself that I have been able to take a concept and put it into a functional yet beautiful product that will be a wonderful keepsake of their child’s early months. I am also proud of the way this product has been embraced by other moms and the media. One of our stores featured “Baby’s First Journal” on their website and a mom commented that they had been hearing about the journal everywhere and that they thought it would be the “Baby Shower Gift of 2009/10″.

BS: How do you balance mom/work life? What is a typical day like?
LH: My typical day is non-stop start to finish. My first priority is my girls so business is done during nap times and after bed time. My typical day is get up, get the girls dressed after my husband feeds them breakfast (I have a wonderfully supportive husband who I could not do any of this without). Take Ainsley to nursery school then come home and put Juliet down for her nap. Work. Get Juliet up from her nap and give her a snack. I then play with Juliet until it is time to pick Ainsley up from school. Feed the girls lunch, play, put them down for their naps. Work until the girls get up from their nap. Then its snack time and play time until my husband gets home. Make dinner, have dinner, then my husband will play with the girls while I work for a bit. Then its bathtime and bedtime. Then I work again. I am the queen of multi-tasking. I use lists and spreadsheets to keep track of everything I am doing so I don’t forget anything. It also helps that I can type like a madwoman!

BS: How do you organize your time?
LH: I organize my time around what my girls need from me. I then prioritize based on urgency. Customers always come first and then everything else.

BS: What has been the one thing that you wish you could do differently with your business?
LH: I wish I had started my business sooner!!!

BS: What tips can you share with our readers about starting a business?
LH: The most important tip is to reach out to other mompreneurs and ask questions about anything you don’t know or can’t find information about. I have connected with a number of fabulous mompreneurs who have gone through what I am going through or are in the same boat as me and the knowledge sharing has been extremely helpful.

BS: If you have any employees or if you are considering hiring, how do you or how do you think you would handle delegating responsibilities?
LH: I wish I had it in the budget to hire help in things like accounting but right now I am a one woman show.

BS: What is in store for your business for 2010? Any new products launching, expos exhibiting at, etc…?
LH: In the next month I will be launching a medication pad for tracking medication and dosage information. This will allow parents (or anyone) to keep track of the medications they give their children and ensure that they are getting the appropriate amount of doses as prescribed and not miss any doses. I am also adding a shopping list to my line which will help parents plan their meals for the week and will be a great complement to “Baby’s First Foods”.

BS: Is there anything else you would like to share with our readers?
LH: I am planning on launching “Baby’s First Foods” in 2010 as well as doing a second print run of “Baby’s First Journal” on eco-friendly papers. “Baby’s First Foods” will allow parents to keep track of what foods they are introducing to their children and if they like the food and whether there is an allergic reaction. It will also include a menu planner and pages to jot down recipes. This book is necessary for making sure that caregivers and both parents are on the same page with regards to what their child can and cannot eat. I will also be focusing on spreading the word about my product and I hope to add additional sales representatives to cover all of North America.

Thank you Lindsay for your time and answering our questions.

The Kardashian sisters are a force to be reckoned with. But one guy has the ability to stop the Keeping Up With the Kardashians crew in its tracks: Kourtney Kardashian’s unborn baby boy! Life & Style spoke with Kourtney, 30, Kim, 29, Khloé, 25, and their mom, Kris Jenner, 53, about all things baby at the grand opening of Famous Cupcakes in LA on Oct. 7. “Khloé and I are planning a baby shower for the end of November,” Kim tells Life & Style. “I’m so excited to see Kourtney take on this new role. We will always be there if she needs us.”

L&S: Who’s most excited about the baby’s arrival?
Kim: Mom is going to be the most emotional, since this is her first grandchild. Everyone in the family just can’t wait for the baby to come. I am so excited to be an aunt.
Khloé: Now that Kourtney’s almost due, it’s exciting. Before it was like, “Hurry up.” Now it’s like, “Oh my God, the baby is coming!”

L&S: Kris, have you been giving Kourtney a lot of advice?
Kris: Of course. I’m annoying her. She won’t listen to me anymore.
Kourtney: All she does is tell me what she did, and I’m like, “Okay, that was 30 years ago.”

L&S: Does all the baby planning make you want one?
Kim: Of course. You see what my sister is going through and it’s so much fun. Kourtney’s picking out cribs and high chairs. I’m getting her little clothes and shoes. It’s all so cute.
Khloé: I’ve always loved babies — I love children. If it happens, it happens. I’m not trying to make anything happen. I’m 25, I just got married, so I’m just seeing how everything goes.

People often wonder why companies send celebrities products when they clearly make enough money to purchase it themselves. When it comes to celebrities, one thing is for certain; they draw media attention. When companies send products to celebrities they aren’t thinking about how much the product costs and whether or not they can afford to by it, they are thinking about the results that the media attention will bring to their company when the celebrity is seen, either on video or in a photograph with or wearing their product.

With each celebrity gifting option, there are different types, styles and costs to be involved, along with different results you can expect. It is best to do your homework and be sure you are comfortable with the company you are working with, this type of marketing campaign, and results you can expect before you even put your foot in the door.

Swag Bags: Swag Bags can generally be the least costly way to send celebrities your product, ranging anywhere from $50 to $800 for each gift bag promotion. A swag bag will typically consist of merchandise that is distributed to celebrities, musicians, media, or other high profile members of society and corporate America. You may be familiar with the Swag Bags given to celebrities for the Oscars, The Emmys, ESPY awards and many other celebrity awards ceremonies. Swag bags can be sent to one celebrity or a group of celebrities for many different occasions, so it is best to know the theme and the quantity of products needed before you agree to any gift bag promotion.

Gift Suites or Lounges: Usually with this option, the cost to be involved is in the thousands and numbers of products requested are in the hundreds. However, gift suites give you direct access to the invited celebrities, agents, stylists and media. Most are set up like trade shows. You will receive your table and draping, chairs, and will be allowed to have two representatives at your booth. You design your gift suite spot as you would your trade show booth with attractive displays, catchy signage and a charming personality behind the table. Be prepared to take your own pictures so don’t forget your camera!

Results: Swag Bags and Gift Suites are to be used as a form of marketing and advertising. People should not go into participating in luxury lounges or donating products to gift bags and expect many immediate returns. You should consider it to be part of you’re advertising campaign. Just like any other form of advertising, it takes time, patience, quality products or services, persistence and determination to promote your business. Some times advertising campaigns are an over night success, others take more time; some unfortunately don’t work at all. You need to find what works best for you and your company. While not all celebrities respond to gifts received, others will provide you with a quote, thank you note, or other communication that provides you with another way to gain coverage and credibility for your product or service.
