Focus: Kick Counting

Listen to Baby Time: Focus - Kick Counting

Kick Counting is a technique of determining the health of your baby during the 2nd and 3rd Trimesters of Pregnancy that has become more mainstream in recent history. Making a note of your baby's regular activity is quite simple. During this interview with Kerry and Dan, Dr. Diep Nguyen of the Baby Kick Alliance explains how this practice can improve the chances of a successful pregnancy and ease an expectant mom's mind. She also discusses the topics of stillbirth, risk factors, and why it's important for moms to be vigilant and confident. All that and more on this focus episode of Baby Time!

Jack is 24.5 Months Old! He's speaking in sentences, developing wonderfully, and was still at least Mr. 95th Percentile at his most recent check-up. Kerry, on the other hand, had a rough week of food poisoning, bronchitis, and worrying the whole time that she'd get Jack sick too. Meanwhile, Dan reports that work on the new playroom has progressed, but some of the work helped get him and Kerry sick as well. The big news, however, is the impending news due tomorrow: the gender of the new baby! Learn how long you'll have to wait to learn the news and hear about much more, all on this episode of Baby Time!

All the topics from Jack's congestion to Kerry's pregnancy - now 15 Weeks Pregnant - and more are discussed this week on this super sized episode of Baby Time!

On our 10th show, we revealed that our baby would be a boy.

This week - Week 27 - we mark our 20th show with another important revelation: the baby's name!

Kerry and Dan discuss the evolution of the baby name decision from years back to their final decision made months ago. On hand to join the discussion is special guest Dan's mom, Bonnie, who shares her experience with naming her two babies. Also discussed are the results of an informal poll Kerry and Dan sent out to friends and family about how they named their babies, and the results are interesting.

Finally, what will be the baby's name?

Baby Size Update: a 2-liter soda bottle.

Also Kerry and Dan address more feedback, including thoughts on a baby sling, a baby boppy, and the mommy roundtable from last week. (And congrats to Kimberly and Chris on the birth of their baby, Vincent!)

Week 25 is upon us, and it's time for the Mommy Roundtable! Big thanks go out to Kimberly (40 weeks pregnant), Jen (36 weeks), and Sara (15 weeks on her second baby) who provided great feedback to the questions Kerry and Dan had.

Kerry and Dan unexpectedly found themselves at the doctor's office during Week 24. It's the sort of thing that will happen to all first-time parents, but in the end, everything is just fine.

Also on this week's agenda: responding to some of the feedback/advice from listeners, Kerry deals with back aches, checking out hand-me-downs from family members, and picking up new books to read to the baby.

An added bonus this week: the doctor's visit yielded a couple new ultrasound pics, as well as the first glimpse of the baby boy's "equipment," a topic discussed at the end of this week's show.

Our baby is just about a foot long and weighs over a pound, and the kicking inside Kerry's expanding tummy during Week 23 has just picked up. Kerry talks about some new things she read about in a new article, including the calming effects of hearing mommy and daddy's voices on the baby in the womb.

Meanwhile, furniture shopping continues and budgeting for the baby has been an ongoing issue. However, the good news from Dan is that everything looks pretty good from the financial standpoint for the new parents.

Kerry and Dan have returned home in Week 22 after travelling all over Florida. How did they manage all the sightseeing and planning?

Also, Kerry reveals the results of today's doctor's visit, some upcoming tests she'll be taking, and Dan talks about how he'll make one more return to acting before the baby is born.

Week 21 brings the parents-to-be to the great state of Florida!
Thanks to some Southern hospitality, Kerry, Dan, and Dan's mom Bonnie are staying with Dan's brother Scott and his wife Sonya. This gives Kerry the chance to ask two moms about their experiences being pregnant, new moms, and what she might expect when she has her first baby.

Week 20 marks the halfway point of the pregnancy. Looking back, Kerry and Dan talk about the advice they got, the stories told, and the support they have received over the first twenty weeks.

And now that they're in the home stretch, what will Kerry and Dan do now? Go to Disney World! Kerry discusses a couple of websites she found with valuable advice for expecting moms who don't want to get trampled by kids or jostled on rough rides (see below).

Now that the big news has been revealed - it's a boy! - how do Kerry and Dan feel about it? And as news spread during Week 19, how did friends and family react? On the sleep front, Kerry talks about her troubles constantly sleeping on one side. Meanwhile, Dan recounts how a second Baby Registry became necessary.

For many members of our family, Week 15 brought the first chance for them to see Dan and Kerry in over 20 years. It was also their introduction to the baby on the way in Kerry's tummy. The family reunion was wonderful, and perhaps there's a few members of the family tuning into the show for the first time this week!

In other news, Kerry's sense of smell has gone into overdrive around stinky bathrooms, and the book collection - for the parents and the baby - has begun to grow.
