DICE has announced a new Expansion pack for Battlefield Bad Company 2 that takes place in Vietnam. The ground breaking announcement was made at E3 and Vietnam is expected to ship for PC, Xbox, and PS3 this Winter. The Expansion will have 4 maps, and all new weapons, vehicles, and specializations. On stage at the EA E3 press conference we announced a new expansion of Battlefield: Bad Company 2 with a new take on a Battlefield franchise favourite, Vietnam. In Battlefield Bad Company 2 Vietnam you get to enter the jungle warfare environment as either the U.S. Marines or North Vietnamese Army (NVA). The expansion pack contains 4 brand new maps built in Frostbite including the popular Conquest and Rush game modes as well as Vietnam specific weapons, vehicles, persistence, unlocks as well as new awards, achievements and trophies.

Bad Company 2 PC Patch R8 Preview

Some new information has surfaced regarding the delayed Battlefield Bad Company 2 R8 PC Patch. Yesterday, some in-game screen-shots of the new “Chat System” were leaked by a Russian Blog. The new Chat System will allow users to chat while their dead, as well as view all messages that have been displayed each round. Bad Company 2’s Current Version is Build 529483, however the Russian Site has a beta release of the 540001 Build, aka R8 PC Patch, and R12 Server Update

UPDATE: SPECACT Camo’s are being released with the new patch. They reportedly will be available for purchase at the EA Store. We are not really sure if the Dr. Pepper or Taco Bell Codes can be redeemed for the PC Version SPECACT Upgrades. It was rumored to be a Xbox 360 Promotion only.

The new Chat Mode looks to have 3 different modes according to the Russian Blog.

The Console Button toggles between 2 chat log modes.

Default: The chat appears at the top left with no background, 4 lines long. It will act like the current chat system.
Hit the Console Key: Shows a permanent 4 line chat overlay while playing in-game.

Double Tap Console Key: Shows a large 3/4 screen with a option to scroll and see all messages sent during a particular round. It is semi-transparent so you can see through it somewhat.

Helicopter Fans have been excited about this new patch because it brings the ability to deploy flares/countermeasures to avoid a missile lock via tracer dart. A few images of what looks like a UH-64 Deploying flares were also leaked on the Russian Site.

And Finally we leave you with a couple screen’s from the game’s main menu. It seems DICE is secretly working on a Conquest mode for Nelson Bay. DICE developer Bazajaytee was asked about this on Twitter by the Russian Website owner, and he did not deny it’s existence. Bad Company 2 Onslaught Mode Presentation and Video

Hexus Gaming spoke with DICE’s own, Bjorn Johnsson about the new and upcoming DLC game mode titled “Onslaught”. Onslaught is a paid DLC item that DICE has created that basically adds online co-op. A squad of 4 players can party up, and battle enemy AI through various levels. Each level has a timer on it, so gamers can compete for who has the fastest time. Bjorn also lets us know that there will be a Global leader-board that will keep up with the fastest scores of each squad. So far DICE has created 4 levels, (based off of existing multiplayer maps) in which your squad can wage war on.

Below you will find a excerpt form the demonstration, as well as the video interview as seen on Hexus Gaming.

Battlefield: Bad Company 2 Onslaught mode can be played with up to four players across four multiplayer maps – Valparaiso, Atacama Desert, Isla Inocentes, and Nelson Bay – redesigned with new lighting, time of day, added vehicles and other effects.

Each map has a dedicated gameplay focus, requiring different levels of teamwork in order to complete the objectives against an onslaught of enemy AI. Vehicle warfare comes to the forefront in Atacama Desert while Nelson Bay focuses squarely on infantry assault. Players can compete in squads and check individual progress via the dedicated Onslaught leaderboards.

The Dr. Pepper promotion codes will not work for this promotion as it was only intended for Xbox 360 Users. Gamers on the Playstation Network will have to purchase each kit for $1.99 USD

SPECACT Camo’s now Avaliable on Xbox 360

The Battlefield Blog has posted a new article letting Xbox 360 gamers know that the new SPECACT Camo’s can now be downloaded. This will also allow 360 Users to earn the SPECACT achievements that a lot of gamers have been yearning to get. An Xbox 360 title update has just gone live for Battlefield: Bad Company 2 which will allow all players who bought Dr Pepper and used the codes to unlock SPECACT kits to obtain achievements. Any progress you have made to the achievements already will be taken into consideration so if you meet the requirements your achievements should pop when you next go online.

New Coop Game Mode “Onslaught” Coming to 360 and PS3

The Battlefield Blog has announced that Xbox 360 and PS3 players will be getting a new co-op game mode called Onslaught. The new mode will be squads of 4 vs the computer AI. This will be a paid DLC item according to Associate Producer, Barrie Tingle. Battlefield Developers noted that a PC version is possible, but they are afraid the game mode might unintentionally hurt 32 slot servers. Since this new game mode would only allow for 4 players, DICE fears they will lose a lot of 32 slot servers to this game mode.

The question of “What about PC?” is coming up in the comments quite a lot already so this is what the situation is.

No, we haven’t signed away rights to console on this.
The problem we have on PC is that all our servers are dedicated with providers. Changing a server from Conquest 32 players to Onslaught 4 players cuts out 28 player slots from the total ammount available. This could have a dramatic affect on the PC online environment if enough servers changed to Onslaught.

We aren’t ruling out Onslaught on PC but at this time we are researching how to bring it to PC without affecting players who don’t have Onslaught or their own server to run it on.

Bad Company 2 R8 Patch and Server R12 Update Coming Next Week

Bad Company 2 Developer Barrie Tingle has posted a new thread on the EA UK Forums detailing the upcoming R8 BC2 PC Patch, and R12 Server Backend Update Change Logs. The Patch and Update reduces overall latency and brings new control options such as “Toggle Crouch”, “Advanced Helicopter Controls”, and “Text Chat while dead”. It also brings some nice tweaks for Server Owners such as Increased Server Description, Reserved Slots, Log Files, Profanity Filter Options, and tons more. This is by far one of the most exciting updates we’ve seen so far. Below you will find the full change log for both updates.

The next release of the game client is currently in QA.

We will perform another synchronized client/server update. It is expected to take place early next week.

The client update will be roughly 500MB in size.

Server – Some potential sources for lag/rubberbanding have been eliminated

DICE Releases New Graphics Fan Kit Download Package
