My arm swelled so off to the doctor I went. The clinic gave me cream and an antihistamine.

Next day the swelling got progressively worse so off to my regular doctor I went...infected arm needed an antibiotic.**

The interesting thing is what the Doctor told me...

"Next time you get stung put a penny on the bite for 15 minutes."

That night my niece got stung by two bees. When she came over to swim I looked at the bite and it had already started to swell. So off I went to get my money and taped a penny to her arm for 15 minutes. Next morning, there was no sign of a bite. We were very surprised but figured perhaps she just wasn't allergic to the sting.

Then guess what? I got stung again by a hornet twice on my left hand. I was distressed thinking I would have to go to the doctor for yet more antibiotics.

I promptly went into the house, got my money out and taped two pennies to my bites, then sat and sulked for 15 minutes. The penny took the string out of the bite immediately. I still wasn't sure what was going to happen.

In the meantime the hornets were attacking my niece and she got stung on the thumb. Out came another penny. The next morning I could only see a micro spot where I had been stung...no redness, no swelling. I went to see my niece and hers was the same. I couldn't even see where she got stung!

The Doctor said that somehow the copper in the penny counteracts the bite. I would never have believed it. But it DEFINITELY WORKED !

So remember this little bit of wisdom, keep a stock of pennies on hand at school and at home and pass this on.

A Simple and Easy Task for our Safety. It should be triggered ON almost when you press in everywhere inside your house and will keep honking until your battery runs down or until you reset it.

If your car alarm is activated when someone is trying to break in your house, odds are the burglar or rapist won't stick around.....after a few seconds all the neighbours will be looking out their windows to see who is out there and sure enough the criminal won't want that.

Try yours to make sure it works before you rely on it. Just know that you must press the alarm button again to turn it off. And remember to carry your keys while walking to your car at the carpark in the evening or while you are alone. The alarm can work the same way there..... So put those car keys and remote controller on the night table now!!!

Or if you're at work, forward this message to your home so that you will remember to do this tonight when you get home. Let the rest of the family know about this too.

And then, forward this to everyone you know. This is something that should really be shared with everyone. Maybe it could save a life or from a sex abuse.

Check the Expiry Date on your Cooking Gas Cylinder

How do you determine whether the cooking gas cylinder is safe to use, make sure to use one that is yet to expire ... and save our home from disaster.Ramai kat luar sana yang tak tahu. Selinder gas yang dah expired tidak selamat diguna dan boleh menyebabkan accident. So hati-hati bila menerima selinder gas dari penjual gas.

Di sini caranya bagaimana memeriksa selinder gas LPG : Di salah satu sisi selinder gas expiry date akan dikodkan secara alpha-numerical seperti berikut;A , B , C atau D diikuti dua digit, contohnya D06.

Huruf bermaksud suku ke berapa dalam satu tahun -A utk March ( Suku pertama ),B utk June (Suku kedua ),C utk Sept ( Suku ketiga ), &D utk December ( Suku keempat ). 2 digit itu pula menunjukkan sehingga tahun berapa selinder itu selamat digunakan
Jadi D06 bermaksud selamat digunakan sehingga December 2006. Once your baby can sit up, it's only a matter of a time, strength, and coordination before he lunges forward onto his hands and knees. A few babies start crawling (or getting around via some other form of early locomotion, like scooting) by 6 months, although most take off between 7 and 9 months.

How your baby's growing

As your baby starts becoming more active, he'll appreciate wearing comfy clothes. Opt for soft fabrics that won't chafe him as he's moving around. Loose, stretchy, and breathable clothing is also smart as it provides your energetic little one plenty of wiggle room.Avoid clothes with rough or scratchy seams; long ties, buttons, or bows (could be a choking hazard); and anything else that gets in the way of your baby's sleeping, crawling, playing, or other regular activities.• Learn more fascinating facts about your 6-month-old's development.

Your life: Eating well

Taking care of a baby is, simply put, tiring. Heavy food can make you sleepy afterward, so try to keep meals and snacks light and nutritious.

Don't skip breakfast.
Tempting though it can be when you're rushed, your body needs to refuel after a night's sleep (or especially a night of nonsleep!). Proteins such as eggs or slow-burning carbs like oatmeal will give you energy to last all morning.

Climb the food pyramid.
Aim for those daily 2 1/2 cups of vegetables and 1 1/2 to 2 cups of fruits recommended for women of childbearing age. Keep crudités (cut up raw veggies) on hand in your refrigerator. Add diced vegetables to quesadillas, roll-ups, and casseroles. Fruits can be dried, frozen, or canned — all are healthy for you. Make smoothies from fresh or frozen fruit, fruit juice, and yogurt.

Look beyond junk food for pick-me-ups.
After giving you a quick burst of energy, chips and candy can leave you feeling more sluggish than before. Find more nutritious high-energy alternatives such as baked potato chips, light popcorn, almonds or peanuts, and granola bars. Buy a premade trail mix or concoct your own with chopped or dried fruit, raisins, sunflower or pumpkin seeds, nuts, and coconut flakes or chocolate chips.

Count carbs in.
Carbohydrates are a great source of energy, so think twice about cutting them out entirely in an effort to lose weight. Consider pasta in moderate servings without heavy sauces, for example, or crackers with cheese.

Drink healthy.
Remember to keep hydrated with lots of water. Also try 100 percent fruit juices and energy
drinks, but be aware of their sugar content and remember that caffeinated drinks can cause you to be dehydrated.

3 questions about: Asthma

What is asthma?
Asthma, the most common, serious chronic disease among children, is an inflammation of the lungs' lining and airways that causes difficulty breathing. Allergens, irritants (including cigarette smoke), and viral respiratory infections can cause an asthmatic attack, which can be fatal if not treated appropriately in time. Although it's a serious health situation, with careful management most children with asthma are able to live normal lives.

What are some signs that my baby may have asthma?
Your baby may have asthma if he coughs often, has allergies, eczema, or a family history of these symptoms. Possible signs of an attack include rapid breathing, coughing, wheezing, whistling, sucking in of the skin around the ribs, flaring of the nostrils with each breath, and skin turning blue.If you think your baby is having an asthma attack or any trouble breathing, immediately call 911 or take him to the emergency room.

What should I do if my baby has asthma?
If the diagnosis is asthma, your baby's doctor will discuss the many ways this problem can be managed. Together you can figure out which situations are likely to trigger asthmatic attacks, such as respiratory ailments or something environmental, such as dust. Treatment usually includes a controller medication for prevention and a quick reliever drug, administered via inhaler or a nebulizer machine, for stopping attacks. You'll also need to educate your baby's caregivers about his asthma and its treatment.

Be A Star Celebrity

StarCeleb is a show hosted by Daniel Tan and May Wan. On that father’s day, is sunday. We brought our baby went to youth park in the morning. After that, went for lunch. When the time we back, the time was already 2:30 pm. His brother said that he miss the Malaysia durian, so we bought it and eat at home.

After eating, they all went back to their house, my hubby bring out all the cake ingredients, and preheat the oven. I was helping him besides to measure the ingredients-flour, milk, butter and wash the plate.

He was so enjoy to mix the cake ingredients by using the electric mixer and prepare the cake crumble. Look at him, I feel happy also as next time he might bake the cake for me, Just wonder got this opportunity or not ??

He poured the cake into the bake pan and put it into the oven. It baked for an hour, the cake was successfully made, almost like the one show in the recipe book. Quite satisfied also.hehe..:)

Then we brought it to the father’s day celebration party, let all the father’s cut the cake together. Luckily the cake able to finish all, his grandmother took 3 pieces of cake somemore, not bad huh…just that the cake got a bit sweet…so I think next time perhaps he can reduce the sugar, no need to follow exactly per the recipe. That’s his first cake – Pumpkin Almond Cake.

5-month-old: Week 4

Your baby's development is now working in your favor when she's fussy: She's increasingly distractible. Intensely interested in the world around her, her rapidly evolving brain zeroes in on things that are new and different. So when your baby is a little cranky, use her growing interest in novelty to your advantage by making a funny noise, singing a song, gently banging a pot — any change from the norm may snap her out of her grumpy mood.
How your baby's growing

Your baby now sees and hears the world almost as well as you do. Her communication skills are expanding rapidly, too, as evidenced by her squeals, bubbling sounds, and operatic octave changes. Her sounds can demonstrate her attitude or response to objects — such as happiness, eagerness, or even satisfaction — with a problem well solved.

At this age, about half of babies babble, repeating one syllable — such as "ba," "ma," "ga," or other consonant-vowel combinations — over and over. A few will even add another syllable or two, making their sounds more complex.

You can encourage your baby by babbling right back at her and by making a game of it ("The sheep says, 'baaa,'" or "The goat says, 'maaa'"). Or, when you hear a syllable you can't identify, just respond enthusiastically with, "Yes, that is a car! See how shiny the red paint is?" Your baby will appreciate your encouraging her by keeping the conversation going.

• Learn more fascinating facts about your 5-month-old's development.

Your life: Coping with not enough sleep

When sleep deprivation is a way of life, it can be hard to function by day. Co-workers who aren't baby wrangling may have little idea of what you're up against. You need a three-pronged approach:
1. More sleep for your baby. At this age, most babies are able to sleep through the night. If yours can't, look into sleep-training methods. Browse our collection of baby sleep articles for ideas.
2. More sleep for you. Try a few of these tricks:
• Take a short nap during your break time at work, if you can.
• Simplify and/or delegate some daily chores so you can get a break.
• Go to bed early and let your partner put the baby down for the evening.
• Establish a consistent sleep-wake cycle. Try to wake up and get to sleep at the same times every day.
3. Good-quality sleep when you do rest. Some ideas for getting the most out of your zzz's:
• Talk to your doctor about herbal remedies and over-the-counter sleep aids if you have trouble getting to sleep. Sometimes getting help in order to induce a few nights' rest is all you need to reset your body clock.
• Make your bedroom sleep-friendly. Keep work and chores off the bed (and, ideally, out of the room). Make sure your mattress is comfortable — if you've had it for eight to ten years, it may be time for a newer, firmer one. Adjust the light, temperature, and noise in your bedroom to your liking. In general, the darker, cooler, and quieter it is, the better. Keep the TV out of the bedroom and turn the radio off.
• Relax before bedtime so you can nod off faster and sleep more soundly. Ways to unwind include drinking warm milk, practicing yoga, stretching, progressive muscle relaxation, deep breathing, and getting a massage.
• Take care of yourself in other ways. Eat nutritious meals and light snacks, avoid caffeine (at least after noon), and exercise regularly. Try to get the most difficult or tiring work you have to do done early in the day, and wind down as the day goes on.

3 questions about: Immunizations

What vaccines should I expect at the 6-month checkup?
The doctor will probably give your baby the HepB, DTaP, and Hib vaccines. The HepB vaccine protects against the hepatitis B virus; the DTaP vaccine against diphtheria, tetanus and pertussis (whooping cough); and the Hib vaccine against Haemophilus influenzae type b bacteria (which can cause bacterial meningitis, pneumonia, or epiglottitis).

How can I make getting shots less traumatic for my baby?
Ask if you can hold your baby in your lap, rather than having him lie on the examining table. Stay calm and distract him by speaking to him in an engaging, soothing voice. Your baby will pick up on your body language. Offer your baby a bottle, breast, or pacifier afterward to soothe crying via sucking. There's some evidence that breastfeeding a baby during an immunization, if feasible, results in less crying and distress. Generally, though, shots are more traumatic for the mother than the baby, who tends to get over the pinch quickly.

My baby is big and healthy now — does he really need vaccines?
In a word, absolutely. The shots your baby has received so far don't offer complete protection. Many vaccines are given in a series over time in order to provide full immunity. Immunizations protect against many diseases that once killed or maimed thousands of children. These serious diseases, including pertussis (whooping cough) and diphtheria, are still common in some places. The risks of not being immunized far outweigh the relatively slight risks, which can include irritability, fever, redness at the site, and crying. More serious reactions, such as seizures and allergic reactions, are very rare. Watch your baby carefully after she's been immunized and report anything more unusual than minor reactions to the doctor.

Niece's birthday Gift

Next week, is my niece one year old. Every night, my mother would ask me not to go home too late as there won't be any transportation after a certain time. One night, before going home, I ta pao a kueh teow soup for supper. I was late and I waited for the taxi/bus but there was none. I was getting worried as the night was getting darker and darker. So I tried to flag down private vehicles to take me home. There was no one stopping for me, till one motorcyclist took compensation on me and stopped to give me a lift. He was a man with a kind face. I accepted his offer and got onto his motorbike. On the way home, we would pass by a temple. At night, the temple would look eerily spooky with the dim lights from the candles. At first, the motorcyclist was warm and friendly. When the temple was approaching, the motorcyclist eyes grown bigger and bigger. His kind face turned to a face of anger. He was muttering something loud but was not audible to me. I was so scared that I closed my eyes in order not to see his angry face. Then, the motorcyclist stopped in front of the temple and then yelled at me. "Your kueh teow soup is so hot!! It is burning my thigh! Can you please move it away???"

Ghost Story #2

When I was young, I have two friends who were very close to each other. They played with each other everyday. It was like, if you see A, you would see B next to him. They were always together. A loved fried eggs. Whenever he went out for lunch or dinner, without fail, he would ask for fried egg on top of his noodles, fried rice, etc. One day, A involved in an accident and died. B was devastated. B went to the cemetery to pray everyday. He would go to the nearest restaurant and ta pao a box of fried rice with an egg on top to be offered to A when he went to pray to him. The next day, he opened the box and there was no egg inside! B was petrified. He thought, must be A who came and took the fried egg away. The same thing happened the next day and the day after that. B was confused. So, one day, he asked the chef to make the same fried rice with a fried egg again. Then, he went to the cemetery to offer it to A. Curious, he opened the box to check for the egg. He was angry to find that, there was no fried egg in the box after all. Feeling that he had been cheated, he went back to the restaurant and demanded to see the Chef. "Where is the fried egg?? I told you there must be a fried egg inside!! You have cheated me for a few days now! Gimme back my money!!" Then, the Chef got really angry and opened the box - the fried egg was inside the box. The Chef said, "Stupid! You open the box upside down. No wonder you cannot see the egg!!"

Ghost Story #3

When I was young, I went to town to work with a group of friends during our summer holidays of two months. Being young and away from home for the first time, we drank and smoke like nobody's business. One night, we were pissed drunk and flagged the last bus down to go home.Being tired, we slept in the bus. It had been awhile that I fell asleep. I was awake by the chilly wind. I was shocked to find that there was no one in the bus, and I was the last passenger. I looked in front to check out for the driver. But the driver was no where in sight. Yet, the bus was moving. I panicked shitless. I rubbed my eyes to make sure that I was not dreaming. The night was dark and cold. I hysterically jumped out from the bus and tried to run as hard as I could to get away. Then I heard someone yelled at me from behind the bus."Hey! Don't run away! Come over here and help to push the bus!" yelled the bus driver. I saw my other friends helping to push the bus, which broke down while I was asleep.

Brother In law

We are cracking our head, thinking of what to prepare for welcome BIL who will back on this coming Thursday from china- Shenzhen . You may see him rake objects toward himself and try to pick them up. Most 5-month-olds grasp an object for just a short while and then drop it. Yours will spend a long time doing this over and over if you play along by picking up objects and handing them back. Your indulging him in this game is also teaching a basic lesson in cause-and-effect — one he'll learn well, to uproarious giggles, before long.

How your baby's growingYour baby's getting better at spotting very small objects and tracking moving things. At this point, he may be able to recognize an object after seeing only part of it — like his favorite toy peeking out from under the couch. This will be the basis of little hide-and-seek games you'll be playing in the coming months.

He can also follow an object out of his view. Your baby will reach for a block (or another object) on a table if you hold him close to it, and once he's got one, he may just go after a second.

• Learn more fascinating facts about your 5-month-old's development.

Your life: Using a babysitter
Starting to use a babysitter is a big decision. Perhaps the hardest part is finding and choosing someone you like and trust, especially if family members or close friends are unavailable. Asking friends, neighbors, and others who are young parents for references is a great way to locate candidates. Some areas have babysitting agencies through which you can hire a prescreened candidate. Or try the student employment office at a local school or college.

Another option is to swap babysitting time with another parent or couple. Babysitting co-ops are larger, more formalized swapping groups in which a group of friends take turns sitting for one another's kids.

There are a number of important factors to consider when choosing a babysitter, including age, experience, and knowledge of infant CPR and first aid. Asking for references is a good start, as is a thorough interview to help you gauge the sitter's character, personality, and qualifications. Watch the babysitter interact with your baby, too. A preteen or teen who may be too young to stay alone with your baby could be hired as a "mother's helper" — someone to help watch the baby while you work or do jobs around the house.

Once you choose a babysitter, it's wise to ask her to come a little early so you can spend time together. Let her hold your baby while you prepare her by going over your baby's routines. Give her important information, too: contact numbers for getting in touch with you and the doctor, as well as the emergency room in the rare case it might be needed, an escape route from your home, the location of first-aid and emergency supplies, your baby's medical information, and healthcare authorization in case you're unavailable. In terms of compensation, it's a good idea to ask other local parents what the going rate is.

3 questions about: Growth charts

Why do doctors monitor babies' growth?
Your baby's doctor looks for an overall growth pattern by measuring your baby's weight, length (or height), and head circumference and comparing it with both national averages and previous measurements. Sudden changes from this pattern or extreme measurements may indicate a problem with feeding or absorbing nutrients, an illness, or a developmental problem.

What do "percentiles" mean?
Your baby's doctor will tell you that your baby ranks at a specific percentile on a growth chart. It's a way of comparing your baby with the full spectrum of babies. So if your baby is in the 25th percentile for weight, for example, this means that 25 percent of babies the same age and gender in the United States weigh less and 75 percent weigh more.

What if my baby seems ahead or behind?
Don't worry too much if your baby isn't close to average size. Your baby grows at an individual pace. Growth spurts may have him speeding up the chart one month or one year and then leveling back the next. Some babies are naturally larger or smaller because of their genetics. Another reason not to fixate on a number on a growth chart is that your baby's well-being involves a variety of factors, including development, temperament, and activity level, not just growth. If you have concerns, talk to your baby's doctor and she'll be able to tell you whether there's anything to worry about.

Massage

It’s believed that by massaging the relevant part/s of the palm, foot and body will enhance your health --- reflexiology.
